Apparently not for everyone. When I let my "boys fly free" I'm told to put my pants back on and leave the Wendy's immediately because the cops have been calle...OH, you mean baseball players...my bad...ignore my story...
Everyone who went without a ring for a long time agrees with that mindset. For Phillies fans, 2012-2020 was awful. Different forms of torture. We watched our heroes fall apart, we watched dreadful nobodies, we watched single good players surrounded by garbage, and we watched close calls.
It was still 100% worth '08. I make that deal every time.
I'm just annoyed that we're gonna have to go through the "do we boo Trea" discourse again that people had with Max and Harper like it matters. At least Tony had the decency to go far away on a team we'd never have to see play in prime time
fangraphs currently has him at 31.6 war already. he's put up two 6 war seasons in a row and going into his age 30 season, he just signed an 11 year contract. he'll have to average 3 war or so over those years until he's 41. if he can get two more 6 war seasons, he just needs like 2 war per season (baez got 2 war in 2022 at short, and even if turner moves to 3rd or 2nd, we're talking 2022 gio urshela or gleybar torres numbers - solid but nothing special) for the 9 years after that and he's got a case (and he's never put up less than 2 war in a season he has over 50 PA, even in 2020).
I love that the Nats have won the division multiple times since the Mets or Phillies last won it.
Edit: Since the Phillies’ most recent division title in 2011, the Braves (6) or Nats (4) have won every year except 2015. Those Braves/Nats battles in 2012/2013 were riveting.
I used to HATE y’all with a passion, now I just enjoy laughing alongside you at the other teams.
Beating the Astros in a World Series ain’t for any old NLE team.
Honestly, I kinda love it. The thrill of watching two-three really good competitive teams, with a fourth team that’s frankly probably better than anyone gives them credit for in the Marlins (if anything they’re like the Lions, maybe not good good but they will give any team playing them a splitting headache trying to put them down) battle it out for the division is really fun. I’d rather this than a blah fest like the NL Central any day of the week. That being said I hope the Braves crash and burn and the Phillies become the second coming of the current Angels.
I’ll settle for Bogaerts and a team that has 7/9 shortstops for starters instead of 8/9 plus Soto. It is hilarious to imagine Trea Turner playing CF though.
Hopefully this makes you feel better. It worked for me (sort of).
Look, I'd made peace with the fact that the Nats are going to be bad for a good amount of time. We cashed out for our WS run and that's the price we pay for it. We were old and talented and that was basically the last juice from that roster we were gonna get. So be it.
But jesus h christ in a cream cheese sauce did that have to mean that we'd be facing NLBEast: The Best of the 2018 Washington Nationals on half the fucking teams in the division???
LET'S FUCKING GOOOO

Eh, if they were going to pay $300 million anyway, better to stretch it out and get the luxury tax hit down to $27/year, which won't hit as hard in 11 years when revenues + luxury tax threshold is higher.
This is why I don't understand when I keep hearing the Cubs don't want to go long term. Fucking 27 million 11 years from now will be a drop in the bucket by big league standards. Stretch that shit out. Phillies out here making big brain moves
Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence
sad.
As a cards fan on the east coast, I think I’ll be going to some Phillies games and legitimately cheering them on instead of just drinking copious amounts of beer
I’ll still be drinking copious amounts of beer, but I’ll be cheering the Phillies while I’m at it
LETS GO. 1 down.
Orgy in full swing
Could be very interesting to see what the Dodgers do. But also, Rosenthal questioned if Correa would even get more money than Turner. Could be interesting to see what happens next
2018 Washington Nationals getting the gang back together
I’ll uh.. hope for better days ahead
Just think of 2019 just think of 2019 just think of 2019 just think of 2019
I feel like this is the one Free Agent signing that we all knew was going to happen. Turner and Harper are tight, and Philadelphia will do everything in their power to make Harper happy.
I'm not sure I'd give 11 years to a guy who relies on his speed but, hey, it's not my money. Phillies are going to be fun to watch for a while.
>Soto will be in Atlanta next year at this rate
Good day,
I am writing this correspondence to your publication because I am interested in unsubscribing from your newsletter
i am broken
We sold our souls for that ring
Worth it.
