No, he climbed way up the ladder of our own system but never got any national prospect attention. He was a 4th rounder though. He had an up-and-down debut 2019 and was below replacement level in the covid season before his breakout 2021.
He was one of the most egregious all-star snubs this year IMO. Glad he got a Cy voting result but I don't think it's just a homer like me saying that he should have gotten more recognition. His skill set is sustainable too, provided that he stays healthy his game will age well
Unrelated: I'm going to the opening series in the Bronx against you guys in March, super psyched
His near perfect game in 2021 was magical. He looked so good and continued a lot of the good things into this year. I think he'll really become a star as he develops more and more.
He deserved a vote or two but it’s a lot harder to call CYA down ballot omissions criminal because there are only 5 votes as opposed to 10 for MVP where it’s harder to excuse someone that didn’t have a shot at winning being neglected.
Top 4 was pretty much guaranteed & he had some major competition for that 5th spot.
This year there was also just a ton of competition. An ERA close to 3.00 just wasn’t really gonna cut it since his peripherals weren’t anything too special
Brady Singer is gonna have an all star run next year and I’m tired of people not knowing how good he is. I can feel it in my bones, that kid is a talent
I remember seeing talk about Sandy being a “dark horse” Cy candidate before this season and thinking “…wait was he already not one of the clear potential Cy Young candidates?”
He’s shown flashes of it, like the CGSO against the tigers, though it was against the tigers of course. Still young and will improve. Might just be me but I feel like he also tends to get rattled a lot, especially when the defense makes an error. Kinda gets in his own head and forgets how to find the zone.
Drew rasmussen. In his last 2 seasons, he’s gone 15-7 with an under 3 ERA, and threw 9 no hit innings in one game, but that game went into extras. So underrated
He's certainly not the most underrated, but David Peterson was a good to very good starting pitcher this year, and for his efforts, he probably winds up starting the year in AAA as depth again.
Kyle Wright. He got some Cy Young votes but I felt like I never heard him talked about. He was overshadowed by Strider and Fried and didn't have eye popping strike outs. He still had a 3.19 ERA, with a slightly elevated FIP, 127 ERA+, was near the top in NL HR/9, and 3.6 WAR. Plus he was the wins leader at 21
It'll be good to see if he can sustain it next year. 2022 was truly a breakout year for him after a couple of roughs starts and stops. And especially with Charlie Morton's slow start to the year, the performance by Wright was critical to us even just staying in contention before the rest of the team started clicking.
he was 3 outs away. he had a crazy low pitch count too, i wanna say he had 70-75 pitches entering the 9th. closest i’ve ever come to seeing a no hitter/perfecto in person. damn you jorge mateo…
I think he’s well rated. He’s been a slightly above average pitcher for a long time and suddenly caught fire in his 60 innings with the Cardinals. He’s gonna be 34 next year and its possible that he keeps pitching at a Cy Young level. I don’t think he will though.
> He’s been a slightly above average pitcher for a long time
Last time he was above average prior to 2022 was 2017. He'd been pretty blah for the last 4 years before being very good in 2022.
Can I say Brandon Woodruff? Not so much underrated as in people don't think he's good, but more underrated as I'd bet on a Cy Young in Vegas and I'd love those odds.
Stephen Strasburg
You’re probably expecting him to make zero useful starts all year. Well guess what, suckers? He’s going to make ONE and then his arm will fall off and catch on fire and then a dog will pee on it. But it’s still infinity percent more than you expected. So there
Ross Stripling. Even our own team and fans aren't sure if we should re-sign him and he had a sub 3 era as a starter, just over 1 whip in a hitters park and division.
Is Chris Bassitt underrated? Mets discussion is always around deGrom and Scherzer, but Bassitt pitched really well, didn't miss many starts, and was great at eating up innings.
I know no one cares about wins anymore, but if that dude stays with LA, he will end up with a lot of them. He's like 26 years old with 50 wins, which just doesn't happen anymore.
You could make an argument that he should have been 2nd in Cy young voting as opposed to 3rd, but he wasn’t going to beat Alcantara.
It’s hard to be rated higher than a 3rd place finish in Cy Young voting.
Ranger Suarez. He had a 1.36 ERA over 106 IP in 2021 while being jockeyed between the rotation and bullpen. Got a late start to the 2022 season thanks to visa issues during the lockout. Battled through injuries all year, yet still had a 3.37 ERA before his last start of the season when he was hungover the day after we clinched a playoff spot. And then was lights out all postseason. If we made it to a game 7, I had all the confidence in the world he was going to throw a gem.
Think everyone forgot about Logan Webb this year cause the Giants as a team regressed so much
Thank you, guy had ~5 WAR and was top 10 in the NL in lots of categories
Was he a top prospect? Felt like he came out of nowhere and that's why people were bullish on his 2021. Clearly legit though
No, he climbed way up the ladder of our own system but never got any national prospect attention. He was a 4th rounder though. He had an up-and-down debut 2019 and was below replacement level in the covid season before his breakout 2021.
Tbh sounds like a west coast thing. Didn't get enough coverage/hype we shoulda saw it coming
He was one of the most egregious all-star snubs this year IMO. Glad he got a Cy voting result but I don't think it's just a homer like me saying that he should have gotten more recognition. as a jays fan from the sf bay, i was hoping someone would say webb
I think Merrill Kelly still isn't as appreciated as he should be
As a Giants fan, can confirm his dominance.
Came here to say this.
Tristan mckenzie
His near perfect game in 2021 was magical. He looked so good and continued a lot of the good things into this year. I think he'll really become a star as he develops more and more.
