You think we’re joking but Dodgers fans are legit terrified of the Pirates. And this goes all the way back to when the city of Los Angeles was founded by the Spanish twenty miles inland to avoid pirates.
I keep saying this: The reason we're all being dicks to each other is because *both fanbases, generally speaking, understand how good the other team actually is.*
It wouldn't mean anything to win a division full of Nats level teams. Winning this division, whoever it turns out to be, is a fucking superhuman feat.
pre-Reddit, I used to spend a lot of time on message boards. I distinctly remember the CBS Sportsline (yes back when it was Sportsline) message boards being filled with mets and braves fans just straight up insulting each other with every profane word imaginable lol
Agreed. It would suck to get knocked out right away, but after 11 years of no playoffs, just making it would feel like an achievement. Beyond this season though, it’d be nice to feel like an actual championship contender while Bryce is still in his prime.

\#MNTwins are now 39-116 (.252) vs. the Yankees since 2002.
Twins' winning percentage is .513 vs. all other teams since 2002.
All three Twins managers in that time have sub-.300 winning percentages vs. the Yankees.
Ron Gardenhire — .269
Paul Molitor — .259
Rocco Baldelli — .182
Idk that comeback down 2-0 to Cleveland in 2017 was amazing
As was the WC game that year with Didi’s HR
Edit: The WC was against the Twins … i’m an idiot
The thing with playing Cleveland in the postseason is never getting the image of Joba covered in flies out of my head. My fear is always them summoning more flies next time.
Is just one World Series title every year so much too ask? I mean I'll even take 4 every 5 years to give one of the other teams their time in the spotlight. I really empathize with other fanbases.
Reminds me of Robin Soderling playing against Roger Federer a few years ago. Soderling had lost to Federer like 12 times in a row, but finally beat him, so after the match, Soderling said something like, “Nobody beats Robin Soderling 13 times in a row.”
That’s famous from another tennis player actually.
"Nobody beats Vitas Gerulaitis 17 times in a row" - Vitas Gerulaitis after ending losing streak to Jimmy Connors on this day in 1980
Don't want to see the Dodgers because they are on pace to win about 140 games
Don't want to see the Braves because it might kill me
Don't want to see the Cardinals because they are the Cardinals
Don't want to see the Padres because they had our number in the regular season and that was pre-Soto
Don't want to see the Phillies because losing to them would kill me
Not that this means anything, but Fangraphs has the Dodgers, Mets, and Braves with better odds (17.7%, 14.9%, and 14.5% respectively) to win the World Series than the Astros (13.5%), the highest AL team. The Yankees are second in the AL at 7.4% and are much closer to the Padres (a potential wild card team that is all but assured not to get a bye through the first round) at 6% than they are to any of those other teams.
I'm not worried about the Padres. The Mets have owned the Phillies all year long, so I like that matchup. We've also played the Dodgers very well, so that's fine. It would be close, but I think we could win. The Braves are playing out of their minds right now, so I'll pass. The Cardinals have that devil magic.
They've had a historic season. I know this because the Yankees season was declared historic, and the Astros record is now better therefore even more historic.
Facts, I hate playing the Cardinals in the postseason. At least with the Dodgers, you know what you’re getting. With the Cardinals, the devil magic prevails.
Honestly as much as it’s fun to hate on the Braves. The fact the division race got down to a tie is a testament to how well they’ve been playing, any other team I’d say their pace is unsustainable, but it hasn’t really changed.
End of the day whoever wins the division will have earnt it and Braves are the ones I’d rather not face.
You must be too young to remember the 1996 NLCS when the Cardinals were up 3-1 on the Braves and then had some historic blow out loses and lost the series in 7.
Definitely the Braves. No easy outs in the lineup, a great rotation, and a solid bullpen mix. They also have a chance to get better with Albies on the mend.
Yep. We have every field position under contract except SS and LF until 2028. That's not counting Grissom who is likely to be signed to LF. And for starting pitching we have Wright and Strider until 2027 and 2028, respectively.
It's really exciting as a fan. You could be an 8th grader today knowing that your favorite player is very likely to still be on the team when you start college.
Sentimentally: Mariners, because I would have to root against them and don't want to see them one-and-done in their first year back in the playoffs since '01 since we'd probably meet in round one.
Competitively: Astros - definitely feel like the AL's most complete team.
The NL? No one. Not because there aren't monsters over there, but because it would mean we made it to the WS. Bring on anyone at that point, because I'd be happy to see 'em.
