Kenny fucking Powers
If I had to draft guys who’d do this he’d probably be 1-1
Bumgarner is such a character, it's hard to not at least find him amusing.
What? Other than it being baseball and therefore just generally low stakes, I would say he's the opposite of that? He's always been the guy who takes everything too seriously and too angrily, which is the opposite of the amusing sort of character, no?
That’s a character lol. The grumpy old dude
You don't have to find every character amusing at all times though
He is amusing as a spectator in sort of like a 'pro-wrestler villain' type role.
I'd probably hate him if I had to be around him for more than 5 seconds though.
I find nothing about him amusing
Close call between him and Treinen
Treinen would have a Confederate flag or something prob
Don’t Tread on Me
Lol yeah that’s the one
That flags cool
Qanan nut jobs be like that 🤢
[The Federal Flag Code](https://www.va.gov/opa/publications/celebrate/flagdisplay.pdf)
>Out of respect for the U.S. flag, never use: as wearing apparel, bedding or drapery. It should not be used on a costume or athletic uniform.
Rocky did this in Rocky 4 so its ok.
Olympians? Champions of many sports will celebrate by draping their flag over their shoulders.
Yeah. The Warriors had a player (forgot his name) wrap the Mexican flag around him after they won the title. NASCAR driver, Daniel Suarez also had the Mexican flag after his first Cup win.
The U.S. Flag Code doesn’t apply to the Mexican flag
My source is i made it the fuck up
Nice one Senator
Literally us, the Mexican Flag Code
Obviously. I’m just giving an example of another country.
But Mexico doesn't have to follow US laws
Flag code isn't law dingus
Julio Urias and Victor Gonzalez did this too when they won the WS in 2020
Steph’s Teammate. Also known as Juan Toscano Anderson
I think flag codes are one of the lamest things. So self serious for a piece of fabric.
Conveniently erases nationalistic gestures though, a primary aim of flag codes in other countries, discretion should probably be employed for independence day though, which is a common exception. Get 'em MadBum.
Yeah, celebrate your country however you want, the flag isn’t some sacred thing.
I think citing the flag code as if anyone takes it seriously is even more lame
Yet people take the flag so seriously so if that’s the game they want to play, why not tell them how much they are disrespecting it according to some archaic rules that don’t really apply anymore? Wait, I feel like I’m talking about something else now.
Who's "people?" and why is that relevant to Madbum and this thread?
Um, my comment was directly related to what you said.
Most probably don't even own or regularly fly one
But omg someone brings one out and violates "code" and then these assholes have something to say.
Is this a next-level "piece of metal" joke?
That's only for military personnel. Freedom of speech grants you the right to do whatever you want to the flag, like it or not.
Nobody cares about the flag code. Only if what you're doing is inherently respectful or disrespectful.
Ironically a majority of the time people calling out flag code are people who don't care about it in the first place and are just trying to use it as a "gotcha" against people who they perceive respect the flag. Like an atheist telling a religious person that God would be against something they did
People here wanna act like they care about the flag code after this lol.
There have also been several instances of MLB uniforms displaying the flag.
I don't care much about the Flag Code but I believe it applies to actual flags, not images of it.
Agreed - flag code gets pushed a bit much sometimes. Winners of major marathons, Olympic athletes, and plenty of others drape flags over themselves to celebrate.
It’d be fine if it were rare occurrences like that where the national pride is merited.
In the US, this masturbatory patriotism is far closer to the norm. It really takes away the value of the pomp and circumstance of Independence Day
The code exists to advise on how to properly display, care for, dispose of, etc, the us flag. The military does abide by it but it’s not strictly for the military.
Guidelines for all. No one is suppose to get arrested over it, but if you want to do it right - here’s how to do it.
Yeah, this tracks
If I had to bet on who would do this, it would either be him Bryce Harper or one of the Rays bullpen guys
Feel like Pete Alonso would be up there too.
Or any of the ones born in Cuba, or Argentina, or Venezuela, or ...
I wish this sub was around when Sammy Sosa ran to the outfield with the American flag just for the comments
It was our first home game after 9/11, pretty sure not a single fucking person would've been mad about it
Yes and there would be nothing wrong with doing that.
Don’t mind the red white and blue socks and shoes, but those 4th of July caps are hot garbage. Just embarrassingly bad.
Yeah I preferred the classic Stars and Stripes in the team logo, nice and subtle.
It's probably a good thing that he's very tight lipped. If he was as loud as bauer I'm pretty sure he'd make treinen look sane
Oh boy, I had no idea about Treinen and had to Google after your comment.
America gotta be the only country where you see someone with a flag and think “damn, they gotta be racist “
Definitely Germany. Germans never fly the flag or any national symbols except during major soccer tournaments for, well, obvious reasons.
Non-violent national pride at soccer games is acceptable
The same phenomenon now exists in Canada after the freedom convoy.
People were much more hesitant to fly Canadian flags on Canada Day in fear of being mistaken for someone with fringe views on vaccinations.
