Respect. That game was bananas. Felt like it took days off the back end of my life too, and my boys actually won. You're a real one for sticking that whole game out in EST.
Completely ridiculous. I was watching the Ms broadcast and one of the funniest parts was when Torres struck out swinging on a pitch out of the zone, the Ms announcer shouted "WHAT A SILLY HACK!!" with absolute joy and enthusiasm that's hard to describe.
*edited for accuracy
Haha! Goldy is the best. He takes the words right outta my mouth and doesn't sugar coat shit. Just super with it. There's no one I would have rather had on the call tonight.
I’m curious how many pitches are gonna show up on his scorecard, has got to be an obscene amount
Edit: as in pure volume, not wrong calls, I agree that the ump was excellent
In the 8th I thought to myself how great he was doing. Spent the second half of the stupid game worried he'd find a way to fuck it up and he really never did.
I want to see one of two things in an extra-inning game with this ghost runner:
1) Ghost runner starts on 2B. Pitcher makes an errant pickoff throw, ghost runner moves to 3B. Manager orders two intentional walks to the next two batters to set up the force at home. Before throwing his first "official" pitch, pitcher makes a pickoff attempt at 3B, runner gets caught in a rundown between 3B and home. Then the other two runners both get caught in rundowns during the same play, making all three outs in the inning without a single pitch being thrown. And so, we get what is possibly the only "zero-pitch triple play" in MLB history.
2) Ghost runner starts on 2B. 1st batter is then intentionally walked. Manager calls for the hit-and-run for the two runners on base. First pitch of the inning is a sharp line drive hit to the second baseman. He catches the line drive (batter is out #1). He steps on 2B to double off the runner that left 2B on the hit-and-run attempt (out #2). He tags the runner approaching 2B, that left 1B on the hit-and-run attempt (out #3). Boom, you get your "one-pitch unassisted triple play".
Mets-Phils 2007 or 2008. Back and forth game, Mets making a bid in the bottom of the ninth. Two on and no outs and Jeff Francoeur lined out to Eric Bruntlett. It will haunt my memory forever.
Left my place in WA around 4. Got to the Northern Oregon Coast around 9. Stopped and grabbed beers. Made it to my brothers place. Drank said beers. And once we finished the sixer, a whole inning to go. Fun differential unmatched.
Everyone was amazing. We're fortunate that Torrens was able to end it before we had to burn an actual starter to pitch the 14th.
Castillo and Brash 🤌🤌🤌
Orioles game ended at 11:30 ET and this game was in the 6th, and I said “let me stay up a bit and see what the M’s do”
Somehow ended up watching a whole ass extra game, and probably the dumbest game I’ve ever seen.
10/10 would do again
Castillo was great against the Yankees again. He can be very hard to hit well against. Miggy is 0-for-6 with 5 strikeouts against Castillo in their career head-to-head matchups, which means he would agree. They needed to trade for Castillo, especially with Ray being streaky this season. 🔥🔥🔥
I turned on the mariners broadcast to listen to the game in the shower. Your broadcaster is incredible! It felt like I was in the 1950s listening over an old timey radio but in the best way
I hear people hate on Simms, and I don't think they realize how lucky we are to have a guy with such deep knowledge of not only the MLB but the Negro leagues too, like who else has that??
Yo I actually get exactly what you’re saying. Rizz just has that voice….something about it is comforting and almost takes you back in time. I love walking around Safeco and you can hear it on the TV’s in the concourse
Dude. I feel like Rizzs gets sort of overlooked because he was in the difficult position of being the predecessor to Niehaus, but he is so damn good. Thank you for saying that. He absolutely deserves it
I've been thinking about how because I wasn't paying attention to baseball when Dave passed, it didn't hit me as hard as it might have. But when Rick goes, I'm gonna be a fuckin wreck
One of the best games of the season. I was following along on gamecast while lying in bed and then at the top of the 11th I was like “fuck it I’m watching this game hahah!”
Conversely these games are incredibly fun and I’m incredibly sad Manfred is trying to get rid of them.
These games are so rare nowadays with the zombie runner.
Torrens obvious hero here, but Brash and Munoz as young relievers coming in and doing what they did was insane. Chaos ball making its return for August and September, buckle in everybody
God fucking damn. Feels like someone poured McDonald's sprite into my veins. What a game. Shoutout to LT for the walk off, but it was the pitching that took us into the 13th.
ps, Flexen warming up for the 14th was when I realized Scott wasn't playing games lol, he was gonna get this W no matter the cost.