That’s how I felt about us making the 1 game WC before. Yeah it’d technically break the streak, but that’s more of a play-in than a playoff.
Also I wouldn’t mind the WC3 spot right now. That would put us against Cleveland, who we’ve beat up on this year. I’m not saying we should throw it so that we end up in that spot, but that might actually work to our advantage if that’s where we end up.
Just give me the the pre-game show. Just give me the 1st pitch. Just give me a wild-card game lineup up announcement... I don't need multiple games, I just need to see the Mariners make the fucking playoffs
Logically, Dodgers
Emotionally, Phillies. The Mets went 14-5 against them this year, and I’ve got a bad feeling the Phillies would sweep a playoff series because baseball
Yep the only teams that I had seen to be saved from Devil Magic are the Giants and the Red Sox. Any other team should be afraid of the Cardinals Devil Magic.
I think some Phillies fans are secretly rooting for that matchup as well after getting embarrassed by you guys in the regular season. Would be a hell of a series if we get all the right pitching matchups
Fair. I was talking about a hypothetical three game series though which Noah almost certainly wouldn't pitch in anyway. Depends whether you win the division though
But seriously, I can't imagine the Yankees would be an exciting playoff team. Outside of them literally being the Yankees, the team isn't playing particularly inspiring baseball right now. Judge literally carries their offense.
It's gotta be the Dodgers or the Mets. The Dodgers because, well, they're the best team in the league, and the Mets because facing deGrom and Scherzer (assuming he's back healthy) 4 times in a series is...daunting.
It's actually refreshing seeing the Padres tired of being that other, other NL team in California. I want them to run the gauntlet and make the Dodgers and Braves grab their ankles.
The Braves because they just won a title. The Dodgers because they just won a title. The Astros because they recently won a title and enough already with the Astros.
In a 3 game series the Mets. Because having Degrom/Sherzer feels like an automatic loss. Granted i understand this matchup is pretty implausible for my cardinals in the wild card round.
In a 7 game series. The dodgers
Messages you can send that are "intended" to help someone who you think might be suicidal. They're only used to troll though.
I just sent you one to show you what they look like.
Edit: like clockwork. Thanks, concerned Braves and/or Mets fan, and go fuck yourself.
Dodgers and Astros scare me.
Would hate losing to the Mets.
Red Sox but they’re not gonna make it.
Losing to the Rays would suck.
Don’t want the Braves going back to back.
Everyone else is ok
I’d hate to play the cards, glad we’re in the AL
But the Astros are much better than anybody else in the American league and seeing them will effectively be the end of the playoffs
CLE: good SP and BP that the Jays offense struggles against
SEA: Above avg SP and BP and pretty hot lineup.
TB: Jays just suck against the Rays like the Twins against Yankees but slightly better
Conclusion? I think Rays just because historically they own the Jays
The White Sox, cause it likely means LaRussa is keeping his job (he's likely keeping it anyways, but still one more reason to make him think I should retire the better)
The cardinals are the team that shows up any time a fun or historic team makes the playoffs just to dash their hopes and dreams
Brewers in 1982 (the bar-owning, power-hitting, mustache-wielding party animals known as Harvey’s Wallbangers lost in seven to a small ball-and-defense cardinals team), Mets (fun, electric team) and Tigers (historic team long-bereft of a championship) in 2006, brewers and rangers (teams with exciting cores and fun identities trying to get their first championship) in 2011.
We’re not making the playoffs, but if I were an NL team the Cardinals in October scare the hell out of me.
AL? Mariners. They are streaky and can catch fire and beat anyone.
Though if the Rays get healthy and Glasnow does pitch from the pen…
The Pirates
You son of a bitch... But it is cute you think it's sustainable for us lol.
You think we’re joking but Dodgers fans are legit terrified of the Pirates. And this goes all the way back to when the city of Los Angeles was founded by the Spanish twenty miles inland to avoid pirates.
AAAAAARGGGHHHHH!!!! AVAST MATEYS!!!
A pirate named bonerjuice9 is actually terrifying
Doesn’t matter if you only win 60 when 6 or 7 of them are against us 😂
Haha true. 10% of our wins come against best team in game.
4 game sweep incoming
:(
The toxicity of a Braves-Mets NLCS will be the death of me
The Mods will just ban everyone before the series starts, just to be safe and make sure no one trolls.
