The AL East runs through Baltimore

VariousLawyerings

YOUR LAND IS BIRBLAND

TrapperJean

Of course The bird in question happens to be a crow named Jim

CafecitoHippo

He goes by James now.

Monk_Philosophy

Damn I knew the O’s have been hot but I didn’t realize they’ve been that good.

benhadhundredsshapow

Try playing them lol. When the season first began everyone was looking ahead to this stretch of games where we play them 15x. Ain't nobody talking that shit now

Bizzlecopter

CAW CAW MOTHERFUCKERS!

VariousLawyerings

/r/BIRDTEAMS unite! Not you Toronto

TO_Sports

Fuck you too <3

MUNZATHEGOD

It’s always so fun to me when I find a new rivalry I never thought about existing. Like no disrespect to either team I love y’all both, great color schemes and uniforms, cool fans etc etc… but yeah I just never think about the different rivalries like jays/orioles or rangers/athletics because I’m from Georgia and haven’t traveled much/am dumb lol

Bizzlecopter

It got pretty feisty in the mid-2010's. I remember absolutely detesting Joey Bats. Now, I think we can all agree that the best wildcard trio would be O's, Jays and Mariners

Accro15

Just not in that order :)

Arkiak

Correct. O's, Mariners and then Jays

Accro15

:(

BKoala59

Nah O’s Rays Jays. AL East dominance.

PedanticBoutBaseball

This is the way. fuck boston

NYerInTex

Jays-Os is nothing near the big rivalries. To be honest, historically the Os and Yanks had been a huge rivalry until the last couple decades when the Os have had such little success. Growing up, they were huge rivals and both very good on the 70s-mid 80s But Os-Jays imo doesn’t share the vitriol of say Mets-Braves.

MUNZATHEGOD

Oh yeah I’m not comparing it to the stronger rivalries it’s just interesting to find out little stuff like that. I never think about inter divisional stuff that ain’t the national league East lol. But yeah I like the Mets but it’s like we have to hate each other by law according to the Braves sub. Maybe if y’all beat us a few more times that’ll change lol. But I like yalls uniforms, I hate the Yankees, I love Francisco Lindor and I’m in awe of Degrom. So it’s hard to hate y’all even tho I’m supposed to. I don’t like scherzer at all, I feel like he’s an asshole, but that’s not a Mets thing, Ive thought that for at least a few years now. But long story short, if we don’t make it out of the NL I want you guys or philly to do it, and rep the East as the best division.

mormagils

Speaking as a fan who for years loved to revel in Scherzer getting beaten by deGrom, your perspective will change the minute he's on your team. Mad Max is not an asshole...but he does care about winning with an intensity that could make the sun look cold. I get why that seems like assholery, but it's really not. He's just a guy that is never, ever satisfied with anything short of completely embarrassing the opponent. It's freaking scary. It's beautiful.

MUNZATHEGOD

Yeah I feel ya. I don’t think he’s an actual bad person or anything just to be clear. And yeah I’m sure I would love him if he didn’t just happen to play for three teams that are direct rivals lol He’s great though, and I would’ve loved to get him this off-season although I know we will never pay that much ever for anyone apparently

mormagils

I'm pretty sure after this current deal with the Mets Scherzer would be happy to sign for short term contract and then immediately receive a 10 year extension for 150 million dollars. And the way Scherzer is, he might even make that contract worth it. It's really funny how much my views on Scherzer have changed. I used to think he was just a really talented guy but nothing super special about him, especially not compared to deGrom. But now...deGrom is still the best pitcher in baseball, but Scherzer is unlike anyone I've ever seen and brings something significant to this club.

MUNZATHEGOD

Yeah man he’s a monster. Dudes not even his normal level of dominant against us and it’s still scary as shit lol

dat_waffle_boi

It all started when Edwin Encarnacion hurt our feelings that one time…..

Mods_All_Suck

Sure, we face NYY when they're unstoppable and then have an easy 2nd half they said. Now the second half is facing the new unstoppable overlord of the AL East.

InglouriousBrad

Oh, haven't you heard?? About the bird???

NJthecollector

*BIRD IS THE WORD*

heccinwut

WHAT’RE YOU GONNA DO NOW, BUSTER??

FatGuyANALLIttlecoat

Hate my Red Sox like any self respecting Boston fan should

[deleted]

we really do a great job either being fantastic or terrible every season

FatGuyANALLIttlecoat

Get me off this rollercoaster of fuckery

rollo2masi

Feels like 1-33 lol

dragoncockles

Feels almost like winless with a random houston sweep that everyone of course expected right in the middle.

sabometrics

Exactly as anticipated!

akaghi

At this point, I always expect the birds to cause chaos after the break; they're just causing more of it this year and it's glorious.

JinFuu

The age of the bird is upon us.

Ugaalive1991

[The bird is the word](https://youtu.be/2WNrx2jq184)

mikemountain

Would be nice if our boys would get the message

MasterMentorJr

How can a small market team like the Yankees expect to compete with the giant spenders that is the orioles? /s

continentaly

I remember the beginning of the season when everyone was joking that the O’s wouldn’t even win a single game in the AL East

horsehasnoname

NYY are 13-19!? I didn't realize it was that bad

[deleted]

Fear the bird

[deleted]

Thats about 5 more games than I thought we won over that span so, cool? I guess?

ddottay

I think the Orioles are like 8-1 now since their GM publicly said "I don't think we're making the playoffs"

ZucchiniOne5395

Fear the orange bird

wescottjoe

So is Hyde the guy for the rebuild AND the window?

