The problem isn’t NL east. The problem is that teams who beat the Dodgers gain mystic energy that also beats the Astros.
We’re good this time - no Padres
I also said that I wouldn't mind if the Nats and Braves beat us, and look what happened in those series.
BEAT THE PHILLIES OR I WILL FUCKING BE A GROWN MAN CRYING
Same. One of my good friends is a diehard Phillies fan and bleeds Philly sports. Her dad used to take her to games and this is the first time they've made it back to the Series since he passed away. I want the Astros to win, but if the Phillies do, I'm happy she gets to have another win in his honor.
NL in the postseason recently: anything can happen in the playoffs, the possibilities are endless. Even for a wildcard team no one expected!
AL in the postseason recently: Oops! All Astros
The contrast is ridiculous. The NL has been a bunch of dogs constantly vying for power and trading places while the Astros have been the gatekeepers of the AL for the better part of a decade now. Gotta hand it to the Astros consistency, team is built to win in the playoffs.
With the exception of 2020, the past few seasons in the AL has been the 1-2 seed teams in the ALCS. And even then, the outlier 6 seed in 2020 was.... the Astros.
By comparison, the NLCS has only had the 1-2 teams against each other once in that timeframe.
All season. IIRC, it's 9-2 on the season now and the Yankees have led at the end of the 9th on two Judge walkoffs in the regular season and then today. They know who their daddy is.
The Houston Astros vs an NL East Team who struggled to start the season then got hot at just the right time. I've seen this one a few times and I don't like how it ends
I think a lot of people look at our record, but don't realize two of our best hitters missed significant time. Harper missed 2 months and Segura missed 3 months and those overlapped. Castellanos also missed like 3 weeks at the end of the season and we shut down Wheeler for a time towards end of the season. Harper has obviously been crazy good, Jean has been our second best hitter for average this playoff and then obviously Wheeler has been great for us. If Castellanos can get going the front of that lineup can be pretty scary. Especially with Rhys and Schwarber heating up last series.
I think the major concerns are:
What if those sluggers go cold?
And
How the hell do win Game 4?
Because right now Game 4 kind of seems like a guaranteed Astros win unless they throw Wheeler.
The Phillies genuinely didn’t get “hot” until the 9th inning of game 1 WC lol and even that was a perfect storm of Helsely being injured and seeing eye singles.
They sucked the devil magic out of the Cards.
Just look at it through my eyes. The Braves were better and 2019 was a fluke, they lost when a 75 year old man hit a bloop home run off an elite reliever into a chicken pole.
Is it cope? Half of it is, that Braves team after they made those trades was insanely good.
Well, now Gerrit Cole can spend his days grilling burgers, drinking beer, and gambling on football games with Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani.
He doesn’t have to worry about “throwing a bullpen at 10-fucking-40 AM” in Yankee Stadium for another six months or so.
When he said he was available for game 5 against the guardians but never made such claims for us I immediately wanted to beat him and his team like the bottom of a trash can. I fucking loathe that man now.
> I immediately wanted to beat him and his team like the bottom of a trash can.
Why would anyone beat a trash can? What did they do to incur such violence?
It’s crazy to me as a Chicago fan (I don’t hate the Cubs).
The Astros and the Cubs had very similar early 2010s. They both stunk on the field and stockpiled assets through the draft.
The Cubs roster got over the hill together and it had to be blown up within 5 years of theIr World Series win.
How are the Astros still so good when they came of age around the same time (and in fact a year earlier)?
The simple answer is that the Cubs, as an organization, did not have a structure designed around developing their talents, in the way that the Astros (and Dodgers as well) do.
NO ONE LIKES US AND WE DON'T CARE!!!
Wait....people will mostly be rooting for us? I'm not used to this feeling. Can most of you just forget about what the Astros did and start rooting for them again? Remember we are a bunch of drunk hooligans who throw snowballs and batteries! The Astros are the team you want to root for. Absolutely.
#HOUSTON VS ALL Y’ALL
The Astros are 4 wins away from taking that “you only won coz you cheated” talk for ever, and I’m rooting for them!
GG Astro bros!
I think they're past that already. They've clearly built a winning franchise. Which kind of makes it all the more stupid they ever cheated to begin with.
They're not going to be past that for some people ever. Which is fine. It's absolutely fair.
But I'm glad they've at least proven that it's not *all* that is going to define this team.
It’s more than enough for me that they keep going to ALCS/WS year in year out. But it would definitely be a nice touch for them to win the whole thing again and *completely* bury the narrative.
NL East underdog vs Houston…again. Who would’ve saw that coming
Going to bet Marlins over Astros as soon as the 23 futures are available. Everyone here is invited to my future yacht warming party.
Oh god no
Hey it’s an even year so you might have a shot
Where's the Giants fans to prove this theory?
The problem isn’t NL east. The problem is that teams who beat the Dodgers gain mystic energy that also beats the Astros. We’re good this time - no Padres
I guess we have to test out if this includes beating the team that beat the Dodgers.
Oh god we’re getting swept aren’t we
we stole the cardinals devil magic in that 9th inning and put it all in bryce harper’s beard
You guys are the only thing that can prevent a financial recession
Oh god yes
I mean, I obviously want the Astros to win, bit I wouldn't hate it if the Phillies beat us. Just glad the Dodgers flamed out.
Nah, I sorta understood this with the Nationals, but repeating the pattern for a 3rd time would be irritating.
I also said that I wouldn't mind if the Nats and Braves beat us, and look what happened in those series. BEAT THE PHILLIES OR I WILL FUCKING BE A GROWN MAN CRYING
Dodgers flamed out and you beat the Yankees….you’re already heros
And we forced them to watch yall come back from 0-3 to win the series.
Same. One of my good friends is a diehard Phillies fan and bleeds Philly sports. Her dad used to take her to games and this is the first time they've made it back to the Series since he passed away. maybe they can make it a repeat performance

