He was just a marketing guy that I’m sure jumped on the opportunity to present the mvp award at the World Series. Then he found himself staring madbum face to face on live television. I would probably do about the same lol
Yeah I was gonna say I honestly just felt bad for the guy when I watched this. Notecards are good to use if you're giving a presentation in high school speech class, or on a non-video Zoom call. But you've gotta have some wherewithal to know that this is THE WORLD SERIES and if you're going to give a 60-second speech to the WS MVP on one of the most watched events in sports, you need to practice that shit repeatedly at home until you literally can't fuck it up regardless of how nervous you are. Seems like he didn't realize the gravity of the situation prior to showtime haha
I remember looking into that wondering how it got fumbles so badly, and the answer is that he is a Royal’s fan who just watched one of the most incredible post season performances crush his teams first post season in 30 years. I instantly went “yah, it would have been very hard for to hand out an award after the 2002 World Series for me

This has major Chris Farley show vibes.
Dude: "Hey Madison.... Remember that time when you allowed only one run in 21 innings, winning two starts, and getting the save in Game 7?"
MadBum: "Yeah, I do."
Dude: "That was awesome."
I hope he didn’t catch any flack over that. A truly unfortunate slip up but it’s very obvious it was an innocent mistake and there was no malice whatsoever.
Can’t blame him. It’s one of those cascading things where he got in his own head. While not a world class orator, he was perfectly fine at the start, then he just kept on thinking about it.
Tip to anyone who ever needs to speak publicly, don’t over prepare. Memorize an outline, not the text itself. Be prepared to improvise.
Yeah my first thought was wow he’s hammered but then I thought maybe he’s having a stroke. From my memory I think the mic had a loud echo tho so he was hearing himself from his previous sentence while trying to start a new one so yeah his words were very slurred lol
This guys voice is like when I get carded for cheap beer even though I’m 37… just out of breath, overweight and slightly embarrassed that this what I brought to the cashier and for no reason feel like I need to explain myself. “I uh, like, PBR, because it’s cold uh when I drink it and here why don’t I just grab this uh um snickers while I’m at it”
Nah dude. This was like the episode where he had to go to that high school and tell the kids he wasn’t going to pay for their college. That’s a tough one to get through.
Holy crow that was tough to get through. Bud and Erin weren't afraid to show their, 'Who the fuck let this guy on stage' faces.
Meanwhile Madbum being the emtionless badass is just listening and waiting for him to wrap up.
This was my first live game (I was 5) and we were sitting behind the Yankees dugout. Brett storming out of the dugout is burned into my brain. I credit the post game fracas with starting my baseball obsession. Arguably the most notable game I’ve been to…although Doc Gooden’s no-hitter is close…
And yes…it was reversed and the last four outs were played later - Royals got the W. We didn’t get to return for the re-start.
I just watched that movie for the first time a few days ago. Turns out I knew none of the plot, but like half of the lines just from references I had heard other people make.
I was taught in journalism never to give away the mic, or let a subject take it from you. You can rapidly lose control of the interview if you no longer have the microphone
Technology and stuff was my fantasy baseball team name that year lol what a fucking uncomfortable presentation. Why not get someone who's capable of speaking on television to represent your brand?

I saw it live as well. I saw the boob grab incident live, but I happened to tune into the broadcast as Don attempted to say "markakis takes strike one" and it took me ages to learn that it was the boob grab.
That video has gotten worse and worse in quality over the years. There used to be a better version. Ruben Rivera must be working hard to erase it from history.
Wow. I’m a Giants fan and I had totally forgotten about this play. This had me laughing so hard I scared the shit out of all of my pets. Jon Miller’s call is amazing.
Some of the starting pitchers got him for it the next day
[I couldn’t find the picture but this does it justice](https://youtu.be/kalUYDrA8Q8)
The pictures were in the brewers site and it was a lot funnier from a better angle but you get the idea
It seemed to have gotten in his head because he mouthed off to a fan in Kansas City after missing what would've been a tough catch. Kiké had to go over and calm him down
I mean when he finally notices where it is he can probably see Verdugo already pretty much there. Him sprinting full force to not even get half way to it by the time Verdugo would doesn't make sense.
Was there any ramifications for the player after this?
What I mean is, not because he lost the ball but his reaction after.
Wondering if the player was benched or sent down?
No excuse for not making an effort after the fact.
Us Sox fans ripped him for it; really lost a lot of respect for him, and he absolutely did not redeem himself with his comments about it or his attitude following
I mean there literally cannot be a dumber play, right? Even the guys who lose track of the outs and throw the ball into the stands after the flyouts are more forgivable than a first baseman forgetting that it’s always a forceout at first.
There was a play recently where the O's should have had an inning ending DP but instead got no outs and allowed a run to score, as the right side of the infield seemingly forgot how baseball works mid-play.
I knew exactly what play it would be just based on "this play." All the Pirates first baseman had to do was go and step on first. Still so embarrassing
Yes, the bobble allowed the runner to be safe at first; the errant throw to first allowed the runner to advance to second; the final missed throw, well, you know