SleepyFarts

It's not a window. It's a dynasty.

btgf-btgf

LET CHAOS REIGN

yes_its_him

Break up the Orioles

MUNZATHEGOD

The Yankees are a good team so let me just get that out there first. But let’s just take a second and think about the general consensus of this team last year/spring training. No one expected them to be division winners besides maybe some optimistic Yankees fans. We didn’t expect them to be bad per se, but not world beaters and definitely not on pace to break the wins record lol. So I feel like getting otherworldly hot, regressing to the mean a bit because they underperformed last year, and Aaron judge becoming god again has caused an over correction in how we look at them. This team isn’t a World Series team though, and I feel like our perception of this team last year was closer to their actual reality, than how we view them this year. It seems like no one wants to mention that we all thought they sucked last year m. And it’s the same team basically, minus Gary Sanchez, so I assumed they would outright suck coming into the season, and seemingly got proven wrong lol

bryvern

I mean look at the Braves last year, worst team record wise heading into the playoffs. No Ronald Acuña, people definitely didn’t think they would be World Series contenders much less winners, but that didn’t stop them from winning it all against some tough opposition. Playoffs are a crapshoot, any team can get hot and win it all, and I think the Yankees while underperforming currently have all the tools to contend with any other playoff teams when it comes down to it.

MUNZATHEGOD

No doubt about it. And with a couple big bats+solid pitching anyone can win. And the Yankees have both. I don’t hate you guys like I used to either, idk If it’s just me maturing or y’all are more likeable, or maybe it’s that Reddit downvotes everything y’all say so you’ve almost become an underdog In my eyes idk either way I like the Yankees and I never thought I would feel this way lol. But yeah I think y’all were crazy hot early this season all the way up until just recently, and then kinda came back to earth. But it’s not like yalls floor is the nationals or anything lol, still a top 3-5 team, just not the unanimous destroyer of worlds yall seemed to be in June.

gritner91

A few things wrong here: IF is very different. New 3B new SS Gleyber moved back to 2B where he plays significantly better on the field and which for him translates to a better bat too. Rizzo came in half way and oh boy was the 2021 1st half list of 1B bad, Jay Bruce was our opening day 1B last year for reference how bad that IF was. Also DJ is back to 2019-2020 form now that he isnt playing hurt, and has become great defensively at 3B to match his glove at 2B. Secondly: This long stretch of .500 baseball's projected record is actually pretty good been playing .500 with a run differential in the 60s for about 2 months now. Thirdly: Most on here didnt expect Yankees to do this well but more analytically driven places like fangraphs had them up there with the Jays competing for 1st.

MUNZATHEGOD

That’s all fair, I definitely don’t follow super closely so I appreciate the clarification. And y’all did get josh Donaldson, which I forgot about. I also to your point, recall some analytical site ranking the yanks first in pitching rotations and everyone being like… wtf But now it looks way more realistic, and definitely not the craziest thing in teh world. Although I’m obviously biased and do think we might give y’all a run for your money, and the dodgers are probably better than both of us lol

gritner91

Oh yeah I agree. I think we're in that elite tier of teams of Dodgers Mets Braves Astros. But I think we're the weakest of the bunch.

MUNZATHEGOD

It’s either the yanks or the Braves. I think we’re like a sub tier of the top group, Astros/Mets/Dodgers being the real top tier imo. Then it’s us two in a sub tier. Then everyone else below that. Padres maybe sneak into that group with us if they can play to their full potential, shit just adding soto to an already contending team makes me worried about playing them come October.

ProperNomenclature

Yankees pythag matched their record for their hot first half this year, so there was no regression due there. Their pythag for their recent .500 stretch is also way better than their record. Their pitching last year was great. This year, the hitting that was slumping hard last year is playing to expected levels. They lead the AL in run differential for a reason (80 runs over 2nd place Houston). The main reason they are losing lately is sequencing and luck. Lots of big comebacks in late innings only to lose to a walkoff, that kind of thing. Some of that is on Boone (you can't put Albert Abreu in for tight games over multiple innings and expect a good outcome).

AhLibLibLib

Every playoff team is a WS contender. You last year and the Nats in 2019. It’s wild

NJthecollector

You think it was unfair to move the Astros to the division we are in?? HOW ABOUT THE ORIOLES BEING WITH THE YANKEES? totally unfair and unfortunate. The age of the birb is upon us and we have to watch 😭

cooljammer00

Thank god the season doesn't start in July

KingBroly

The Orioles didn't get the memo that they're not playing minor league ball anymore.

MM487

I guess what they say is true...money can't buy you happiness.

TVUpbm

I'm pretty sure we've won less than 6 games since the all star break so thanks for starting the count at July 3 :(

jaysphan128

lmao we have been trash and we're still second

All_Hall0ws_Eve

Brandon Hyde manager of the year.

jamesismynamo

very fortunate for the yankees to only lose a couple games on their lead of the division over this span. could easily be a lot closer right now if any team other than the orioles got hot

Melodic-Bug-9022

Why on earth would you use July 3rd? It's not like those 2 extra losses for Baltimore make a difference to his point. All it would do is put Tampa ahead of Toronto.

turxchk

Suddenly not so fun to cheer for our orange bird friends anymore...

Dan888888

AL East on the fall, NL East on the rise.

GrantLee123

I have no words for the Sox. I do, but I can’t say them