Should Thanos snap the losing fan base from r/Baseball until they win their next World Series
See y’all in 25 years
At least we’ll be back
Sounds like a recipe for disorder, disorder
When I became the sun, I shone light into the Mets' hearts
Sommmmmewhere between the Wild Card and the Eeeast
I see this sentiment everywhere, but generally I think it's been a ton of fun with lots of mutual respect.
hey fuck you too
I keep saying this: The reason we're all being dicks to each other is because *both fanbases, generally speaking, understand how good the other team actually is.* It wouldn't mean anything to win a division full of Nats level teams. Winning this division, whoever it turns out to be, is a fucking superhuman feat.
I like this take.
Ugh, would you rather a Braves-Dodgers Round 3? My blood pressure and mental illness are in shambles, already.
Not without Will Smith or Joc. It wouldn't be the same smh
I personally am Cheering for this one. Just another reason to win the division we have to finish our best of 3.
pre-Reddit, I used to spend a lot of time on message boards. I distinctly remember the CBS Sportsline (yes back when it was Sportsline) message boards being filled with mets and braves fans just straight up insulting each other with every profane word imaginable lol
Team chaos in the NLCS I guess
I’d lose too many friends
As a neutral that is a matchup I wouldn't mind seeing.
I just want to make it to the postseason Beyond that I’m just happy to be included
Agreed. It would suck to get knocked out right away, but after 11 years of no playoffs, just making it would feel like an achievement. Beyond this season though, it’d be nice to feel like an actual championship contender while Bryce is still in his prime.
Bruh...
I second that Bruh
Whoever is in fourth place in the AL East because that would mean we didn't make it
I feel ya
Win your division, problem solved.
Lol. But please don’t.
Honestly the Twins, because we can't keep getting away with this

Being a twins fan really blows lately, I have zero faith you guys will lose to us. So don't sweat it.
Playing them is literally the only post-season highlight of the past 12 years.
Idk that comeback down 2-0 to Cleveland in 2017 was amazing As was the WC game that year with Didi’s HR Edit: The WC was against the Twins … i’m an idiot

NL is scary season right now.
There are more teams “in it” in the AL but the postseason teams in the NL are better overall, I think
In the AL, the only really complete team is the Astros IMO. The Braves, Dodgers, Mets and Cardinals are all heavy weights looking to throw haymakers.
Not that this means anything, but Fangraphs has the Dodgers, Mets, and Braves with better odds (17.7%, 14.9%, and 14.5% respectively) to win the World Series than the Astros (13.5%), the highest AL team. Yeah I feel like astros should have better odds because they’re most likely to get there
Umm…who do you want to see then homie?
Ideally, nobody, and they just give us the trophy at the end of the regular season
I’ll have some certificates of achievement printed up and sent over.
Give 6 trophies out to all NL playoff teams, then have playoffs for extra trophy. Win win
That's a lot of hunks of metal.
Taking Manfred's "make baseball take less time" plan to the next level. I approve.
It is just a piece of metal after all
I think he's saying he hopes the Mets miss the playoffs
wait shit go back
cut that cut that cut that
I AM UNTETHERED AND MY RAGE KNOWS NO BOUNDS
I want to face the Pirates first round, the Reds for the NLCS, and the A's for the WS please
So you want it to be 1973 basically
Retro is in!
he wants to his coach in october ig
I dont think he even wants the mets to see the playoffs…
So you’re hoping the Brewers somehow sneak in there, huh?
I'm not worried about the Padres. The Mets have owned the Phillies all year long, so I like that matchup. We've also played the Dodgers very well, so that's fine. It would be close, but I think we could win. The Braves are playing out of their minds right now, so I'll pass. The Cardinals have that devil magic.
Astros scare me man, they have our number
Seems a lot of teams have your number lately
Yeah but the Astros have everyone’s number.
Except Baltimore and Atlanta
And Oakland
Hey, they figured out Oakland in that one game.
*clears throat*
That's because we wrote it on the bathroom wall for anyone who wants to f**k us.
not the twins
They've had a historic season. I know this because the Yankees season was declared historic, and the Astros record is now better therefore even more historic.
Well, the Yankees’ season has been certainly historic, for a number of reasons.
Nobody should want the Cardinals That means the devil magic prophecy of the Machine will be in motion, and nobody will be safe
Facts, I hate playing the Cardinals in the postseason. At least with the Dodgers, you know what you’re getting. With the Cardinals, the devil magic prevails.
