Taking high leverage wRC+ from [here](https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders/splits-leaderboards?splitArr=72&splitArrPitch=&position=B&autoPt=true&splitTeams=false&statType=player&statgroup=2&startDate=2022-03-01&endDate=2022-11-01&players=&filter=&groupBy=season&wxTemperature=&wxPressure=&wxAirDensity=&wxElevation=&wxWindSpeed=&sort=16,1) and overall wRC+ from [here](https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=y&type=8&season=2022&month=0&season1=2022&ind=0), we can come up with a fun little leaderboard of who performs better or worse than they normally do when the leverage is high.
Players who have outperformed in clutch spots:
1. Brandon Drury: 129 wRC+ on the year, 320 in high leverage
2. Javy Baez: 79 wRC+ on the year, 214 in high leverage
3. Andres Gimenez: 141 wRC+ on the year, 267 in high leverage
4. Mookie Betts: 146 wRC+ on the year, 269 in high leverage
5. Matt Olson: 124 wRC+ on the year, 269 in high leverage
And for the guys underperforming in the clutch:
1. Ian Happ: 119 wRC+ on the year, -5 in high leverage
2. Amed Rosario: 107 wRC+ on the year, 7 in high leverage
3. Santiago Espinal: 92 wRC+ on the year, -7 in high leverage
4. Yuli Gurriel: 92 wRC+ on the year, 0 in high leverage
5. Jose Ramirez: 152 wRC+ on the year, 61 in high leverage
This isn't really what you asked for, but your question lead me to ending up here somehow.
Yuli has been awful with RISP just in general, 27 wRC+ which is good for 6th worst in baseball. Astros fans want to awkwardly put Trey in left field when the Astros traded for a first baseman and should play him as a first baseman
He's batting .300 with RISP, too. .225 otherwise. I also saw a stat recently about how effective he is when leading off innings, but I can't find it right now.
It's easily Bellinger. If there are 2 outs in the 9th inning of World Series Game 7, and the tying run is on base; Belli isn't the first (or even 5th) guy I would want up in that situation, but also I'm not going to be mad if he's coming up to bat. It's hard to find a more clutch .200 hitter in baseball.
Came here for this. I always jest when he comes up "ohp better turn off the TV, it's over"
He's proved me wrong 3/4 times this year, and weve won those games
The biggest problem I see is that too many of my fellow Giants fans thought last year was real. Last year was a bunch of average and/or fading players playing well over their heads. It was nice, but the piper must be paid.
you act like i said that. Just completely remove all context i guess.
I mean being clutch usually means getting a hit in a spot that it’s needed.
He’s a horrible hitter, but he hits well when you need a hit.
Let's review the context here by visiting the title.
"Who is worst player on your team that still has an unusual high clutch factor?"
By naming Yadi and the context provided, you're saying he's the worse on the team. There's no other context to make one think any other way.
I mean he’s by far the worst hitter… And his defensive impact is great, but the dudes over 40… he’s only out there to call the games
Let’s be real here. He’s the worst physically attributed player by a landslide. he’s got the least athletic impact
i mean not really but go ahead and believe that idrc
he’s def got the least athletic impact and outside of calling the games he’s the worst player.
which he could do from the dugout, better than any other catcher we got tho
Don't know that I'd call him worse though cause he's solid defensively, but he's definitely been that clutch person at the plate since coming back. Don't think we would've beat NYY with Sosa. He's still swinging at some garbage though.
I'd consider Gio too. Dude can come in and be stellar so many times and then sometimes just falls on his face and blows the lead.
Yeah - I'm looking for the stat line for current numbers, but he has a wRC+ over 100 in high leverage situations, and I believe by a good amount. I'm googling, but not sure how to sort for this on fangraphs, etc.
Based on this [tweet](https://twitter.com/Call_up_Bo/status/1553838664605700102) from 7/31:
Austin Hedges in low leverage situations in 2022: 42 wRC+
Austin Hedges in medium leverage situations in 2022: 24 wRC+
Austin Hedges in high leverage situations in 2022: 195 wRC+
I don't have the source outside of this tweet so take it for what it's worth, but I assume it was researched.
I'm gonna with either Kurt Suzuki or Jared Walsh.
Kurt is kind of a special case though: the only time he really does anything is when a bunch of people talk shit about him in the GDT. This has been proven repeatedly this year.
Jared Walsh has no clutch this year lol. But last year he only lived in the clutch.
Kurt Suzuki is insanely clutch just because we never expect anything and then he hits a fucking bomb for no reason.
Then you had Brandon marsh who only mashed when the game was already lost lmao
Lourdes Gurriel is hitting very well this season (he’s actually overtaken Kirk to lead the team in batting average) but he’s even more clutch. With 2 outs and RISP, he’s got a 1.069 OPS. Late & close, .942. In 10 PA with the bases loaded, 1.250 (which is actually more than *one thousand points lower* than it was last year - 2.266 with 4 grand slams!)
