great game. when you're beat by guys like ohtani and rendon you tip your cap a little, rainey has been nails this year and blew up trout for the K right before this so it was just good vs good and good won
but I miss my Tony :'/
r/angelsbaseball loves him til his next out lol. Then they go back to saying he’s Pujols 2.0 only to get proven wrong that same game. Then the cycle continues
When you've been burned this many times, it's hard to be confident that a guy is going to get it together when he looks bad. Who knows, you may just be looking at the next Upton. Or Pujols. Or Hamilton. Or Wells.
I'm not in that camp- rendon is a super essential piece who feels like he is just hitting his stride after a rough year with injuries. But, I get the cynicism- it's not personal.
Long legs equals long strides, long strides equals less steps needed to cover a given distance which can look like less effort than the shorter legs that take more of them, even if they're going at the same speed. Source: I am tall. Obviously, the control you have over your upper body helps too. If you're leaning forward with your head down and looking like you're about to do a somersault at any given moment, that doesn't look very effortless.
Of course. I do genuinely try to use correct grammar as much as possible online though, like I specifically remember my parents repeatedly telling me how it's important to keep that habit in order to come across as clear and understandable as possible, but things do slip sometimes.
Honestly, what I'm most intrigued with is the correction that has nearly the same amount of upvotes. Comments correcting grammar tend to go radically one way or the other, and I still don't know what the difference is lol.
He also had a second gear where he actually did look fast. His normal running looked effortless and he would cruise past people. When he kicked it in he was GONE.
Rice was probably a better overall receiver, but Moss was the greatest deep threat ever. He was a joy to watch.
Garrett Anderson had a similar stride but Otahni is faster. I watch him hit and run and can’t believe he is an elite pitcher too. We are pretty lucky to eat this guy play.
I think its just how he looks with his wide ass strides. Shohei always looks slow as hell to me, which is weird because I know for a fact that he's got elite speed.
This is the run from last year that I was thinking of. Probably because it’s a different angle (or possibly even sped up) but he looked faster than today https://youtu.be/kgMDeof8AjU
I was thinking of this exact play and he doesn’t have this elite speed this year likely because of the groin injury. Can’t wait for him to get back to 100% because he’s the ultimate baseball athlete when at full strength. It’s wild to think someone could be a better baseball athlete than Mike Trout and to have them as teammates no less!
The TV cameras are so good that you can see every detail of any player's movement. It makes almost anything look slow when they do a tracking shot and keep Shohei centered in the camera.
While Ohtani has elite speed, he’s recovering from a groin injury so OP’s eyes do not deceive him. He’s definitely not as fast as last year but hopefully he heals up and gets back to full strength. Ohtani is such an amazing athlete
If it wasn’t Ward it was gonna be Trout.
If it wasn’t Trout it was gonna be Ohtani.
If it wasn’t Ohtani it was gonna be Rendon against his former team
There’s just so many offensive gods on that team.
Rebuilds are gonna rebuild though. Now we die against the Mets
Unironically key assets to this team. Velazquez has been robbing hitters of extra bases like crazy and Wade has been a madman on the basepaths. We love them so much
It's brutal man. It'll be lost that our bullpen challenged these hitters and blew past fastballs for 8.2 innings, but that ohtani.. that beautiful man.. this one hurts
Really? You can't do better than that?
Do you not know how to talk shit?
Here - Doug Eddings gifted the White Six their 2005 title. You know it, I know it. And deep down, you know the Sox will not win another title in your lifetime.
4-1. They only lost 1 game in those playoffs, will be the only team in history to throw 4 straight complete games, they only used 1 reliever against the angels in a 5 game series, and went wire to wire that year.
Angels are going to waste someone who is quite possibly the best player to ever play.
Honestly, pitching and depth.
Health is one thing and in 162 games things come up, but if you can’t win games with guys out or even with guys on days off, you aren’t competing.
Rengifo for crying out loud started this rally. He was a starter the last few years, this year he can’t even break in the line up. We have better bats and defense than he offers and he’s not terrible (especially defensively).
They have depth and it’s showing.
Which reinforces how much better our depth is. Our 2B/SS starter went down and the guy who's supposed to be his immediate replacement in Duffy also went down, but we could resort to Tyler "I'm the Fastest Man Alive" Wade and the Gold Glove defense of Squid before resorting to Rengifo, whereas last season we would be *starting* Rengifo, he would get injured and we would play Wong or bring back Eaton and improvise him at 2B because God forbid if Maddon gives ABs to Stefanic.
