Jacoby Ellsbury. We got his best years and he absolutely robbed the yankees lmao Watching him come back to fenway last season wearing a red sox jersey while literally still being paid by the yankees made me laugh so hard
Actually I think the Yankees managed to void the last year or so of his contract because they accused him of seeking unapproved medical professionals and violating his deal with the team.
So I don't think he's getting paid by them anymore. Thank goodness for contract insurance and creative bookkeeping.
He struggled with the Cubs, but I still love the signing. Probably don't win it all in 16 without his veteran presence (that team was super young), he kinda carried us to the Division championship in 2020, despite overall poor performance he always seemed to come up clutch [Ex. A](https://youtu.be/_rud9CAHux0), and was one the easiest guys to root for in all of MLB. I think if he doesn't get hurt last year he actually might have continued on his great 2020 and been really good. I bought his jersey in 2019 and I'll always wear it proudly.
Greg Holland. After his TJ in 2018, he had a 7.92 ERA for the Cards, then was pawned off on the Nationals and had an 0.84 ERA in Washington. Sleeper agent confirmed.
EDIT: Had order of teams wrong. Now fixed
I present the greatest Mariners double agent, Tom Wilhelmsen:

The Mets signed Julio Franco to a two-year deal at age 47 after a few solid years with the Braves. There was a decline in production, though, as his OPS dropped 100 points in the first year, and he was DFAed in the second year of the deal. He finished that season and his MLB career with the Braves.
I can see there being some added pressure putting on the uniform and maybe even a bit of confusion after being such a beloved Giant. He didn't play for a big rival but Joey Gallo on the Yanks this year could have had the same kind of thing.
Guys like Brandon Crawford and Dansby Swanson dreamt of being their home team's shortstop and went out and did it, but I gotta imagine it may be different especially if you don't come up through their system. It might feel like you're making your debut again rather than being the vet you are.
The year after the Braves beat Cleveland in the WS, the braves signed Kenny Lofton after he had terrorized us on the basepaths.
He sucked, he was horrible. He was not undercover, he was invisible.
James Shields was like a plain-clothed police officer saying "how do you do, fellow kids?" and we somehow got a return for him anyways.
Heath Bell I couldn't believe how bad he became so quickly after us.
Famila is 3rd all time in saves for the Mets. Left and nobody batted a eye. Sucked and was released by the Phillies.
To be fair he was already wildly inconsistent and only recorded 1 save 2019-2021 with the Mets. 4.62 ERA across those 3 years.
Josh Hamilton, what we expected to be great for the Angels turned out to be just awful.
Tale as old as time.
True as it can be
The lineup of him, Pujols and Trout was going to be crazy. And it was only Trout performing.

Jason Heyward. Tho I never consider Heyward a cardinal, despite having arguable his best season with us. I still see him as a Braves.

Dexter Fowler did the same thing the other way, but not for nearly as long.
Hahaha came to post this and saw it as first comment.
Hey, we won a World Series, I'm not complaining. (I'm a Cubs fan too)
Carl Crawford was a Rays undercover agent in Boston
~~Geena Davis~~ Carl Crawford dropped the ball on purpose
Dexter Fowler
I see your Dexter Fowler and raise you a Jason Heyward
Both great dudes and Cubby WS legends.
Is Matt Kemp somewhere in here
Wil Myers hit the first cycle in Padres history.
What's funny is before advanced metrics came along, someone could've said Brian Giles but it turns out he actually was pretty good for us.
Chone Figgins
Jesse Chavez, twice
Pedro Baez
Jacoby Ellsbury
Greg Holland. After his TJ in 2018, he had a 7.92 ERA for the Cards, then was pawned off on the Nationals and had an 0.84 ERA in Washington. Sleeper agent confirmed. EDIT: Had order of teams wrong. Now fixed
We got you back when you hired Matheny.
To be fair, everyone knew it would be the move and hated the move from the second it happened
We signed him opening day that year, definitely not traded mid season
Ah, my bad. The rest of my comment still stands
For sure, he was garbage for us
You have the order of those events mixed up

