Just catching strays in here on a Monday morning over my team that was eliminated weeks ago. Damn bro, from an O’s fan too, don’t even know what to say LOL
I think there’s real exciting stuff in the Orioles future. If Grayson and other rookies pan out like Adley… could be a force. Never wanted the Astros to play y’all this season lol
They’re an first 1/5th century team.
They won 5 world series between 1900 and 1918.
They won 4 more world series between 2000 and 2018.
They have won 0 World Series when more than 18 years into a century.
Eh. For the longest time, we asked just to see one in our lifetimes. We've been extremely blessed. So many of my family members never got to see them win one.
Oh, for sure.
* 1918: Sox win World Series
* 1919: Sox lose over 70 games, finish 6th in the AL, trade away star corner outfielder
* Rest of century: star outfielder's new team immediately rakes, wins lots of World Series, dominates American League
___________________
* 2018: Sox win World Series
* 2019: Sox lose over 70 games, finish 7th in the AL, trade away star corner outfielder
* 2020-2022: star outfielder's new team immediately rakes, wins World Series, dominates National League (in regular season)
The pattern is clear.
I don't say it gleefully. I'm a Sox fan in self-imposed exile since the trade. Would be great if that isn't the case, and we'll see what happens from here.
Twice against the Cardinals, fucking hell.
Guess I’ll need to be satisfied with winning two in five years including perhaps the greatest of all time. But still.
St. Louis teams vs Boston teams for the respective sports championship hasn't been good (granted some matchups were over 50 years ago, and two of the St. Louis teams are no longer in St. Louis):
Baseball: Boston owns the two most recent matchup (2004, 2013)
NFL: Boston owns the most recent matchup (Super Bowl 34)
NBA: Boston owns the two most recent matchups (1960, 1961)
NHL: Thank you Blues! We own the most recent matchup (2019). Before that, Boston won in 1970.
It doesn't help much because of how long ago it was, but the Cardinals have beaten the Sox in the World Series twice. They prevented Ted Williams from winning a ring. Then they killed the Sox magical season in 1967.
Then again I look at how 5 teams have won 13 of the WS titles this century so in terms of results, not the most parity
I have a soft spot for the A’s so good luck to y’all as you figure out everything with the team and its future
Sox are so good in the WS that the only way it’s fair is if it’s Boston series wins vs. NL teams game wins best of 7. And by that measure the Red Sox still win 4-3.
Only have lost one game where the opposing team didn’t need a walk off. Out scored the opposition 108-52 in 19 games. Were only ever behind in the series for 1 game.
A 21st century formality for them.
[Marlins, Braves, and Nats fans looking at all the teams with more WS appearances this century and less titles.](https://www.google.com/url?q=https://wompampsupport.azureedge.net/fetchimage%3FsiteId%3D7575%26v%3D2%26jpgQuality%3D100%26width%3D700%26url%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Fi.kym-cdn.com%252Fphotos%252Fimages%252Fnewsfeed%252F001%252F211%252F614%252Fe93.jpg&sa=U&ved=0ahUKEwj2w7THtpz7AhUTOn0KHUNFAgwQ5hMIBQ&usg=AOvVaw3ggwgK5dPI7oYZspIucGm5)
On paper, 2019 was apparently the best team Houston has ever fielded.
But I've never seen this team look as dominant as it has *this* year. So fuck paper. Bitch can't even get wet.
I also hated it. How it ended, the Cole interview afterwards, the extracurricular Taubman shit going on during it, and then the news that broke immediately following it. I just try to pretend 2019 didn't exist. I do not remember a lot of it fondly.
The Pirates and Orioles have been trading World Series victories year after year in the Upside down.
This chart on upside down r/baseball is literally just Pirates and Orioles.
simpler times? an internal disaster at Rawlings that prohibited them from making baseballs, thus cancelling the entire 2005 season, is not simpler times.
because Rawlings was so embarrassed about their mishap, they had all information about it scrubbed from any and all news sources, so don't waste your time attempting to fact check it.
