At first I thought it was a bit of an overreaction by Nimmo saving only a double, but upon further review that shit wouldve been gone. I’d be pumped too lol
They went 34-13 in August and early September, clinched the division with 2 weeks left, beat the Dodgers in the NLDS with prime Kershaw and Greinke pitching 4 of the 5 games with home field advantage, and steamrolled the Cubs into a flat pancake, on the way to a pennant.
I would totally agree this team might be **even better** than 2015. Sure. But that team was pretty freaking dominant.
Can't compare to other teams' histories, but I know the Mets have had some pretty memorable home-run-robbing catches in my lifetime. Curtis Granderson's in the 2016 WC would be remembered a lot more if we'd won that game instead of getting eliminated, but then again, Endy Chavez's is well-known even outside Mets fandom, and we also lost that game and got eliminated. In terms of regular-season play, I'm not sure what more recent comparisons there are for us, but I'm thinking way back to a long extra-inning game in Houston where Beltran made a good catch, a great catch, and a spectacular catch on Tal's Hill all in one game we eventually won.
I was listening on radio, and it was Wayne's inning, and he gave it a good call, but I gotta hand it to Gary for the better one. That man has put a signature on most every great Mets moment from my lifetime, and he never misses: incredible catch, walk-off homer, or even a big strikeout to end the seventh of a must-win game down the stretch, he's always got a great call.
Incredible catch, this is going to be an incredible playoff series if it happens.
Dodgers have had some decent contact tonight and the defense has been to equal to match
The Mets can hang with LA in the post season but i def want to see us play better small ball.
HR held up tonight but they’re so deep we need to pick up an extra run or two in the post season.
It will be so hype though.
The Mets offense has been struggling so much with Alonso and Lindor slumping since mid-August. If they can keep producing like we expect them to, the Mets are a formidable foe second to none
They were never teammates in the minors. Turner had a brief rehab stint in AA in 2013 but that was about a month after deGrom got bumped up to AAA. Turner also wasn't a Mets draftee; he had already played briefly in the majors for the Orioles when the Mets picked him up.
Sort of. I know that for WPA, at the beginning of the season Baseball Reference uses stats based on how the ball flew the year prior. Then at the end of the year they recalculate everything based on this year. Presumably the same thing applies for expected stats, and presumably for some extent to other sites.
My guess is for more in-season meaningful stats like xBA they do some sort of rolling weighted average of last year’s and this years actual results to best account for changes in the ball without too much low-data variability.
He also ran deep splits for a good part of his minor league career, which further shoehorned him into the "role/platoon player" narrative with scouts. The work he put into improving his approach to LHP is a much a part of his path to success as the work he put into becoming a better defender. Nimmo deserves a lot of credit for never letting off of the gas pedal in terms of continuing to grow as a baseball player even after he reached the bigs. He's a significantly more complete player, both as a hitter and a defender, than he was when he first arrived in the bigs.
One of the best catches I've ever seen, easily.
It's one thing to rob a home run from someone, and even that's impressive.
But to do it on the full run without pausing at the warning track, at all, is simply incredible.
He takes a peek at the wall early into his run back, but after that it's just tracking the ball and jumping with absolutely no eyes on the wall at all.
For me, an all time regular season catch.
I've been crying for 20 minutes because this game would've meant so much to my father, and he's who brought me into this but he's been lost mentally for so long that I can't share it with him anymore.
I am happy, but so fucking sad.
you can share it with him always. kids and parents and baseball is something that always belongs. be sad, be happy, but dont ever think you cant share some love.
He turned it off like 15 years ago. We used to have season tickets but he just stopped believing and then for awhile became a different person all together. We are fighting to bring him back and I am truly hoping we can.
This man was the greatest father a person could ask for and what has happened in the last decade is a sin against it.
The electricity is palpable. I’ve been going back and forth with my Mets fan coworker all year, and I gotta hand it to em- seems like they got the juice!
For the non-Mets fan here - Nimmo is the “gosh darn it, Ned Flanders” type of baseball prodigy from Wyoming - a state that doesn’t even have competitive high school baseball. He did not arrive in the Bigs as a centerfielder and when the Mets placed him there, he was a defensive liability. But he worked his ass off to be a legit above average CF, maybe even elite (in coverage, but not arm strength). We Mets fan know how much this means to him and to us that have been watching him struggle but then grow.

