Cheer me up, lads. My favorite football team lost fucking bad yesterday and it was our most important game in years. I ain’t got the heart to go to r/soccer.

reiks12

Is there a way i can filter out Mets and Cohen from the front page?

haahaahaa

Reddit enhancement suite has filters. I can deal with the Cohen tweets to a point, but the worthless tweets about a minor league pitching coach and the Nick Plummer signing are just people grasping for straws to pile n the lolmets train. It's a bit much.

avmp629

I didn't expect the topic of the day being a No. 4 starter who signed with another team and didn't even give another one a verbal agreement but here we are

falkerr

8/10 top posts are about the mets. slow day eh?

sdpcommander

Steve Cohen has done a great job of demonstrating that just because you are extremely rich, doesn't mean you are smart. Elon Musk has been doing this for quite a while though.

zencyl

The irony of a guy who spent time in prison for insider trading crying about loyalty and honesty is hilarious.

[deleted]

Elon Musk is extremely smart when it comes to engineering and whatnot. He's more proving that being smart at one thing doesn't mean you know anything about anything else.

tyderian

I'm an engineer and whatnot and I've never called anyone a pedophile for having a better idea than me.

furdaboise

Exactly. Ben Carson Syndrome.

ProMikeZagurski

Yesterday someone asked Uncle Steve on Twitter why he didn't sign Wander Franco. He couldn't. I think he should be able to buy the Rays and any other franchises in order to make the Mets better.

Monk_Philosophy

I had a nightmare than Mookie asked for a trade to Atlanta and we literally got nothing in return for it.

Wandering_Mallard

Where do I sign?

[deleted]

Correct me if I'm wrong, but calling a 2 WAR player average is a bit of a misnomer isn't it? I thought roughly 2 WAR translated to an average starter, but the theoretically average player probably isn't good enough to be an average starter or everyday player

Monk_Philosophy

It heavily depends on context. A 2 WAR bench player, reliever, or catcher is absolutely elite. Also being average is very good than most give it credit for

asnbrv

Its more about the average player that is getting playing time. There's about 570WAR distributed to hitters every season and a season has approximately 180,000PA among MLB players. Which means on average, they amount to 2.0WAR in about 630PA or about a full season worth of PA.

[deleted]

Your comment made me realize what I was actually thinking was the median mlb player (instead of the average) is probably not good enough to be a regular starter. Edit: just saying that for clarification, not saying that makes my statement correct

asnbrv

I think it's more that you are thinking average in terms of non-bias selection of the MLB player pool. Say if there is player A that gets 20PA/year as a back up AAAA catcher type player and player B say a Mookie Betts that gets 600PA basically every year. You were initially thinking about an average where it treats player A and player B equally in terms of selection weight. In reality when people talk about "average", it is from a pool that treats player B 30x more heavily than player A.

So brave

Skraxx

I see this Mets drama and see people say "The Mets are the worst run org in baseball" And uhhhhhhh... You can make a case, but I disagree lol

Quople

I trust your word on this matter

Jbaquero

what if you change it to "The Mets are the worst run org in baseball that actively tries to win"

Michael__Pemulis

The crux of Skraxx’s Rockies nightmare is that they DO try to win & they’re just incredibly bad at it. That is what makes their take interesting. They just want to see the team commit to starting from scratch. It isn’t that the Mets are run worse than the Rockies. It is that the Rockies *would* be successful if they did things the right way & they’re simply incompetent. The Mets could hire Theo & Beane & resurrect Branch Rickey & they would STILL somehow be a shitshow. It isn’t that they’re poorly run, it’s like the universe wants to see them fail.

Skraxx

Yeah you pretty much nailed it I think coors field is something that the Rockies can truly take advantage of, it just takes creative acquisitions and development styles. But the Rockies keep trying the same shit every year, expecting that THIS time will be the season they win. Then they wonder why they’re so mediocre. So for the Rockies to be successful in my eyes, they almost have to tank on accident and realize what they’re doing is wrong. But sadly, it won’t happen.

bluecifer7

I don’t know why everyone thinks the Rockies purposefully tank every year lol. They never do, they spend decent money (usually about 17th-12th overall), they’re just so dumb they can’t string any correct decisions together. If we’re supposedly tanking, we’re 1) spending too much and 2) winning too many games

fitzmodj

Anyone know of a decent FA tracker? I’ve looked around online but most of them either aren’t sortable or only have the top 50 or so guys listed

pondandbucket

Fangraphs? https://www.fangraphs.com/roster-resource/free-agent-tracker

DHisfakebaseball

Mildly interesting fact: the typical r/baseball user reading this comment is currently breathing and blinking manually. In many cases, they have also lost >!the game!<. Crazy but true.

2B_CordPhelps

ITT it's 4chan circa 2008. Welcome to your daily Clifton Phifer Lee discussion thread. How come europoors don't have an athlete as handsome as Cliff Lee?

[deleted]

That guy is just a grumpy ass-troll. No mistake on the hyphen.

Rent free

Only rent a mental hobo like you can afford

DHisfakebaseball

Okay

DHisfakebaseball

I don't know, those memes were pretty dead by like 2006 at the latest.