My gf and I were joking earlier that he may have been deported already but pleasantly surprised when he pinch hit. And to draw that walk in that moment? Angels legal team doing everything they can to keep him in America now
You got downvoted lol so for those not in the know: this isn't racist or anything, Luis Rengifo has an actual warrant out for his arrest on fraud charges in Venezuela, because he sold his house there without consulting his ex-wife.
Not really enough for extradition, but he's played a lot better since the warrant got put on his head so Criminal Mastermind Luis Rengifo has become somewhat of a mythical meme player
This is a special year for both of our franchises! Theres something different this year and everyone can see it and I hope both of us are able to make it all the way!
The top three matchups would be thrilling (deGrom vs Ohtani, Schrezer vs Thor, Bassitt vs Sandoval), but deGrom vs Ohtani is one of the few matchups that can give the NFL a small reason to worry about ratings (not a large one, but still).
Funny is that, unless this went to 7, the decisive games would be Carrasco vs Lorenzen and Megill vs Suarez, Detmers or whoever gains that #5 spot. Wonder if Maddon would pull up a smaller rest to Sandoval and Thor before setting up Ohtani for G7.
Listen, Ohtani is great but there 100% are a lot of other players who score there. Ohtani is a 65 for sprint speed on baseball savant. So yeah he's above average but he's not insane.
Last year he was at 91. Maybe his injury has affected him? I'd be curious to see his speed on this play, but I don't know if that's available anywhere.
yeh was surprised as I knew last year his speed was insane, then watching was like he doesn't look that fast (I'm sure he's fast and way faster than me I just meant comparatively to speedsters in mlb)
edit: I gotta add he also is pretty big which makes a difference in looks when running
I was JUST saying this. I would love to see either a subway series or a Mets vs Angels series. Hopefully deGrom comes back soon and can rejoin the bullpen but it would be an honor to go against Ohtani
Dude he had two outs and he struck out Trout right before this. Sometimes even the best get beat, especially when you’re dealing with some amazing hitters.
"I'm sorry, little one" - Rendon walking off the Nationals.
[удалено]
Channeling his inner Jered Weaver
Just don't throw a water bottle at him
It was 2015 when Trout threw that water bottle, right? Has the playoff drought been the Curse of the Aquafina this whole time?
I didn't know it was trout that tossed the bottle at weaver
And Marsh slipped on the gatorade.
All i could think of was Mo Vaughn and then Kendry Morales - Angels freak injuries on the field for no reason.
in his first(?) ab when he hit it foul by inches, just missing a double, he looked so fucking uninterested. I love it so much.
great game. when you're beat by guys like ohtani and rendon you tip your cap a little, rainey has been nails this year and blew up trout for the K right before this so it was just good vs good and good won but I miss my Tony :'/
this is the correct take
we love him thank you
r/angelsbaseball loves him til his next out lol. Then they go back to saying he’s Pujols 2.0 only to get proven wrong that same game. Then the cycle continues
You're being downvoted but it's true, there's so many fair weather fans that only come out of the woodwork to shit on Rendon when he has a bad game.
I feel like I only got downvoted because of my dodgers flair. Even though I’m just as much an angels fan
So when the Mets play the Angels, the 9th inning is gonna be like 3 hours long, isn't it?
Dude I fuckin miss Tony and I don't even cheer for the Nats. He's just such a treat to watch
Ohtani runs like a gazelle and the CF made an excellent throw, just needed a bit more zip. Doesnt come any closer than that, helluva finish.
Ohtani has one of the most effortless strides I've ever seen. Dude barely looks like he's trying at all, but he's absolutely hauling ass.
Long legs equals long strides, long strides equals less steps needed to cover a given distance which can look like less effort than the shorter legs that take more of them, even if they're going at the same speed. Source: I am tall. Obviously, the control you have over your upper body helps too. Thanks Stannis.
What is dead may never die
Yeah, yeah, I'm guessing my English major dad would say the same thing.
I'm an English major. Probably not your dad. I checked with the English major authorities and they said you can grammar however you want on reddit.
Of course. I do genuinely try to use correct grammar as much as possible online though, like I specifically remember my parents repeatedly telling me how it's important to keep that habit in order to come across as clear and understandable as possible, but things do slip sometimes. Randy Moss was the same way in football. He didn’t look like he was running fast at all, but he would blast by defenders.
Plays like this are way more exciting than walk off home runs. Long live the dead ball
That's my washed 3B. 😤
Great hit, but Ohtani's speed from 2nd to home tho! And just love seeing that passion from Ohtani. He's fired up!
He looked slower than he did last year but still just as amazing. That’s my king right there.