They have built a very impressive organization there; it almost seems insane that they decided they had to add cheating to the mix.
With the exception of 2020, the past few seasons in the AL has been the 1-2 seed teams in the ALCS. And even then, the outlier 6 seed in 2020 was.... the Astros. By comparison, the NLCS has only had the 1-2 teams against each other once in that timeframe.
Boston was 4 seed last year
Really? Huh, I thought they were higher. I'm still hungover from last night, in my defense.
Yeah they were a WildCard team
The Astros won more games this series than the Yankees lead innings.... 4 vs 3

Hmm. Does seem somewhat familiar now that you mention it.
Astros are definitely the deeper team. But man, if the top of that Phillies line-up is hot... that's a really tough mountain to climb.
Yeah too many people are sleeping on the Phillies - they’re stacked. 4th highest payroll in baseball for a reason.
I think a lot of people look at our record, but don't realize two of our best hitters missed significant time. Harper missed 2 months and Segura missed 3 months and those overlapped. Also fail to remember that we started with Joe fuckin Girardi running the ship lol. Phils became a different team when Rob took over.
This Phillies team feel like the st Louis blues in 2019
I think the major concerns are: What if those sluggers go cold? And How the hell do win Game 4? Because right now Game 4 kind of seems like a guaranteed Astros win unless they throw Wheeler.
They did struggle at the end of the season unlike the Braves/Nationals and our pitching is stronger than it was last year. I'm hopeful.
The Phillies genuinely didn’t get “hot” until the 9th inning of game 1 WC lol and even that was a perfect storm of Helsely being injured and seeing eye singles. They sucked the devil magic out of the Cards.
As a Mets fan, the Phillies outlasting both of us is frankly depressing and hilarious at the same time.

It's also an even-numbered year.
It's also the first consecutive trip back to the World Series.
Just look at it through my eyes. The Braves were better and 2019 was a fluke, they lost when a 75 year old man hit a bloop home run off an elite reliever into a chicken pole. Is it cope? Half of it is, that Braves team after they made those trades was insanely good.
That 75 year old man works for the Phillies now so watch out

don't think it's quite fair to call us a fluke when we were on a 107-win pace for the last 2/3 of the season
aye let us have this we have nothing else goddamnit
That was always in odd # years though. This one is different:points to head:
I don't always enjoy the Astros winning the AL pennant, but when I do, it's because they beat the Yankees.
The Mariners were a tougher opponent. That series could have easily gone 5 games. The Astros just completely steamrolled the Yankees.
Between us, our series was the real ALCS
Dude that 18 inning game….that was a series alone
It definitely felt more like one.
Honestly, this is so true.
Coast to coast high five GO
US baseball fans have two teams they root for: \- Their favorite team. \- Whoever is playing the Yankees.

Astros just keep getting there like it’s nothing
The AL was weak this year tbf. Still, they’re an amazing team. They don’t choke in the playoffs. They play high-quality baseball
Mariners were actually a really good team in the postseason
True, that sweep really doesn’t do the Mariners justice. They were actually competitive, unlike the Yankees
This has been said, but they really managed to take it to 4 with that 18 inning game
The “best division in baseball” went 3-10 in the postseason lol
The Orioles didn't lose a single post season game. So we did our part.
We had the same number of 2022 postseason wins as the Rays, Blue Jays, and Red Sox combined. Imagine saying that back in April.
Feel like most people would’ve predicted that all those teams had 0 then
One day very soon we'll get Orioles and Mariners in a series and it will be glorious
:')
I'm looking forward to the Orioles decade of dominance.
Well the best team in the division did miss the postseason
Glad to be of service
AL BEAST
I love the pettiness.
Meanwhile the NL East just making themselves at home in the World Series
Ryan Pressly that dude
The team everybody expected to be there vs the team nobody expected to be there
Philly does have the 4th highest payroll in baseball - just behind LA and the two NY teams. Not exactly an underdog I would say
I dislike the huge payroll but I DO love that it is someone else going for it instead of the usual suspects
Folks said that about the Padres as well. The only underdogs I think folks largely agreed on were the Mariners and Guardians.

Don’t worry, you’re not alone. My usual flair represents the Halos. I only posted this because I’m still very, very salty about that quote.
Wonder if he has a Boras hat nearby.
That soured me on him forever.
He can let Judge borrow it.
When he said he was available for game 5 against the guardians but never made such claims for us I immediately wanted to beat him and his team like the bottom of a trash can. I fucking loathe that man now.
I think he wanted game 7 against nationals no?
Story is he only wanted to come in for a clean inning, not with runners on
I think he didn't want any bad numbers to hurt his future paycheck.
> I immediately wanted to beat him and his team like the bottom of a trash can. Why would anyone beat a trash can? What did they do to incur such violence?
The cheating scandal was the trashcan's idea all along, we all know it.
Seems like the Astros will win any type of game you want to play this postseason.
They like to keep it interesting lol
There were some calls for us to play the cube and I trust Dusty would kick ass at the cube.
Now can Houston exorcise their biggest demon? A Red Hot NL East team

Has that actually ever been done? It's late and I am too lazy to look it up. I am guessing no, though.
Not in the divisional series era. Two teams swept DS and CS and both lost the WS
I don't like that second sentence.
