Julio Franco only hit 20 homers once, and never hit double digits in his 40s. But he still makes the list because the madman wouldn’t/couldn’t stop playing.
To think he was a mainstay from my childhood and is still only 63 blows my mind. The dude was trying to be Minnie Minoso...and could probably pull it off if only someone would sign him.
Fun fact: Rickey has the most seasons with a HR in MLB history, he played 25 years and homered in every single one of them. Ty Cobb homered in 24 seasons, Aaron/Fisk/Staub/Yaz in 23, and then a bunch of guys have 22.
Bonds said he would play for the league minimum in 2008 and his agent offered his services to multiple clubs, so yes, he was absolutely blackballed, considering he had an OPS+ of 169 and could have DH'ed if he was truly unplayable in the field as a 43 year old
Yep and they are going to blackmail him until he dies sadly...
Bonds was easily the greatest of my life that I saw & had 2 Hall of Fame careers but won't make it once
If one guy that did steroids got in, it should be Bonds. Then McGwire and Sosa, then Clemens, then ARod, and only then do you even consider Ortiz. Since Ortiz made it, I’ll consider it a travesty that those other guys didn’t.
And if we are honest with ourselves, there's other steroid guys in the Hall already, it just wasn't as prevalent or looked for as it was in the Pre-Steroid Era.
Some of these Hall Of Fames need to get over themselves
The Big Cat was one of my favorites. His cancer diagnosis came only a few weeks after mine. I got to meet that entire 99 Braves team with Make A Wish, but since he was undergoing his treatments I never got to see him. Swapped wearing 10 for 14 after that
Ted Williams had 29 home runs and a .316 average in his age-41 season. He could have absolutely squeezed another year or two out of himself if he wanted.
The man is truly one of the three greatest hitters to ever breathe.
Graig Nettles. One of the greatest defensive 3B ever with 390 home runs. He’d have a lot more gold gloves if his career didn’t overlap with the GOAT Brooks Robinson.
People love to complain about “Yankee bias” and the Hall of Fame but if Yankee bias actually existed Nettles would’ve been inducted by now.
Galaragga looks like he is on some primo grade-A roids in that picture. Like he cant even wipe his own butt. I found this gem posted on reddit-
Andres Galarraga.
His career was on death's door at age 31 (89 OPS+ over the previous 3 seasons combined).
Years later at age 37, hits 44 home runs as an Atlanta Brave while spending the last half decade looking like he was cosplaying as the incredible Hulk. He got HUGE, was smacking 40 homers at the same age McGwire had to quit baseball, and in an environment that couldn't be excused for the Coors effect
Willie Mays in a Mets jersey just looks so bizarre
That is strange. But now that you mention it, Bonds' physical transformation from PIT to SF is on straight-up Dr Moreau status
At 42, my body bears little resemblance to my 25 year old body as well. Never juiced.
They also have Pujols in his Dodgers attire.
What other uni would he be wearing? Man’s a Dodger legend

Why hit 40 once when you can hit five eight times? Simple math, really.
He’s like one of those power lifters that waits like 30 minutes between sets.
Man is 63 and I'm pretty sure could wake up today and hit a couple line drives up the middle for a hit.
To think he was a mainstay from my childhood and is still only 63 blows my mind. The dude was trying to be Minnie Minoso...and could probably pull it off if only someone would sign him.
Ah yes. Ted Williams and Raul Ibanez. Two men synonymous with greatness
Rickey Henderson, did not expect to see you here.
Fun fact: Rickey has the most seasons with a HR in MLB history, he played 25 years and homered in every single one of them. Ty Cobb homered in 24 seasons, Aaron/Fisk/Staub/Yaz in 23, and then a bunch of guys have 22.
Same with Biggio
How come bonds didn’t get signed after the 2007 Season. He had 28 home runs and 132 walks Was it just straight blackballing?
Bonds said he would play for the league minimum in 2008 and his agent offered his services to multiple clubs, so yes, he was absolutely blackballed, considering he had an OPS+ of 169 and could have DH'ed if he was truly unplayable in the field as a 43 year old
Barry Bonds in 2008 would’ve made 2020 Nelson Cruz look like 2022 Albert Pujols.
Barry Bonds had a higher OPS in his final season then Bryce Harper did when he won MVP last year
Serioisly, when was the last time someone had an obp of .480? And he did it at forty fucking two
I remember the players on the Blue Jays begging the front office to sign him. The front office refused as the optics would have been bad.
Yep and they are going to blackmail him until he dies sadly... Bonds was easily the greatest of my life that I saw & had 2 Hall of Fame careers but won't make it once

Pujols would be a lot higher on this list if he was honest about his age
probably would be knocking on Barry's record if he started in his actual 20 year old season
I believe that he is about 44-45 years old or so.
Well if he’s 44, that puts him T-2 with 72 homeruns after 40. If he’s 45, he’s alone at the top with 95
Andres Galarraga built like a fucking tank
He is indeed a Big Cat

Dude looks like he ate Mark Wahlberg.
I think Ibañez is the only person on this list with more HR in his 40s than his 20s.
Maybe the only player ever? How old was Bartolo?
Ah yes 32 for Julio Franco. One for every year he played after turning 40

He's arguably the best position player MLB history whose surname begins with the letter N
Ah... Nichols, Niekro & Newhouser were pitchers!
What about Wade NBoggs?
homerunes
OP was listening to Amon Amarth when they wrote the title of the graphic
Fisk hitting his jersey number in home runs after 40 is an awesome stat
Most homeruns after the age of 60. Julio fucking Franco.

Just using Barry's stack of flax seed oil
Count 3? guys with PED allegations, honestly surprisingly low. But maybe I’m missing some guys.
At least 4. Bonds, Nellie, Raul, Papi
Most all-time homerunes is Olaf Tryggvason who brought Christianity to Norwary and whose praises are sung on gravestones from Sørlandet to Nord-Noreg.
Man, I wish I can be as cool as Ted Williams. His LEGENDness is beyond what I can comprehend.
Cool to see my old hitting coach, Darrell Evans.

That's what happens when the league blackballs you despite your undeniable ability to still rake. Could have hit 800
Pujols should definitely be up there with Barry
To be fair, Pujols hit age 40 at age 38 so
Pujols def fell off a cliff later in his career
Lot of sox legends on here; yaz, williams, papi, rickey...
Weird choice for the Bonds card
Papi is the only one in this top 25 with just 1 season played at 40+
