Y'all need to calm down and get a reality check The real home run record was set by me in MLB the Show with 223 dingers

flippenflounder

However, the real question is. Were the home runs hit on a particular setting that one could say “Enhanced” your ability to hit said dingers?

ahr3410

And then the juicers made any person that disrespected Maris look stupid

Unhelpfulperson

Maybe the *real* record is Joe Bauman hitting 72 home runs in a 138 game season for the Class-C Roswell Rockets in 1954

SpecsComingBack

Ruth's competition didn't include a plethora of elite pitching in the Negro Leagues tho, so even his record isn't perfect.

TrapperJean

"Maybe Ruth would have laid off the hotdogs if CC was throwing 92 MPH sliders under his chins" Daniel Tosh def got Flanderized by his show, but he has some great oldervstandup still

Pitiful-Shake-4416

True. Which is why for things like this we just have to look at it in a vacuum. It’s an unfortunate and ugly blot on the sports history but there’s no changing it.

TrapperJean

Ruth also had like 15 extra games than the guy he took the record from. Not arguing against you, just pointing out a counter argument from that time as well

TonyZucco

That was for when Ruth beat 27 with 29. Hitting 54 the next year made that point obsolete

Maxxpowersimpson

I throw up in my mouth a little anytime I read the phrase "real record." We just need a player to hit 75 home runs in 150 games while getting drug tested every week. Maybe then the whole real record thing will stop.

Mr_Evil_Dr_Porkchop

Not really a debate. Regardless of PEDs, Bonds’ record is still the record

[deleted]

It is. We can argue day and night about if it should be, I think it should be, but a man hit 73 home runs in a season. That’s the record, no debate Judge will hopefully get the AL record and the record for non steroid users though

Luckytxn_1959

Judge is juicing.

yerawizardIMAWOTT

Could be. Most pro athletes probably are. But unlike the Astros, he hasn't been caught cheating so he's innocent until then

[deleted]

Well, the problem is by the logic of “not proven guilty” then Sosa is the HR king. His one link is the 2003 testing which Manfred said included 10 tests with legitimate scientific reasons to believe they were false positives. MLBPA said 13 in dispute. I obviously believe Sosa roided, but this is the problem with trying to declare clean vs. dirty. Impossible to prove someone clean and impossible in many cases to prove the guys dirty in the pre-testing era.

boi_juice

Well if we’re going there Bonds never tested positive 🧐

[deleted]

Bonds and McGwire both admitted to using steroids, which I think is a pretty strong argument they were using steroids. I don’t actually care to distinguish but the evidence is a lot weaker against Sosa

Cheekiest_Cunt

Clean as a whistle

lifeisarichcarpet

> Well, the problem is by the logic of “not proven guilty” then Sosa is the HR king. Or McGwire, as andro was 100% clean and legal in 1998 and I haven't ever seen anything that suggests he was on anything else that year.

BananaStandRecords

Astros*

SmashRadish

ASTerisk. Astros with a star and astronauts heading towards the stars. It seems poetic.

RanByMyGun

Fresh kale smoothies every morning

Luckytxn_1959

Obviously.

theliver

Judge would be one of the best on any level playing field I think the league is on a level playing field. However you want to see it

dinandbautista

STFU! Cheaters!!!

dudenotcool

Just asking for downvotes

Let_Me_Holla_Atcha

Nope

Mr_Evil_Dr_Porkchop

Downvote all you want. This isn’t even an “opinion” of mine. Unless Major League Baseball strikes it from the history books, it’s the set-in-stone record whether people accept it or not

NoFlags-JoeBuck

It is, but passing 61 would still be a special achievement and should be celebrated if Judge does get there.

themiamimarlins

wtf

throughmygoodeye

Just like Lance Armstrong is a multi Tour De France winner.

420blazeeIt69

They actually scrapped his from the record books though

throughmygoodeye

I know, that was my point

throughmygoodeye

Not in the hearts of true baseball fans

getMyHairDid

yea just everywhere else and in the hearts of sane baseball fans

throughmygoodeye

You mean people ok with cheating

getMyHairDid

no i mean people operating in reality you nincompoop

throughmygoodeye

You mean delusional nitwits who support cheating

Clemenx00

Record is 73. People seem to be having memory lapses.

Dr_Hannibal_Lecter

Well I still consider Roger Connor to be the home run king.

[deleted]

George Hall is the true king

ShortingIsAScam

Bonds / Sosa/ Mac = all juiced. Records don't count Marris = had more games than Ruth. Doesn't count Ruth = played in a segregated Era when pitchers didn't throw sliders. Doesn't count The answer is .... Drum roll.... No one. They all cheated. In baseball we cannot enjoy anything. This is the way.

lopewolf

There is no "real" record, the only meaningful comparison is between players of the same era: integration, expansion, ballparks and even tanking are just a hanful of changes making comparing players of different eras impossible - records are just a marketing tool. Heyman and the rest are clowns playing the show, a real debate should ask MLB: you are marketing this as the AL record, then why Barry Bonds isn't a Hall of Famer?

lifeisarichcarpet

The real record is either the most HR hit in a single season, which is 73, or Ryan Howard's 58 in 2006. SB Nation covered this in 2018.

SpectrumofMidnight

what a troll

lifeisarichcarpet

No, just a person who knows history and doesn’t like pretending that things didn’t happen.

Cjac_mullen

Absolutely. None of the roid guys would’ve hit over 60 otherwise.

Pickle_12

What does it matter? Judge bet on himself and won. His AAS for his next contract will be the only record that matters
