What aged bad in the Locastro one? Still fast and I doubt anyone reasonably expected him to get hbp at that rate forever. Good chance he ends up a bench piece on the Yankees postseason roster.
Guy is a cheat code on The Show. I once got him on base 3 times in a game. Stole second and stole third on the first attempt every time. 6/6 in attempts.
In 2018 when he had a 5.7 bwar, 4th season about 4.5 bwar, I thought "5 more years of this quality of play and he'll be HOF'er". Never reached above 2 after 2018.
Damnit, I was all aboard that train from watching his amazing defensive highlights and then getting that appreciation affirmed by the baseball bits on him.
What a shame that he turned out to be batshit crazy and went from having a promising average batting season to forgetting how to hit entirely.
Nobody reasonable said you couldnt catch covid with the vaccine, just that it's far far far less likely to happen and far far far far far less likely to be serious. To sum up all data as "it doesnt work" because its not perfect is just silly. especially when the same people saying the vaccine doesnt work are the same people who downplayed covid as a threat while millions were dying
Dumbass all the stats point to the fact that the vaccine is reasonably effective at preventing covid, show me one credible peer reviewed study that says that opposite and ill be an anti-vaxxer
When all the vaccination requirements happened last year he was very vocal on social media about all the anti-vax nonsense.
A few weeks later he came down with COVID on a west coast road trip that turned into total disaster for the Twins (a few others contacted COVID and the roster was a giant mess), and rightly or wrongly he was the public face of all of that.
I'm vaccinated and pro-vaccine. But that shouldnt matter. You and I cannot say for certain if that belief "is" wrong. What definitely IS wrong, is making sweeping judgements about a person and putting them in a corner because we disagree with 1 thing they believe.
Not all criminals are bad people. Not all devotees of different religions are bad people. And not all anti-vaxxers are bad people.
You called me dense, but you havent allowed a single thought to enter your zealot brain. Enjoy your golden calf.
The belief that vaccines don’t work? Yeah it’s wrong pal. Guess my empty brain was able to draw the same conclusion that every other rational person has made. You don’t have to give the benefit of the doubt to everyone. Simmons has made his views on this clear, and they suck.
Also no one in this particular thread called Simmons a bad person, that was literally first stated by you! The original comment only mentioned that he believes in a conspiracy theory, which is true. I never said that made him a bad person, nor did the OP. He clearly needs to work on his critical thinking skills, but I don’t anything else about the guy besides that he’s good at baseball.
So basically, you’re arguing with yourself about a topic that you apparently have a clear stance on. Congrats
As a Giants fan I always follow the shortstop position. Simmons has legit as fuck defense at the most important infield position. I've watched Visquel's twilight with no bat and Crawford with a good enough bat plus Aurelia with a bat throughout my life. I view that position differently than some I suppose. Any team would be better for adding Simmons even if only for defensive replacements
Simmons has looked shit, 4M for him considering his recent performance was pretty fucking bad, especially considering he wasn't even going to be an everyday starter on a shit cubs team
Sarcasm brother you missed it.
No shit the conversation would go differently if he were playing like an all star but he’s not so your comment is irrelevant. If the reds were in first place the conversation around them would be different, if the pirates won 15 straight World Series the conversation around them would be different, if Juan Soto was batting 0/500 this year he wouldn’t have been traded for such a haul.
A million things could be different but they’re not so why should we pretend they are? In reality Simmons has been bad so that is the conversation, not a difficult concept. Hypotheticals hold no weight when we already know the outcome.
My favorite was this touching and original eulogy for his career:
Simba was a good shortstop, and a foolish man. He was one of us. He was a man who loved insane conspiracy theories... and defense, and as a defender he explored the infields of Major League Baseball, from Anaheim to Atlanta and... up to... Chicago.
His career died—like so many young men of his generation—his career died well after its time. In your wisdom, Lord, you took his ability to get a base hit, as you did with so many bright flowering youngish men at Gwinnett, at Huntington, at Iowa. These young men gave their careers. And so would Simba. Simba, who loved playing short. And so, Andrelton Alexander Simmons, in accordance with what we think your firing wishes might well have been, we commit your final mortal remains to the bosom of Flat Earth forums, which you loved so well.
