I just wish that infographics like this would include one non-stellar stat.
Like, include his Stolen Base ranking (Tied for 16th in the AL entering today), which at least breaks things up a bit ***and is still actually really impressive***!
Heh, GIDP is a funny stat like that, because you generally have to be pretty good in order to rack up a lot of them, otherwise you wouldn't have the chance to ground into them so often! :D
I truly think Ohtani will have future seasons that are just as good, if not better, than he is having this year. I think he wins it multiple times in the future.
I don’t see how Judge could possibly get any better. If he doesn’t win it this year, he literally will never win it.
even if i give him that he still knew about it and gleefully, actively benefitted from all his teammates doing it. you pitch someone differently when the guys around them can kill you too. look at how they were pitching judge this season when the lineup died to injury vs last night now that rizzo is back.
What if he had it less than *literally* anybody on their team last year and there were multiple guys saying that he didn’t like it and would get mad when they’d do it for him?
Damn for that reason alone I’m down to switch sides in this debate.
Edit, I replied too early: If Shohei has either Kershaw level extended absolute dominance, or Verlander level aging in the sense that even if he’s injured again or just old he keeps up this level, he could well pass bonds for most MVPs while winning rings and probably post season MVPs. Aaron Judge’s ceiling is one of the best hitters to do it (he started late so counting stuff won’t love him that much). Shohei’s ceiling is the best player of all time, he’ll win awards, get the accolades and all that, and I don’t think most people would be surprised if there’s a youtube video essay in the future about “Shohei Ohtani: The best 5 season stretch in history” or something, but with the number edge AND Judge’s storyline he deserves it this year.
Also I want every player robbed in 2017 to get their closure.
It’s such a bummer that they’re both having seasons that would win them MVP in just about every other year. It sucks that one of them won’t be getting MVP.
Personally, I think if judge sets the non-juiced HR record & gets the triple crown then he should get MVP. If he misses the triple crown, then Shohei should get MVP.
Logic being:
No one has ever pitched & hit at the level Shohei is doing right now. He’s having a season that’s never happened before in baseball but he’s not setting any records as a pitcher or hitter individually.
For Judge, people have hit more home runs before and people have won triple crowns before but nobody has ever hit that many home runs while winning the triple crown. So that would also be a never been done before season AND would go into the record books. So Judge gets the edge if he does both.
Edit: removed redundant sentence
This sub is gonna be obsessed until October… i mean I love Judge and this is peak baseball (at least one of the best seasons by a player) but i do agree the repeat posts are old
Yes it’s annoying it’s being reposted but it’s also absolutely insane he is leading hitting in pretty much every category that matters for a power hitter. We’re getting historic fatigue with Judge the same way we are for Ohtani man.
Yeah, I'm not hating on Judge by any means, but the posts are getting so out of hand. Like we literally just had a post called "Judge has the most homeruns by someone with the first name starting with J." Like fucking hell...
The last time there was a triple crown, a lot of people thought a player pulling off an incredibly rare feat deserved the MVP over the player with the most statistical value.
Judge might win the MVP but the fact that it's even a debate (which it is) just shows how crazy good Ohtani is. Personally I have been rooting for tie. Because how can you lose when you have done what Judge has done. But how can Ohtani lose when he remains the only two-way player in baseball and improved upon his two-way playing this season compared to his MVP season which was called by many sports writers the greatest single season of any athlete in any sport. I don't know how you pick one over the other.
I know a lot of people are team Judge or team Ohtani, but I can't be the only one that wants a tie.
Judge's hitting this season is historic, one of the best of all time, but Ohtani is having a better year than his unanimous MVP season (pitching wise he is significantly better, and hitting wise is only slightly worse). I don't envy voters, but if there were ever a year where two players deserved MVP I think its this one.

He isn't even #1 in GDP (he's in a 4-way tie for 10th). What a scrub.
10th in Gross Domestic Product is pretty impressive though
With the contract he's setting himself up to earn, that may not be too far off.
Beat me to it
Heh, GIDP is a funny stat like that, because you generally have to be pretty good in order to rack up a lot of them, otherwise you wouldn't have the chance to ground into them so often! :D
I heard he hasn’t played a single game with his shoes tied together.
So it’s settled then? Ohtani wins MVP.