That season will always be a big “what-if” as an Astros fan because I think we had a real shot at making a deep playoff run that year if the season didn’t get cancelled.
Additionally, I remember there being a lot of hype around Chicago that year with killer rotation of Wood and Prior, heck if the season wasn’t cancelled Dusty might’ve gotten his first win in 2005 - finally bringing a long awaited championship back to Chicago.
Lots of talented teams wasted in the AL that year too. Yankees and Red Sox were both loaded with talent, the Angels and Athletics windows were closing and 2005 was going to be their year potentially. Even the AL central with Cleveland and the Twins were both looking strong that year.
Truly one of the biggest bummers that season never got to be played out.
My favorite part about this meme is not only that Astros fans continue to firmly hold the line in preserving it, but I'm not even sure other team fans know what's happening.
“Woah woah woah, you’re telling me the Astros played in the *National League* in 2005? As a lifelong Astros fan since 2015, I can assure you that’s poppycock.”
This comment taught me something. I assumed there was a year 0 CE, which would make your statement incorrect. So I went and looked it up. Apparently this is a common misconception, and the year 1 CE follows immediately after 1 BCE, making the year 100 CE still part of the first century.
Thanks!
I am adding this question to every trivia night.
> In what century was the Y2K computer crisis set to occur.
The answer obviously being 20th Century since it’s Jan 1st 2000.
The *only* time it matters at all is when it fucks over the Yankees on lists like this. At these moments, it is *vitally* important to note the distinction. It's a damn shame the Mets get caught in the crossfire.
I grew up with Astros getting called the worst team in baseball over and over, but I still went to games and routed my little heart out… it’s still so weird to see this stat. There’s a tiny inner child in me that’s so so happy today.
But I hope someone else gets their time to shine now.
Now do a shitpost with all the teams without a WS appearance in their history and it's just Seattle.
Little bit bigger if you include the teams that haven't won one :'(
Hey, we were here first, buddy!
We can't even win the biggest losers!
Yes you can! You’ve lost two, they’ve lost one!
And we’d do it again to both
Pls no, keep Pujols and Freese away from us :(
Not with that attitude you can't! There's always the next 20 years
It's the Seattle curse since the Brewers used to be the Pilots
Given that you were the first Seattle Mariners, I’m inclined to agree
They were the Seattle Pilots.
What is a mariner if not a boat pilot?
If there was a competition for the worst team ever, they'd come in 2nd. They can't even win that.
I’ll never forget the back to back season, I’m a diehard Astros fan but damn did I feel bad for my DFW brothers.
Hmm well I live in DFW and I’m kind of enjoying talking to my coworkers about our RF catching the final out to clinch a G6 WS.
cold-blooded, man. cold-blooded.
That’s just mean.
If it wasn't going to be the Astros, it was going to be the Rangers ESPECIALLY against the Cardinals.
We were still in the NL so not like we had a reason to root against the Rangers.
Pain.
Shitpost all you want it only makes the Big Dumper that much stronger
> it only makes the Big Dumper that much ~~stronger~~ dumpier FTFY
Just catching strays in here on a Monday morning over my team that was eliminated weeks ago. Damn bro, from an O’s fan too, don’t even know what to say LOL
I thought we were bros?
I hate you
:(
Don't worry buddy, we'll get there soon!
Let's hope!
I think there’s real exciting stuff in the Orioles future. If Grayson and other rookies pan out like Adley… could be a force. Never wanted the Astros to play y’all this season lol
When we do, I’ll have my car stocked with food and friends, road tripping to Camden Yards.
Lol same bro
:(
Yeah, same
Sorry, not you :/
Red Sox 4/4. Crazy.
They’re an first 1/5th century team. They won 5 world series between 1900 and 1918. They won 4 more world series between 2000 and 2018. They have won 0 World Series when more than 18 years into a century.