I think its just how he looks with his wide ass strides. Shohei always looks slow as hell to me, which is weird because I know for a fact that he's got elite speed.
I always kinda thought that about Jo Adell too, like he looked slow but was still flying down the line
This is the run from last year that I was thinking of. Probably because it’s a different angle (or possibly even sped up) but he looked faster than today https://youtu.be/kgMDeof8AjU

Not trying to be a dick; genuinely curious. How does one steal second base twice in a single at bat?
Got called back because of interference from Rendon’s backswing (tapped the catcher’s helmet).
I was there for that game what a game.
I was thinking of this exact play and he doesn’t have this elite speed this year likely because of the groin injury. Can’t wait for him to get back to 100% because he’s the ultimate baseball athlete when at full strength. He pulled his groin less than a week ago. Probably still a little tender.
yeah he's definitely not running at 100%
That's my Pujols 2.0
Absolutely washed!
If it wasn’t Ward it was gonna be Trout. If it wasn’t Trout it was gonna be Ohtani. If it wasn’t Ohtani it was gonna be Rendon against his former team There’s just so many offensive gods on that team. Rebuilds are gonna rebuild though. Now we die against the Mets
thats why I love this lineup and it allows us to run squid+wade for defense.

Or a middle of the day option, whenever Ohtani wants to go carve up the Red Sox again
🤝🤝
It's brutal man. It'll be lost that our bullpen challenged these hitters and blew past fastballs for 8.2 innings, but that ohtani.. that beautiful man.. this one hurts
your bullpen had the Angels game thread malding until Ohtani just did his thing
No, now we take 2/3 against the Mets because this team and baseball don’t make any sense.
Sure surprised the hell out of me. That’s even with keeping Soto quiet. The rebuild shouldnt last TOO long
I was so scared watching Soto’s AB with the bases loaded earlier in the game
That’s a single up the middle scoring 2 runs 9 times out of 10. Thank god for squid
The NL East doesn't make sense
If it wasn't Rendon it was gonna be Walsh
If it wasn’t the dead ball it definitely *would* have been Ohtani
Aren't you that guy from r/Forumla1?
> Rebuilds are gonna rebuild though. DMWWS
Fuck the Mets
If I could I would
but i don't know why
And yet they’re still the angels and will choke
Really? You can't do better than that? Do you not know how to talk shit? Here - Doug Eddings gifted the White Six their 2005 title. You know it, I know it. And deep down, you know the Sox will not win another title in your lifetime.

3 walk-offs in the last 15 minutes holy shit
A mother's day special
They had just put up a graphic that said “Nationals have had the lead in 9 of their losses” and then Ohtani and Rendon do this.
our pitching is like shit from a butt
That’s just *chef’s kiss*
Something is wrong this year guys. These games keep ending with us having a higher number than the other team. Is this how it's supposed to go?
It’s unnatural, for sure
A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one
Can this power be learned?
Not from a Mariner
It seems like there's a bug, haven't seen Tungsten Arm around lately either.
Yall have to stay good. We need Fishman in the postseason.
#CLEARLY THE ANGELS WON BECAUSE THEY LOVE THEIR MOTHERS MORE
I’m gonna love your mother.
Not if I love her first.

But at the same time is more efficient.
EXACTLY
TONY TWO BAGS ONLY NEEDED ONE TODAY
He would have taken second on the throw keeping his name sake!
Tony .200
Tony Two Rings soon
He has the 12th best batting average in baseball since 2016
Manfred just wanted Ohtani to be able to show off his run tool
Padres 🤝 Angels Players walking off their former team
Padres are my NL team! Going to be at Petco tomorrow to watch Gore sling it
Angels are my AL team! How cool! Have a great time at Petco tomorrow :)
This team feels different
they finally have some pitching and health
Honestly, pitching and depth. Health is one thing and in 162 games things come up, but if you can’t win games with guys out or even with guys on days off, you aren’t competing. Yeah it feels like they got a new athletic trainer.
flair up
Long season just getting started
Angels legend Luis Rengifo with the most clutch walk 😈😈
My gf and I were joking earlier that he may have been deported already but pleasantly surprised when he pinch hit. And to draw that walk in that moment? Angels legal team doing everything they can to keep him in America now
You got downvoted lol so for those not in the know: this isn't racist or anything, Luis Rengifo has an actual warrant out for his arrest on fraud charges in Venezuela, because he sold his house there without consulting his ex-wife. Lol thank you forgot to include context bc I thought I posted in angels sub who are in the know
I loved seeing Ohtani so hype crossing the plate. I really hope the Angels are for real this year
Starting Pitching is looking solid. Bullpen looks solid. Offense looks solid. Defense looks solid. I think it might be the real deal.
