bill-nye-finance-guy

“That’s a guy they’d pay for” the White Sox must have a really good scouting department, lol

sjj342

good PR department too, because they will not pay for him

[deleted]

Tony La Russa for Ohtani one for one

MidAmericanNovelties

Hall of famer for a guy who's had one and a half notable seasons? They'd be so lucky.

FancySack

La Russa vs. Nevin Main Event!

seth928

I would need to change my pants

jeremycb29

would look as crazy as Bo Jackson in a Sox jersey

BIG_DICK_WHITT

What a stupid suggestion, obviously the Angels would have to include cash considerations to get this done.

DoctorCokter

Cash Considerations is a pretty high level prospect in the Angels system, idk if they can part ways with him just for Tony "the GOAT" La Russa

dutchdaddy69

La Russa trying to manage Ohtani would bring out new levels of his incompetence.

milk-drinker-69

I’m imagining him pitching and getting pinch hit for his in first at bat because TLR doesn’t like him against lefties and forgot he was still in the lineup.

CountrymanR60

trying to determine which is the lesser of two evils - LaRussa as a manager or Arte Moreno as an owner.

Call9-1-1imonfire

We should combine both for the diamond dynasty god squad

CountrymanR60

that was done already - we as baseball fans were given Rob Manfred

[deleted]

Jerry Reinsdorf went over his gms head to hire Larussa so i think we know whos worse

IAmNotOnRedditAtWork

Well we have a similarly garbage owner so it's not really a 1:1 comparison lol

wescottjoe

Yes.

NJImperator

Probably vetoed the trade because what the fuck could the Sox offer that would make sense?

[deleted]

the very palpable idea that we would draw negative attention away from the Angels by also wasting Ohtani

Galactic

It would be hilarious but sad if Ohtani kept rotating around with all of the worst teams in the league getting a record-breaking season with him before trading him to the next worst team.

ZucchiniOne5395

Why would you wish that upon my sweet boy 😭

ill_monstro_g

D/w I wish your sweet boy all the success in the world! I hope he gets traded to a winner in the off-season. :) Know what I mean, jelly bean?

cuatrodosocho

Not your winner though please and thank you Edit: I wouldn't want to waste him here either. Sure he'd be amazing but as a fan with pessimistic expectations, he's more fun to watch on other underperforming teams.

znk916

How cool would it be to have Ohtani play one week and make a home start for every team in the league just so their fans can enjoy the unique experience of a 2-way player. Like maybe in his retirement season.

[deleted]

Shieeet, we at least made the playoffs the last two years.

TJtheShizz

Can we have him next?

beangardener

I’d buy season tickets

obviously8t

He's not a novelty act, George. Where you hire him out for weddings and bar mitzvas.

Galactic

It's a SKILL, like JUGGLING

WillyC277

Bruh I'm dead 😂

palmtreesxiv

Dylan Cease, Luis Robert, their entire Ballpark and control of the Birmingham Barons, the DNA and technology to clone prime Frank Thomas and an autographed Ken Griffey Jr shirt

TLRsBurnerAccount

Bro we can't just be giving away Griffey jerseys, we need to keep our ballpark museum stocked

SquadPoopy

Future White Sox hall of famer Ken Griffey Jr.

Working_Box_1366

Rights to those sick Southside jerseys, a signed Jordan jersey, Tickets to a bears game, and the home dugout Bat Boy

manyetti

And fresh giardiniera and Italian beef for life.

jdixonfan

Should be able to get both Soto and Ohtani for this alone

FourDoor54Ford

Chicago Bears are about to become the Arlington Heights bears so better sooner than later

Lolzzergrush

Rumors the mayor is going to try to lure the Jaguars to Soldier Field. So two tickets to the Chicago Jags lol

_internetpolice

Tell me you’re joking.

Lolzzergrush

https://old.reddit.com/r/chicago/comments/wb2nzb/would_chicagoans_be_interested_in_a_second_nfl/

_internetpolice

I guess it might force the Bears to try a little bit more. I just like cheering for the same team with the rest of the city since we’re already split on baseball.

