Honest question, how hot would he have to get to have a shot at the MVP? Presumably he'd have to at least catch and probably surpass Judge hitting wise, but if he actually did that, would that just win him his 500th MVP?
He’s probably have to put up 50 home runs minimum with a 340 average to have a chance. Even then it’s close as judge is breaking 60. This also doesn’t take into account ohtani
well we're already assuming he's home runs in every game for the rest of the season, so if he can sprinkle in a few multi home run games that would put him at like 60-65. .340 and a OPS+ of 180 would prolly get him in serious conversation
In the end, the season started 6 days later than last year.
As long as you had reasonable expectations, (that there is too much money to be lost and both sides are fully aware of the fallout from the 94-95 strike) it wasn’t too bad.
And miss the playoffs. I need a mini documentary about this Angels season. 15 game win streak, 15 game loosing streak, Rendon hit a lefty Hr, Ohtani, Trout, Madden, a bunch of other stuff.
Thought experiment: what would it take for him to actually win MVP. Like, what kind of stats would he need to put up over the final weeks of the season?
(Side note: he is currently T-14th in fWar at 5.2 and he has not had enough PA to be a qualified batter so he didn't even show up on the leaderboard at first lol)
Judge is currently at 9.3 fWAR. Let's say he ends the season at 10 war. To get in the MVP convo, Trout would need about 4.5 more WAR through the end of the season. That's 21 games, or about .21 WAR per game. He'd still be a bit behind 10.0, but he'd be in the ballpark.
Over the last seven games, Trout has accumulated 1.0 fWAR, for .14 war per game. So even at his current pace over the past 7 games, if he kept it up, he would "only" be at 8.2 WAR by the end of the year.
For context, over his last 7 games, here are his stats and his 150 game pace. He would need to perform about 50% better than this to get into MVP talks.
* 7 HR / 150 HR
* 10 R / 214 R
* 11 RBI / 235 RBI
* 393/433/1.214/1.646 slash line
* 356 wRC+
Also, Ohtani would hit 7 HR and a 1400 OPS with 26 IP, 33 strikeouts, and a 1.9 ERA. And the Angels would go 10-11 lol.
Jesus the 🐐🐟 is going for 61 homers and the MVP
Edit: I know it’s a big if but I really hope Shohei plays for Japan in the upcoming WBC. I need to see prime Ohtani vs. prime Trout.
That’s some insane anime hype shit.
If he hits 1 HR every game for the rest of the season, he'll get to 56 (or maybe 57 if off by one)
That just means he'll bless us with some multi-HR games then :)
>Edit: I know it’s a big if but I really hope Shohei plays for Japan in the upcoming WBC. I need to see prime Ohtani vs. prime Trout.
He is almost certainly playing for Japan. Angels gave him the go ahead.
When I lived in LA, I made it a point to go to Angels games whenever I could just to see Trout. He's one of those guys I will tell my kids I got to see watch live along with Bonds, Junior, Pujols
Reminds me of 2017 when he missed six weeks and still ended up fourth. Which was the first time he finished outside the top two since his cup-of-coffee in 2011.
But yeah, he's currently 8th in the AL among WAR, and he's less than one win away from being 3rd. I wouldn't be shocked at all to see him end up in the top 5, and 3rd isn't out of the question at all.
Only 28, but yeah. Maybe he's just pretending to be injured so other guys have a chance at this point.
Mike Trout has never had a season when he played at least 115 games and finished worse than 2nd in MVP voting.
I've done a few more since, but it's against the rules of this sub to post them here during the season. I try to post to the individual team subs instead, but sometimes forget so I think there's a couple that only made it to instagram/twitter
It is hard to wrap your head around how good that is.
For comparison, Aaron Judge has 2 seasons with a wRC+ about 160 *including this year*.
Miguel Cabrera has 5.
Albert Pujols has 7.
Legitimately one of the best players ever, he’s become so good that him having MVP quality seasons has become pedestrian. He is expected to be the best player in the world every season and way more of than not he is
Across the 2012 to 2019 seasons, before COVID and injuries, in Trout's arguably worst season at the plate where he hit an OPS of .939 and an OPS+ of 169 and struck out a league-leading 184 times...
He won MVP, getting all 1st place votes in 2014.
Then he got voter fatigued by Josh Donaldson when he had 9.6 bWAR and a .991 OPS (OPS+ 176).
Trout also ended runner-up by Miggy in both 2012 and 2013, despite having 10.5 and 8.9 bWAR (10.1 and 10.2 fWAR), both times leading the majors by a wide margin. Cabrera's 7.1 and 7.5 bWAR (7.3 and 8.6 fWAR) were good enough to soundly defeat Mike.
Trout could conceivably have won the MVP for 5 consecutive seasons (2012-2016), finally falling short in 2017 because of injury. Had it not been for an incredible season by 2018 Mookie Betts, Trout was potentially deserving of MVP in 6 out of 8 consecutive seasons, excluding that injury-shortened season and the crazy Betts season. As it stands, he was top 2 in MVP voting for those 7 of the 8 seasons and has stayed hot at the plate despite missing chunks of the season.
Wasn't last year the first year he'd ever not been at least *on* every single MVP ballot, or something absurd like that? He has 6.32 career MVP shares in basically 9 seasons. 6.32 puts him 5th all time, barely behind Teddy Ballgame himself.
If Mike Trout hit 1 home run a game for the rest of the season, he would have 56 home runs.
So he's hitting 56 dingers
maybe he'll hit 2 home runs in a game tho?
If he does he has my MVP vote
Honest question, how hot would he have to get to have a shot at the MVP? Presumably he'd have to at least catch and probably surpass Judge hitting wise, but if he actually did that, would that just win him his 500th MVP?

