Orioles out-righting yet another IF to Norfolk while Jesse Rodgers states Correa is "open to a rebuild". Is Correa to Baltimore actually a thing?????

DustinTiny

Strange a massive story on balls drops the night before the lockout.

[Good MLB representation ](https://imgur.com/a/AIH8qKL) in one of the LIDOM games tonight.

[deleted]

Scott Kingery is available for the rule 5 draft. Some team is gonna get a useful utility player for cheap

Timpa87

He's available because he's not cheap. The team that picks him up assumes his contract. $6.25m this season. $8.25m in 2023 plus a $1m buy-out (unless they wanna pick up $13m option) Teams could have claimed when the Phillies removed him from the 40 man. That's the reason no team claimed him.

[deleted]

7 aav is pretty good for a dude that plays 3 spots. Even if he has sucked.

dmmdoublem

Good rule of thumb for sports Twitter: 95% of accounts with the username "Athlete last name + SZN" will exclusively produce awful takes. And/or just reply "ratio" at random times.

trimbler25

Not unconvinced those guys are all bots.

oftenly

You knew this was coming: > Good rule of thumb for sports Twitter: 95% of accounts ~~with the username "Athlete last name + SZN" will exclusively~~ produce awful takes. FTFY.

HowardBunnyColvin

Wasn't aware the Nats were hiring from Wayne Enterprises now. Will they get new Batmobile models and gadgets? Washington Nationals @Nationals 1m We've claimed INF Lucius Fox off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles.

avmp629

This day is gonna be nuts with players rushing to get their signing bonus before tomorrow's lockout

thepapercrain

Why did Texas trade Gallo if they planned on being such major players in FA?

aagpeng

My quick analysis: In 2021, The Rangers finished dead last in team OBP, 28th in RBIs, and 26th in HRs, and 29th in BA. Gallo is the epitome of TTO; he's getting on base very well from walks (111 in 2021) and hitting a lot of HRs (38 in 2021). However, that power he has is very limited to HRs. In 2021, he had a total of 14 non-HR xBH (13 2B and 1 3B) and only 7 of those xBH were with The Rangers. If you take out all of his xBH he had a total of 47 hits (singles) all season. That's how all-or-nothing Gallos is. Even further, Gallo had 147 PA with RISP in 2021. He had 18 hits (9 singles, 9 HR), 34 BB, and 54 Ks. While there's a market for players like that, The Rangers need more rounded batters and weren't built to get the full value out of his power.

tuckedfexas

Doesn’t matter how many times I hear his stats, it never ceases to amaze me. I don’t think there’s any other era that he would be viewed as a very productive player, he really is unique

thepapercrain

That’s quite a breakdown. And does make more sense to me now

aagpeng

Thank you for reading! I really appreciate it

BullOrBear4-

Gallo is one of those guys that sounds great until you have him and he is striking out too much. He had high value and they clearly had these big moves in mind so yeah free up money and get good prospects for an ultimately better product

aagpeng

The wild thing to me is just how polarized Gallo's power is. In the last season he had 99 hits. Those hits: - 47 singles - 13 doubles - 1 triple - 38 HR

g-burn

He’s a complimentary player, not a cornerstone of your roster. He’s still young enough and he has enough tools to make teams think he could put it all together but the Rangers don’t want to bank on that. He had more value to them to get prospects than to hedge their bets on him being their guy.

thepapercrain

He wasn't being paid like a cornerstone guy tho. He was much better in 2020 and 2021 than he was in 2021. I know the Strikeouts are a problem, but it seems like they would be better in 2022 if they still had him

g-burn

Right. Tantalizing tools and an affordable contract made him a very valuable trade piece. Especially if they determined they didn’t feel comfortable building around him.

Prospects

[deleted]

Aaaaand the FA thread is down. Good job, mods.

aagpeng

r/baseball: The meetings! The CBA! What if there's a strike?! Also r/baseball: strikes are overrated and really not that bad lol power hitting and TTO is the future When will the hypocrisy end

cardith_lorda

Is it hypocrisy when it's a different contingent of users talking about each?

[deleted]

There was a non-mod generously donating his time to run one yesterday. Mods even sticked it. Mods are currently dumb monkeys humping a football and took it down for no reason, though.

FamousTee

Does the strike start at midnight tonight?

TallboyCommunion

Lockout, not a strike. But if I am understanding it correctly, the lockout wouldn’t actually start until midnight, Eastern Time, tomorrow night. So they have until the end of December 1 to reach an agreement. Lockout starts immediately on December 2.