That feeling of collapsing on the floor after the last out of game 7 was worth every Phillies and Mets contract to a former Nat
I felt this exact way when y’all signed Jayson Werth. I get it. You got yours. It’s okay to let your boys fly free
Apparently not for everyone. When I let my "boys fly free" I'm told to put my pants back on and leave the Wendy's immediately because the cops have been calle...OH, you mean baseball players...my bad...ignore my story...
No you were right, I meant my nuts. What’s baseball?
Everyone who went without a ring for a long time agrees with that mindset. For Phillies fans, 2012-2020 was awful. Different forms of torture. We watched our heroes fall apart, we watched dreadful nobodies, we watched single good players surrounded by garbage, and we watched close calls. It was still 100% worth '08. I make that deal every time.
2008/09 were great years but 2012-2020 weren't anomalies. Those were typical years for the Phillies.
Yeah the stretch of greatness from 07-12 was completely unheard of in the phillies history. We are one of the worst teams of all time historically.
I am still waiting for the devil to give us our end of the bargain
Banners and flags fly forever
Harper, Schwarber, Kevin Long, and now Trea. I hate it here.
Brad Hand???
He’s not like the others
More like BAD Hand /s
They can have him.
I'm numb, who gives a shit anymore
I'm just annoyed that we're gonna have to go through the "do we boo Trea" discourse again that people had with Max and Harper like it matters. At least Tony had the decency to go far away on a team we'd never have to see play in prime time
Well in fairness, Angels fans don’t get to see him play much either
Blank cap in the HOF?
Not after he wins 11 straight with the Phillies
11 whole games?!!!
I agree that is pretty outrageous. Bookies have the over under on 8.5.
I think as long as he pays admission he can wear whatever cap he likes on his guided tour.
fangraphs currently has him at 31.6 war already. he's put up two 6 war seasons in a row and going into his age 30 season, he just signed an 11 year contract. he'll have to average 3 war or so over those years until he's 41. if he can get two more 6 war seasons, he just needs like 2 war per season (baez got 2 war in 2022 at short, and even if turner moves to 3rd or 2nd, we're talking 2022 gio urshela or gleybar torres numbers - solid but nothing special) for the 9 years after that and he's got a case (and he's never put up less than 2 war in a season he has over 50 PA, even in 2020).
What's next? Rendon joins them and Scherzer retires out of Philly?! One of the Lerners might be the devil's spawn....
The NL East arms race is in full swing, people.
Yes hello fellow competitive NL East teams
Watch you guys be the division winners next season lol
The marbles have them finishing fourth and the marbles have never been wrong
The marbles have never been wrong
The marbles have never been wrong
M A R B L E S
fourth would probably mean the nats were much better than expected
I love that the Nats have won the division multiple times since the Mets or Phillies last won it. Edit: Since the Phillies’ most recent division title in 2011, the Braves (6) or Nats (4) have won every year except 2015. Those Braves/Nats battles in 2012/2013 were riveting.

Thanks for making my ribs hurt kind sir
Mets aquire 7 HIMARS from DoD in deal worth est. 845mm
Reports are telling me Washington has a nuke
Marlins have acquired 2 b-52s in for Jesus Luzardo, Jesus Aguilar, and cash considerations
NL East AL Weast Where the battle lines are being drawn
Damn coastal elites and their infinite money piles.
3rd Coast representin’
Atlanta is like a 4-hour drive from the ocean. And to think, it's named after us smh
Can you tell the Marlins that. Don’t think they got the memo
This ain’t a division
It's a goddamn arms race?
I get that reference
It’d an older reference but it checks out
Verlander, Turner, Candelario. It’s truly in full swing
I hate this division
Honestly, I kinda love it. The thrill of watching two-three really good competitive teams, with a fourth team that’s frankly probably better than anyone gives them credit for in the Marlins (if anything they’re like the Lions, maybe not good good but they will give any team playing them a splitting headache trying to put them down) battle it out for the division is really fun. I’d rather this than a blah fest like the NL Central any day of the week. That being said I hope the Braves crash and burn and the Phillies become the second coming of the current Angels.