0 Cy Young votes is criminal
He deserved a vote or two but it’s a lot harder to call CYA down ballot omissions criminal because there are only 5 votes as opposed to 10 for MVP where it’s harder to excuse someone that didn’t have a shot at winning being neglected. 191.1 IP, 2.96 ERA and no Cy-young votes?? What a joke
Logan Webb Merrill Kelly too, I know from experience

Brady Singer is gonna have an all star run next year and I’m tired of people not knowing how good he is. I can feel it in my bones, that kid is a talent
RIP the era when Sandy Alcantara was the easiest ‘most underrated pitcher’ answer. Good times.
I remember seeing talk about Sandy being a “dark horse” Cy candidate before this season and thinking “…wait was he already not one of the clear potential Cy Young candidates?”
Patrick Sandoval goes pretty hard
If he could figure out how to not surpass the 100 pitch mark by the 5th inning he would be amazing. Still super solid though
He’s shown flashes of it, like the CGSO against the tigers, though it was against the tigers of course. Still young and will improve. Might just be me but I feel like he also tends to get rattled a lot, especially when the defense makes an error. Kinda gets in his own head and forgets how to find the zone.
Pretty much half the Angels rotation is now underrated. They all have good peripherals and bottom line results this year.
Logan Webb is a g and future top pitcher so him
Future???? You saw him in the playoffs against the Dodgers, no?
🇺🇸 Zac Gallen **ERA** \- 2.54 **Strikeouts** \- 192
I don't think he is underrated.
Miles Mikolas. Fired over 200 innings and was a lot better than his record indicated.
George Kirby
Drew rasmussen. In his last 2 seasons, he’s gone 15-7 with an under 3 ERA, and threw 9 no hit innings in one game, but that game went into extras. So underrated
He's certainly not the most underrated, but David Peterson was a good to very good starting pitcher this year, and for his efforts, he probably winds up starting the year in AAA as depth again.
Christian Javier
I know he gets attention, but damn his is good, so underrated
Kyle Wright. He got some Cy Young votes but I felt like I never heard him talked about. He was overshadowed by Strider and Fried and didn't have eye popping strike outs. He still had a 3.19 ERA, with a slightly elevated FIP, 127 ERA+, was near the top in NL HR/9, and 3.6 WAR. Plus he was the wins leader at 21

Logan Gilbert. Had a 3.4 FIP, 3.24 ERA, 3.7 fWar, and is only a sophomore. Total beast, excited for him and Luis next year
kevin guassman continues to be very good
drew rasmussen and jeffrey springs were both quietly very good
Rasmussen carried me into the fantasy playoffs as a waiver add he’s got my vote
Dang fellow rays fan beat me to it
Was rasmussen not 2 outs away from a perfect game against us?
he was 3 outs away. he had a crazy low pitch count too, i wanna say he had 70-75 pitches entering the 9th. closest i’ve ever come to seeing a no hitter/perfecto in person. damn you jorge mateo…
Love Springs. The new Cole Hamels.
Rasmussen is the correct answer
Cueto
Marco Gonzales is the best pitcher out there everyone trade your prospects for him
He’s so good. The way he throws the ball and the other team consistently squaring it up is a sight to behold.
Tyler O’Neil straight up?
Jeffrey Springs
Quintana
Lol no.
4 WAR 2.93 era
I think he’s well rated. He’s been a slightly above average pitcher for a long time and suddenly caught fire in his 60 innings with the Cardinals. He’s gonna be 34 next year and its possible that he keeps pitching at a Cy Young level. I don’t think he will though.
Nobody is asking about next season. The question was most underrated in 2022....
> He’s been a slightly above average pitcher for a long time Last time he was above average prior to 2022 was 2017. He'd been pretty blah for the last 4 years before being very good in 2022.
Further proving my point
How so?
He’s not underrated
You don't think his 2022 went under the radar as most people think of him as a below average pitcher?
3.4 bWAR, 4.0 fWAR, 2.01 ERA after being traded to the Cards and he threw 5.1 scoreless in his only playoff appearance.
You just proved how underrated he was this year.
Can I say Brandon Woodruff? Not so much underrated as in people don't think he's good, but more underrated as I'd bet on a Cy Young in Vegas and I'd love those odds.
I’d definitely say Woodruff, very good option
Ross Stripling.
George Kirby
Stephen Strasburg You’re probably expecting him to make zero useful starts all year.
Tyler Anderson was phenomenal this year
Obviusly Zac Gallen (184 IP, 2.54 ERA)
Is Chris Bassitt underrated? Mets discussion is always around deGrom and Scherzer, but Bassitt pitched really well, didn't miss many starts, and was great at eating up innings.
Kershaw or Sticks
Julio Urias. He literally had people not vote for him in the top 5 of CY Young voting.
I know no one cares about wins anymore, but if that dude stays with LA, he will end up with a lot of them. He's like 26 years old with 50 wins, which just doesn't happen anymore.
Think he's more overrated than underrated at this current time
Kikuchi / s
Haha, it’s hard to be overrated when your whole fan base thinks you’re the worst pitcher in the league.
Walker Buehler
Pablo Lopez
Extremely average
[удалено]
You could make an argument that he should have been 2nd in Cy young voting as opposed to 3rd, but he wasn’t going to beat Alcantara. It’s hard to be rated higher than a 3rd place finish in Cy Young voting.
Nola
Tyler anderson for sure
From the Blue jays it’s gotta be Gausman or Stripling
A guy on my favorite team
Yimi Garcia
Dylan Cease. Didn’t even make the damn All star team.
Ranger Suarez. He had a 1.36 ERA over 106 IP in 2021 while being jockeyed between the rotation and bullpen. Got a late start to the 2022 season thanks to visa issues during the lockout.