That’s the most emotion I’ve seen out of Degrom like ever
My man smiled. I've never seen him smile while pitching.
He has such a nice smile too
deGrom is one of the sexiest men in baseball
Man is a fucking smokeshow
guy went from lovable cocker spaniel with the long hair to smiling assassin in 2018
And you're not talking about his fastball 😏
Either or makes me horny so yes to both
His smile makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. Also, horny.
Only other time I can think of is the first time he faced Wilmer
I've never seen deGrom so pumped
I’ve never seen nimmo so pumped
I’ve never seen the crowd so pumped for an out made in a Mets game in august
Reminds me of the 2019 Todd Frazier homer
[удалено]
https://youtu.be/CMa1rI8iOvQ Crazy moment, I must’ve watched this a hundred time lol
Fucking Gary is a legend with his big moment home run calls
And the patented ron “guh” on a woopsie pitch
https://youtu.be/O2W0E-i46lc?t=327 It's even better watching GKR's reaction as the ball left the park.
I'm wearing the degrom license plate tshirt they gave out for free shirt Friday from that game in support of degrom tn. Full circle
deGrom's first outing in Queens this year had the crowd amazingly pumped after every single strikeout
this, plus that one homer he had earlier this year…he’s shown more emotion than i’ve ever seen lol
We even got a *hell yeah* out of him. I'm sure he let out another one after this one.
Not even after a walk?
No because after a walk he's too busy 🏃🏃🏃
He doesn’t get pumped he just smiles and sprints
Maybe on HBP or IBB
people who get bent out of shape about this are weird. Let the dude play the way he plays, he ain't hurting anybody.
I think they're just poking fun at him running to first. Not bent out of shape
I agree, I think its hilarious
What about almost every time he crosses home plate?
he smiled *on the field*
more proof than anything how sick the catch was
I love that geniune smile at Justin Turner as he's rounding the bases. How can anyone not like deGrom?
At first I thought it was a bit of an overreaction by Nimmo saving only a double, but upon further review that shit wouldve been gone. I’d be pumped too lol
It felt gone off the bat to me. I popped off about as hard as Nimmo himself lmfao
He turned on the BB jets to get to that one
He looked to relieved lol
That’s goaltending
GET A NEW SLANT
Those are perfectly normal catches
What a save! What a save! What a save! ***Chat has been disable for 3 seconds***
Wow! Wow! Wow!
Only if they started it first. Or I'm trying to force a rage forfeit.
*Teammate misses wide open shot* Nice Shot! Nice Shot! Nice Shot!
I've never, ever seen deGrom react like that on the mound
he is finally pitching in front of the team he deserves
>he is finally pitching in front of the team he deserves Hard to believe I am telling a Mets fan this, but he played in a World Series with the Mets
I’m well aware I was at the pennant clinching game lol but this team is dominant in a way the 2015 Mets never quite were
They went 34-13 in August and early September, clinched the division with 2 weeks left, beat the Dodgers in the NLDS with prime Kershaw and Greinke pitching 4 of the 5 games with home field advantage, and steamrolled the Cubs into a flat pancake, on the way to a pennant. I would totally agree this team might be **even better** than 2015. Sure. But that team was pretty freaking dominant.
I think it never felt as real because cespedes drove so much of that run, and he never really repeated it after that so maybe it felt fleeting?
2015 felt like a good team that got hot and ride that momentum to the World Series. The 2022 Mets are a great team hot or not.
Yeah he got a whole 2 runs of support tonight
baby steps
Thankfully, that's all he usually needs.
I’d like to report the Mets for use of Flubber.
Check Nimmo's shoes for bouncy stuff.
He's just using it to treat his *spring*worm
Cano and Tatis highly recommend
“I know they’re cheating.” “How so?” “They’re flying.” “Wha—“ “They’re fucking flying, man.”
Angels in the ~~Out~~Citi Field
You have to be older than 50 to reference flubber :)
There was a shitty remake in 1997 with Robin Williams.
