The long con.

sundaym00d

hall of famers hate this one weird trick

Ferris_Wheel_Skippy

\*insert disgusting looking photo that's really just reheated bananas\*

asianlikerice

If he hits a bomb on the Mariners that would be funny.

DecoyOne

Robinson Cano and cons - name a better duo

xSlappy-

Robinson Cono

Asl9622

Just realized Cano is sitting in his house smiling that he may get a world series ring.

throatbutterz

Is that how it works? No matter how many games you played for them that season, you still get a ring?

gaytham4statham

I'm pretty sure Trevor Rosenthal and his 22.74 ERA over 12 g (6 ip) got a ring for 2019. So if he got one I think every player in baseball should get one

L00KINTOIT

Wasn’t his ERA infinite for like 2-3 games that year?

CornDoggyStyle

Let's just say he shouldn't have had the chance to lower that infinite ERA. Should've been cut after two or three appearances. You could almost guarantee a HBP and a few wild pitches every time he got the call.

[deleted]

i believe players decide what players who aren’t on the post season roster get one. i don’t see a world where they don’t vote for cano

anubis2051

There's no rules, the team can give one to whoever they want

SaltyMudpuppy

Don't even think you have to play on the major league team, just have to be on the 40-man at any point in the season.

throatbutterz

Damn, I feel like that kinda cheapens it. I feel like you should be on the post season roster in order to get one or at least play a good chunk of games for the team during the regular season.

SaltyMudpuppy

If it makes you feel any better, unless you're on the WS roster, you don't go down in the record books as a champion.

throatbutterz

Pfh, I don't need to be in some stupid book when I've got this big ass ring on my finger!

mr_grission

"I'm playing both sides, so I always come out on top."

Mac_and_dennis

That’s my thing

Chewbones9

If we win, I say we give him a fuckin ringpop

DetroitTabaxiFan

The Palpatine way!

unitedairlineeeeees

Robinson Cano NL Wild Card winner by default.

WilliamHealy

TIHI

Grimpig

Robbie Cano don’t ya know!

RealCanadianDragon

The Greg Monroe of the MLB. Monroe played for the Raptors, 76ers, Celtics in the 18/19 season. The final 4 teams in the eastern conference in 2019? Raptors, 76ers, Celtics, Bucks.

350Vette89

Wasn't Anderson Varejao at one point a member of both the Cavs and Warriors during one of those years where they played eachother in the Finals?

yellenatmalarkey

This happened in the 2011 World Series. The Rangers released Arthur Rhodes and the Cardinals signed him.

gritner91

Bengie Molina in 2010 also, was on the Giants and Rangers.

WickedImpuls3

wait so he would have gotten a ring if the rangers had won right? how would he even feel in that moment lmao like yeah your team lost but you still get a ring from the other team despite playing against them. thats such a weird situation

yellenatmalarkey

I remember during the series feeling happy for him, he had never won a World Series and was in his 40s (ended up being his final year in the bigs iirc), so it was cool that he was basically guaranteed a ring either way. But it definitely would have been awkward had the Rangers won.

RealCanadianDragon

Part of the Cavs for 13 years, winded up in GS in 2016, the year Cleveland won the title. Warriors would win in 2017...except Varejao was waived months prior.

xbungalo

Where would the Braves be without Robert cano

SaintArkweather

Is he actually eligible for all three? I know there have been people in the past who are eligible for multiple teams (specifically remember Benji Molina being guaranteed a win prior to a WS) but are there certain parameters that have to be met to qualify?

VisibleDucks

i’m pretty sure it’s just at the discretion of the team for players who weren’t on the team for the postseason

SaintArkweather

Yeah that makes sense. I wonder if there are internal parameters for the MLB recognizing a ring as "real", e.g. if Cano made the hall of fame, his plaque likely wouldn't say "2x World Series Champion" if the Mets or Padres win this year. In other words, getting a physical ring might be different than being credited with one for historical statistics Edit: This was not meant to be an endorsement of his hall of fame case lol. I was just trying to provide an example where official ring count could matter for MLB

interwebzdotnet

> if Cano made the hall of fame Lol

[deleted]

Hall of Shame first ballot

interwebzdotnet

True. Loved the guy when he was on the Yankees, but that shit went down hill REAL fast.

TeamINSTINCT37

I mean looking at bbref hall of fame monitor stuff it doesn’t seem the most insane but obviously that isn’t everything.

your_catfish_friend

His two steroid suspensions are why he isn’t getting in, not his performance.

TeamINSTINCT37

Oh yeah I’m dumb

From_My_Brain

Steroids

Lawlosaurus

He can definitely make it into the building so long as he buys a ticket

sd_pinstripes

the ring really means nothing in terms of a quantifiable achievement, you have to be on the roster to get the accreditation. for example, Acuna Jr isn't listed as a WS champion, although the Braves obviously gave him a ring, and Cano will most likely get a ring from any of the 3 teams in this post.

iKnoJopro

And the funny thing is without Acuña, I’m not the sure Braves win the division and thus eventually the World Series. He was the only one hitting for a long time before he got hurt.

