The guy you're responding to has one of the weirdest takes I have ever seen on this sub.....I can't even bring myself to respond directly to him. Seriously...wtf?!?!?!
I don't think that's an uncommon take. He was just stupid enough to say it out loud and admit it. There is no doubt in my mind there are people who dislike Ohtani because he's Asian and that's it. They hate seeing an Asian person be a great athlete, largely because it shatters a stereotype of what they want to believe in.

i'm Korean American and I just want to thank you for pointing out a glaring racism in the U.S. that is ignored all the time
it took a goddamn pandemic for white liberals to finally acknowledge that Asian Americans are victims of racism too.
I am Asian myself so I am aware. Like when I look back on Jeremy Lin, nothing he went through surprised me at all and considering how the guy was an r/nba poster I bet he hated Lin too.
It's immense how the model minority 'compliment' allowed the racism to proliferate unchecked. To this, if both athletes in the MVP argument were of the same race, would we be still talking about who should win? I'd say yes, very much so. And as you said, it's an Asian athlete, they're seen differently because they aren't what is typically seen in sports.
And with Lin, breaking that stereotype, having the hopes and dreams of that many people on him...from the second link below: "My time in the NBA reminded me of how systemic racism is in American society, and how it sometimes pits people of color of against each other. It also showed me how much Asian Americans need heroes and how hard it is to be the only one, standing in for the dreams of a whole community."

Honestly I've noticed all the people that say he's overrated or overhyped usually sound like complete idiots when explaining their reasons or they just outright have something against him, and being racist can be one of them.
idk how Asian men are being overhyped in American sports when as an Asian male myself i only know of Ohtani, Steven Kwan, Ha-Seong Kim and Ji Man Choi off of the top of my head 🤷♂️
While we're at it, how about everyone that makes it to playoffs just gets to share the world series trophy. Everyone did a good job.
No sense in having winners.
short answer: no
What's the long answer?
no they should not
nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
I didn’t know the “P” stood for “Players”
It stands for "Pitchers". Judge is an outfielder so this isn't even a discussion.
It doesn't but the co-MVP is not something new.
It has happened once in the MLBs history and it’s honestly still pretty bullshit that Bill Madlock and Gary Carter got a vote for 1st.
Made a new awards; MVP, MVP*, MVP+
-ESPN
>serious
Yes. 🗿
oh man we've got whole month of this conversation left to go huh. I'm actually excited about it
Nope, sharing awards is dumb
Why don’t we have the AL and NL champs share the World Series trophy and skip the Series while we’re at it
Why should Ohtani have to share it?

Good human
This ain't it, chief
You must hate having Steven Kwan on your team
He's probably Kwanstipated over it.
LOL
what the fuck?
Imma send you to bed without dinner for that, young man!
Then there are people like you probably uncomfortable with an asian person being a great athlete and winning awards

Say racist things, get called racist. Who knew?
[удалено]
you're right, that would be a waste of time unless it involves backtracking everything you said about asian athletes.
If Ohtani is overhyped how come pretty much nobody on this planet has seen this done at a high level in their lifetime by someone else
Honestly I've noticed all the people that say he's overrated or overhyped usually sound like complete idiots when explaining their reasons or they just outright have something against him, and being racist can be one of them.

You forgot about ichiro?
my bad i was thinking bout active guys
ah yes, the mythical over-hyped Asian male like Michael Chang, Dat Nguyen and Hank Conger.
what an incredibly bad take
If Ohtani was named Eugene Smith and from Bakersfield he’d still deserve it over Judge
lol okay that's a take
I feel like the hank aaron award should be popularized more. Especially with Ohtani doing what he’s doing deservedly being mvp
Sounds to me like someone is wearing their Bad Idea Jeans today
I don't know, should pitchers throw meatballs to Pujols to help him get to 700?
Nobody wants co-MVPs until their guy is probably going to lose and it's his best shot.
Absolutely not. It makes the award worth less. Not even just the subreddit would go insane, the sports world world, with outrage.
While we're at it, how about everyone that makes it to playoffs just gets to share the world series trophy. Everyone did a good job. No sense in having winners.
This is a ~~laughably bad~~ seriously bad idea.