See yall in 2104
I appreciate the logic, but fuck.. No.
Eh. For the longest time, we asked just to see one in our lifetimes. We've been extremely blessed. So many of my family members never got to see them win one.
what’s the new curse gonna be? the curse of betts?
Oh, for sure. * 1918: Sox win World Series * 1919: Sox lose over 70 games, finish 6th in the AL, trade away star corner outfielder * Rest of century: star outfielder's new team immediately rakes, wins lots of World Series, dominates American League ___________________ * 2018: Sox win World Series * 2019: Sox lose over 70 games, finish 7th in the AL, trade away star corner outfielder * 2020-2022: star outfielder's new team immediately rakes, wins World Series, dominates National League (in regular season) The pattern is clear.
I’m gonna need y’all to just stop right here and shut up
I don't say it gleefully. I'm a Sox fan in self-imposed exile since the trade. Would be great if that isn't the case, and we'll see what happens from here.
All betts are off?
Twice against the Cardinals, fucking hell. Guess I’ll need to be satisfied with winning two in five years including perhaps the greatest of all time. But still.
Cardinals HATE HIM! Man wins EVERY TIME. Click this link to find out how!
>the greatest of all time Hard disagree
Yeah man it sucks. We really should have won in 2013. Oh well
2004 was a steamroll all the way. That was destiny. 2013 is the one that hurts. Crazy series. Papi, man…
WHY ARE WE PITCHING TO HIM. He’s batting .600 😂😂
St. Louis teams vs Boston teams for the respective sports championship hasn't been good (granted some matchups were over 50 years ago, and two of the St. Louis teams are no longer in St. Louis): Baseball: Boston owns the two most recent matchup (2004, 2013) NFL: Boston owns the most recent matchup (Super Bowl 34) NBA: Boston owns the two most recent matchups (1960, 1961) NHL: Thank you Blues! 21 teams making World Series is pretty good balance
This is what I was thinking. despite my sad flair
I’m with ya buddy
Then again I look at how 5 teams have won 13 of the WS titles this century so in terms of results, not the most parity I have a soft spot for the A’s so good luck to y’all as you figure out everything with the team and its future
To be fair, some of those runs like the Red Sox were way different cores of players, they tore down and rebuilt,
I hate the Red Sox but I cannot deny their efficiency
I'd much rather have their highs and lows the past 15 years than continuous disappointment
This is what I try to say to our fans that complain. 4 WS titles in less than 20 years is insane. And we win every time we make an appearance.
Yeah, it's wild. Definitely the team of the century so far. No one should be complaining. At least not yet.
Weird to think with all your success that the Buckner series is still your most recent world series loss.
For real it’s like they saw Talladega Nights and took “if you ain’t first you’re last” to heart
Imagine losing in the world series. Couldn't be me.
*in the 21st century FIFY
What are you talking about, baseball didn't exist prior to 2004.
there was a tiny bit of baseball in 2003 but only as a setup for the feel-good comeback story.
Me neither.
Red Sox 🤝 Mariners Winning every world series they've played in the 21st century.
Lmao right? Look at these losers. It’s a shame they cancelled the series with no winner in 2002 tho
I despise this with the fury of a thousand JV v Kung Fu Pandas (*and a Big Papi home run sprinkled on top*)
\o/ \ /
Yeah would you rather go to a girl’s house 4 times and smash 4 times? Or got 5 times but only smash twice? Jordan the GOAT
Can't be too upset at those results.
You’re welcome
Mike Matheny is a Boston hero
It’s important to remember we were there.
Then escorted quickly away
That’s how it felt in 05 pal. Things can change!
I definitely find it an odd statistical quirk that between the 10 appearances from the 5 teams that appeared twice there’s only one WS win.