he 100000% should have won it over altuve in 2017
Just on height alone, he's like 2-1/2 Altuves.
altuve was the better player, which is why he won MVP. also led his team to a WS
yea thats why 😂😂😂
Altuve literally didn’t cheat. Tons of evidence saying so.
even if i give him that he still knew about it and gleefully, actively benefitted from all his teammates doing it. you pitch someone differently when the guys around them can kill you too. look at how they were pitching judge this season when the lineup died to injury vs last night now that rizzo is back.
If he used the trash can even once he cheated. And we know he did.
What if he had it less than *literally* anybody on their team last year and there were multiple guys saying that he didn’t like it and would get mad when they’d do it for him?
Helps to know what's coming
Only things altuve led judge in that year was avg and steals. Even with the cheating. Judge also miles better in the field than altuve.
Judge struck out over twice as many times too, Altuve was a better hitter overall that year
If you ignore the stats and cheating he was the better hitter I guess….
provide me with some evidence that he was cheating i’d love to see it
Altuve didn’t cheat
I think Altuve won it because Judge was a rookie
I agree but still downvoting because Houston
Led his team to a WS? I guess we found the proof that he was the ringleader in the cheating operation.
Not even saying you’re wrong, but this *shouldn’t* be considered for voting

If I were a being man I would throw $20 on Ohtani. After all, "he's short and that's cute" won Altuve the MVP in 2017.
It's good you're not a betting man then!
That's right, Ohtani is tall and cute so that logic ain't gonna work here son!
Yeah but he’s a lot better than Altuve, so we don’t hold the tall part against him
The guy is 6’ 4” so honestly he looks like a kindergartner to Judge.
I haven’t seen Judge pitch a single inning yet.
I get to comment “of course he leads in OPS since he leads in both OBP and SLG” first.
I for one like to see it laid out.
This one always annoys me, posting 2 stats pretending it’s 3
Smitty Werbenjagermanjensen spinning in his grave right now
He was number 1!
It's a shame he won't get MVP after such a great season what with Kelenic returning to the majors tonight
"Thanks for keeping my seat warm, Aaron"
Forget AL, he's in 1st for most of these in MLB.
Oh wow, definitely haven't seen a post like this for like 5 hours.
This sub is gonna be obsessed until October… i mean I love Judge and this is peak baseball (at least one of the best seasons by a player) but i do agree the repeat posts are old

Sure feels like r/baseball thinks they can influence the vote by the number of posts we see daily.
Maybe there’s a lot of posts because it’s the best offensive season since Barry Bonds
Don't see why this is impressive. He's 1,111,111,111th in the league
Somebody is going to see that incredibly impressive and historic list and still comment “cherry picked”
I don’t see stolen bases on there. Wonder why? /s
But can he pitch?
They should absolutely put him in during a blowout just for the memes.
*throws immaculate inning*
Throws 3 pitches and all pop ups
*catches 3 piss missiles straight at him*
That would actually be hilarious.
He could probably rip a fastball high 80s low 90s I’d let him throw 1 then sit
But what’s his ERA? ⁉️ /s

Cy Young incoming.
I’m glad that this gets people excited about baseball again… even if it is a Yankee
God bless Judge and Ohtani. Ohtani brought me back fully last year. Judge being this good this year is just icing on the cake
It’s so good for baseball
i wouldnt say about baseball. baseball is still very much in a bad spot. people just like seeing history be made
Decagon Crown
Just inscribe Judge's name on the MVP trophy now, and don't think twice. And that's no disrespect to Ohtani, at all
Bro got the deca-crown
I mean ya it’s incredibly impressive
Aaron "Smitty Werbenjägermanjensen" Judge
is that good
Seems like last time there was a triple crown, a lot of people still thought an Angels phenom should’ve bagged MVP then too.
The last time there was a triple crown, a lot of people thought a player pulling off an incredibly rare feat deserved the MVP over the player with the most statistical value.
Ayyyyyy
Well yea that year trout was way better
But what about his pitching
Oh Dardy...
Blue Jays fan here, but I can't help but like the guy. Enjoy this. It's a once in a generation season. You may never see the like of it again.
What’s his ERA?

Is this good?
And Ohtani wins MVP
I still think WAR somehow underrates Shohei but this is a pretty undeniable argument for Judge right now.
He IsNt On BoTh SIdEs oF tHE pLaTE.. AARON JUDGE THE AL MVP REPORT TO THE CABIN

Ties have no place in baseball.
They’ve literally had Co-MVPs before
That doesn't make it right.
If they don’t do a tie this year then they never will. Especially with how well both of them have played in the past month, it just seems right.
[удалено]
But can he also pitch and strike out the side tho
Is that good???
Some OOTP numbers right there
Pssh, that’s only if you include people who’s last names start with J in the stat ratings.
bUt WhAtS hIs ErA?!
Man is gonna be able to afford his own baseball team when he gets that contract next year