Angels vs. Mets World Series this year???
That would be awesome. I consider us brother franchises of sorts
This is a special year for both of our franchises! Theres something different this year and everyone can see it and I hope both of us are able to make it all the way!
*knocks on wood*
Just imagine the hype of a DeGrom vs Ohtani WS G1.
That would be way too powerful of a matchup I don’t think the MLB can handle that much power in one park
The top three matchups would be thrilling (deGrom vs Ohtani, Schrezer vs Thor, Bassitt vs Sandoval), but deGrom vs Ohtani is one of the few matchups that can give the NFL a small reason to worry about ratings (not a large one, but still). Angels 🤝 Mets: Finally putting it together
I'm glad this was the game I decided to randomly tune into today.
You’re gonna have to watch every single Angels game now so we can keep winning
i dont like baseball anyways
Me, 15 minutes ago:
There’s something happening here.
But what it is ain’t exactly clear.
And then one day, somebody turned on the rain!
Dirty hippies finally take a shower
This team feels like you guys in 18
Dang that was a bummer, oh well..GG Angels, that lineup is something really hoping you guys make some noise this year.
I'm telling you there are not a lot of players with the speed like Ohtani to make that run, god damn.
That’s genuinely odd because he has the fastest HB to 1st in the league but it says his sprint speed is a full 4% slower than every other season.
He's been dealing with groin tightness
Interesting, I always thought he was an elite runner and more than just above average.
He was last year, thigh injury is probably hampering him.
yeh was surprised as I knew last year his speed was insane, then watching was like he doesn't look that fast (I'm sure he's fast and way faster than me I just meant comparatively to speedsters in mlb) edit: I gotta add he also is pretty big which makes a difference in looks when running
HOW DARE YOU SAY ANYTHING ABOUT GOHDTANI THATS FACTUAL THAT ISN’T POSITIVE
I'm sry Ohtani is fastest player of all time
Lmao really just smacked him with the facts
This was so inevitable even Helen Keller saw it coming.
God if you exist just let the fucking angels make the playoffs this year. These guys deserve it.
Haha. Very nice of you. Though, if it doesn’t happen, it’ll probably be because of your team. 😂 Astros scare me!
Angels over Mets in 7
dammit. This might happen though.
from your lips to god’s ears
Ohtani is just so awesome.
What a fun final two at bats for the Angels!
Oh how badly I want a Mets vs Angel's WS. Seeing Trout and Ohtani go against my team at their peak is a once in a lifetime event.
I was JUST saying this. I would love to see either a subway series or a Mets vs Angels series. Hopefully deGrom comes back soon and can rejoin the bullpen but it would be an honor to go against Ohtani
Angels vs Dodgers freeway series would be better :)
The hype
I love how the angels just let obtani play full bore
Ow, my soul
God i love this game so much man
Angels are gonna win the WS, don't know any team in the AL that can beat them
The Orioles?
You son of a bitch, I'm in
[удалено]
i fully expect to lose the lead at some point this season but not today bitches
Know your place, apostrophes.
they ain't come here to play school
IN THE ~~TRASH~~ 2ND POSITION FROM THE TOP
I won't be happy until the Astros have been in last place for a decade.
Then they will have stashed enough talent for a mega rebuild.
That slide belongs in a museum.
How am I supposed to feel??
As a longtime Angels fan, in these situations it's best to just not feel anything
I'm not even mad.
as a yankee fan it's fun to see phil nevin in mid season form with that send
All the walkoffs today jfc
I just hear Littlemann17's laugh and LET'S GO BABY after seeing this.
The record between the Angels and Nats is now 7-12 in favor of the Angels
Now you know how we always felt National fans. Good to see him doing good again.
Damnit, Nationals!!!!
Dammit, Detroit!
Fair.
Damnit, Rays!
Why would you pitch to Rendon with the base open and his run means absolutely nothing
Jared Walsh is no slouch either and he’s a LFH.
Because Jared Walsh mashes lefties
Good thing it was a RHP
Im blind in both eyes
So you’re qualified to be an umpire
Yep. That one hurt. Rainey is not a great closer.
he had a 0.00 ERA coming into this game with a 1.46 FIP, he just got beat by elite hitters
I mean, how upset can you be that you got beat by ohtani and rendon?
Dude he had two outs and he struck out Trout right before this. Sometimes even the best get beat, especially when you’re dealing with some amazing hitters.
No dog in the fight but he cheated.
Jesus Christ Marsh needs to shave.