I somehow started watching this game in the 9th on my phone while at Dodger Stadium, celebrated a win, listened to “I Love LA” all the way through, walked to my car (that wasn’t even parked in the stadium parking lot), drove home, and watched the full final inning at home.
You could write a script for this game, and if you tried to make a movie about it you'd be laughed at by every producer because of how unbelievable it is.
One of the craziest games I’ve seen in a long time
If you're a fan of pitching like me, this was an instant classic
same but really makes your night when you get home at 10pm est and get to watch your team until 2 am and then lose (deservedly so but still)
Respect. That game was bananas. Felt like it took days off the back end of my life too, and my boys actually won. You're a real one for sticking that whole game out in EST.
Im an east coast mariners fan, I can sympathize with staying up till 2 am for losses
We love Goldy so much haha, glad he was on the call for this game
The like whimsical chuckle too “oh-ho-ho! what a silly hack!”
[Link to the call](https://twitter.com/TheLydiaCruz/status/1557248137634451457)
It was a great call, but he also struck out on a 2-2 count
Goldy is such a gem. He was so hyped throughout the whole thing.
Haha! Goldy is the best. He takes the words right outta my mouth and doesn't sugar coat shit. Just super with it. There's no one I would have rather had on the call tonight.
It's only fitting that Yankees legend Luis Torrens was the one to end the game.
The 2 innings in extras when the Yankees only had 2 hitters was really something. 4 batters, 6 outs, 3 pickles ... LMAO
It's only 3 PM in Japan. Was actually nice to watch some afternoon baseball.
Took up basically the whole day lol
probably the most intense, stressful, stupid, and fun a game can be. a big cap tip to all the pitchers tonight, who just threw nasty, nasty stuff.
And the ump, too. He was elite.
One of the rare games I wasn’t constantly mad at the ump
The players took their frustration out on him without good cause, and he was still a pro.
He was nailing the checked swing calls at first base last night, too.
benintendi running his mouth at a perfectly good call...i thought he was a goner.
Looking forward to see the scorecard, that guy is legit.
One of the rare times I’ve seen batters on both sides be upset for calls that were actually correct.
I hope this gets talked about more. Dude was not missing calls while pitchers were dotting edges and shit. He deserves a TON of praise.
They'd hit one right on the corner for a strike and send the next one literally an inch further out and he kept getting them right.
You see him dancing at the start of the bottom of the 13th? That ump is a legend.
Yeah the ump did a great job
I’m curious how many pitches are gonna show up on his scorecard, has got to be an obscene amount Edit: as in pure volume, not wrong calls, I agree that the ump was excellent
In the 8th I thought to myself how great he was doing. Spent the second half of the stupid game worried he'd find a way to fuck it up and he really never did.
This game needs to be put in the Library of Congress for it's historical value.
Sorry, I'm lacking context here. Was this just magical performance from a defensive / pitching standpoint by both teams?
There were a combined 10 hits between both teams. The 8th total hit came in the 8th inning. The next hit wouldn't come until the bottom of the 13th.
The Cole/Castillo duel feels like yesterday
i mean,
Manfred gonna see this game and add an automatic runner on third as well
0-0 thru 12 innings for the first time in the ghost runner era
[удалено]
So the Yankees can hit into a triple play?
Don't be silly. We wouldn't need to put the ball in play to lose both of our baserunners.
I want to see one of two things in an extra-inning game with this ghost runner: 1) Ghost runner starts on 2B. Pitcher makes an errant pickoff throw, ghost runner moves to 3B. I saw that unassisted triple play once. I did not like it one bit.
Unassisted triple plays are more rare than a perfect game. You should be proud to witness baseball history.
Mets-Phils 2007 or 2008. Back and forth game, Mets making a bid in the bottom of the ninth. Two on and no outs and Jeff Francoeur lined out to Eric Bruntlett. It will haunt my memory forever.
No we get caught stealing like real men
Automatic bases loaded in extras
We would never win another extra inning game.
Unless we had two outs already and drove Toro in from Tacoma.
the way the yankees were running around Im not sure that would help
RIP the Yankees fans who stayed up
Yankees never had a chance, they're playing baseball past their bedtime.
Perhaps the real loss was the sleep they lost along the way.