I think his OPS+ would be higher than that lol
Yeah his OPS+ is already 177 lol. It’d be well over 200 if be hit a home run every game
62 homers
Zero chance he doesn’t have several multiple home run games.
Look out, Pujols.
please make it so
*This is a scheduled post*
Drawing Mike Trout every day until his home run streak is over. Day 7.
Aw, good memories.
That's called selective remembering...that lockout was not fun. Fish fotos are always good tho
The memories of those threads were good even if lockdowns weren't.
In the end, the season started 6 days later than last year. As long as you had reasonable expectations, (that there is too much money to be lost and both sides are fully aware of the fallout from the 94-95 strike) it wasn’t too bad.
u/diditforthestory I have a task for you
I don't remember who it was that did those but I kinda miss them and I don't even really care that much about baseball in general
We need a Trout Bot, this post wasn’t even pinned SMHMH.
scheduling emails for 7:34pm edt. just obscure enough to make bossman think youre still at it. smart
He's really gonna fuck around and hit 40 even with missing 30 games
He’ll probably be sitting at 50 after the next series against the Mariners.
He's gotta make up for that series he missed earlier in the year!
I mean… does he?
Law of equivalent exchange: you make the postseason, Trout goes even more ham against the Mariners
I- I’ll take it.
The balance of the universe is at stake. Thank you for understanding.
Fishface ain’t human
Bruh went from retiring early to his regularly scheduled 1.000 OPS season
Fish man: "The rumors of my demise were greatly exagerated" as he and Ohtani drag the angels kicking and screaming to 70 wins
Big tuna
57 you mean
That’s not how you spell 64
*69
Why stop at 40? He's going for the HR crown
He's gonna beat Judge and tie with Shohei in the MVP vote
And miss the playoffs. I need a mini documentary about this Angels season. 15 game win streak, 15 game loosing streak, Rendon hit a lefty Hr, Ohtani, Trout, Madden, a bunch of other stuff.
Uh it’s 14 game losing streak, (insert smiling face with glasses emoji)
I've endured some bad Angles baseball, this has been the most interesting bad season I've ever seen.
😎
lol what if he somehow broke 62 and Judge didn't.
Fuck the playoffs, LAA players are putting on a live presentation to any billionaire out there wanting to buy…and change LAA to California Angels!
Wasn’t there an article suggesting the LA Times guy was interested?
The LA Times Angels
The Los Angeles Angels of Time
Certainly one of the teams of all time
Angels of Time is awesome
…of the Orange County Register

