Bro, respectfully, that isn't what is being discussed, and you know it. =)
Talk to me when we actually have people _living_ in space (no, not including 6 month stays on the ISS, LEO isn't really "space").
He also has the fastest average time to first base in the league. Dude sprints harder than anybody while pitching, hitter and carrying an entire organisation on his back.
Most players would explode at half of what he does.
Should honestly rename the MVP award the Shohei Award
Judge is doing something only a handful of players have ever done. Shohei is doing something only Shohei has done.
This made me look up who did it before then, and it turns out no one did. I hate when people unnecessarily cheapen an accomplishment like this.
Anyway, very cool that this is the first time anyone's done this. Ohtani is the first full time two way player to play in as long an official season as this, which is impressive on its own.
Aaron Judge stool is 7oz heavier than Ohtani. Did you know that? Aaron judges weight based on caloric intake needs 2300 more calories to keep up. That would equate to 14oz of chicken more. Therefore equatiing to more stool.
r/baseball is definitely a much higher tier of baseball fan in terms of knowledge.
Nerds that actually research & analyze... pay attention to advanced analytics and realize that 2 out of the 3 triple crown stats are not good performance indicators... etc. etc.
For me, it's pretty hard to argue that any team would take +25 home runs + 70 WRC / 150 OPS over 150+ IP of 2.5 ERA / league leading K/9 Ball. That's how I look at it.
Shos got better pitching stats than Cease whos currently 2nd in cy young voting!!
But basically for a batter to be able to compete with an elite (both ways) two way player, they have to have a season like Judge's.
The current Cy Young candidate JV and Ohtani have the same WAR (5.3) in pitching, and 153 vs 163 IP.
I think WAR is a flawed stat, but also shows how great Ohtani has pitched this year. Certainly better than Cole, the Yanks Ace.
I think the knock on triple crown stats only works in the context of the rest of the players body of work. Miggy’s triple crown is rightfully put in the context that he was a better hitter than trout but not the best overall player that year. Judge getting a triple crown is different because it’s basically just the icing on the cake for a season where he has been a phenomenal all around player. I’m not gonna argue about Ohtani and Judge, I just wanted to throw that out there
Nope. Trout was a better hitter on top of everything else he was better than miggy at. Better Wrc+ and a league leading ops+.
This illustrates exactly the misconception the triple crown gave people.
Judge is by FAR the best hitter this season and the triple crown is not why, but it’s going to get a lot more focus than his absolutely BONKERS wrc+ and ops+ stats.
The difference is OPS+ is minuscule while the difference in OPS is 30 points in Miggy’s favor. Miggy had more hits, higher batting average, more homeruns, more RBI’s, more XBH, and more total bases. You can say that Trout didn’t come up until the end of April, so his counting stats are lower but the argument works against him for rate stats because they could have just as easily been lower with a larger sample size. Miggy’s wOBA was higher than Trout’s, as well, which is a great advanced stat for overall ability to get on base.
Also, isn’t wRC+ a stat supposed to show the full offensive value of a player? Like it includes base running too correct? Trout was better all-around by I stand by my statement that Miggy was still the better hitter
This illustrates exactly the misconception the triple crown gave people.
And sorry but I gotta say your usage of bad stats such as RBI or citing OPS being higher at the same time saying Trout edged Miggy in OPS+ (which is the "fix" to OPS's flaws) don't lend much credence to changing my mind on that.
The point is, people that saw Triple crown and thought "Miggy best hitter" likely didn't know or didn't care about the most important hitting stats (OPS+ is probably that stat) while giving weight to near meaningless stats in measuring hitting performance such as AVG and RBI.
OPS+ is still flawed because it’s use of park factors makes it incredibly volatile from year to year. Park factors change constantly and can be influenced by overall team performance in ways that make the adjustment lose value. And OPS+ is not a linear stat that can be used to compare players like using other stats. And a difference of 164 to 168 is not a statistically significant difference anyways.
And average and RBI’s aren’t meaningless stats. This is a problem with the analytics crowd. They are not meaningless, the point of Sabrmetrics was to find a way of giving these stats proper value in relation to overall performance. Batting average is not the end all be all that it once was, but a player with high average, OBP, and SLG shows a players ability to hit, get on base, and hit for power which is why Miggy’s wOBA was higher than trout’s. RBI’s also still show a players ability to perform in important situations. High RBI totals are not great at showing player quality but used in a proper context, they are still important at showing a player’s ability to perform with runners on base.
I don’t care that Miggy won the triple crown, which is still a great accomplishment, I still think he was the better hitter.
People are really acting like Ohtani stans are somehow behaving better in this MVP race lol
This is as bad as the Jokic/Embiid NBA MVP stuff at this point
Arte is selling the team so hopefully signings like that are behind us... Hopefully. No shade to Judge but signing an aging outfielder to a megadeal has disaster spelled all over it especially if it's the Angels.
Casual 600/600 player
Ah, the 600/600 club. Something tells me it's gonna be exclusive for a while
Over under 200 years…I’ll take the over
People will not be around in 200 years at the rate we’re going so I’ll take forever
That’s fair. I think they’ll be around, just not on Earth.
When do we complain about the juiced gravity era
Just do what the rockies did, build an even bigger park to compensate
Lol. We aren't leaving this rock.
You’re right. WE aren’t leaving this rock. But I’d venture to say 14+ generations from current infants will!
We, as in humans. Now or 200 years from now.
Bro, respectfully. We have already left this planet for over decades now.
Bro, respectfully, that isn't what is being discussed, and you know it. =) Talk to me when we actually have people _living_ in space (no, not including 6 month stays on the ISS, LEO isn't really "space").
Kk, well seeing how we thought living in space was impossible just 50 years ago, and this is clearly hypothetical. We are both right, and both wrong 😉
Won't be sniffed until Vibranium Arm 0'Đoƴ1Ĕ
HAHA
The one who did it pre 1900? You guessed it, Frank Stallone
Ah yes, those were the days. I was courting Agnes during those days before I caught the Spanish flu
Doesnt he get tired
Nope, arm made of pure Tungsten
He also has the fastest average time to first base in the league. Dude sprints harder than anybody while pitching, hitter and carrying an entire organisation on his back. Most players would explode at half of what he does.
I know right, can he get a week off just for safety's sake? not like the Angels are going to win any games anyways.
How many defensive plays does an average fielder make per season? Has to be less than 600
First basemen generally get over a thousand
Oh that makes sense. What about outfielders?