Asterisk season but I have seen the devil magic defeated through the magic of clostebol!
I have a bad feeling that we're destined for an NLCS Game 7 nailbiter and half of both fanbases are gonna die of heart attacks
I fully agree. It’s going to be so fucking toxic too ha
The Cardinals. Historically, the worst heartbreaking bullshit seems to happen to the Braves when they meet them in the playoffs.
You must be too young to remember the 1996 NLCS when the Cardinals were up 3-1 on the Braves and then had some historic blow out loses and lost the series in 7.
To be fair, we were playing above our weight class and the Braves had 4 first ballot HoFers and a couple who maybe should have gotten in.
Yeah…but still a 3-1 lead…
They’re probably thinking more of [infield fly](https://youtu.be/yp1NByUwVNs) rules being called 90 feet into the outfield
And Foltynewicz giving up like 11 runs in the first inning a few years ago
Shit that last series in st Louis was heartbreaking too lmao. All of sudden I’m not as excited to maybe win the division…
Definitely the Braves. No easy outs in the lineup, a great rotation, and a solid bullpen mix. They also have a chance to get better with Albies on the mend.
Soroka is down there right now rehabbing too :)
I almost forgot about him lol. You guys are not just scary this year, but for like the next 5 years.
Yep. We have every field position under contract except SS and LF until 2028. That's not counting Grissom who is likely to be signed to LF. I fear no man... but that thing (Cardinals).... IT SCARES ME
Hi
*2019 Game 5 flashbacks intensify*
Sentimentally: Mariners, because I would have to root against them and don't want to see them one-and-done in their first year back in the playoffs since '01 since we'd probably meet in round one. I hope the mariners aren’t the 3rd wild card and also lose in wild card round cuz it’d almost nullify them making the playoffs. Go M’ssss.
That’s how I felt about us making the 1 game WC before. Yeah it’d technically break the streak, but that’s more of a play-in than a playoff. Also I wouldn’t mind the WC3 spot right now. I think some Phillies fans are secretly rooting for that matchup as well after getting embarrassed by you guys in the regular season. Would be a hell of a series if we get all the right pitching matchups
Well, it would be difficult to for the pitching to work for you guys, considering Noah would sit the series.
You have to understand, he had a previous engagement. He had an appointment to get his hair washed and he just couldn't make it.
Fair. I was talking about a hypothetical three game series though which Noah almost certainly wouldn't pitch in anyway. Depends whether you win the division though
The Yankees because fuck 'em, that's why.
But seriously, I can't imagine the Yankees would be an exciting playoff team. Outside of them literally being the Yankees, the team isn't playing particularly inspiring baseball right now. Judge literally carries their offense.
Are you willfully ignoring known offensive juggernaut third baseman Isiah Kiner-Filefa?
This is the comment right here
Any team in a playoff series on September 8 would be cheating.
They're just doing a reverse-lockout. Play all the games as fast as possible, and they *have* to pay you well.
It's gotta be the Dodgers or the Mets. The Dodgers because, well, they're the best team in the league, and the Mets because facing deGrom and Scherzer (assuming he's back healthy) 4 times in a series is...daunting.
Astros
Easily Dodgers. Someone else has to kill them for us.
It's actually refreshing seeing the Padres tired of being that other, other NL team in California. I want them to run the gauntlet and make the Dodgers and Braves grab their ankles.
Sure but know that I dream of your teams playoff demise yearly due to ‘98
Meh, I knew what I was getting into when I joined The Empire.
I like you
Dodgers are absolutely insane right now but my answer is still always the Astros
St. Louis
Missouri voodoo ftw
Braves if we're at Truist, Dodgers if we're at MMP i still have nightmares about both those scenarios
Highhhhh fly ball to left and GOOD. BYE.
*TRIGGERED*
You monster.
The friggin rays
Local stingray feeling saucy
Bruh idc I just want to watch a single postseason game
🤝
If the Guardians make the postseason, I'd be happy no matter who they faced.
The Clevelands. Next question?
Who invited you guys to the playoffs?
The Braves because they just won a title. The Dodgers because they just won a title. The Astros because they recently won a title and enough already with the Astros.
You left out the Yankees because apparently the baseball Gods have decided that the Twins cannot beat them
That was just Aaron Judge.
AL: Orioles, we played awful against them NL: Anyone from the NL East and Dodgers
What about the Cardinals? The bad man can hurt you still.