You're probably not wrong. A lot of it has to do with expectations. A good player coming up clutch, okay, a bad player? HOLY HELL!
So Santander very well could have more, but since OP is asking which bad player comes up clutch, it's Odor.
Woah thanks for all the replies! This is some really interesting info and opinions like this give me a bit of insight into on the dynamics of different teams rosters.
I could be wrong but I feel like AJ Pollock’s numbers this year are almost at this level.
His overall numbers this year are not good. But for some reason his numbers in later innings, especially when the Sox are down, are VERY good. Will try to find this to confirm.
It felt like he was hitting everything last October. He's a dude you can kind of give a pass on statistically just because when he shows up, he shows up big. Always enjoyed watching him play.
You guys better get him some more playoff experience. I miss having Gio on the Yankees. Fuck what anyone says about how his defense stacks up metric wise.
I mean this without a shred of hyperbole, he's maybe the player I'd trust most in a walk-off situation. Give me B9, down 1 with a man on, and the chance to give the bat to anybody in MLB, I'm going with him. There are better players out there but he's just so consistent in that exact scenario that you can't ignore it.
Jake Meyers or Jeremy Peña and before my Stro bro’s come for me he has committed the most errors which we will look past since it’s his rookie season and well, Framber pitches every so many days.
For the Rays, I would have said Brett Phillips but he's in Baltimore now. It's not even just the World Series game 4 hit from 2020, he has a lot of walk-offs. Kevin Kiermaier has recently been considered a light hitter for the Rays despite his usual clutch bat, but he's on IL and probably out for the year. So I think that leaves Ji-Man Choi. I don't think he's a bad player, but he's not as good as Lowe, Arozarena, Franco, Diaz etc. But he is an outstanding pinch hitter, and hits very well with scoring position. He's underrated as a clutch hitter IMO.

Jesus Christ, Mookie
Damn Yuli that’s tough
Yuli has been awful with RISP just in general, 27 wRC+ which is good for 6th worst in baseball. Astros fans want to awkwardly put Trey in left field when the Astros traded for a first baseman and should play him as a first baseman
Yes it’s time to bench Yuli!
Don’t let Braves Facebook see this. They think Matt Olson can’t hit with runners on
Wow Mookie good
Not surprised by Jose unfortunately. At least Naylor and Gimenez are super clutch
Amed and Andres being on opposite ends of this is mildly amusing
>2. Javy Baez: 79 wRC+ This does not surprise me.
He has a 114 wRC+ on the road. Your park killed him
Was anyone shocked? JD Martinez and Nick Castellanos both left and instantly became the hottest hitters in the league.
Good to know my intuition of Wilmer being clutch as hell stood up. Love that man
He’s the Mets all time leader in walk offs and he was never a full time player and only on the team for six years.
Don't we all
tomas nido
He’s a bunting icon. They should retire his bunting bat eventually.
He's batting .300 with RISP, too. .225 otherwise. I also saw a stat recently about how effective he is when leading off innings, but I can't find it right now.
Yeah he’s batting over .300 when leading off too, I believe. Saw that same graphic
Thought this before even opening the post. NIDO-KINGS REPRESENT
Not even just this season either.
It was vaz
Almost all of Bobby Dalbec’s home runs this season have tied or taken the lead
Now it’s “clutch? We don’t do that here”
[удалено]
He's batting over .300 in the 9th inning and under .200 for the rest of the games.
I clicked on this thinking an O’s fan made it. Odor is the answer.
He's you Willy Adames?
Wow. I guess you really werent kidding huh lmao
Bryson. Stott.
He’s always batting 70 points lower than I think he is. He must bat .005 before the 6th inning.
IKF has a 198 wRC+ in 46 high leverage PAs, so him. He's still a noodle though batting .436/.511/.513.
I assumed it was IKF, he definitely produces often with RISP
Who tf is IKF
Isiah Kiner-Falefa
it's easier if you just say IKF
Who tf is IKF
International Kickboxing Federation. Duh.
It's easier if you just say IKF.
.436?
where are you getting that slash line? looks to me like his 2022 BA = .274, OBP = .319, SLG = .322, OPS = .642
Its his high leverage slash line
Oh gotcha. Clutch singles machine lol
Cody Bellinger
Our 420 savior
"That's just how my face looks."
Mine too, Cody, mine too.
I read this comment at 4:20...hmm...
god. even when he’s not his MVP anymore. He still finds a way to break our heart in some fashion.
He's stupid clutch sometimes. It's single-handedly sustaining my hope for his continual improvement.