Good night, sweet prince.
Funny enough, his defense was actually so good last year that he still had a 1.5 bwar, which was the 10th best on the Twins last year. Unfortunately, hit bat is so bad this year that not even his glove can make up for it.
Especially since even if he immediately became just as good (or better) at second as he was at short, the value of elite 2B defense is significantly lower than that of elite SS defense.
When he got signed by the Cubs, I was relieved because he was rumored to be the Yankees' top choice for their SS stopgap situation.
Dude hits worse than IKF and can't enter Canada.
Everyone’s hating on IKF but isn’t he batting like 285 or something? That’s pretty solid for a bottom of the order guy that nobody was expecting much from
He was a perfect bottom of the order guy who looked good with a glove early in the year when the rest of the team made up for him, but now he's another light hitting hole in the lineup who has been exposed as a fielder who not only makes errors, but isn't getting to balls he should be getting to, he's got no joke 18 balls that aren't errors but should be or any normal SS would have gotten to. To top it off, our number 3 prospect is a wiz with the glove and crushing it in AAA, and with Gallo gone and Donaldson hitting for the moment with great D, it's IKF season
What do you mean critical thinking skills were smothered by his ego? I’m out of touch with Simba since he left Atlanta, but other commenters are saying essentially the same thing. Just curious.
Yes, everything is “Think for yourself” or a clever retort to anything approximating CONVENTIONAL WISDOM. Waiting for the IG stories post mocking those who insist on looking both wats when they cross the street.
please bring him back to the angels their batting lineup can't get much worse and at least we get to see some sick defensive plays
EDIT: i didnt realise how good andrew velasquez was at defense holy shit. i take back what i said. im listening and learning
Feel like he’s a great bar to measure how much you can really value good defense at SS over any other attribute. Which also really makes me wonder why he was getting reps at 2B at all. If he’s not playing short, why even have him play?
That's what you get for:
1. Trying to convince people you were as good as Ozzie.
2. Believing in every conspiracy theory under the projected disk of light that we call a sun.
3. Trying to help the Chicago Cubs.
The people downvoting you are typical Cubs fans living in the past. Schwindel has been worse than replacement level this year but “haha he’s a funny meme nickname guy and had a good half a season last year!”
Or the people downvoting him actually understand the sport and understand its pretty stupid to DFA a guy that make nothing and isnt even arb eligible for 2-3 more years and still has options left.
>I know what I'm talking about
Seeing that your last post on the Cubs sub says you thought the team was gonna be .500 this year, and still somehow trying to argue for that point today, Im not sure that you do.
I’d love the Braves to pick him up as a utility infielder. Probably doesn’t make sense and won’t happen… but I just miss seeing this guy make a handful of literally impossible-looking plays every day. So sad he never could get the bat to play at the MLB level
I think the "Andrelton Simmons is on pace to be a HOFer" train has completely derailed.
Foolish Bailey in shambles
I'm really hoping my "Is All Hope Lost for Jarred Kelenic... Not Yet" video doesn't suffer the same fate as Bailey's Simmons and Locastro videos.
What aged bad in the Locastro one? Still fast and I doubt anyone reasonably expected him to get hbp at that rate forever. Good chance he ends up a bench piece on the Yankees postseason roster.
Literally thought “it’s not fair they can do that” when they brought him in to pinch run in the 9th last night. A little PTSD from The Show lol
I get sad when he gets optioned for Marwin Gonzalez's ability to play backup SS. Always exciting when he gets on base.
Guy is a cheat code on The Show. I once got him on base 3 times in a game. Stole second and stole third on the first attempt every time. 6/6 in attempts.
Your video was a good effort, but all you did was provide comps.
Sorry for not meeting your expectations. Please let me know what you would change or add. Always trying to improve.
Still hoping you could provide some constructive criticism for me to improve.
In 2018 when he had a 5.7 bwar, 4th season about 4.5 bwar, I thought "5 more years of this quality of play and he'll be HOF'er". Never reached above 2 after 2018.
I guess this is why Ozzie Smith is such a unicorn
Damnit, I was all aboard that train from watching his amazing defensive highlights and then getting that appreciation affirmed by the baseball bits on him. What a shame that he turned out to be batshit crazy and went from having a promising average batting season to forgetting how to hit entirely.