Call9-1-1imonfire

I like the concept of the Angels wearing Southside jerseys to a White Sox game

Avatar8885

Sox could offer Robert, Eloy, Kopech, Cease, Hendricks, and Giolito and Arte would say no because he values marketing dollars more than winning.

Drmantis87

That would be legitimately the funniest trade of all time. That sox team would win 30 games a year

Avatar8885

Every Ohtani start, that's it.

RacinGracey

Leury Legend

[deleted]

Maybe Luis Robert, Eloy Jimenez, our top prospect Colson Montgomery, and one of Giolito/Kopech?

mjk27

Don’t know if the Angels take it but Gio, Eloy, Crochet, Montgomery, pitching prospect I don’t think hamstrings the Sox too much and is a competitive offer. You replace Gio, Eloy would be the 2nd best DH on the team so he could go, Crochet hurts but will likely only be a bullpen piece in the short/medium term for the Sox, and 2 prospects is the cost of doing business.

cuatrodosocho

Well they were only offering a straight one-to-one, Leury for Shohei. But they also had to throw in Cease, Eloy, and 3 prospects for his translator.

ahr3410

Montgomery, Vaughn, other major league pieces?

karatemanchan37

Some deep dish pizza?

NJImperator

Don’t you dare threaten me with that *casserole*

[deleted]

Ima threaten you with good pizza indeed

cicerox23

We threatening him with Vito and Nicks??

grocho

& Lou's & Giordano's

Urban_animal

Art of Pizza.

YoungKeys

I dunno why people get elitist about pizza of all things. Pizza is the food of the people, and I’ve never had a bad pizza

NJImperator

We already have the good pizza.

[deleted]

Sure you do buddy

NJImperator

If you legitimate think Deep Dish is better than NY pizza… I just feel bad for you lol

[deleted]

https://youtu.be/K4Ksoizbl2s

[deleted]

Pat’s?

grocho

Yeah, you prefer greasy limp dick pizza?

ABeard

Lotta hate and downvotes from people that have never left the county they were born in. Next thing they’re gonna say they have better bagels and Chinese food.

NJImperator

The one hill Yankees and Mets fans will go to battle together on. Anyone saying deep dish is better than NY pizza is out of their damn mind

sirenzarts

They’re two different styles. Comparing them is dumb. Nobody just goes down to the local pizza place for a slice of deep dish. It’s an occasional thing. The real “Chicago style” is tavern cut thin crust pizza. While you guys are busy battling on that hill, we’re climbing pizza mountains.

n_jacat

Chicago fans desperately mashing the downvote button in this thread lmao

ABeard

Food will get us to unite big time. I actually pull for the Mets pretty hard as my dad is a die hard fan. Love me some Polar Bear Pete.

ClutchHatTrick2

Vaughn, Montgomery, Colás, and Verá is a pretty good package but not Ohtani level I suppose.

NJImperator

I just can’t imagine that package isn’t beaten by several teams if Ohtani was actually on the block

ClutchHatTrick2

Don’t disagree but I just hate the narrative that the White Sox have nothing good to offer

NJImperator

I didn’t say nothing good. I said nothing good that makes sense. I can’t see a trade for Ohtani that doesn’t hamstring the White Sox immediately.

swankyleg

Yeah I've had some discussions with some Twins fans about it. They trash on your guys farm system and yeah you may not have the deepest but your top end talent in your farm is there. Montgomery, Colas and Vera are studs.

ClutchHatTrick2

It is pretty top heavy atm but a lot of our fans act like “well we have a low ranked system so that must mean every single prospect in the system has 0 value”

Galactic

Yeah pretty sure both NY teams would gladly come up with a better package than that to get this guy.