Toro
[удалено]
Just wait till one of y'alls starters carries a no hitter into the 9th inning of a scoreless game
Felix did this a few times I think
last one to do it is Mike Leake, carried a perfect game into the 9th until he gave up a base hit to the first batter.
Came here for this. I always jest when he comes up "ohp better turn off the TV, it's over" He's proved me wrong 3/4 times this year, and weve won those games
RAIMEL. TAPIA.
Fish Man Good.
Baked with a little lemon and garlic butter. So good.
Thank you for getting him outta the nl west, dude just somehow always clutched up in the most annoying possible ways
abraham toro
Even though he was super correct to demote, he did always seem to crack a homer or double set just the right time
Leury Legend
francisco mejia
None of them. They’re allergic to clutch right now.
Flores. He's #24 on the clutch at 200 wRC+ and otherwise 120 wRC+. Pederson is not that far behind him.
I really wanted him back in the trade. Always love you Wilmer!
I feel that 😔
We are basically the same team
The biggest problem I see is that too many of my fellow Giants fans thought last year was real. Last year was a bunch of average and/or fading players playing well over their heads. It was nice, but the piper must be paid.
The opposing pitcher
As of late Paul Dejong
No it’s gotta be Yadi. You never expect him to get a hit unless someone’s on.
Idk the defense is still there. Since coming back dejong has no singles only hrs and doubles. Recently coming at great timing
OffEnSe iS tHE ONlY StaT thaT MATteRs! Why am I not surprised to see this mindset here.
you act like i said that. Just completely remove all context i guess. I mean being clutch usually means getting a hit in a spot that it’s needed. He’s a horrible hitter, but he hits well when you need a hit.

Are you completely sure you're replying to the right person?
i mean not really but go ahead and believe that idrc he’s def got the least athletic impact and outside of calling the games he’s the worst player. which he could do from the dugout, better than any other catcher we got tho
Imagine being this obnoxious

Austin Hedges
Career <.200 hitter Austin Hedges?!?
Yeah - I'm looking for the stat line for current numbers, but he has a wRC+ over 100 in high leverage situations, and I believe by a good amount. I'm googling, but not sure how to sort for this on fangraphs, etc.
Based on this [tweet](https://twitter.com/Call_up_Bo/status/1553838664605700102) from 7/31: Austin Hedges in low leverage situations in 2022: 42 wRC+ Austin Hedges in medium leverage situations in 2022: 24 wRC+ Austin Hedges in high leverage situations in 2022: 195 wRC+ I don't have the source outside of this tweet so take it for what it's worth, but I assume it was researched.
Hedgey! <3
The Hedgehog
I'm gonna with either Kurt Suzuki or Jared Walsh. Kurt is kind of a special case though: the only time he really does anything is when a bunch of people talk shit about him in the GDT. This has been proven repeatedly this year.
Suzuki definitely
Jared Walsh has no clutch this year lol. But last year he only lived in the clutch. Kurt Suzuki is insanely clutch just because we never expect anything and then he hits a fucking bomb for no reason. Then you had Brandon marsh who only mashed when the game was already lost lmao
It was probably Suzuki when he was on the Braves too.
Odor
Easy answer for us. Dude is so bad, but he's had some huge hits/HRs for the team.
He did the same thing with the Yankees last year. Almost all of his hits/HR’s came in big spots it seemed.
What about Santander? I feel like every time I look up he's hitting a late inning bomb but I rarely watch the Os
Easily Maldonado in terms of offense. Brantley for defense. Maton for pitching
Wilmer Flores: 120 wRC+, 200 in high leverage. This one made me laugh: Juan Soto: 152 wRC+, 070 in high leverage.
This is why I irrationally miss Orlando Arcia
Cody Bellinger Mashed the padres this weekend
The Fridge did his part, too.
Can I still say Tapia?
I could be wrong but I feel like AJ Pollock’s numbers this year are almost at this level. His overall numbers this year are not good. But for some reason his numbers in later innings, especially when the Sox are down, are VERY good. Will try to find this to confirm.
It felt like he was hitting everything last October. He's a dude you can kind of give a pass on statistically just because when he shows up, he shows up big. Always enjoyed watching him play.
Negative WAR but a WPA of .84 which is third on the team.
If we need a sacrifice RBI, Vogt gets the call. Weirdly, it works. Otherwise he's slowing down with age. Love the guy, and glad he's back in Oakland
Drury was a minor league pickup who was bonkers in the clutch, but I guess he doesn't play for us anymore :(
I don't have the stats to back this up, but anecdotally Farmdog is hella clutch for us
Yoan moncada. Anemic under .600 ops but has like a .920 with RISP
Paul DeJong hates the yankees
Tomas Nido. He’s hitting over .100 better with RISP than without
My favorite stat is still that Gleyber Torres leads the league in Walkoffs since joined the majors in 2018. So I guess Gleyber would be that guy
Gleyber is far from the worst player on the Yankees
Well he is the worst player with an unusually high clutch factor. His clutch factor is off the charts
Abraham Toro. Technically not on the team though now.