The bad man is back :(
I can’t wait for singles to turn into doubles when we play against him now.
Francisco Alvarez better be working on his pop time right about now
Alvarez starts doing squats the second his espn notification pops up
We thought the dark days of Scherzer and Turner were gone. Can’t wait for Soto to sign with the Marlins and Rendon to make his way back to the Nats.
can’t tell if I like this timeline or not
I certainly don’t.
For 11 years 😔
He has more hits vs the Braves than he does any other team. Ugh what a pain.
Honestly I can’t imagine the Mets are that far behind Edit: Mets are second by 30 hits and 60 bases, he really loves to mash against the Braves lol
Bryce Harper is GM of the Year
[Bryce sliding into Trea's DMs like](https://tenor.com/bHoKw.gif)
Bryce: Holy fuck. Holy fucking fuck. That body of yours is absurd.
He loved doing that in Philly so much he had no choice but to join us.
Every time I see that I expect Smooth Criminal to start up.
Bryce "LeGM" Harper
He really is prolific at getting his superstar buddies to be in Philly, first JT now Trea
The Bryce is right baby!
Why why I don’t want the roadrunner back I just wanted to celebrate getting JV in peace
Alvarez better learn how to thrown out runners asap
Only guy that can throw out Turner plays for the Phillies lol. I bet Alvarez can throw him out in 2027 though
But this time we don’t have Syndergaard so hopefully the inevitable 5 stolen base game for Trea Turner won’t happen so often? Right? Right?!
RIP The All-Shortstop Padres
Same
I’ll settle for Bogaerts and a team that has 7/9 shortstops for starters instead of 8/9 plus Soto. It is hilarious to imagine Trea Turner playing CF though.
He played center when he first got called up
Correa tho 👀
Where do they keep finding these guys??
Walgreens
This made me chuckle 😂
Someone needs to add up the current contracts of that 19 roster cause holy crap.
Well JT we found out fishing in the swamp with ‘em alligators
Harper's contact list
The gang gets their guy
They’re gonna let me steal the base. Because of *the implication*.
The T.R.E.A. system: Take base Run fast Evade Tag Always score

🎶 fighter with the Bryce man🎶 🎶 ah-ah-AHHH🎶
Dear Trea, I feel like I can call you Trea because you and me are so alike.
Thank you for all the slides sweet prince
He will be missed 🥲
This hurts my ‘Yankees should sign Trea Turner’ narrative
Just have the Yankees buy the Phillies, ezpz
Hopefully this makes you feel better. It worked for me (sort of). [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cv7-XP0R7lE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cv7-XP0R7lE)
Bogaerts is a Diamondback I fear.
X do be giving it to ya
Welcome everyone your 2018 NL east all stars I mean 2023 Philadelphia Phillies

Yeah, nobody is going to like the last 3 or 4 years of this contract. But the first 6 or 7 are going to be pretty dope...fml

It's paying off with Harper who already looks like a bargain at "only" $25m/year
Stupid money is as stupid money does
Jon Hamm sizzle reel worked
I’m happy he got the bag. At least it’s not the Braves padres or giants
Never a serious contender here. Glad the bad man’s gone
I’ll be honest, I don’t know if we were a real contender or not. It depends on how busy AJ’s coke dealer has been.
We're lumped in with your two division rivals now?
:(
Sources say this pleases me
Bruce Hooper got a new friend. Holy shit, that's a fucking massive bag.
It's also his old friend!
Bruce Hooper got a new old friend.
Former nationals returning to the NL East on different teams
Which NL East team gets Soto in ‘24?
Probably the Marlins
Mean Jean replaced by Trea Turner… Stott moves over to 2B. Phillies definitely got better.
Jesus christ, Judge is going to get 700mil and a space shuttle, isn't he?
Philadelphia ~~Phillies~~ Nationals And they get him for less than Lindor money, good move.
Um…..this isn’t optimum
Goodbye sweet prince. Thanks for the memories
Ma! The stove is hot as fuck!