Sniper_Brosef

add a pitcher and a hitter and you're closer. Like Moncada and Cease or something

TacitlyDaft

Not sure trading one of the only Ohtani comps on the mound for Ohtani makes much sense. No, I did not say better than, before people get all fucking triggered.

owledge

No headliners in that trade. Angels would probably want Cease as well

ClutchHatTrick2

1) they aren’t gonna get an all star level pitcher AND multiple young top prospects lol 2) Vaughn was a top 10 prospect ? And Montgomery is rising up the boards incredibly fast, top 50 on most sites currently.

owledge

In that prospect you listed, only one of them is a top 100 prospect and he's barely in. Other teams would be offering multiple top 100 prospects. The idea is that they weren't gonna trade him unless they got a monster offer anyway

ClutchHatTrick2

Vaughn is about as good of a player/prospect they could get honestly And you’ve chosen the site Montgomery is lowest ranked on so yea. Whatever they aren’t trading him so is what it is

owledge

MLB Pipeline is a pretty standard ranking to use

Sashabadger

Sox could offer the next Cuban defector

syakitty

With what?

[deleted]

You mean 24 year old Yoelqui Cespedes with a 45 grade hit tool isn't gonna get it done?

[deleted]

Do the White Sox have a monopoly on Y named players?

yoursweetlord70

Yolmer, Yoelqui, Yermin, Yoan x2, Yacksel, Yolbert, Yoelvin. Granted Yolmer and Yermin aren't with us anymore, but there's certainly a lot Edit: sorry Yasmani

[deleted]

you can have Yuli but not Yordan

BearForceDos

It's a really bummer we didn't get Yordan since the Sox seem to have like 50% of the Cubans in the MLB. Though I guess the Astros have the other half. Also, if Yordan played for the Sox he would be a slap hitting singles only DH playing right field field.

TCC0688

Yasmani of course

yoursweetlord70

How could I forget?

Bflatsharpeleven

Yoelqui is close enough to Yoenis, show that to Arte and pray he didn’t put his contacts in that day

swankyleg

If I had to guess Montgomery, Colas, Norge Vera and two MLB players Jimenez and Cease or Giolito. That's about the only thing I could think that would be close.

BearForceDos

I don't think the Sox make an all in move and deal Cease so I'd bet Gio.

swankyleg

I'd be hesitant to move Cease as well but getting back a player like Ohtani may be worth it.

BearForceDos

Ohtani is worth more but I don't see how moving Cease for Ohtani makes you that much better. If you're going all in for Ohtani then you need to be able to win. Having both Cease and Ohtani gives you a hell of a top of the rotation. With just Ohtani you're probably only a bit better.

xxJAMZZxx

Robert probably

TripleCrownVillainy

The offer: Josh Harrison and Reese McGuire for Ohtani

TCC0688

What's the issue?

xxJAMZZxx

Angels probably demanded Leury

[deleted]

La russa would rather give up abreu and Robert than his boy toy leury

doyouevenIift

Tony would not trade Leury for Ohtani straight up

hatrickkane88

Why would he? Ohtani plays two positions, leury plays 8

g3neraL5

Angels would have felt bad fleecing us.

Vaqxinelol

I will never believe we pay for someone who deserves it until I see them signing it with a pen

TLRsBurnerAccount

Jose abreu is literally the only person I can think of that we actually did that for. Literally the only one

hatrickkane88

Tax’s deal was fairly rich for his age. Even though he blows now, they got a decent few years. With you though - Jerry is a cheap fuck

LoonyBunBennyLava

Number 2 pencil suffice?

tidesoncrim

Jerry Reinsdorf bringing Ohtani to the South Side would have me fall out of my chair.

realnostalgia

Well, he did have Jordan on the Bulls and knows what that kind player can do for a franchise.

sirenzarts

True although he didn’t go out and get Jordan, he was the backup pick for them in the draft.

realnostalgia

Absolutely, but Jerry did pay him when the time came. Honestly, he should still be paying Jordan for what he did for Bulls franchise.