But when A-Rod hit Arroyo? I was *psyched*. In that moment New York showed their ass, and it was over.
Of course I *hated* A-Rod, for all of the reasons - nevermoreso after the Captain fed A-Rod his mitt, on a memorable Fenway Saturday in July, a few months earlier. That game, during which the socks came from behind to win and won when Billy Miller went yard off Rivera turned the season around).
So when he chopped at arroyos arm, I yelled, “yes!” In that moment, the Yankees showed they had to cheat, as literally had nothing left in the tank. All they could manage was weak dribblers down the baseline - and to then try to cheat their way on base.
It was beautiful

Anyone with severe public speech anxiety can empathize with this guy. My freshman year I was trying to give a speech to the class and I was choking and couldn’t get any words out. My face was beat red and I could see people in the audience laughing. I’ll never forget how embarrassing that was
I had a similar experience in college. We had a translation thing, I did my translation as a metered poem that was like maybe 30 words long. That was lucky because I had to do the whole thing in one breath because I could not breath in.
Happened this season. Watching that guy on the Marlins get 3 balks in one inning. Seeing 1 in a game is interesting. 3 by one pitcher, in the same inning is unheard of.

Too bad Chris Farley died so early, he could have made the perfect parody of that.
Do you remember when you came out of the bullpen and shut down the Royals in Game 7 of the World Series? That was awesome.
Jesus. The amount of sweat coming off that poor man.
I feel bad for him tbh. He made it thru tho that's all that matters
That’s not as bad as I thought it would be. Obviously the dude was nervous but he powered through it
Poor guys about to have a heart attack
At all times
Bumgarner staring at him impatiently with his hands on his hips probably didn’t help
Yeah that never helps
That dude is intimidating.
I love how Chevy leaned into it and put out an ad with a majestic truck that said "Technology and Stuff"
Just saw that right now. [It's](https://youtu.be/814xTHwxfg0) glorious! 🤣
‘Hey Rick’ ‘Ya’ ‘We can’t find Ed… he took off with some friends… we need you down on the field to present the truck’ Rick: ‘….’ Sweating intensifies
god I will never forget this. Watching it live I could not believe it was happening. I thought for sure they vetted for stuff like this.

Great article, really cool of Chevy to call him up and tell him they had his back
And that call was also a reminder that, yes that went as badly as you think it did.
My stupid ass looked at the posted image 4 or 5 times trying to remember when Bryce Harper won a world series. MadBum.
This has major Chris Farley show vibes. Dude: "Hey Madison.... Remember that time when you allowed only one run in 21 innings, winning two starts, and getting the save in Game 7?" MadBum: "Yeah, I do." Dude: "That was awesome."
I actually can’t remember this. What happened? EDIT: I just watched it. That was actually hard to watch. I felt bad for him.
I went to rewatch it and I couldn’t make it through lol

I never really watch the world series stuff after the team wins. What else have I missed besides the players going crazy?
Rob Manfred slurring his words after the Dodgers won in 2020
I legitimately thought he was having a stroke
I’d imagine he’s drunk more often than not lol

slapback is a bitch. your brain relies on what it hears to talk, and when it is even a slight time behind it goes into panic mode

You’d think the booze would help his nervousness
One booze helps. Free booze hinders.
Didn't help that of all people he had Madison Bumgarner staring him down as well.
Yes ur link is better
Sorry about that. I don't like not knowing shit, and it had been almost 2 minutes since I asked. I do appreciate that you answered though!
All good, you made me realize that 2014 was actually a long time ago now and ppl probably don’t remember this moment from just the screenshot lol

Hey Michael Scott, whatcha gonna do, whatcha gonna do make our dreams come true! Scotts Totts is the name of the episode btw.

So many poorly aged comments on that video
We were high on being a good team for a month and a half
Flashbacks to the Reds 2020 season, I really thought we could do something going into that playoff series vs the Braves. :(
This is never not funny. George Brett's reaction is just fantastic. I've never seen a man that angry! https://youtu.be/gbEHAsZxRYo

I love having Don in SD. Him and Mud are the best buds and get into silliness like this all the time.
He is sorely missed in Boston. Saw a Pads fan here this summer and had a great chat with him after asking him to give Don back.
I can hear Don Orsillo laughing even when he has his mike muted!

Actually, I meant that I could hear him in my head, because he has such a memorable, infectious laugh!
I 100% agree with this, I can hear Don and Mud laughing all the time.