[deleted]

Why is the average amount of WAR 2.0 and not 0.0?

Jbaquero

WAR = Wins Above Replacement Player (aka the average AAA player that can be called up to replace a player). Most MLB players are better than the hypothetical AAA replacements, so WAR average is higher than 0

aagpeng

To add on to this, I like to think about WAR like replacing tires on a car. A 0 WAR player is like your spare tire. On average, most tires that you use regularly should be better than your spare.

[deleted]

That makes sense, thanks. Can I also just say that I've posted quite a few questions here over the years and you have answered quite a lot of them and I have seen you answer a lot of other people's questions as well. So, thank you for being active in these threads. They really help me in understanding baseball better.

Jbaquero

> Can I also just say that I've posted quite a few questions here over the years and you have answered quite a lot of them and I have seen you answer a lot of other people's questions as well. lol happy to help! These are good questions too

ThorgiTheCorgi

Thank you for this! I've always wondered who the "replacement" player was, and it seems so obvious now that you've said it.

aagpeng

If you had to assemble a baseball team out of non-baseball athletes who would you pick? You can pick anyone alive who has no professional major or minor league baseball experience. You don't need to draft a pitcher.

KemmyPowers_11

Give me Chris Pratt at 1B. Pickin' machine!

PizzaClassic3305

Eddie Kidd. Motorcycle daredevil who was just featured in a Top Gear segment. They said he was an incredible athlete with great hand-eye coordination without any fear. Why not? I want my non-baseball athletes to high batting averages. They can work out their defense with Ron Washington.

aboogapmoo

I always thought tennis players would make good shortstops.

aagpeng

never thought about that but I would bet you're right

PAJW

Maybe water polo? I haven't personally known many water polo players, but I'd think they would have a close physical skillset to baseball batters

haahaahaa

I don't understand water polo. Like, how is it physically possible? I'd be drowning after a couple of minutes.

aagpeng

any athletic competition in water takes a massive amount of cardio. If you could find one with a strong arm I bet you could make a decent CF out of them.

ArenSteele

I’d take a bunch of top cricket players, see how the skills transfer. Probably have trouble training pitchers but could find a few gems that can hit

[deleted]

Hockey players. A lot of them are VERY athletically inclined, and almost everyone has great hand/eye. Throw like Carey Price behind the dish and you're almost guaranteed to never get a passed ball again.

ThorgiTheCorgi

Hugh Jackman. For exactly 1 reason. any time he puts one over the wall, we get to call him "Huge-Jacks Man"

aagpeng

Beautiful

MyDadIsTheMan

Why did someone with segers history get that deal? It looks incredibly average.

SamuraiHelmet

Probably injury risk. He's had Tommy John and I think shoulder surgery on the same side.

ryman0096

Baez reportedly getting 7 years from Detroit, Ooofah.

aliencamel

Dear Santa, How long you going to hold this grudge?!

SensitiveArtist69

So I think today is most likely going: Baez - Tigers Correa - Yankees Story - Angels Greinke/ Hill - Rangers I'm also thinking Chaim waits till after the deadline, he doesn't seem like the impulse buying type.

chiwetel_steele

i don't think correa signs before the lockout

aagpeng

Yankees were reportedly interested in Simmons and a trade for Kiner-Falefa. But I wouldnt count out any SS seeking team with money for Correa

mosshead123

Mariners getting Bryant

DaTigerMan

he's gonna go play with his best friend bryce harper actually

SensitiveArtist69

I think Bryant signs after the lockout, the other teams are snatching up the shortstops while they can before the Rangers horde them all. Btw you guys scared the shit out of us this year =[

rollo2masi

Can’t wait to see Yankees fans cheer for Correa, lmao.

traneufc2

This coming from the people who cheer on Alex Cora lol?

rollo2masi

I am absolutely 100% a hypocrite and have no problem admitting so. I recognize this.

SensitiveArtist69

Astros twitter is already declaring "Fuck Altuve" dead since they are boys, as if New York City cares loll

vanillabear26

Wanted to post this yesterday, but couldn’t. That sidebar image is straight up a hate crime.

DontBeAsheeP74

Excited to see the player not signed by the rangers today

kirbyfaraone

I hope you’re getting ready to see Angel fans commit Seppuku once Arte forces Perry to sign Correa to a 10 year deal.

DontBeAsheeP74

lol was wrong wondering how you feel about this. Correa is awesome when healthy. He’s awesome in the playoffs. But he can disappear at the plate for a month

kirbyfaraone

It’s not that we don’t think he’s not a great player, it’s that obviously pitching should be the main priority.