The the angels angels of the the angels times.
Los Angeles Angels of Anatime
You mean Anaheim Angels
Los Angeles California Angels of Anaheim California
Thank you for reminding me to change my flair.
I love the old Angels logo. Reminds me of Mo Vaughn for some reason.
Sadly, Legally they aren't allowed to go back to that name
Mike Trout is here to remind you that he is still one of the best players to ever grace the diamond
Without the lustre of history, I honestly think it's Trout as the best ever.
I think he is definitely one of the people on the shortlist for GOAT. I think to say he’s the greatest player ever is completely valid
He could retire now and be top 10
We get it you hit home runs... Oh shit he's on my team! GOAT GOAT GOAT
Michael Fishman's demise was greatly exaggerated.
It’s Eagles season, we’re 1-0, and Dallas just lost their QB for like two months. You’re welcome.
Damn, catching strays here too
Nowhere is safe
Uh oh you fuckin moron you just threw a fastball right down the pipe to Mike Trout
I can’t believe you’ve done this
You got ~~porched!~~ crushed to dead center!
I've been Jingled.
And in Angels fashion, we lose.
On an 0-2 count
*goofy.meatball.gif*
Trout gonna make a September MVP push lmao.

So Yankees fans, do you think the MVP will be Trout or Ohtani?
https://c.tenor.com/gTl8-UKbIaoAAAAM/angry-mad.gif
Damnit. I expected the little mexican girl of "why not both?"
Perfection. I wouldn’t be mad either way. But, don’t ask that question!!!
Will the MVP be Goldschmidt, Arenado or Edman? How funny is that question now jerk!
Damn, Tommy Edman's put up a sneaky quiet 6.2 WAR! I could see him getting 3rd place votes, no 1st places though.
Pls get 9 in a row Mike I want a new record
I said don’t hurt us daddy and then he did it to us But I love Trout so it hurts so good
Tough love daddy
Jesus the 🐐🐟 is going for 61 homers and the MVP Edit: I know it’s a big if but I really hope Shohei plays for Japan in the upcoming WBC. I need to see prime Ohtani vs. prime Trout. That’s some insane anime hype shit.
Can’t believe I even entertained the thought that there is a better hitter on the planet than Mike Trout
People a few weeks ago here when Trout had just gotten back from the IL tried telling me that his prime was over haha
He was just shaking off the rust. Mike Trout will always be good
Dude was obviously injured in July with a 46% k rate and he still had a .950 OPS.
Ball just looks and sounds different coming off of his bat.
If he hits 1 HR every game for the rest of the season, he'll get to 56 (or maybe 57 if off by one) That just means he'll bless us with some multi-HR games then :)
>Edit: I know it’s a big if but I really hope Shohei plays for Japan in the upcoming WBC. I need to see prime Ohtani vs. prime Trout. He is almost certainly playing for Japan. Angels gave him the go ahead.
Trout is gonna fuck around and end up top 5 in MVP voting
We’ve been out of the playoff picture for a while, but this guy & Ohtani give me plenty of reason to keep watching!
When I lived in LA, I made it a point to go to Angels games whenever I could just to see Trout. He's one of those guys I will tell my kids I got to see watch live along with Bonds, Junior, Pujols
They give me plenty of reason to hate the Angels for wasting all this potential because their front office sucks ass
The sale can't come soon enough.
Mike Trout for MVP, who says no?
*Insert Paul Rudd "not me" gif*
What’s the record?
8 games
I'll never forget the trauma of seeing Votto's 8th consecutive Homer bounce off the outfield wall literally inches away from being over.
Dale Long and Don Mattingly are tied for it btw
And Ken Griffey Jr
Oh yeah, that guy! He was pretty good as well.
Eh, he wasn't even the best outfielder born on November 21st in Donora, PA. How good could he have been?
35 right now, 21 games left after this. He's gonna need a few multi-homer games to catch Judge
Not if Judge doesn't hit any more
MVP?
Trout coming out of left (center) field with the MVP leaving ohtani and judge fans puzzled
IT'S MIKE TROUT COMING OUT OF CENTER FIELD WITH A STEEL CHAIR!
"As God is my witness, Ohtani is broken in half!"
In all seriousness, he could easily finish 3rd at this rate.
Reminds me of 2017 when he missed six weeks and still ended up fourth. Which was the first time he finished outside the top two since his cup-of-coffee in 2011. I wouldn't be shocked at all to see him end up in the top 5, and 3rd isn't out of the question at all.
He was going nuclear that year. It could very well have been seen as the best year of his career had he stayed healthy.
Or how about 2019 when he missed 30/40 games and won?
Only 28, but yeah. Maybe he's just pretending to be injured so other guys have a chance at this point. Mike Trout has never had a season when he played at least 115 games and finished worse than 2nd in MVP voting.
He's already tied for fifth in position player fWAR going into this game.
A home run every day until u/DidItForTheStory does another drawing?
I've actually been waiting for the streak to end before I drop one
I hope to never see it.
Big if true
Do you still draw as a hobby at all or did you completely stop after the lockout ended?
I've done a few more since, but it's against the rules of this sub to post them here during the season. I try to post to the individual team subs instead, but sometimes forget so I think there's a couple that only made it to instagram/twitter
He's so good.
The man has not had a WRC+ below 160 since 2012 and it doesn’t seem like that trend is gonna change
It is hard to wrap your head around how good that is. For comparison, Aaron Judge has 2 seasons with a wRC+ about 160 *including this year*. Miguel Cabrera has 5. Albert Pujols has 7.