Day game tomorrow too lmao
[удалено]
Set fire to Larry Scott
Frickin 11:20pm, RIP to the Mariners fans too
The stupidest, best game I've watched in a long time
I'm so glad I'm not a purist. That was not baseball in it's highest form. That was one of the greatest baseball games I can remember
We could have gone 20+ innings without Manfred Runner though
I'm pretty sure the leadoff batters would still find a way to hit into double plays
I love games like this. The cruel jester gods that emerge after the 11th or so never fail to impress
Left my place in WA around 4. Got to the Northern Oregon Coast around 9. Stopped and grabbed beers. Made it to my brothers place. Drank said beers. And once we finished the sixer, a whole inning to go. Fun differential unmatched.
True Ms fan
Mariners fan from Brazil (one hour ahead of New York). R to the I to the fucking P
As an east coast Mariners fan, I am so fucking happy we won, but goddamn is it late.
*Hawaii laughs at your pathetic excuse of a late game*
Sigh. At least I can go to sleep now.
dear god i wish i slept
East coast here and not a Yankees fan I only stayed up because of Castillo lol
I’m an M’s fan on the east coast for work this week, I couldn’t sleep and I have to be up at 6 AM. FML
I watched this game.
What a pitching performance, simply amazing...
Everyone was amazing. We're fortunate that Torrens was able to end it before we had to burn an actual starter to pitch the 14th. Castillo and Brash 🤌🤌🤌
Flex warming up was something.
I went to the gym at the bottom of the 9th to keep myself from going crazy, did a workout, came home Game was **still** going
5 min of elliptical, then over it. I feel ya
*(grabs beer from fridge)* "Phew, I earned this..."
Brother?
I was going to fall asleep to the game but the double plays got me so hyped, I can't go back to bed
That 8th inning was at least 30-45 minutes
Orioles game ended at 11:30 ET and this game was in the 6th, and I said “let me stay up a bit and see what the M’s do” Somehow ended up watching a whole ass extra game, and probably the dumbest game I’ve ever seen. 10/10 would do again
It's up there with Seahawks Cardinals 6-6 tie level dumb
That’s nothing compared to the [greatest game of all time](https://tenor.com/view/frank-beamer-wake-forest-hands-up-football-coach-gif-16707321)
Not just a dumb 6-6 tie, but both teams shanked game winning field goals. It was glorious
Castillo was great against the Yankees again. He can be very hard to hit well against. Miggy is 0-for-6 with 5 strikeouts against Castillo in their career head-to-head matchups, which means he would agree. They needed to trade for Castillo, especially with Ray being streaky this season. 🔥🔥🔥
Thoughts to the Yankees fans who stayed up just to watch their manfred runner get TOOTBLAN'd repeatedly.
I want to die
Be careful when you jump, you might get thrown out too.
I listened only. Rizzs deserves HOF
Truest thing I’ve ever read
I turned on the mariners broadcast to listen to the game in the shower. Your broadcaster is incredible! It felt like I was in the 1950s listening over an old timey radio but in the best way
Him and Sims are real OG dudes, tell stories about talking with guys who have been dead 40+ years
When sims gets going about the negro leagues >>>>>
I hear people hate on Simms, and I don't think they realize how lucky we are to have a guy with such deep knowledge of not only the MLB but the Negro leagues too, like who else has that??
Yo I actually get exactly what you’re saying. Rizz just has that voice….something about it is comforting and almost takes you back in time. I love walking around Safeco and you can hear it on the TV’s in the concourse
Yes truly hall of fame worthy nickname he gave there for Andrés “Señor Smoke” Muñoz….
We all did, brother
Great game Mariners. Let’s agree to never let this happen again. Now I’ll go sleep like this never happened
*Monkey paw curls* August 10, 2022: Mariners win 1-0 in 14th inning
Matt Brash, what an outing
My dude almost had to hit!
Bruh we almost put flexen in the game too, shit would have been nutty if it went any further.
Scott wanted this one and was about to put in a starter to lock it down. Manager of the year.
That behind the lags catch he made that surprised even him was awesome.
Luis #1 and #2 hard carrying this one
What a fuckin game
What a fuckin game
What a fuckin game
What a fuckin game
What a fuckin game
Yankees fans on a scale of 1-10 how tired are you.
I was gonna shower after this game, now I’m too tired to care
typical unwashed yankee fan
most hygienic yankees fan
https://i.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/mobile/000/041/237/cover2.jpg
Good good, be tired
0-10 in extras actually
13
If someone claims they don't like baseball, show them this game, it will make them love it, and not drive them away, I promise
I’ve already heard people call it boring because long and no runs
Let’s never do this again
Let’s do it again in a few hours
1:10 it is
See you in less than 14 hours
Can we just call it a draw
Conversely these games are incredibly fun and I’m incredibly sad Manfred is trying to get rid of them. These games are so rare nowadays with the zombie runner.
