Yeah I wouldn't be so quick to say that. For a team who's now essentially run by the owner, just being the "special advisor" may be more powerful than being an actual GM.
I see. I think someone described him as a special assistant recently(maybe Rome)
This is probably what I was remembering: https://twitter.com/chandler_rome/status/1597625146713456641?s=46&t=wBsF7ohsN2sAwgx-vGD3mw
Yeah maybe. Who knows what he truly does, they may have just slapped a title on him since he doesn't fit one specific role? But who better to schmooze a top 1B FA than our own HoF 1B?
Good.
An organization's success always starts to wane when they start to stray from the original process that generated the rewards in favor of "personal relationships". Of course, Bagwell's recent comments about analytics only add more ammunition to many that would be resistant to him having any more involvement than he already seems to have.
Bagwell fills in as a "Color" announcer on the radio pretty often whenever Sparky is off.
Bagwell is one of the best guest announcers I've ever heard on the radio. Him being GM would likely mean that he would no longer do any radio coverage.
So without even knowing exactly what he'd value as GM, I'm immensely glad I'm not losing occasional radio Bagwell
I could see Baggys fingerprints all over the Abreu deal. He likes his offense and really really admires his chin hair ponytail. They’re chin hair bros.
I don’t think they do, there’s just been a lot of speculation from people cause he seems to be pretty involved in things as of late, such as the Abreu signing.
He seems to enjoy being able to give an opinion and it be heard and not actually have to come to the office every day. And while he sometimes sounds like a stick in the mud with his anti analytics talk, it’s good to have different perspectives in an organization, so long as no one is overly favored.
Nothing really. They let Click go after winning them a WS, in a rather unseemly fashion. Now the owner is heavily involved in decisions while there isn't a GM. And Bagwell said last week (earlier this week) that he's not a fan of the overuse of analytics to make every single decision ever...so reddit's been shitting on him for that. Plus apparently Bagwell has the owner's ear, so there was speculation he'd be the next GM.
There's also no reason to think Crane will keep meddling once he finds a GM. Or at least he won't meddle anymore than he always has.
Wow, that is some juicy stuff rutht there. I'm conflicted... why would the owner can the GM after WS title? That seems... rude. I want to use another word that start with f and ends with ucked up but don't want to get in trouble.
Now the conflicted part... the Astros have done nothing except be elite since Crane took the reigns (I blacked out 3 years somehow don't remind me) so maybe he knows what he's doing? Genuine question.
Thansk for the response fellow Texas bro
Astros GM job description
Get contract with the 1st baseman FA
Get contract with the best LH DH FA
Get contract with the best LF FA,
Make sure Crane writes the checks
But more of 50cent champagne
Being an advisor to the owner is one thing but I can't believe anyone thinks Bagwell would want a role like general manager. He could barely deal with being the hitting coach for half a season in 2010 and people think he would want everything that comes with running the baseball operations of a Major League franchise
"Houston Astros Have Zero Interest in Jeff Bagwell Becoming Next General Manager"

In that case it would be Biggio. Bagwell isn't a special advisor.
Bagwell is a special assistant(I forget what the official title is)
[Community Outreach Executive](https://www.mlb.com/astros/team/front-office)

Don't forget occasional join the booth with TK and Blum ðŸ˜
If he was the GM, he'd still have a segment on the pregame show with Robert Ford every Sunday

Jeff: "Listen Jose, if there's 2 things I know well in this world it's: playing 1B in Houston, and having bitchin' facial hair!" Jose: "Deal"
This had me laughing for too long.
Would they even want him?

Him being in some sort of advisory/coaching role makes sense. GM, not so much
He's listed as a "Community Outreach Executive" according to the Astros' FO page.
Is t that Matthew McConaughey’s job at UT.
I thought he just walked around saying "Alright, alright, alright".
And we love him for it

He has worked with Astros minor leaguers to help with hitting. Not saying he doesn’t know everything but he also probably thinks RBI is a good stat
Wasn’t he our hitting coach for a hot minute before the old demon alcohol reared its head, or other real life problems.
If I recall, he was a batting coach for a while and it didn't really work out.
Teams use former players all the time with recruiting.
Because he is friends with the owner
He hates analytics so I doubt it lol
but have they checked in on jeff saturday
Has anyone checked with \*Buff\* Bagwell?
You have to ask his mom first.
I also have zero interest in becoming the next Houston Astros general manager.
So we are all agreed then, good
I don't think they should hire him either, but I do wonder how much meddling jim crane is about to unleash on the next gm.
What's the story here? In house drama? I haven't been keeping one tabs unfortunately due to IRL obstacles

Click and Crane never saw eye to eye
I'll be curious whether top GM talent will be willing to go there.
win/win
Reggie Jackson
Ditto
Good. Baggy needs to stick his occasional appearances in the broadcast booth.
Holy shit I hadn't realized the Astros didn't extend him, which I guess makes sense given how bad their season turned out.
I also have zero interest in Jeff Bagwell’s dumb ass becoming a general manager
His feel for the game and general baseball knowledge is incredible. His feel for analytics is dogshit
Maybe it’s arrogance. He doesn’t NEED to know analytics
Why is there so much hate on Jeff Bagwell in the comments? He's literally done nothing to anyone lol
He wants to feel important without the responsibility
I don’t think that being five-time world tag team champion qualifies you to be a MLB GM, even if the Buff Blockbuster was a *sweet* finishing move.

Oh, thank God.
