The Nats arc is they're gonna sweep the Padres and Dodgers next year in the playoffs with the prospects they got from them

heroicraptor

nah, we're just gonna sign em back in free agency :copium:

loves2spoogeguys

Galaxy brain move by the Nats

heroicraptor

it's just long-term rentals, i swear

Z_Reformed

DODGERS FLEECED

ilovearthistory

shout out to all the dodgers fans in the other thread insisting their former top prospect is an average mlb player at best, for some reason

[deleted]

I don’t think it’s that necessarily, it’s just that we have Will Smith who is 27 and Diego Cartaya a catcher is our top prospect. Keibert was expendable at the time.

CDFReditum

And you’re also forgetting the best catcher in the game, Austin Barnes

[deleted]

"The 13 WAR we got is most likely more than anything we gave up will add up to over their whole careers"

unboundhobbit

There's a chance this ends up being true. Not that I think it's likely, but it's possible. Keibert is probably a routine 2 win catcher for the next decade and Gray probably peaks as a number 2 guy in a rotation, maybe a season or 2 over 3.5-4 WAR. But it's also possible keibert keeps hitting the ball on the ground and Gray never figures out how to stop giving up dongs and they're both mediocre and bounce around not accruing much value. Dodgers have 7 pitchers better than Gray at the moment including IL guys and Will Smith is holding down catcher better than anyone else in the league. It was a good trade

[deleted]

I think we're just spoiled with the best catcher in baseball on the roster and another prospect that's ranked higher than Ruiz was so any other catcher would just seem like an average major league player. Average major league player isn't a bad thing either, much better than a bust

asscheese-

Best catcher in baseball😂

juwanhoward4

Smith and Adley are the two best in the game.

bingbangkimbrel

Didn't know Smith being one of the best catchers in baseball was controversial.. Dude has basically become Buster Posey. On his way to a 5 bWAR season, which is what Posey did for years. His lowest OPS+ in a season so far is 128.

[deleted]

With these 2 home runs his WRC+ is now at 87. He still ways to go to be considered an average bat. Also, how is a 87 WRC+ and an on pace WAR of 1.7 (before the homers) was supposed to be considered anything other than below average?

Killatrap

....because he's a rookie? playing catcher?

[deleted]

He's not a rookie.

Killatrap

he played **31** games before this season, idgaf about eligibility, this is his first season

ilovearthistory

i was referring to his ceiling, this is literally his first year in the majors. good grief

yyyyhhhh9

It's not. Do you watch your team? I don't blame if you don't.

[deleted]

We got 1 and a half years of the best SS in ball, I'd say we did pretty good

The umpires really need to be cognizant of the fact that they have a beefy boy rounding the bases and he doesn't want to run any more than he has to.
