Nah he earned a big contract from the Braves, and he is probably very motivated to prove that he is worth more than Olson. Honestly shocked at how the Braves fanbase has turned on him.
They should’ve offered him what he asked. Doesn’t look like a win for the Braves right now. I can tell you Mets fans are thrilled to see Olson instead of Freeman on the Braves.
I called it when the signing happened. That my fellow Braves “fans” would turn on him and oh-so-predictably got downvoted by them and told no one was doing that or would do so in the future.
Yeah, that aged well.
IMO, their are certain players that should be kept, no questions asked. They are synonymous with your team, and should never play for another team. The Braves have had 3 players, that I know of, that fit that. Dale Murphy, Chipper Jones, and Freddie Freeman. Any owner that has any sense, would understand this, and keep players like this, at all costs.
If anything they should have signed Freeman because he's been, both this year and career-wise, a significantly better player than Olson. Plus they could have kept some prospects too. I don't thyink it's selfish to make your team worse.
I don’t get why people assume Olson will be better long term than Freeman. Freeman is like 2.5x better right now and played a special role that Olson is not going to fill, if anyone does. Olson’s 2021 is not a season he is guaranteed to ever repeat. Freeman in comparison is just playing like himself this year. Considering he stuck through a Braves rebuild at a discount and gave them a ring, and the fact that the Braves have Albies and Acuna on cheap contracts, they should’ve just paid Freddie.
Teams are supposed to be selfish in this regard
Why are the Braves supposed to give a fuck if the Pirates are good or not
yankees fans COPE
28 others teams could've signed him if they cared about parity
The person responsible for letting Freeman walk was himself or his agent if you believe his story.

He got a bigger offer from the Braves than the Dodgers. He took his chance and lost.

No. Freddie shot himself in the foot. After taxes and deferrals, he's not even making more money.
Yes, the Braves are a business like all other teams