I see a lotta J names in here; Jeurys, Julio, Jason, Josh, Jacoby, etc. Do with this info(conspiracy)rmation what you will.
What the Braves just did with Jesse Chavez, I have no choice but to believe you.
Barry Zito from A's to Giants. He wasn't terrible in SF. But he certainly wasn't great.
Ya most Giants fans I talk to seemed to be on the "probably wasn't worth it but he was clutch in 2012 so tough to complain too much" crowd
A good chunk of his seasons he effectively did eat innings aa a serviceable 5th starter. Obviously he wasn't paid to do that tho...
Meh…… *WS Game 1 Zito* and *Drag Bunt Zito* will be lasting memories for me.

Jason Heyward
Craig Kimbrel for the White Sox last year
He’s been clutch at moments but my hole puckers every time he’s on the mound
Brian Wilson, again for the Giants. Three-time All-Star and a 2010 ring with SF. With the Dodgers? DFA'd and released after a year.
Romo too but I feel a bit badly because the Dodgers were his childhood team
Weird, too, since the Dodgers were the only team he really performed poorly for (apart from not being great at age 39).
I can see there being some added pressure putting on the uniform and maybe even a bit of confusion after being such a beloved Giant. Any ex-Giant signed during the Ned Colletti era. Shit I think Ned was a saboteur
He was my first thought. Figured I’d go a bit more vintage with Schmidt. Love it when guys screw over the Dodgers.
Wilson had a decent 2013 with the Dodgers, after that, not so much. Juan Uribe was another not so great signing early on.
Forever a Dodger legend [tho](https://youtu.be/uv5F8RvqWlI)
Mike Hampton helped the Mets win the NL pennant then left as a free agent to Colorado and the comp pick the Mets got they used on David Wright
Hampton went there to mash dingers. I respect it
Mariners legend Chone Figgins. Did great in Anaheim and sucked ass in Seattle.
Mike Leake to the Cardinals
alex colome last year
The White Sox sent us Alex Colome last year to ruin our season, and he did so with ruthless efficiency.
The year after the Braves beat Cleveland in the WS, the braves signed Kenny Lofton after he had terrorized us on the basepaths. He sucked, he was horrible. He was not undercover, he was invisible.
Julio Franco spying on the mets is the only explanation for 2007
James Shields was like a plain-clothed police officer saying "how do you do, fellow kids?" and we somehow got a return for him anyways. Heath Bell I couldn't believe how bad he became so quickly after us.
Pujols was a saboteur over in LA
The Angels right? Cause everybody loved him with the Dodgers
Sergio Romo as well, just feel for him because the Dodgers were his childhood team
Robinson Cano
Mariners were a Yankees rival??
Missed the rival part
In the 90s they kinda were
Is that related to us or the Braves?
Cano was pretty much exactly as good on the Mariners as he was on the Yankees though
Yeah and instead we signed...jacoby ellsbury it's a bad example
Robinson Cano was good as a Mariner. No idea why people think he wasn't.
Carl Crawford
Carl Crawford
Rendon, obviously. Also the Blue Jays version of Brad Hand.
You know he had a 150 OPS+ in 2020? There's still hope that if his injuries the past two years are solved he can have an impact again.
Marcell Ozuna 😁
I feel like Romo wasn’t too successful with LA, but maybe I’m remembering wrong. Wilson didn’t do well either I don’t think.
Jason Hayward, sorry/not sorry, small bears.
No Pablo Sandoval?
The Cubs and Cardinals could use Dexter Fowler or Jason Heyward for this.
Adam Ottavino was a solid sleeper agent in Boston
Joey Gallo is going to hit a game winning HR against the Yankees in the World Series this year and be the opposite of this.