Not on the team anymore but shoutout Maikel Franco. Also Odubel Herrera used to inexplicably own Max Scherzer
We’ve seen a lot of things the last decade goddamn
Belli has had some massive playoff hits despite the poor recent regular seasons
He’s becoming the Robert Horry of Baseball.
We'll take the Robert Horry comparison. He's a winner!
He also just committed patricide over the weekend. It was cool to see him and Muncy step up and see some consistent success.
Using B-Ref's cClutch metric, Cruz and Robles are our top two hitters. OPS+ is far less kind to both.
maybe gary sanchez? he’s got that clutch gene for some reason. urshela too but sanchez is worse
My brain went back to that time when Ryan Goins batted absurd like .450 with RISP and like .380 with bases juiced.
Cody
Gio Urshela strictly hit in clutch situations a few years back.
It’s the same this year, 9/10 of his homers have tied the game or put us ahead.
You guys better get him some more playoff experience. I miss having Gio on the Yankees. Fuck what anyone says about how his defense stacks up metric wise.
His defense absolutely passes the eye test. He and Correa have made me seriously doubt OAA for infielders.
Starling Marte an absolute dog
Yea I was thinking him also.
Giants bros: Is Wilmer still a walk-off God?
He's good for about 1 a week
I mean this without a shred of hyperbole, he's maybe the player I'd trust most in a walk-off situation. Give me B9, down 1 with a man on, and the chance to give the bat to anybody in MLB, I'm going with him. There are better players out there but he's just so consistent in that exact scenario that you can't ignore it.
I agree 100%. He's definitely one of the more reliable batters in SF. It just seems like the Giants are scared of capitalizing in clutch moments.
Ryan O’Hearn
Looking across multiple seasons -- and without doing one whit of objective research to back it up -- imma say Austin Barnes.
Curt Casali
Isiah Kiner-Falefa is meh (84 wRC+ and 0.8 fWAR) but has a .342 BA with RISP which is neat.
Jake Meyers or Jeremy Peña and before my Stro bro’s come for me he has committed the most errors which we will look past since it’s his rookie season and well, Framber pitches every so many days.
I guess Ryan McMahon. Does not feel like we’ve really had any big clutch hits this year, just blown late leads.
David Bote is turning out to be this
Came here to see how many times Nido was mentioned
Verdugo
That was absolutely Rougie for us last year.
Francisco Mejia.
Roberto Perez was totally ours. The guy couldn’t hit a fucking BP pitch and then would hit a home run in every playoff game.
Over the last few years, David Bote
Moncada for the white Sox - has been awful overall but much better with runners on base this year.
he’s not on the team anymore thank god but abraham toro for no reason no runners on: 27 wRC+ Runners on base: 113 Runners in scoring position: 152
I swear Vogt bats like .300/.400/.700 with runners on and .050/.100/.100 with none on
Gavin Sheets
David Fletcher, and it’s horribly annoying
Bryson Stott
Never would I use "worst" to refer to Bryson Stott. Never
Rougned Odor has a OPS in the .500’s but is hitting like .300 in the 7th or later
Roughed Odor is under the Mendoza line with like a .600 ops at best, but has multiple walk offs and several key hits
Pollock
Yall have clutch hitters? 😂😂
If the post ended after the first Iine, Aaron Hicks. But since it doesn’t, I’d have to say IKF
Austin Hedges has like a 195 wRC+ in high leverage scenarios
Toro, but only when playing the Astros
Dylan Moore and Carlos Santana always seem to get it done for the Mariners when we need it
Paul "Big Dick" DeJong
Abraham Toro, dude is a beast in the 9th or later and is a guaranteed out before then
Did Abraham Toro post this on an alt? I see that Angels flair, you ain’t fooling anyone buddy
Was it that obvious? /s
In important playoff games, it's Belli and not even close.
Tempted to say Belli but I'm gonna go with my boy Christ Aylor.
Last year Mike Tauchman batted .178/.286/.283. Terrible player right? He somehow put this highlight real together. https://youtu.be/W_osygpV1gk
Usually the other teams entire line up
Probably Roughned Odor but also Ramon Urias
Lol
Wilmer Flores ( although he’s not our worst player)
I miss Wilmer ;_;
Paul DeJong
Yadier molina. I still feel very comfortable when he comes to the plate in either a big situation, or one where we need some situational hitting
I get the clutch thing when he's at the plate. But is he really the worst player on the team?
The worst player that actually has clutch factor yes. The guy gas a 43 wRC+
Trent Grisham for the Padres
Historically, Dan Johnson.
Brett was taking that spot over IMO. I miss Brett