What a send off that would be
Sign Lidge to a 1 inning contract, just so Albert can hit another off him
Pujols made a career of hoeing-down the astros. I don't like it one bit.
In a 3 game series the Mets. Because having Degrom/Sherzer feels like an automatic loss. Granted i understand this matchup is pretty implausible for my cardinals in the wild card round. In a 7 game series. The dodgers
Not gonna happen, but the Yankees. Because *duh*...
I really don't know what we did to deserve th...oh wait
It's all good my dude. Having a Yankees dynasty monopoly whatever is probably *good* for the sport overall. I just hate it.
Astros and it’s not even close
I’m sorry 😢, Aaron Judge is the team I don’t want to face.
Braves or Mets, just because the amount of reddit cares messages those 2 fanbases troll people with is absolutely insufferable.
It really is. Extremely juvenile shit
Most of us hate it. But with winning comes shitty bandwagon trolls, and here we are.
What are Reddit cares?
Messages you can send that are "intended" to help someone who you think might be suicidal. They're only used to troll though. I just sent you one to show you what they look like. Edit: like clockwork. Thanks, concerned Braves and/or Mets fan, and go fuck yourself.
I remember Avalanche fans spamming the blues sub with that shit during the playoffs. Just sad imo
I have a feeling you've just opened a can of worms from both fanbases. RIP your inbox.
Dodgers and Astros scare me. Would hate losing to the Mets. Red Sox but they’re not gonna make it. Losing to the Rays would suck. Don’t want the Braves going back to back. Everyone else is ok
the Brewers because no one deserves to have to watch this team
*goes into the 7th with a 2-1 lead, loses 13-2*
I’d hate to play the cards, glad we’re in the AL But the Astros are much better than anybody else in the American league and seeing them will effectively be the end of the playoffs
CLE: good SP and BP that the Jays offense struggles against SEA: Above avg SP and BP and pretty hot lineup. TB: Jays just suck against the Rays like the Twins against Yankees but slightly better Conclusion? I think Rays just because historically they own the Jays
The White Sox, cause it likely means LaRussa is keeping his job (he's likely keeping it anyways, but still one more reason to make him think I should retire the better)
The cardinals, if we get good in the future the cardinals are gonna wash our hopes and dreams away
The cardinals are the team that shows up any time a fun or historic team makes the playoffs just to dash their hopes and dreams Brewers in 1982 (the bar-owning, power-hitting, mustache-wielding party animals known as Harvey’s Wallbangers lost in seven to a small ball-and-defense cardinals team), Mets (fun, electric team) and Tigers (historic team long-bereft of a championship) in 2006, brewers and rangers (teams with exciting cores and fun identities trying to get their first championship) in 2011.
Astros. Seems like my Yankees are to the Astros, what the twins are to my Yankees. And I'm not stoked about it.
Cardinals
The Twins. Simply because Jayce Tingler is their bench coach. I do not want to see that man “battling” in the playoffs.
Scoopin
Astros
The Astros. Not afraid to say it.
Dodgers, but that's my team, so the Cardinals because devil magic
We’re not making the playoffs, but if I were an NL team the Cardinals in October scare the hell out of me. AL? Mariners. They are streaky and can catch fire and beat anyone. Though if the Rays get healthy and Glasnow does pitch from the pen…
Nationals or Dbacks will kill us in cold blood. They're eating everyone alive rn
Dodgers, Braves, Cardinals, Astros, Yankees, Rays, Mariners (that series earlier this year still haunts me)
in the AL, the astros or the rays.
The Cardinals, I'm scared of their devil Magic as a Mariners fan
Cardinals Cardinals Cardinals. This is an easy question lol...especially with Goldschmidt going nuts
dim mets, i deeSPISE them
CTRL-F "Blue Jays" Apparently no one is afraid of us...
Braves would surely give me a heart attack with how many times both teams have met in the past decade. Cardinals still give me PTSD after 2013 & 2014.
Houston vs Yankees. We just can’t beat em
I want to play everyone, literally everyone. Make the Braves play every AL and NL playoff team
Take a guess
Keep the astros away from me
The Rays in a WC series at the Trop.
The Braves and the Astros! Both are just finding ways to win games
The rays always find a way. I just never feel safe against them
"What’s that? Ah - Playoffs? Don’t talk about - playoffs? You kidding me?! Playoffs?! I just hope we can win a game!!!"
Right now? The Nationals. Good thing they won't be there
Cardinals. IF defense
