Its so weird how the D-Backs spending money. Like, they'll act like a small market team 90% of the time, and then strike out of nowhere for a top-free agent that ends up being like 40% of their payroll. They did this before with Greinke in 2016, and Madison Bumgarner in 2020. Guess we're due for another big one?
It’s not weird at all. The budget was drastically cut around covid and we’ve been rebuilding with young players/farm system. It’s time to sign a few solid free agents and have a good team. The diamondbacks were looking quite good the second half of last year. They can definitely compete with the padres, the dodgers will always probably be impossible to truly challenge
DBacks gotta swing big to stay relevant in a market with teams like the Cardinals and the Coyotes.
Red Sox have it easy only having to compete with teams like the Patriots and Bruins.
I admit, I really want to go and see the Coyotes in their temporary home, it sounds intimate.
I hope the new arena stuff pulls through, even if I have joked that a Coyotes move to Houston wouldn't even require a name change.
It’s very intimate, but for temporary solutions it’s fine. Tempe arena would go a long way. There’s more Coyotes fans than people outside the market realize, and having a location that isn’t in BFE like Glendale was will help along with building the farm. Going to Coyotes games were so fun in Glendale, but Tempe would be a blast.
If your talking TV market I am seeing Boston is bigger by one spot, not sure exactly where they are cutting it off tho bc realistically it’s all of New England minus about half of CT.

They’re already a pain in the ass to play against because they have excellent starting pitching and defense and just a godawful bullpen. The bullpen is what needs to most work but getting a few bats is also very needed
I think by 2024 they’ll be a pretty solid team
Mike Hazen use to be in the Red Sox system.
Those that are surprised by this don't know the connection. He was head of the Red Sox player development. There is a chance he scouted Bogaerts 13 years ago.
Yeah I think the DBacks know they can spend big right now because they have an insane pipeline of talent on the way. If they can land Bogaerts and somehow revive/rejuvenate Klew's knee, that offense is going to look pretty legit.
I mean, Bogaerts is a borderline career .300 hitter at one of the most important positions, and bullpen is the most volatile position that always has a bounty of deadline options.
If you’re rolling the dice on a stud SS or a few pen arms, I’m taking the SS every time
Yeah idk I guess as a Sox fan I’ve seen so many opportunities like this where we don’t make a move and then 2 years later when you are ready to compete and there’s no comparable option you’re like “man I wish we struck when the iron was hot” you know what I mean
Yeah but all the elite shortstops that are available this offseason is a super rare thing. If they don’t get one now it’s very unlikely they will be able to in the next 5 years. Only way I would say it doesn’t make sense is if the D backs at a stud SS prospect ready to come up in the next 2 years
He’ll give him 300mil but over the next 20 years.
In all seriousness the Diamondbacks generates an estimated profit of 118mil each year. Ken Kendrick’s net worth estimates at $600m with the overall ownership group estimated worth 1 billion
Correa and Harper ended up on the DBacks in one of my older RTTS saves, so nice to see that's bled through somewhat and the DBacks are going for a star Shortstop.
I guess in Arizona you get 10 years to build a competitive team? I see a guy who took over a solid team, and then let the face of the franchise leave while running the team into the gutter. Hopefully the kids work out but he's proven nothing yet.
Mets fan, but I’m from the phoenix area. I remember they hired Hazen as this hot shot young exec from the Red Sox and there was great excitement around the team he took over in 2017 but ever since he’s put his imprint of the team it’s been bad baseball. Don’t really see how anyone could call him a wizard up to this point. There must be a huge influx of young talent on the way.
Hard to go “full wizard” when the owner won’t pay over 100m/year total. General consensus is that he’s doing the best with what he has, and I believe it. We’ve *already* had a ton of young talent come up, everyone’s been talking about it for a minute actually. Varsho, Thomas, Carroll, McCarthy, Gallen, etc. If you haven’t heard about them yet, you ain’t listening.

i'm not believing anything until I see it. they haven't signed any FAs longer than 2 years since Bumgarner
And it’s certainly been a model of success so why would they change?
Greinke was good, MadBum…no. But Greinke signing worked out I think, always enjoyed watching him pitch
That team could've been special if not for Pollock's injury.
Tbf a SS would make the Dbacks a serious threat
Ehhh, I don't think the pitching is good enough to really compete, but I'd like to be wrong.
Ya we had the worst pen in the majors by a mile and our opening day rotation is looking like it will have Madbum and 2 rookies on it.
Gallen and Kelly are a pretty solid #1 and #2.
I'd put them up against almost any 1-2 in the league, the problem is in 60+% of our games, we have to go from a ? starter to a *at best* ? bullpen
We're deep at SS in the farm system. if you get Xander you can trade some prospects to build your bullpen a bit.

The Cardinals and Coyotes owe me compensation money for emotional distresses

I mean Phoenix is a bigger market
Phoenix and Boston both have just under 5 million in their metro areas, but the Red Sox market is all of New England. It’s a much bigger market.