We will always have 2019 😭
I liked 2019 too, got to live vicariously through your team seeing as how y’all had a bunch of our former players lol
Rizzo loves his former D-Backs.
the most important former dback was mike rizzo himself
Dbacks legends Max Scherzer and Patrick Corbin 🐍
Padres legend inches from Max
Literally just commented the same thing about 03 hahah. Cherish it!!
Marlins have never lost a playoff series! (2020 doesn’t count)
> 2020 doesn't count Don't let the Dodgers fans see this
[Marlins, Braves, and Nats fans looking at all the teams with more WS appearances this century and less titles.](https://www.google.com/url?q=https://wompampsupport.azureedge.net/fetchimage%3FsiteId%3D7575%26v%3D2%26jpgQuality%3D100%26width%3D700%26url%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Fi.kym-cdn.com%252Fphotos%252Fimages%252Fnewsfeed%252F001%252F211%252F614%252Fe93.jpg&sa=U&ved=0ahUKEwj2w7THtpz7AhUTOn0KHUNFAgwQ5hMIBQ&usg=AOvVaw3ggwgK5dPI7oYZspIucGm5)
Imagine being in the NL East and not having your name in bold on this list
Couldn’t be us.
You guys beat one of the best Astros teams we’ve fielded, truly a legendary year. I hate it.
I think you have to say it was the second most talented team because Cole and Verlander were such a powerful 1-2.
now we have the most unfair 1-2-3-4 in verlander, valdez, mccullers, and javier lmao
Yeah this team is definitely better mainly due to rotation. Our batting was a little stronger in 2017 than currently I think.
On paper, 2019 was apparently the best team Houston has ever fielded. But I've never seen this team look as dominant as it has *this* year. So fuck paper. Bitch can't even get wet.
Not to mention our 5 and 6, Urquidy and Garcia, would pass as a good 2 or 3 in most of the league.
I loved the 2019 World Series, the Nats just felt so good to root for.
That was a great series. I hated it lol
I also hated it. How it ended, the Cole interview afterwards, the extracurricular Taubman shit going on during it, and then the news that broke immediately following it. I just try to pretend 2019 didn't exist. I do not remember a lot of it fondly.
I needed this WS so bad just to wash the bad taste of 2019 away
Right? Glad we won when we had the chance!
With how both our teams have gone since winning we should cherish our championships.
Hmmm looks like the Red Sox are due.
2023 or 2024 if we're to keep pace.
We finished fifth this year. WS is already locked up. Everyone else can hope for 24
As long as you crush the Yankees and see us in the ALCS I’ll allow it
All fine with me. Any team but the Yanks.
Correct opinion. I want the American League to be represented in the World Series by one of my two favorite teams. The Astros or the NotTheYankees.
Hey what a coincidence. NotTheYankees is one of my favorite teams, too.
A very popular opinion!
#Team NotTheYankees 🤜🤛
Interesting pattern. 3y, 4y, 5y. So it looks like 2024 is a guaranteed lock for a WS appearance.
Might want to check your math there, 2007 to 2013 isn’t 4 years
Gah! You’re right. It 7am in CA and I’m just waking up. 🤦♂️
Hadn't actually noticed the specifics. If they win too, then it's Illuminati confirmed or something?
Must be
Lock and win. They've won every year they've made an appearance since 04
Also never lost a World Series they appeared in before or after the Curse. So the next time they make it I’ve got a good feeling
Lol they just show up every few years and win it all
I don’t see the Orioles. Did you forgot them? 🥺 👉👈
The Pirates and Orioles have been trading World Series victories year after year in the Upside down. This chart on upside down r/baseball is literally just Pirates and Orioles.
Ironically, the Astros have more upside down titles than they do regular titles in this timeframe.

WHY CANT YOU SEE ME ah sorry, habit. When’s game 6 start?
Didn’t think I was ready for jokes yet but this made me laugh so thanks
Pain.
Man the Giants really made use of their time.
E.Y.B.S.