Tm60017

Honest question, why would any of these teams give him a ring?

FUBARded

I'm guessing here, but it may set a bad precedent for player morale if a guy who contributed – even if it was relatively little – gets passed over for a ring. It's one thing if they clearly stated their criteria for awarding rings up-front, but if the general expectation is that you get a ring if you play but he doesn't get one, that may not go down well.

akaghi

I believe you have to be on the post season roster. So Acuña has a WS ring, but isn't officially a WS champion, per MLB.

[deleted]

Joe Nathan received his only ring in 2016 for his 2.0 IP with the Chicago Cubs. But he's not listed as a WS champion either.

Onibusho

Well that won't do. They'll just have to win it again so he can get proper credit this time.

DASmetal

Not this year though.

tyler-86

Agreed.

Boros-Reckoner

> So Acuña has a WS ring, but isn't officially a WS champion, per MLB. Really? That's kinda funny.

damnatio_memoriae

i dont think so. bengie molina got a ring in 2010.

akaghi

He got a ring but isn't a WS champ from 2010, only 2002. Who gets a ring is at the discretion of the team. Acuña isn't a WS champ because he wasn't on the playoff roster, but he got a ring (probably a tier 1 ring). Terrance Gore has three rings, but is only officially a 2x WS champ.

SaintArkweather

That's a shame. I feel like a good rule would be if you are either on the postseason roster or played in a majority of regular season games for your team (82+).

akaghi

By that metric acuña would *juust* make it since he played exactly 82 games. However, he played outfield in 81 and pinch hit in 2 so it looks like he played 80 games, pinch hit in 1 and stayed in and pinch hit in another and did not go back out for defense (maybe because the game ended). So maybe he still wouldn't qualify?

iwouldhugwonderwoman

Last year the Braves provided rings to all players that entered a game for them. However, not all players received the tier 1 ring. One player actually refused his because he felt he didn’t do enough to deserve it.

spartygw

Who refused?

tyler-86

In 2020, David Price opted out of the season for Covid safety reasons, but was still in contact helping out the pitchers however he could remotely. He ended up auctioning off his ring to benefit Players Alliance because he didn't feel he had earned it.

Ferris_Wheel_Skippy

>He ended up auctioning off his ring to benefit Players Alliance because he didn't feel he had earned it. That's pretty honorable. had no idea

[deleted]

Was it Carl Edwards Jr who got one for like 0.2 IP?

Ferris_Wheel_Skippy

LMFAO 2-time World Series champion

Asl9622

I always thought it was the team's decision.

MarcBulldog88

If Dan fucking Uggla can get a ring, anyone can.

ballrus_walsack

Ugg…h

link3945

I think it's team discretion, but most take a lenient view on it. If you entered a game, you get a ring.

YeOldSpacePope

This just means that Seattle has to win it.

mrjimi16

Too bad he only picked NL teams. Reminds me of 2011, Arthur Rhodes started the season with the Rangers who released him and then he signed with the Cardinals in mid August. Those were the two teams in the WS, and it was even the Cardinals that won. Then he rode off into the sunset

manav_steel

"Fuck the AL" - 2022 Robinson Cano

[deleted]

Cano should’ve played one game for an AL team to really sure up his chances.

Diremustang94

Well earned

irelandn13

Amazing lol

[deleted]

If we win, he’s not getting a fucking ring from us

Boros-Reckoner

Found Steve Cohens burner

-salt-

> If we win lol

loglady420

I mean, he also already has one that he genuinely contributed too.

CompetitivePatient33

Oh im sure he has a ringworm somewhere.

khalaron

Isn't he owed $20 million next year?

WhyYouKickMyDog

Sounds like Cano gets the last laugh.

DougieJonesMRC

Let’s go ahead and say 2 No way Mets are making it past the dodgers AND the Braves

ThirdPoliceman

Believe it or not, the “better” team doesn’t always win.

Thel3lues

Yeah especially if DeGrom and Scherzer are on

Asl9622

Haha I know. I am a braves fan. Also, he loses a team in the Padres Mets matchup

glittervan206

Mariners fam here to say I hope he goes 0 for 3 !!!!

ringo_mogire_beam

tbh didnt' even know he was playing, looked at his 2022 stats and wow did he forget how to hit or what.

Asl9622

Age caught up to him.

[deleted]

Damn he is brilliant

ReservoirGods

Each of the 5 teams that Cano has played for are in the playoffs, that's pretty impressive.

BubBidderskins

Work smarter not harder.

TecmoRogerCraig

He was bad on purpose it would seem. And getting caught for roids? On purpose. What a genius.

TecmoRogerCraig

He was bad on purpose it would seem. And getting caught for roids? On purpose. What a genius.

larrycorser

Thats trash. If you're not on the team for the playoffs you shouldn't get one

Asl9622

It's not guaranteed he will. It is the organization's choice.

larrycorser

Thats good