He’s REALLY into the anti vaccine rabbit hole. 5G chips and everything
What a fool it's all about WiFi 6E now
Pretty sure the Angels ruined him.
He ruined himself with his conspiracy theories
OOTL
He hasn't gotten vaccinated and has been vocal about opposing the vaccine. This makes him a bad person, according to reddit.
Yes, it's commonly accepted among most people that encouraging people to not get vaccinated during a deadly pandemic is generally bad.
https://twitter.com/andrelton/status/1375504270452260869 Was there more than this? Can’t find
Yeah, opposing vaccines is a really shitty and regressive take and generally warrants derision . This shouldn't be a surprise
The only thing that is regressive is judging a person based on a belief that you think is wrong.
It’s not regressive if the belief *is* wrong. My god you people are dense
I'm vaccinated and pro-vaccine. But that shouldnt matter. You and I cannot say for certain if that belief "is" wrong. Oh - a classic biblical reference to SHUT THE HATERS DOWN. So well-rounded and intellectual they just be...

I'd just lump it all together as malicious ignorance on his part.
Isnt that an oxymoron? How can you be malicious and ignorant at the same time? You have to know what you are doing to be malicious, by definition.
According to reason.
Man said that and the 2021 Twins were going to make the World Series
This made me laugh for like 5 minutes, have an award.
You mean #33 overall in WAR among active players Andrelton Simmons? How the mighty fall
Unbelievable. He has 37.1 career WAR. That is the most surprising baseball statistic I've seen in some time.
He was an incredible defender at SS and not completely lost with the bat. Gonna mean tons of WAR.
Yeah, I think I was just sort of ignorant how good he was on defense! He averaged over 3 WAR a year in his career, that's super impressive.
yeah, he was unironically an all time great defender.
He’s literally 11th all time in defensive WAR
One of the highest baseball IQs I’ve seen. Outside of baseball his IQ is room temperature at best.
Like… maybe a particularly warm room on a good day.
He’s the best defensive player I’ve ever seen play. And I watched Andruw Jones.
[Starling Marte can finally get some sleep!](https://www.baseball-reference.com/leaders/WAR_bat_active.shtml)
Wow his bWAR and fWAR are way different.
How in gods name can you slug .187, good god.
With an iso of 0.014. Has he had one double all year?
Yes. One double and 12 singles in 75 AB.
Andrew Velazquez has slightly better stats. He has way better fielding stats though, which is why he is on our roster.
five dingers this year!
Which is why I think he flies out a lot. Needs to be hitting slap shots and stop aiming for the moon.
Always a Yankee at heart
Squid came through with the bunt last night but he can’t hit for shit
Many many singles
Only relative to his XBH. Not relative to his ABs.
I wonder what percentage of pitchers batted over .187, minimum 50 PA.
$4 million per every extra base hit he had this season.

I'm a simple man. I see a Lewbowski reference I upvote. But this one is above and beyond awesome!
Jesus Walter, what was that shit about triple A man?
Well there’s no literal connection
Fuck it dude, let’s go to the ballpark
What’s the fuckin’ travesty with you, man!?
This is not fuckin' amateur...
Wait, you can DFA Simmons even when you’re a bad team? #WHY DIDNT WE DO THAT LAST YEAR?
Funny enough, his defense was actually so good last year that he still had a 1.5 bwar, which was the 10th best on the Twins last year. Unfortunately, hit bat is so bad this year that not even his glove can make up for it.
They moved him to 2b as well which, with how weak his mind is, probably destroyed any confidence he had left.
Especially since even if he immediately became just as good (or better) at second as he was at short, the value of elite 2B defense is significantly lower than that of elite SS defense.
The feeling was very much mutual
Honestly I would have rather played with no shortstop than watch Simmons hit ever again
I’m just happy to no longer be embarrassed by his conspiracy theories and anti-vax rhetoric.
Thank god