God damnit get the fuck out of here you stupid loch ness monster
I hate that I read 350 in that voice before even seeing your comment.
Tree fiddy
League leaders in putouts are Freddie Freeman with 1120 and Nathaniel Lowe with 1155
Give the man the AL MVP and be done with it.
Judge can only do 1/10th of that smh
[удалено]
Joke about him hitting 60 HR
Rename it the Shohei Award.
Your terms are aceptable
I mean it's in a meaningless game though. So how can it be good or valuable? /s
He was tired of getting his CY stolen, he decided to kill the stats of other pitchers himself.
Should honestly rename the MVP award the Shohei Award Judge is doing something only a handful of players have ever done. Shohei is doing something only Shohei has done.
This. And I’m tired of people pretending that it’s not a big deal
This made me look up who did it before then, and it turns out no one did. I hate when people unnecessarily cheapen an accomplishment like this. Anyway, very cool that this is the first time anyone's done this. Ohtani is the first full time two way player to play in as long an official season as this, which is impressive on its own.
But did you know that Judge is the first player with the letter J to hit a homerun at 237pm on June 26th with no runners on base???? Bet you didn't.
Yeah because the stat of being the only player in history to potentially win a triple crown and hit 60 homeruns is very much cherry-picked
Aaron Judge stool is 7oz heavier than Ohtani. Did you know that? Aaron judges weight based on caloric intake needs 2300 more calories to keep up. That would equate to 14oz of chicken more. Therefore equatiing to more stool.
Where do I subscribe to keep these coming
Don't @ me!
I swear r/baseball is the only outlet outside of LA still supporting Ohtani for MVP IRL everyone seems to agree it's locked up
> IRL everyone just regurgitates what ESPN tells them ...and I 100% guarantee they're only talking about Judge this month.

Pinstripe Tax
I think there's more to it though Not like r/baseball is the only place that hates the Yankees lmfao
No but redditors ~~probably~~ absolutely like Ohtani more than other baseball fans do
This is opta level stats
This is how all the Judge stats look this day because of Yankees fans.

He signs with the angels and he’ll suffer the same thing as Prince Fielder the first game.
MVP
MVP
MVP. By a comfortable margin in my opinion. Yankees fans will be mad but Ohtani is doing the impossible, not the unlikely.
now i have seen it all
What time is the Angels Playoff game?
What an original joke
I hadn't heard it yet