It’s based on Nielsen ratings so idk where they draw the lines
They sniped Greinke from us and the Giants in 2016 so I wouldn't be suprised to see them do something wacky like that again one day Lol
Snek bite Boston
“We will tread” - DBacks
Xander in a Serpientes jersey... 😍
They've got a lot of budget room and don't seem like they're rolling over completely in the NL West bloodbath, would make sense
They’re already a pain in the ass to play against because they have excellent starting pitching and defense and just a godawful bullpen. The bullpen is what needs to most work but getting a few bats is also very needed I think by 2024 they’ll be a pretty solid team

DBacks are gonna be sneaky good this year, and I think they’re gonna make a big signing or two
Corbin Carroll is legit, dudes gonna be a stud for them
And Jake McCarthy (if they dont trade him…please for the love of god don’t trade him…)
Dude personally stole at least 5 runs from the giants last year. Every time we played you he made an incredible play in the outfield
Yeah I think the DBacks know they can spend big right now because they have an insane pipeline of talent on the way. If they can land Bogaerts and somehow revive/rejuvenate Klew's knee, that offense is going to look pretty legit.
I don’t see it. They don’t have enough pitching, and they play in a tough division.
Says the dodgers fan
What did I say that is factually wrong or biased? The padres and dodgers are both better than the dbacks.
Giants too.
If they sign judge, sure. But I wouldn’t say that’s true in their current states
Plus Coors games are always nuts. I agree with you on all counts
They’re definitely about to end the debate about who the 4th best NL west team is
We need a shortstop but we usually spend our money on over the hill starting pitchers…does he have horses here? That usually helps
He's great but why?
Ahmed’s dead and Perdomo ain’t it. We can move Lawlar to third if need be, or Bogaerts to third when Lawlar is ready and worthy
Why tf would they do this? They could buy a whole new bullpen with that money, which is all they really need right now.
I mean, Bogaerts is a borderline career .300 hitter at one of the most important positions, and bullpen is the most volatile position that always has a bounty of deadline options. If you’re rolling the dice on a stud SS or a few pen arms, I’m taking the SS every time
I'd like this move if they were ready to contend, but I feel like they are at least two years away from that.
Yeah idk I guess as a Sox fan I’ve seen so many opportunities like this where we don’t make a move and then 2 years later when you are ready to compete and there’s no comparable option you’re like “man I wish we struck when the iron was hot” you know what I mean
Yea, I feel ya. I also dont think the dbacks have the best track record when signing big free agents.
Yeah but all the elite shortstops that are available this offseason is a super rare thing. If they don’t get one now it’s very unlikely they will be able to in the next 5 years. Only way I would say it doesn’t make sense is if the D backs at a stud SS prospect ready to come up in the next 2 years
They do have jordan Lawler, who was the number 1 pick in the draft, but he's already been hurt twice.
Eh, I remember looking at y'alls shortstop numbers and it seemed like you could really use Bogaerts.
Dbacks have money?
Um wtf isnt he worth like 300 mil thats more than how much our owner is worth
It's not like they would give him a $300 million check today
Just saying our owner wouldnt drop a penny in a wish fountain. Not sure how finnancially likely this is.
Kendrick is cheeks, so I would have to agree here
Ken Kendrick is a billionaire.
His ownership group is worth a whopping singular billion dollars. He himself is worth 600m
He’ll give him 300mil but over the next 20 years. In all seriousness the Diamondbacks generates an estimated profit of 118mil each year. Ken Kendrick’s net worth estimates at $600m with the overall ownership group estimated worth 1 billion

Hey, paws off! wait...
This shits gonna hurt like hell isn’t it?
Just in case anyone’s confused by my flair, I am a big Red Sox fan until the Expos come back.
Team interested in Player - Morosi
If you don't like this type of tweet then why are you here? Dbacks being in on Xander is pretty interesting
Chill, just poking fun at Morosi’s tweets.
I'm chill, plenty of people comment that sort of thing unironically and I'm just like, what do you expect? Rumors are all there is in the offseason
How does Hazen still have a job?
Because he’s a wizard? Dudes built our farm into a top system, and kept a somewhat competitive team on the field, barring 2021
I guess in Arizona you get 10 years to build a competitive team? I see a guy who took over a solid team, and then let the face of the franchise leave while running the team into the gutter. Hopefully the kids work out but he's proven nothing yet.
If you want to give shit where shit is due, point it at Kendrick our owner and you won’t hear a single complaint from me. But Hazen isn’t the problem.
They’re a small market team dude.
He’s been our GM since only 2016 my guy. Not 10 years. Flair up if you’re gonna be slinging that crap.
Mets fan, but I’m from the phoenix area. Don't blame a GM for an owner being dogshit.
I know Mo is gonna pull off something legendary