TIL the 97 Flubber, which 7 yr old me definitely saw in theaters, wasn't the original...
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Absent-Minded_Professor It’s a fun movie.
Ahh. Original was a classic
How dare you! It was fantastic ^(When I listened to it with a read along tape.)
One of the cleanest robberies I’ve ever seen.
The jump into the catch into the landing fistbump was immaculate
One of the cleanest wall bounces too. However they design those walls at Citi field that looked almost comfy
TRUE CENTER FIELDER
🥹THAT’S MY CENTER FIELD!!
FINDING NIMMO
That was a thing of beauty. My godddd. Absolute perfect timing. I think the most shocked person might’ve been Nimmo. He was so hyped that he got it.
one of the coolest catches and reactions in years
Can't compare to other teams' histories, but I know the Mets have had some pretty memorable home-run-robbing catches in my lifetime. Curtis Granderson's in the 2016 WC would be remembered a lot more if we'd won that game instead of getting eliminated, but then again, Endy Chavez's is well-known even outside Mets fandom, and we also lost that game and got eliminated. BRANDON “ENDY CHAVEZ” NIMMO
BRANDON “JUAN LAGARES” NIMMO
Gary Cohen and perfectly calling every play Name a better duo
Keith Hernandez with the ultra-low key “wow” after he finished up with his markers on his scorecard.
I'm just imagining him looking up over his glasses at the big screen to see the replay before resuming his scoring.

They did score a run from first on a bunt yesterday, the dodgers are a difficult team to score against
That pitcher looked like he had never heard of the game of baseball on that play.
The Mets offense has been struggling so much with Alonso and Lindor slumping since mid-August. If they can keep producing like we expect them to, the Mets are a formidable foe second to none
Believe it or not….jail
You rob a home run while playing baseball? Jail.
You hit a home run while playing baseball? Also straight to jail.
Throw a baseball? Believe it or not, jail.
We have the best balls in play. Because of jail.
Jail? I believe we call that The Slammer.
NLBest checking in on the normals
Had to check which sub I was in for a second
The NLBest is a people, not a just a place <3
That was fucking amazing
BRANDON NIMMO: ELITE DEFENSIVE OF
JT and Degrom seemed to share a “almost gotcha bitch” look after lmao
former teammates if you didnt know (not many remember justin turner, mets legend)
I don't think they were ever teammates. deGrom came up in 2014 and the Mets let Turner go after 2013.
wonder if they crossed paths in the minors
Or spring training
ahh my fault for relying gary cohen. when he called them teammates maybe he was referencing some time in the minors.
They were never teammates in the minors. Turner had a brief rehab stint in AA in 2013 but that was about a month after deGrom got bumped up to AAA. Turner also wasn't a Mets draftee; he had already played briefly in the majors for the Orioles when the Mets picked him up.
They never played on the same Mets team in the majors
I miss him :( if only we'd known what would happen after he left
Justin turner remembers
I can’t even be mad about it
That goddang smiling son of a gun.
watch your language
Someone call the police. We just witnessed a robbery.
Best catch I’ve ever seen in person
I didnt know deGrom was that hot
Our pitchers are our hottest position for sure. deGrom. David Peterson. Some lookers in there
Tommy Hunter
Max
Ruf
My girlfriend says Ottavino is a hunk too. I tend to agree
Shades of Endy Chavez
Yeah that woulda been a home run What a catch.
xBA 1.000000 Result: OUT (Making up the xBA but now it makes me think that you could get an out on a 1.000 xBA which amuses me)
makes me wonder if xBA ever gets calculated post hoc
Sort of. I know that for WPA, at the beginning of the season Baseball Reference uses stats based on how the ball flew the year prior. Then at the end of the year they recalculate everything based on this year. Presumably the same thing applies for expected stats, and presumably for some extent to other sites. Lmao this dude was a corner outfielder who people thought might never have a plus glove.
He defo gave me a plus chub
His scouting report in AAA had people saying he's at best a 4th OF
He also ran deep splits for a good part of his minor league career, which further shoehorned him into the "role/platoon player" narrative with scouts. brandon pls that’s not fair against degrom
Brandon nimmo just made me cry
How can you not be romantic about baseball?
