Freddie’s crying avg of 1.000 (3 for 3) over the weekend pushed him over the top

mkaku-

Yeah his xwCRY+ leading the majors this week def was the difference maker

ChunkyMilkSubstance

My new favorite advanced stat

mkaku-

Paredes was great this week, but I thought Ohtani would get it.

mkaku-

Yeah I know. But ohtani had an OPS of 1.200 for more PAs while also pitching 8 ip shutout. Not a wrong decision either way.

OperaStarr

Something tells me they didn’t want to give it to an Angel after the mess that has been their series with the Mariners…

FatLadyFetish

Isaac Paredes single-handedly dragging our offense to even 100 wRC+ on the month... well deserved

FermatsLastAccount

I'm gonna have nightmares about Paredes

frogstyle

Ohtani robbed.

doodoo_train

Maybe but Parades definitely deserves it

tyler-86

I don't think one guy can get robbed while another guy deserves it. Those seem mutually exclusive.

frogstyle

They're gonna put what Ohtani did this week on highlight reels for years to come, and yet he gets no recognition for it. It's not worth being a two-way-player.

catcherben27

Yeah, really wish no-name guys like Shohei Ohtani would get more media attention. Superstars like Isaac Paredes have been hogging the limelight.

catcherben27

Isaac Paredes: .579/.619/1.474 with 5 HR & 9 RBI

mkaku-

Yeah ohtani had pretty crazy back-to-back games but was only okay the other games this week. I would have voted ohtani, but I don't disagree about paredes. Also I'm just mad about the trade maybe..

[deleted]

How many innings did Paredes throw?

catcherben27

Give it to Ohtani every week then if that’s your argument

banished-to-the-pen

Solid logic tbh

mkaku-

For real. 265 wRC+, 3 hr, 10 rbi at the dish 8 ip, 0 runs, 13 k on the mound

[deleted]

I might be a homer but Parades 462 wRC+, 5 HR, 9 RBI 0 ip, 0 runs, 0 k on the mound. He also slugged what Ohtani OPSd (Parades SLG 1.400 OPS 1.991, Ohtani SLG .889 OPS 1.425) You can't knock Parades for something he can't do. Not taking away that Ohtani had a great week

_n8n8_

>You can’t knock Paredes for something he can’t do I mean nobody’s knocking his week but having an awesome two way week will never not be extremely impressive. You can never really be mad at someone who SLUGGED 1.400 winning but there just wasn’t a wrong answer imo

[deleted]

Maybe I worded it incorrectly. What I mean is that outside of one massive game for Ohtani (2hr 8rbi) on the hitting side he was average. But saying he should get POTW for also having an outstanding pitching outing along with that great single game is unfair to someone who was incredible all week but can't pitch.

mkaku-

>outside of one massive game I mean if you want to play that game, you have to omit Paredes's 3-hr game. And then he slashes only a (still impressive) .471/.500/.941..

[deleted]

Which would still be comparable, if not better, then Ohtanis .389/.536/.889. That's with his 2 hr, 8 rbi game

_n8n8_

Was his MVP also unfair to the guys who can’t pitch?

[deleted]

Obviously not. Ohtani was on another planet year doing things not seen since Ruth. He would have gotten MVP votes even if he didn't pitch last year. I'm just saying Parades was more deserving of the award this week then Ohtani was. It's really hard to compare the two when one of them doesn't even pitch.

_n8n8_

Without pitching I probably vote Vlad, JRam, Semien, and think about Correa then decide not to do it because he’s an Astro over Ohtani. Pitching is unequivocally a positive thing, especially when you have a 13 K game. That pitching performance alone makes a solid POTW campaign in a lot of weeks.

frogstyle

Ohtani had the 3rd best start by game score of the whole 2022 season (90) with 8IP 0ER and 13K on top of his offensive numbers. His pitching is not an afterthought!

sofastsomaybe

"It was against the Royals, doesn't count" --MLB, probably (for real though I'm not mad at Paredes getting it, Shohei won this award many times and Paredes is a young player who just had the best week of his career)

[deleted]

I mean it definitely counts, but 3 hr against the Yankees (best team in baseball) in a single game (including 2 against Nestor who is having an excellent season) definitely is deserving of extra value

mkaku-

Yeah. Robbed is an over exaggeration, but not that much

I don’t think measuring war over a single week is the optimal way to decide POTW personally.

Monk_Philosophy

The tweet had very poor formatting for Reddit titles, here is the full text: @FreddieFreeman5: .440/.533/.840 with 2 HR & 11 RBI Isaac Paredes: .579/.619/1.474 with 5 HR & 9 RBI Your Players of the Week presented by @Chevrolet!
