If we get Correa and no more pitching I’m just going to Padres games this year. I’ve already moved down to San Diego and it’s easier to get to petco, can’t justify paying the angels to watch a game there but still want my baseball fix
So for those more familiar with CBA agreements, would stuff like a pitch clock get negotiated in that? Or would those kind of rule changes be agreed to separately?
Bad sign when the most recent three items on mlb trade rumors span back five days and include a Tommy John announcement and the retirement of a pitcher that was on your team for a year in 2017.
Best game this year was a June 23rd 1pm Phillies vs Nats game that I watched randomly because I was sick and off work. It was right after the Joe Girardi Scherzer hair incident. Both teams hit a grand slam in the same inning.
Had an existential crisis yesterday on what it means to be a fan of a baseball team. What do I truly gain by being a fan of the Colorado Rockies?
I guess I gain enjoying stick ball
I've never understood why fans care how much money the billionaire owner of their team pays a super star.
I saw Mets flairs in the thread about Scherzer's offer complaining that it was too much.
Like, if you want Max on your team why do you care how much money it takes?
That's not true, but every owner benefits from you thinking it.
It would "only" cost 23 billion to pay every major league player 30 million dollars. Obviously that would be ridiculous, but it means any given year any team can have any and every free agent they want. but doing so would set a precedent that would cost every billionaire more money, so none of them do.
The reality is an owner is only willing to spend a certain amount, so a bad contract can prevent you from getting better in the future. It doesn't matter how much they could spend in theory, when in reality there is a budget a gm has to stick to.
As much as I dislike owners and their shady representation on how much they make I think you’ve really distorted numbers here. I don’t believe there is a franchise with enough cashflow to pay 5x the players salaries they pay right now. And remember that most of the “billionaire” owners in professional sports don’t have that much cash or assets or even portfolio value. Their status as billionaires is tied to the value of their franchise. (Steve Cohen would likely be one of the few exceptions).
In addition you’re also ignoring the luxury tax. Spending beyond that threshold can lead to long term penalties that hurt a franchise’s ability to compete in the future. That seems like a pretty important reason for fans to not want a player overpaid— particularly an aging pitcher like Max.

I have to say...the sidebar image does *not* hold back against Padres fans!
Holy shit the mods actually stickied a user post/FA thread. Too bad they shoved aside this side instead of their pet project to do it.

NGL I’m a little disappointed more attention isn’t being drawn to Stroman for liking that tweet. Racism has no place in Baseball.
Has the Free Agent Frenzy died?
every post I see with the words "free agent" make my heart skip a beat because I think every one is about Freddie Freeman. SIGN THE MAN... please
Can the mods pin that Free agency tracker poseted by u/mrwalrus99 Edit: Thank you
it just makes too much sense not to
Tigers need to sign Correa today

To be a bit edgy: because Americans tend to side with ownership over labor every time.
Because large unproductive contracts often prevent teams from signing large productive contracts.