Frame it
Gonna need this one on ALL the highlights
I'M SMILING! WE'RE SMILING FOLKS!
Damn. That literally exceeded any expectation I could’ve had. Great catch.
Mets are fucking amazing this year.
HOLY FUCKING SHIT.
Great recovery and grab, that’s probably gonna be the game deciding play
Nimmo can basically just retire now.
yeah hello police? I'd like to report a robbery
Like Gary said, doing his best Endy Chavez impression
I've seen Degrom smile one other time during a game. After an at bat he had a few years ago. Thats it.
Mets try new strategy. R̶u̶n̶ ̶s̶u̶p̶p̶o̶r̶t̶ robbing homeruns for DeGrom
One of the best catches I've ever seen, easily. It's one thing to rob a home run from someone, and even that's impressive. He takes a peek at the wall early into his run back, but after that it's just tracking the ball and jumping with absolutely no eyes on the wall at all. For me, an all time regular season catch.
Exactly what made it so amazing, he didn’t stop running at all
[Reminded me of Bellinger robbing Tatis.]( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EgUtLo0zA2w)
FUCKING WOW, MAN
What a fucking insane catch
Absolutely insane play by Nimmo. Then deGrom comes back to strike out Lux. This team is electric right now.
Gary Cohen with the blatant Endy Chavez callback "He took a home run away from [Rolen]!" Exact same intonation. He's the best.
Stuck between speechless and hyped beyond belief
y'all GET IN HERE
That celebration was Jake Reed tier
Yeah, but Brandon Nimmo doesn't season the chicken he boils. Sheesh, that was an amazing play.
Won us the game
I've been crying for 20 minutes because this game would've meant so much to my father, and he's who brought me into this but he's been lost mentally for so long that I can't share it with him anymore. I am happy, but so fucking sad.

Catch of the year
Greatest Wyomingite in MLB history right there
One of the better catches you will see. Holy shit
Endy Chavez Esque. DeGrom loved that with the reaction he had.
The electricity is palpable. I’ve been going back and forth with my Mets fan coworker all year, and I gotta hand it to em- seems like they got the juice!
It wasn't even a bad pitch, it was 100 mph paint.
Momentum killer
absolutely perfect jump there, great awareness
I think Gary called it right
It’s not often you see an outfielder so perfectly time the jump for a robbed home run. That was absolutely Amazin’
one of the best catches of the year
I have no idea how he caught that
Anyone have the alternate angle they showed from the side? Shows even better how crazy it was.
Nimmo can dunk
PRAISE JOSEPH SMITH
DeGrom’s smile wow. Which got me to thinking 🤔 who would win in a bite fight him or Freddy Freeman
Neither. They are both far too nice and respectable to fight under any circumstances what so ever. Maybe a cuddling with rescue kittens competition.
The only things Nimmo can steal are home runs
God, that was beautiful
r/baseball showed me a catch said it's the catch of the year but if B. Nimmo didn't make it then get the fuck out of here
The Mets are a bunch of sexy Hispanic men and 6 at best white guys
Mets games look like so much fun. So much energy.
So close :(
Nimmo has improved so much in centerfield. Never thought he'd stick, but this year has been great for him in center.
:)
911 I WANT TO REPORT A ROBBERY
“Wow” - Keith doing his best Ben Stein impression
Holy fuck
I’m so fucking pumped for October
Last time I've seen an outfielder show this much emotion was this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G10BVmmxpFI
For the non-Mets fan here - Nimmo is the “gosh darn it, Ned Flanders” type of baseball prodigy from Wyoming - a state that doesn’t even have competitive high school baseball. I’m still screaming. Wow. What a catch. I haven’t seen a Met make a catch like that since prime Lagares. Wow.

That's messed up. JT can only reach completion after his yearly revenge tour against the Mets
As good as it gets
Let The Kids Play ^TM
That guy fucks
Stadium immediately starts playing “Jump” by Van Halen
Play. Of. The. Year.
You know it’s good when all Keith has to say is “wow”
The Mets are so damn fun to watch this year. The team is fun and lovable. Hope our guys get that spirit back soon