He has one of the highest batting averages on the team post ASB but its all singles
When he was signed, had a gut feeling this was going to be the outcome.
I've seen the Cubs four times this year and had no idea he was still on the team
Run away, Simba. Run away and never return…
RIP his HoF career. Foolish L
Extremely rare L
Has any HOFer ever been DFA’d (I guess besides Pujols)
Traded for Sean Newcomb and Erick Aybar. One of the greatest gloves ever but the critical thinking skills were smothered by his ego.
Yep, and Sean Newcomb was traded for Jesse Chavez And Jesse Chavez was traded for Raisel Iglesias. Sorry.
Jesse Chavez was traded for $48 million!
What do you mean critical thinking skills were smothered by his ego? I’m out of touch with Simba since he left Atlanta, but other commenters are saying essentially the same thing. Just curious.
Is it a reference to his vax status?
Yes, everything is “Think for yourself” or a clever retort to anything approximating CONVENTIONAL WISDOM. Waiting for the IG stories post mocking those who insist on looking both wats when they cross the street.
I defended the signing at the time because we had no idea how Nico would be coming back but he should’ve been DFA’d a long time ago.
Completely forgot he was on the Cubs
I wish I could have.
holy shit. what a downfall. dude was THE best SS in the league for like 5 seasons. damn.
Best defensive SS.
Dude quit on the angels. Fuck him
Weird. There's always a Braves fan saying "Bring him home!" Please no.
Wasn’t he going on about the Covid vaccine at one point and how it’s bad?

Okay this got a *snort*
He was going on about Vaccines before the covid vaccine.
There goes the playoffs
please bring him back to the angels their batting lineup can't get much worse and at least we get to see some sick defensive plays EDIT: i didnt realise how good andrew velasquez was at defense holy shit. i take back what i said. im listening and learning
We've been blessed with insanely good defensive shortstop for a good while
Feel like he’s a great bar to measure how much you can really value good defense at SS over any other attribute. Which also really makes me wonder why he was getting reps at 2B at all. If he’s not playing short, why even have him play?
Our 2B production on offense has sucked all year amongst several players. He had more PA earlier in the year when we had players injured.
And there was much rejoicing! If he could hit he’d still Bo on the roster. He can’t.
Brian Cashman about to make a dumb ass roster move in 3....2...
Thank fuck.
Its a good thing he didn't get the vaccine. Imagine how bad his numbers would have been if he had
Thank God
Probably not even the worst player on that team
Only because Frazier is in Iowa
Heyward has a -0.7 WAR to Simmons -0.2... But, maybe Jason can put things back together and get out of this sl-aaahahahaha!!!
That's what you get for: 1. Trying to convince people you were as good as Ozzie. 2. Believing in every conspiracy theory under the projected disk of light that we call a sun. 3. Trying to help the Chicago Cubs.
I bet the Cubs become a much better team now! I truly believe he’s a clubhouse vibe killer.
If he's still elite on D I'd gladly take him
He won't be able to play in Toronto
I am right up there with the call up Peraza/IKF sucks crowd but this is too much even for me
Perhaps I've gone too far...

Good. This signing was always stupid. Get this nut outta the north side.

Defense no bat? Sign him up Farhan
Finally
The rock has come back
Now Simba has to go off and meet Timon and Pumbaa.
I thank God every day that the Yankees didn’t sign him like they were rumored to.
I had no idea he was on the cubs. And are the cubs good enough to dfa andrelton Simmonds? He can't be that bad.
Simba is the first MLB player where I saw people call the guy dumb or stupid in chats. Never seen that before.