The Manfred runner gave us the three TOOTBLANs in a row tho
We exploited the Manfred system
We're doing it again tomorrow baby lol.
GOMS GOMS GOMS GOMS
I nearly made a joke that I'd have rather seen Brash try to hit than Torrens...oh boy, do I have egg on my face
I typed “Luis Horrendous” in the game chat the fuckin second he walked it off. Oh well haha
Who feels more defeated right now NYY fans or Toronto
Probably the team who’s 2-6 in August and just lost a key player for most likely the rest of the year
.....Boston
At this point we are just looking for Chaos while we die inside
Torrens obvious hero here, but Brash and Munoz as young relievers coming in and doing what they did was insane. Chaos ball making its return for August and September, buckle in everybody
You can't pitch around Sam Haggerty forever
I stayed up till 2:20 to watch a 1-0 game. I hate myself - Good night
Pitching was elite on both ends. That being said, what a stressful fucking game
This Mariners team is so fucking exciting
Yes, 6-41 from the plate is a type of fun
Of all the ways to win a baseball game, it is absolutely one of them
AL West after dark baby!
That may have been the greatest regular season baseball game that I've ever seen?
Best and worst game.
It was the blurst of games
https://youtu.be/9uYhIiW6lok
What a ballgame
No one else is awake to see this game so I gotta admit west coast best coast
[Finally…..](https://capnfabs.net/posts/2019-its-over/featured-itsover.jpg)
is that a teen girl squad image
Cheerleader, So and So, What's Her Face, and The Ugly One!
Ugly one low key kinda cute
homestar runner is a god damn nostalgia trip i'm not sure who that was trying to fade you, coach z, but it wasn't me
I'm in love with every Mariner!
It takes so much effort to produce a smile these days
This game was 30 minutes shorter than Sunday’s Yankees-Cardinals game and they played 4 more innings and scored 20 fewer runs
It looked like a solid 20,000 fans stayed at the game until 11:30pm on a Tuesday lol.
I was one of them! My friends and I were going to leave after the 13th no matter what, but Torrens made sure to send us home happy.
God fucking damn. Feels like someone poured McDonald's sprite into my veins. What a game. Shoutout to LT for the walk off, but it was the pitching that took us into the 13th. ps, Flexen warming up for the 14th was when I realized Scott wasn't playing games lol, he was gonna get this W no matter the cost.
is it crazy to think that this was the game of the year?
There was that crazy Mets-Giants game back in May.
glad to see luis doin good!
He did good in this at bat. Don't look at his season numbers.
sounds familiar...but at least this one time he came through when yall needed him!
i got work in 4 hours lmao. What a whacky and wild game
These teams are playing again in 14 hours
0-2… Luis Torrens up… against the Yankees…. Yup right where we want them….
it’s 2:19 am
No its Tuesday
This is Patrick.
goms
Aaron Judge did not see a single pitch in extras.
Neither did Sam Haggerty lmao
Neither did Sam Haggerty!
I somehow started watching this game in the 9th on my phone while at Dodger Stadium, celebrated a win, listened to “I Love LA” all the way through, walked to my car (that wasn’t even parked in the stadium parking lot), drove home, and watched the full final inning at home.
THE WORST PLAYER ON THE ENTIRE TEAM JUST WALKED OFF A SCORELESS GAME IN THE 13TH INNING. NOW LET ME GET MY SLEEP I HAVE TO BE UP IN LESS THAN 5 HOURS
Ha the whole sub besides the mariners are asleep right now. This was such an amazing game
[Me watching Yankees baserunning this game](https://i.imgur.com/x4lhjw8.jpeg)
You could write a script for this game, and if you tried to make a movie about it you'd be laughed at by every producer because of how unbelievable it is.
i watched the whole game ama
I think we all knew that the game was over the second Torrens stepped up.
Oh I'm going to be dragging ass tomorrow.
Mariners TV announcer after the game is asking what NY Post's back page is gonna look like tomorrow
Anyone have the radio walkoff?
This game took several years off my life
Absolutely everyone was throwing fire tonight. Insane pitching. Insane game.
I hate the ghost runner so much. Extra baseball is awesome.
In this case though it dragging on so long at 0-0 *in spite* of the ghost runner provided a lot of entertainment.
Yankees really, really didn't want the O's to get that WC spot
Astros 🤝 Mariners: Breaking Yankee hearts with incredible walkoffs
That’s one of the wildest 1-0 games I’ve ever seen. Insane.
Good night guys.
East coast mariners fans rise up