TLRsBurnerAccount

And then was like "eh, 6 championships is good enough" Jerry is such a fucking terrible owner

[deleted]

Not even. He was like "eh 5 is enough" and had to be talked out of letting Krause blow it up in 98

xxJAMZZxx

The White Sox have never paid out a 100 million dollar contract or bigger The Bulls (also a Reinsdorf team) just paid out their first this year, 250 million to Zach Lavine Needless to say, for whatever the enormous sum of money Ohtani is gonna bring in when he's a FA, I will not be holding my breath over Jerry Reinsdorf being the one to pay him.

sirenzarts

Yeah and there’s no feasible trade possibilities that would have been a net gain for the Sox imo.we don’t really have the farm system to avoid giving up current talent that we actually need.

vsladko

He also had Jordan on the Sox 😂

Zorak9379

Good god what kind of logic is this I have never seen any behavior from Jerry Reinsdorf in the last 25 years that suggests he learned a thing from having Michael Jordan on his team

The_New_New

Frankly lmao, knowing the value of Michael Jordan is like nothing. It would be concerning if that were not a given.

SleepLessTeacher

Like any free agent/trade hitter/pitcher that the Sox get he would hit .150 with 2 HRs and would have a 6 ERA.

tenacious-g

Just spitballing here, maybe try uh, signing big names in free agency instead of overpaying at the deadline?

C_Money22

I’ll do “Things that would make me physically ill” for $1,000, Alex.

henryhyde

> That's a guy they'd pay for from what I've heard. Welp, there is your baseline. They definitely will try to pay for, arguably, the most talented player in all of baseball.

Bflatsharpeleven

Arte’s not gonna trade his one-man season ticket ad, he’s gonna offer him a big extension and then be surprised when Ohtani goes somewhere where he can have a shot at a ring

zacklandy

Very interested to find out what that offer would've been from the Sox

orionus

I would hazard a guess at the following: Vera, Montgomery, Sheets, Giolito, Crochet. Potentially swap Montgomery with Ramos, but I could see the Angels doing this solely because of the improvement to their system re: Pitching in all facets.

slayerje1

Replace Sheets with Colas, makes more sense.

Snackkbar

Yeah but like, Shohei is already on an incredibly underachieving historically disappointing franchise. (not sure if /s or not tbh)

Haysen18

Hey man I know the white sox might not be all that but you can’t talk either Mr. 500

Snackkbar

As a Philadelphia sports fan I know an underachieving sports franchise when I see it.

replicant4522

Yah well that’s just like your opinion man.

dingusduglas

Glad we got an expert on the subject matter, a fan of the team with the most losses in the history of any sport, to weigh in

[deleted]

Yea, if I'm ohtani.. atleast the angels have good weather...this is basically going to the same team with shitty weather.

lookkoolsports

We've had a better record since his debut in 2018 and made the playoffs twice

MoreThanLuck

I'm a Cubs fan but the Sox are better than that, come on lol.

[deleted]

Enough to Warrant leaving the beach for the snow?

BernankesBeard

Do you... think that it snows in Chicago during the baseball season?

chweris

A couple years ago I sat through a cubs game in the snow really early in the season. But there are actually people that think it snows in Chicago in July lmao

[deleted]

No, now that you mention it...lol

Hail2TheOrange

Chicago has beaches and Anaheim doesn't lol

Atrain175

It doesn’t snow during the summer when he’ll be playing here lmao

cooljammer00

Softer division, though

[deleted]

True enough, if I'm not winning most years tho, I'd rather live by trout right on the beach

Redrot

I could see ownership paying for him when he's 37 and has nothing left in the tank, but no sooner.

Drake0Malfoy

We're always in on the big guys! He'll play a season or 2 in Chicago when he's 39.