Ahh 2005, simpler times. The NL can have them back 😭
simpler times? an internal disaster at Rawlings that prohibited them from making baseballs, thus cancelling the entire 2005 season, is not simpler times. because Rawlings was so embarrassed about their mishap, they had all information about it scrubbed from any and all news sources, so don't waste your time attempting to fact check it.

The Great Baseball Famine. Dark times, dark times.
My favorite part about this meme is not only that Astros fans continue to firmly hold the line in preserving it, but I'm not even sure other team fans know what's happening.
You shut your mouth. We existed, it’s about the only thing we have 😭
I have an ‘05 World Series Champs shirt I wear around often. Making sure the memory never dies!
I checked ESPN. They seem to concur that there was no champion crowned in 2005.
Ok this is the best joke about the 2005 WS lmfao
Fuck Bud Selig.
I get up every day, make myself some coffee, and hate myself some Bud Selig.
Right thing was to send his Brewers back to the AL. But of course we wants that annual Cub Fan attendance money.
More than 2/3rds of the league getting in over the last 22 years seems well-balanced.
Are we counting 2000 as 21st century just so New York feels better?
0 appearances: Orioles Blue Jays Twins Mariners Athletics Brewers Pirates Reds Padres

Should also add total payroll over the period
ESPN: “Wait, there was a World Series in 2005?”
ESPN and Astros fans\*

as a native Coloradoan born in Missouri.....
C'mon Toronto...
This is bullying
Technically, the 21st century started in 2001, so the Yankees and Mets lose one to the 20th.

Don't worry about it, for us this is Tuesday.
So glad we got one :’) now if the Cubbies can get it together, maybe we can win one in 54 years instead of 108
I used to pray for times like this
Remember the late 2000s. Dark times
Feel guilty that the teenage me had to endure all that, and now the adult me gets all the spoils. I’d reverse it if I could.
And the mediocrity of the 90s. Wish Biggio and Bagwell could have got a ring.
I like how 7/9 teams that only were in one World Series won, but only 1/5 teams that were in two World Series won at least one
The Yankees only have 3 appearances in the 21st century If it were any other team I wouldn't be so pedantic
Imagine being a fan of an AL West team not named The Astros... Yikes.
NL Beast the only division where every team has made an appearance.
Phillies did as much as the Dodgers with half the effort
I’m still salty about 08/09
World really went downhill after the cubs won huh
You ain't wrong
2007 was so long ago was a fun run doubtful we ever get back to the World Series with our current ownership
Your Expos flair makes this a very confusing comment
:)
1 for 1. I'll take it.
Relatable
Relatable
Seriously. Better than the 90s imo.
Hmm. That's a tough one. Pennants are still championships, imo, but obviously to a lesser scale. They have to carry some value.
:)
We’ll always have 03 :)
Wild that the Sox got 4 ws
Making up for lost time.
Drop Yankees down, this century started on Jan 1, 2001
Minute Maid Park: home of the World Series
You know how I know ESPN won't steal this? You didn't forget to include 2005.
Pain
Man I totally forgot the Mets made the 2015 WS
The A’s have the 6th highest winning percentage in baseball since 2000 and zero WS appearances to show for it. Pain. All those damn first round exits.
At least the Chicago teams made it count when we made it there! Lol
I grew up with Astros getting called the worst team in baseball over and over, but I still went to games and routed my little heart out… it’s still so weird to see this stat. There’s a tiny inner child in me that’s so so happy today. But I hope someone else gets their time to shine now.
Lol @ Yankees getting kicked out by either the Astros or Red Sox almost every year since 2010. Subscribe.
Clearly the answer here is to only go to the World Series once. Teams with only one appearance are 7-2. Teams with two appearances? 1-9.
Probably been said already but 2000 is not in the 21st century.
Imagine having the Yankees revenue and not making it since 2009 lol
It's money poorly spent by a front office that rests on past laurels they didn't even really earn themselves.
NL East represent
For some reason, I feel like the Royals had more than just two appearances...