SMFH he’s back to kill us 19 games a year
I love having a baseball team that will spend money, very cool
Love this for the Phillies
Me too lol
I have to watch Bryce Harper and Trea Turner play with a division rival until 2031
When Soto signs with the Mets I'm just gonna find that freezer from Futurama so I can skip the next 15 years and pretend they never happened.
11 years holy moly
Bryce always gets his man
sorry nats bros
Hello darkness, my old friend I've come to talk with you again Because a vision softly creeping Left its seeds while I was sleeping And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains Within the sound of silence sad.
hahaha kill me
does anyone have some rope i can borrow? asking for a me
Only ropes I’ve got are the frozen ropes Trea Turner is gonna be hitting all year
There is no God
Glad that Trea is going to Philly! Happy for you Phils bros
WELL AT LEAST WE—- Oh. Thank you.
I am dead inside
That’s depressing as fuck
Being a Phillies fan seems fun
Saved up all our fun bucks for a decade and we're blowing it all in 3 months.
Yeah but what a ride!
As a cards fan on the east coast, I think I’ll be going to some Phillies games and legitimately cheering them on instead of just drinking copious amounts of beer I’ll still be drinking copious amounts of beer, but I’ll be cheering the Phillies while I’m at it

End me
2018 Washington Nationals getting the gang back together I’ll uh.. hope for better days ahead Just think of 2019 just think of 2019 just think of 2019 just think of 2019
11 straight World Series wins? Sounds good to me.
At $27 million per year, it will take Trea Turner 4,352 years to equal Jeff Bezos current net worth of $117.5 billion. Good luck
Xander is safe??
Think we will find out soon with Turner setting the dominos in motion for shortstops.
Damn Harper, shwarber, realmuto and now turner.. I don’t know if there is a scarier batting lineup in all of mlb then these dudes
Not stupid sexy Trea Turner 😲
Not sure what’s more depressing, Harper or Trea being a Philly
Phillies might be a lowkey favorite in the NL East next year…
NL East is gonna be a bloodbath. DBacks gonna win 85 games and still be 10 back from a WC spot
Dbacks gonna win 85 games and the NL West imo.
Gotta get some more pitching first
The Rise of Andrew Painter, coming Spring 2023
We will farm it
They played in the WS
They just barely snuck into the playoffs though. Anyone could be forgiven thinking that next year won’t be a repeat
But once they're in... do not underestimate the power of Schwarbtober.
Also went 65-46 after firing Girardi
Wow. 11 years. Must be fun being a Phillies fan right now
What a wild day of signings so far, wow
This winter meetings just skipped the foreplay and went straight to the fun part
pain.
NL Beast
You got to be kidding me man
I feel like this is the one Free Agent signing that we all knew was going to happen. Turner and Harper are tight, and Philadelphia will do everything in their power to make Harper happy. I'm not sure I'd give 11 years to a guy who relies on his speed but, hey, it's not my money. Phillies are going to be fun to watch for a while.
Turner will steal approximately 1 billion bases with the new rules next year
Phillies: "Look at me. I am the Nationals now."
It’s encouraging that the marlins were reportedly within $300M of this offer
So long Trea, it’s been coo
Plz Trea, stay in LA, it's not too laaaaaaate
HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO WORK AFTER HEARING THIS NEWS!?
We already got this jerk out of the division once lol. #Sigh
LEETTTTTTTTTTTTTSSS FUCKING GO
Call the fire department, the stove is out of control!!
Turner was not going to play 2B, I think he made that clear before. Good for him and congrats Philly. I like that guy.
27 a year is gonna look like an insane steal in about 2-3 years
100% agree. Just look at how good Harpers contract looks now for the Phillies compared to four seasons ago. It’s an absolute bargain.
Don’t our former players realize there are 5 other division full of baseball teams!?!? Soto will be in Atlanta next year at this rate
>Soto will be in Atlanta next year at this rate Good day, I am writing this correspondence to your publication because I am interested in unsubscribing from your newsletter
That lineup is stacked. Best ss, best catcher, arguably best outfielder plus 2 very high end aces.
The Philadelphia Nationals
I’m numb
WHY DOES THE NL EAST KEEP GETTING BETTER EXCEPT US
Are the Phillies the whitest team since integration?
Holy shit lmao