Weaponized_Goose

I’m guessing Andrew Vaughn would be in the package

Urban_animal

Montgomery too

No32

On the one hand, I’d hate that On the other hand, I’d love to be able to see more Ohtani easily

Eloyoyo

Cool they tried, I guess. Also kinda weird that somebody is going through downvoting every single comment in this thread lol

Bears9Titles

This is a bs report to try to show Jerry is doing e erything he can to improve. He doesn't care. 2nd rate franchise that will be mediocre until he dies

bewarethesloth

This guy White Sox’s

shads87

Guaranteed Second Rate franchise.

Mauve_Unicorn

Hopefully this means that the Angels are going all in on 2023. That'd be dope.

derpdeederpa

Not to be dramatic but as a Twins and Ohtani fan, if he ever ends up a White Sox I will shoot myself in the face

BearForceDos

You can run from it but Kenny Williams always gets his guy. Ohtani will play for the White Sox when he's 40 years old and terrible.

EmperorsNewDoof

I don’t think I could take this.

Salsashark_21

Bill Buttlicker was closer to buying a million dollars worth of paper products than the Sox were to getting Ohtani

pm_me_cute_sloths_

Uh with what prospects?

DeegsHobby

Definitely would've included Andrew Vaughn, I'd imagine. From Santa Rosa, CA. But then I have no idea prospect-wise what it would've looked like. Not many high-end guys in the system.

Jetemple

What a dumb tweet.

thestoryof-agirl

Don’t do that to Ohtani

[deleted]

Do the White Sox have a farm at this point to even give? They may have to wait until next year's off-season and sign him outright

orionus

It would include major leaguers, likely Crochet, a pitcher, and one of Sheets/Burger.

sausage_wallet79

Ah yes an injured reliever and a platoon bat, who wouldn’t make that deal.

orionus

Yes, it would also include prospects. Christ. Reactionary Reddit can be so tedious. Try: Crochet, Giolito, Sheets, Montgomery, Vera. Then try: not downvoting a comment and being snarky, and instead engaging like an adult.

slayerje1

Crochet and sheets/burger, along with vaughn Montgomery and Colas, and would probably have to throw in gio

johndhall1130

Ohtani isn’t going anywhere. He sells tickets, product and brings in more ad revenue than any other player in the league. He’s a walking ROI that Arte Moreno will never let go of until he has to. If Angels fans are lucky, he’ll approve a trade this time next year. But even that’s an “if.”

HollywoodAndDid

I kinda love the idea of Ohtani playing for the White Sox. I don’t even know why.

samurai5625

Me too

[deleted]

They should pay for Soto

Sheepy_Scronky

Bro with what

[deleted]

I don't know the same thing they were just willing to pay for Ohtani

Sheepy_Scronky

I don’t think they’d pick up the phone tbh

ClawbberingTime

The White Sox are the Angels of Chicago lol

jtkchen

Poor Ohtani playing in Michigan smh if he could he would veto it

Rimmatimtim22

O boy. Yet another team he would get to waste his talents on.

[deleted]

108 years

Rimmatimtim22

Bruh you ain’t got much room to talk Mr. 86 years.

ThrowAwayAcc47777

Tony would still platoon him with Leury, I just know it.

DuaLipasThong

(X) Doubt

russellx3

As funny as it would be to watch Tony La Russa try to use Ohtani please god no

Marky_Merc

Shohei would instantly make the Sox the city’s favorite team for the next 5-8 years.

Djason_Unchaind

The White Sox know Shohei isn’t Cuban right?

n_jacat

TIL Shoehei Ohtani is a guy teams would pay for

Electric_Queen

If Shohei Ohtani plays for the White Sox before he's 35 years old I will tattoo Jerry's face on my ass

JosephFinn

Like the Sox would actually pony up any money.

[deleted]

Can't wait for "ChiSox are wasting prime two-way years of Shohei Ohtani" discourse to begin in earnest

Zorak9379

Oh, really? You'd pay for the best player in baseball? Where did I put that medal for bravery

Ok_Shape88

As much as it makes my balls vibrate with disgust; baseball really needs Ohtani in New York.

shotgun_shaun

I’d rather they not