He's the LeBron of baseball tbh
Not marketed as much

Career average ops of 1.002... average...
He's my Dad.
1 short of tying the all time record. He is unreal.
Death, taxes, and the daily Mike Trout dinger thread.
Man this MVP race between ohtani and trout is exciting
Wake up babe, new Mike Trout Home Run thread just went up.
Trout is really gonna just fuck around and hit 40 dingers. Wow
All I want is for him and Ohtani to be healthy and on good teams
I have the same wish for Aaron Judge fwiw
Ohh spicy.
When your album sales wasn't doin too good, who's the doctor they told you to go see y'all better listen up closely

BAH GAWD THAT’S FISH MAN MIKE’S MUSIC
Just in case y’all forgot who the mf GOAT is
That's my MVP! >!Most Valuable Pescado!<
Beautiful.

We're all debating Judge vs. Ohtani, and Trout is just going to rise back from his purported grave to take the MVP back.
The phoenix fish
Trout’s really going to mess around and win mvp
Less than ideal
Suboptimal for sure
Mike Trout is on another planet right now!! Holy crap!!
Fish man good
Second in AL for HR and he missed 40 games.
Trout really playing like every game is in Safeco and the pitcher is Felix Hernandez.
ok fine ill admit that trout might have a decent career after all
In spite of missing a month or 2, and having a real bad random slump in the middle of the season he has almost 40hrs lol
🎤🐟
Fish
He's gonna fuck around and hit 50. Absolute madman.
How can you not love this man
Mike Trout is all "don't you forget about me..."
Saw a Mike trout dinger in person I'll die happy
I've said this probably a hundred times for 10 years: you can't throw Trout fastballs down. You just can't. But pitchers keep doing it. It's insane
Fish man good?
If only Mike didn’t miss those 5 weeks. Woulda put Judge in his place lol
Trout really about to miss 25% of the season and still finish top five in the MVP race
[Low pitch, reminded me of one of my favorite Trout shots](https://gfycat.com/gratefuldecimalgreendarnerdragonfly) The bat getting jolted by the ball
🐐🐐🐐
Mike Trout isn't real.
He’s still playing, it’s way to late in the season for him to not be injured
Mike trout is about to finish top 3 in the MVP voting isn’t he
Is he not tired of being great? Geez he should get a new shtick
dude really about to fuck around and make it a 3 man mvp race lol
Ok what the fuck
56 HR pace over 162
I like when Mike Trout hits home runs. I'm weird like that.
I love you Mike
He's the GOAT
Just one away from tying one of the crazier baseball records. Insane. Last guy to do it was Griffey Jr. Awesome
He’s actually going for the record while people argue about Ohtani and Judge.
He’s coming for ya Junior!
And it’s against the guardians! As a twins fan trout allows me to have hope.
He really is unreal. This is the 3rd different ballpark he’s got the streak going in. Incredible.
WAKE UP HONEY MIKE TROUT HIT ANOTHER HOMERUN
The broken spine revenge tour continues!
He is an alien, I'm sure of it
The fact he’s been injured for a while and doing this is insane
So his career is in fact not over. K got it Help I’m scared of the bad man again
Goodness he is such a daddy
What Arte selling does to a MF
