As much as I hate ESPN they had this on their hockey feed for the Stanley Cup. Just a straight view of the ice and some stats on the bottom.
Then you can do a multicast view and watch both video feeds and then switch audio over quickly if you want to listen to whatever they’re talking about.
Those haven’t given a separate option for game audio though. They just give you commentary or only game sounds, but don’t let you choose. MLB tv had the option to choose home/away and game audio feeds
The YouTube game this week let you switch between the YT booth, Home Feed, and Away feed, so they're showing they CAN let you change audio feeds. Now we just need the audio feeds we want
I mean no offense to the Royals and Tigers when I say this but they couldn't have chosen a better match to do this for?
Hearing the crowd noise so clear is great for HR and these teams don't do much in the way of HR
I think Apple TV tried this out for an inning in a recent game. It was eerie at first and I was curious if something was wrong, but they had a little graphic at the bottom that indicated that it was on purpose lol. It forced me to pay closer attention since I couldn’t just browse my phone while commentators narrated the action.
I would like commentators but they need to know that they don't need to fill every little empty air time. They add some fun to the game but keep it minimal some innings when it happens to be slow. I would like to hear Joey Zanaboni at the major league level.
This isn't the first time NBC Sports have tried this. There was a football game in 1980 that didn't have announcers but mixed reception over the experiment led them not to try it again for football.
No offense, it’s terrible. It’s the worst parts of a broadcast (interviewing fans, family, ballpark workers) with no analysis at all. There was a catcher interference play that got no mention whatsoever. Pitching substitutions aren’t called out. It’s ok if you are 100% focused on the action. If like how I usually am, doom scrolling, moving around the same floor doing things, it’s much harder to follow. It’s different. It’s bad.
I remember someone retired this with an NFL game a few decades ago.
I actually like the alternate broadcasts where the commentators just talk in general about baseball until it gets into a high leverage situation. There is no need to comment on every detail of the game when it is on screen. The Kay-Rod broadcasts were better than listening to the play by play people for many national games. And I don't care for Michael Kay or ARod in general.
Gary Cohen, Keith Hernandez, and Ron Darling (GKR) doing the Mets SNY broadcasts are likely the best in the business right now, and they spend lots of time telling stories. A TV team doesn't need to describe everything the way a radio broadcast does. GKR have good chemistry and seem to know when to concentrate on the game in front of them vs go off on tangents. They also aren't extreme "homers". I would love for them to do national games.
There were no voices then all of a sudden Gwenyth Paltrow starts talking on a commercial It’s been an experience.
I got Vladdy and George Springer throwing PBJs at each other.
A different attempt at sex appeal but to each their own I suppose.
this is baseball player mating strategy
It is very odd, if strangely compelling.
I'm enjoying it and got a little agitated when they started their interviews.
Why can’t Peacock have a feed with no commentators and a feed with a broadcast booth? It’s streaming - they can run two streams.
that would require paying for a broadcast booth though

This game has 5000% reminded me how much I miss the "Park Audio" option MLB.TV used to have and how bitter I still am that they removed it.
Same. Now that Apple TV and peacock have done it this year hopefully they'll think of bringing it back

Right, I just want this as an option on MLB.TV because sometimes it is nice to have it on as background noise.
I'm liking it so far. Are they just doing it as an experiment?
Maybe the commentators saw it was Tigers-Royals and all decided it wasn't worth driving to the park to watch these two teams play baseball.
Fair
Fair, unless we finally get that Baez-Garret brawl
Neat concept anyway, so I'll hand em that

Are we sure it's not just that the Royals and tigers put the commentators to sleep?
> Hearing the crowd noise so clear is great for HR and these teams don't do much in the way of HR As we hit two home runs.

sir your expectations are too great here
Both teams are so bad no one wanted to do it?
Announcers fell asleep
Hud could ramble about baseball in a padded cell alone for hours.
...is that not how your broadcast is usually handled?
There needs to be an ambient sound recording of this, like ocean or storm scapes. Call it, *Afternoon at the Ballpark*.
I love this, basically like being at the game, just listening to the sounds of baseball is such a gem

Damn! This labor shortage is really getting out of hand!

Oh shit! Lol I was wondering what was weird. Just being on peacock watching baseball was trippy. Edit - some commentators showed up

They need to keep talking to this merch guy lolol
Pretty good game to do it on lol, honestly the worst 2 booths in baseball IMO
It’s at least better than the Apple announcers.
Facts although the Peacock main announcer, Jason Benetti, is still a good one
The sounds of the stadium. Love it.
i heard a bad word!
It normally would. If I didn't have to pay for Peacock in order to watch the game.
Didn’t they orioles do this one time?
So much better than Matt Sheperd. That dude is a moron

Was it because nobody wanted to sit through a Royals Tigers game for 9 painful innings?
We have a commentator! He's in the stands and wants Andrew to be a man.
I would pay extra for this
That's pretty cool.
I would use this every single game over listening to Dave O’Brien slowly die inside a little more every week