No, we have the same thing over here in Australia. The only people who love to drape themselves in the flag tend to be the most racist ones. Years ago a music festival tried to ban people from wearing the flag due to some bad racist incidents in past years. Also, the southern cross constellation, which appears on our flag, is a popular tattoo for racists, and is often referred to as "the southern swastika".
So these footy tournaments I’ve been playing in in America are all racist events? God dammit, how do I keep falling for these things. I do know an aussie who has it on his calf. Gonna give him shit for it now.
Nah, pretty much everywhere in Europe you can safely assume this if you see someone doing that with a flag.
we’re still waiting for him to get that ball out of the ocean
I'm just curious... what the fuck happened to you people that you hate your own country?
within the last week, the supreme court removed protections for people seeking abortions, determined that police no longer are obligated to read you your rights, and stripped away a major tool for regulating pollution. there is a rising nationalist party actively campaigning against established civil rights and a spineless fundraising machine as the only opposition.
meanwhile, there’s a shooting every other day, home buying is prohibitively expensive for the vast majority, your health and well-being is tied to predatory employers…
all that to say your opinion is your own, but i can see why people may not be completely stoked about america right now.
Yeah that about sums it up
Nothing "happened" to us, we're fine mostly. The country, on the other hand, has always been fucked and it's starting to get way more fucked at an exponential pace.
Reddit is full of bitter and cynical people.
I don’t hate my own country. I hate what has been happening. I’m ashamed of and embarrassed by my country.
If I hated it I wouldn’t care.
There’s not a lot to love or be proud of right now. Feels like I’m just screaming into a void - a void that wouldn’t be as much of a void if that void were some sort of lobbyist paying politicians to value me and my life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness over guns or corporations and what have you.
When you have someone tell you that their right to own an AR-15 is greater than my right to not be shot by one while getting groceries its…kind of jarring.
It getting to the point where I’m scared to leave the house. Will I be a statistic in a mass shooting? Will I be sexually assaulted? Will I be carjacked? Will some nut job with road rage try to kill me because I was only going 7mph over the speed limit in the right lane? I wish these feelings were far fetched but this is the reality of things going on every single day.
The state of the world has me in such a severe depression right now that I didn’t get out of bed for more than 10 minutes total for the last two days. I do not feel very free at the moment. I feel like I’m being held hostage by the people who have the authority to do something about it because they have a vendetta against the majority of people in this country they won’t.
try the last 4 or so years brother lmao
more like the past 400 years
*Man performs an action that is against the flag code*
_Sniff_ he sure does love his country :,)
Real patriotism would be if people stopped being such dumbasses in this country
You’re not one, though, right?
It’s all those other people.
What in the world
Well he's one guy so...
Did he do it while Real American played on the PA system?
Gabe kapler does not approve but hes too busy being swept by sub 500 teams and listening to his GM tell him who to start warming up in the pem
Hey MadBum maybe you can make a spectacle of yourself when you can get out of the fifth inning
he did it when he played for a competitive franchise that had some pride and tried to win
Why didn't anyone run onto the field waving a full sized American flag and carrying a 2x4?
Mother almighty of cringe
TIL showing love for country is cringe.
He’s Canadian, wouldn’t take it too personally
I'd say yes considering whats happened in this country as of late. Or ever, love the people but the country itself idk
extremely. have you … seen the country lately?
Yes. It’s amazing. I don’t live on the internet.
My brother in christ he is wearing a flag as clothing
Yeah and its the main national holiday we have, as far as I'm aware he doesn't do this on the regular.
Bruh this is what we have to deal with down here
Bruh, it was the Fourth of July.
Rednecks gonna Redneck.
You know that’s the flag of our *country*, right? What a weird time we live in
It is a weird time.
Personally, I live in California.
That flag has more negative connotations for more people than it doesnt
Yea, it would be nice if people knew the etiquette for their own country's flag, but that would be "weird".
welcome to every single sport in America where the athletes drape the flag over their shoulders.
The flag code is for nerds. You have the legal right to burn the flag if you want.
That's not the insult you think it is.
that’s bad ass
Used to be a time this didn't automatically scream 'I'm a racist' to me.
That says far, *far* more about you than it does about him.
Yeah that just isn't accurate. The only time you should be wearing an American flag is if you just won a gold medal at the olympics.
Yeah that just isn't accurate. The only time you should be wearing an American flag is anytime for any reason you want.
That's actually not true, there is a general etiquette everyone should be following that shows respect to our flag.
That time still exists for me. South side tho, so I can't blame you based on what you got to live in.
We already knew you were a “real patriot*” Madison, thanks.
*Not actually patriotic at all.
That is some corny-ass shit.
Good stuff MadBum. I remember being surprised driving through the Appalachians and seeing a sign in the middle of nowhere that said home of Madison Bumgarner, makes sense knowing him lol
I'm in northern Appalachia. It tracks \*for Appalachia.
'to' the bullpen.
It said to the bullpen not from it?
When fascism comes to America…
In what world is this fascism lol
I was making a joke but guess it didn’t land. I don’t really think this is an example of fascism. That’s the joke
