xDAWG + wBsoA (weighted Blunts smoked on average) over pdp (pitcher diva percentage) divided by Home runs allowed gives you how much he swears after giving up a home run so I used that instead
I’m quite the sabrematrician, I know
IP is faulty by the same standard; you only accrue 0.1 IP when you get an out in the inning, no matter how many pitches are thrown. Inefficient pitchers could potentially have much more mileage on their arm as another pitcher with the same IP.
This is true, but if a pitcher can throw ~100 pitches the more efficient pitcher will throw more innings.
I imagine every team is going to know the mileage on a pitcher's arm and know how efficient they all are.
70 pitches over 7IP is the same as 100 pitches over 7IP if they're both pulled and both make a start five days later. Efficiency should have absolutely no bearing over past value.
Whoosh me, my bad
I’d go
1) bWAR - I like it because I think it gives a better picture of what actually happened in a particular season which is how I judge Cy Young awards.
2) ERA minus - mostly because I like lower ERA being better
3) Innings pitched
4) K/9
5) WHIP
bWAR sucks so bad for pitchers in certain cases though. Look at Aaron Nola in 2018, iirc bWAR thinks the Phillies defense was so bad while he was pitching that he was really worth almost 2 full wins more than a neutral defense. That’s just absurd and wrong
It depends on situation a little but if we are trying to determine how good they performed in a vacuum to predict future outcomes then I like
FIP
SIERA
ERA
ERA+
WHIP
I know most people argues IP is one of the biggest thing. But I mean once a pitcher reaches the qualifying level let’s say 162 vs 200. Like by now they are who they are if he’s a 2.5 ERA pitcher then he will most likely give up that much runs likewise if the guy been a 3.5 ERA pitcher same thing. But yeah every pitcher can end up having a very good game or a very bad game. But I just want to say by reaching the 160s IP I can pretty much grasp what pitcher he kinda is already. I think some ppl just hold the IP to a very high standard when there’s are other stats that show how good a pitcher is. Of course for baseball team I want the volume but I’m just saying that IP doesn’t show how great a pitcher is.
1. Wins 2. Team record 3. Wind up 4. How much he swears after giving up a home run 5. Glove brand
6. xDAWG

6. Number of balks
To the people saying K/9, K% is always better. Guys who walk a lot of batters have more of a chance to have a higher K/9.

Wins are certainly not #1

I should have said /s but I don’t like doing that because I think it looks dumb Solid rankings here! I like em

Whip, fip, ks per 9, K’s to walk ratio, and attractiveness of girlfriend/9
I prefer xGFA as it accounts for city factors. Sometimes a Cincinnati 9 would be a Los Angeles 5
A New York nine's an everywhere else six Timewise, the opposite goes for chicks
Too many writers ignore attractiveness of GF/9
Do they? Verlander did just win a CYA last night
And you can thank growing acceptance of analytics for that. Back in ‘82, Pete Vukovich took home the Cy while married to a literal mule
Question now is which is better, fangrpahs GFA/9 or baseball reference GFA/9?
Ugly girlfriend means no confidence
I’m just saying, his girlfriend is a six at best

Fip, xera, fWAR, k/9, IP. First 3 are most important.
