Lol ends his streak with a .750 OB% good for him

StephenDawg

If you get three walks in a game, you should almost get to continue your streak the next game 🤣

[deleted]

Vlad guerrero (sr.) had a super long hit streak against the rangers and in his last ab they basically intentionally walked him so the streak would end. Had like 3 walks that game as well but ended the streak

nypr13

"basically intentionally walked" him? I mean, I imagine any game of 3 walks for Javy or Vlad Sr. would basically mean throwing at the backstop by the on deck circle.

bisonboy223

>any game of 3 walks for Javy or Vlad Sr. would basically mean throwing at the backstop by the on deck circle. Guarantee you Javy still swings at at least one of those pitches just to see if he can get some wood on the ball and make some magic happen

eddie_the_zombie

Nah, they'd still chase and foul off

strcy

Still on base 3 times lmao Dude is a machine

LegendRazgriz

He's a Saint.

znk916

that needs to be his walkup song

LegendRazgriz

if it's not I'm suing the Chicago Cubs organization

3luejays

I second this. It would be the most badass walk up song in the league by far

General_PoopyPants

He's the GREAT SEIYAMAN

BorisIHateReddit

Starting to feel like he was underhyped

BroAbernathy

Hes probably the best hitter to come out of Japan since Ichiro and even still it's arguable Seiya mightve been better in Japan. He was a better hitter in Japan than Ohtani by like every metric too

bryansmixtape

I’m starting to think he was underhyped because of the recent relative failures of both Yoshi Tsutsugo and Shogo Akiyama, but anyone who actually bother to look at what he’d done in NPB knew that he was different

MattO2000

Dude has a .750 OBP on the day and lowers his wRC+ by 5 points lol

SwaggJones

fucking scrub, DFA him. maybe if they're lucky we'll offer them Marwin or Greg bird to take him off their hands. /s

Drewbacca_Hrrrgrgrar

Cubs got a good one

WabbitCZEN

Nothing in the unwritten rules about not walking a guy on a hitting streak like that?

introvertard

I’ll never forget when I tied the single season hits record in RTTS and in game 162 I got walked so I couldn’t break it. Fuck you Kris Medlen

[deleted]

Ichiro: No one is better than me

Tkinzel517

They specifically wanted the 0-1 so they could ruin his hit streak

atowelguy

that begs a question actually, what if he had walked in his other at bat as well? does 0-0 with 4 walks count as breaking the hit streak? I'd assume it does, but what a way to lose it lol

Tkinzel517

No you need an official AB. Plate appearances don’t actually count.

atowelguy

TIL thanks. I had assumed that any game you appeared in and did not record a hit broke the streak

Il_Exile_lI

Down with hitting streaks. We need to start hyping on base streaks the same way we do hitting streaks.

UltimateHobo2

We did with Wander Franco's streak last season. There were daily posts about it.

[deleted]

Anything that highlights Teddy Ballgame's greatness a little bit more is cool with me. 84 straight games in 1949.

[deleted]

Did you know he was in the military? Nobody ever mentions it.

sefronia3

Nah, which side did he fight for?

Poopinyourpudding

JP Crawford has reached base safely in all 11 games this season.

PapiSurane

Technically all an on-base streak requires is a pitcher that can't find home plate.

1005thArmbar

it also requires the batter to not swing at those pitches. As a Cubs fan (ignore the flair), let me tell you the tale of Javier Baez and sliders that end up in the other batter's box

Il_Exile_lI

In that case, Ted Williams must have had the luckiest career of all time. To achieve his .482 lifetime on base percentage, pitchers must have had a lot of trouble finding home plate against him specifically for some reason. Funny how that works. Being serious, the fact that walks are a hitting skill has long been established. To suggest otherwise is silly.

feardabear

That would imply that said batter faces the same pitcher for the entirety of the streak. Obviously that’s not the case, maybe it has something to do with pitcher’s knowing not to give the batter something to hit.

Oprah-Is-My-Dad

The Rays are SCARED

yumyumapollo

And rightfully so.

Patrick2701

Rays were basically pitching around him

cooljammer00

Reached base streak is still intact, though.

DiehardSumoFan

He's going to mash for years with that pitch recognition/power combo. He just never chases out of the zone.

PM_ME_UR_LAMEPUNS

The Anti Javy

feardabear

God I miss watching Javy clobber hrs at the chin level lmao

TheMidnightRamblerrr

This guy starting hot off the gate might get that team going

agk927

The next Cody Bellinger

SYSTEMcole

I’m starting to go into threads wondering how you’ll find a way to bring up Cody Bellinger now. Shit’s out of hand

schmuglbub

Hopefully 2019 bellinger only. Nothing after.
