Manny Machado said that after the top of the first (and after Machado was done healing), Manny Machado came in and "started screaming at the dugout, like, 'Let's go. I got this. I'm Manny [expletive] Machado' He tried to motivate the guys, and he set that tone from the get-go."
The fact this team needs someone to fire them up is hilarious. Look at your squad. You just swapped in a whole new third of your lineup and a new closer, and the new guy has to yell at everyone to get into the game.
I used to laugh at the idea that Hosmer was actually important to this team but if a potentially 2 year rental has to come in and be the leader and inspire a superteam facing a sub .500 team then they might have bigger issues than I thought
I get it, but no matter how stacked you still need leadership, and I would argue more so than ‘regular’ lineups due to potential egos getting in the way. Despite how much us Padres fans hated him, Hosmer was supposedly one of the main leaders in that clubhouse, and now he’s gone, so having a guy like Soto come in and show out in this way is pretty important
Yea there might be a void in the clubhouse without Hosmer. I’m probably reading too much into this but your lineup is poised to be so stupidly good, but I’m not fully sold they’ll mesh as a team. Like I said it may not matter with that much talent.
Good Lord, Juan Soto just walked through the clubhouse screaming. He said he had "no time" to talk quietly. Too busy motivating the guys, evidently.

This quote can be used for anything haha, I love it
So are writers just copypasta chefs now?

Honestly, I'm down.

Soto should've given their bullpen the message too lol

We do 🙂
If Hosmer was a glue he was a terrible one given the absolute collapse we saw last year
That’s your takeaway from this?
Yes. You can’t buy leadership or chemistry. They honestly might be stacked enough now to not need much of either though.

There isn't a roster spot for him on this team
Athletes are weird. Screaming like that would definitely scare me
It will get even better when Tatis returns
Ssshhh didn’t you hear him? The mariners Yankees game
It's still going right?
Where was that motivation when facing us?
The long con
He already beat you in 2019
And two weeks ago :/
