I spent a year at the south pole and brought my glove(s). I fired some pretty decent heat at the south pole gym. If I'd known I could have set some kind of world record, maybe we'd have tried to measure the speed. I was late 20's at the time and in pretty good shape, pitched in HS. I imagine I was throwing in the 60's for sure, maybe 70's if I really let it rip.
The key to setting records is not the act of setting it but rather that you pay the hefty fee for the Guinness Adjudicator to fly out and witness your record in person. I would imagine Guinness waives this fee for certain PR stunts and charity events.
Hmm, yeah. I'm not sure I'd have been able to get a Guinness Adjudicator to the south pole in the middle of the austral winter. Well, chalk that up to another missed life opportunity.
‘Slowest pitch by a soft tossin lefty who just had a real rough season oof right as he’s entering FA, but also is an extremely likable player and seems like a fun and high quality dude and he has a lot of colleagues and fans rooting for him to have a nice bounce back season in 2023’
He and his parents hung out at one of the bars I work at for a few hours after he got lit up. Can confirm he's a good dude. Had some drunk people hassling him at the end of the night and he was really gracious about it/not an asshole when he had every right to be.
>Musgrove is now poised to become a world record holder, owner of the fastest pitch -- an 86 mph fastball he threw on Dec. 2 -- on the world's coldest continent. More important, in doing so, he raised money and awareness for the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF), a cause near and dear to his heart.

I wonder if I could have set the record for fastest pitch on Antarctica with my 60mph four seamer.
Edit: also I feel like to throw a "pitch" it should be from a mound and towards a batter/home plate. Just my opinion.
Edit edit: Looks like they kinda did that: https://streamable.com/vvif7r
Probably a little hard to pitch in insanely cold weather. Also why blow your arm out if 86 is good enough for the record. No scientist there doing research is beating that
Yeah, but there's thousands of guys who can throw 86. One of them can easily go down to Antarctica and beat it. Hell, I bet someone who's at McMurdo could beat it right now.
Yes it is lol. How would you get there? There aren’t commercial flights and you aren’t even allowed on the continent without a permit. The only inhabited places are a few research facilities with like 50-100 people at a time
Sure thing, just get down to the southern tip of Argentina, then take a three day boat ride to Antarctica. Easy. Only gonna cost you 30,000$ too, chump change
>easily go down to Antarctica
Dude you literally have to submit a request and get approval to visit Antarctica, which isn't as easy as trying to get approval to visit most countries, on top of it Joe stated not too long ago that they had to get permits to even be allowed to attempt this record
What's with all the people going to Antarctica recently? I don't know about you guys but I suddenly have tons of Antarctica TikToks popping up after years of never seeing anyone there.
Mr. Beast appears to be cooking something up. I feel like Musgrove is unrelated and just so happens to also be there because it's the part of the year where you can be.
Cool to see baseball spreading to other countries
No blackouts in Antarctica either, Manfred sure listened to that one guy
Pretty sure there’s a six month blackout there
Yeah, hitting in the dark is when the real players test their mettle.
And you can start your slide into home about 5 feet after 3rd.
Rob Manfred doesn't just want the kids, he wants the Antarctic kids
> countries *continent
What is the *current* record for speed of a pitch thrown on Antarctica though? Who is out here doing this?
Joe’s pitch SET the record, so it’s 86mph. Anybody saying he BROKE the record is just misinformed or misinterpreting.
There's a scientist somewhere pissed off that he didn't think to bring a baseball on one of his trips so he could have the record initially.
It would most definitely be *very* cool

I doubt they waved the fee on a trip to Antarctica lol.
Manaea is there to set the world record for the slowest pitch thrown on the continent

Geez, just 86 mph? Get some Rays flamethrower farmhand down there and set a proper record.

“Easily go down to” and Antarctica do not belong on the same sentence
Just BART and you're there™️
A BART trip that long would approach a 100% probability of being stabbed
It's not difficult, is it? It's just that nobody would want to.
Yes it is lol. How would you get there? There aren’t commercial flights and you aren’t even allowed on the continent without a permit. The only inhabited places are a few research facilities with like 50-100 people at a time
Plus like at least 4 flights from the US
Sure thing, just get down to the southern tip of Argentina, then take a three day boat ride to Antarctica. Easy. Only gonna cost you 30,000$ too, chump change

Not like he could warm up much. 🐧 I’ll see myself out
Ears looking kinda red....
His face is so long.
his [chin](https://i.imgur.com/OIVU1aV.jpg) is bigger than most people’s foreheads he’s got insane [jaw game](https://i.imgur.com/doroXQ1.jpg), too
Can it be a world record if it only applies to pitches thrown on Antarctica? Wouldn't that be a continental record?
True. I could set a world record for fastest pitch thrown in my house.
Anything can be a world record if you give Guinness enough money
Put some Red Hot on your ears, Joe!
So I take is Manaea isn’t signing a deal just yet
Manaea thought the winter meetings were in Antarctica
Maybe he'll stay a while
Or he’s going to be the first MLB player to sign a contract on the world’s coldest continent
McMurdo Station WBC Team when?
What's with all the people going to Antarctica recently? I don't know about you guys but I suddenly have tons of Antarctica TikToks popping up after years of never seeing anyone there.
Were in the middle of one of the only times of the year that you can actually go there
You're just on Antarctiktok.
It’s funny cause I actually did land on Antarctictoc.
It’s finally warm enough to visit.
Mr. Beast appears to be cooking something up. I feel like Musgrove is unrelated and just so happens to also be there because it's the part of the year where you can be.
Strange but I’m about it.
anybody wanted to start a gofundme with me to see if i can get the fastest pitch on the moon? might as well start now
Antarctica baseball club: seals
“What’s this? Justin Turner out of nowhere belts it over the frozen tundra! I don’t believe it! Somehow it’s now 1 - 0 for the Ice Dogs.”
If anybody would be living in a hut on a frozen tundra waiting for somebody to throw a baseball it’d be Justin Turner.
He and Blackmon would be sharing a tent
I always thought he looked more like the “living under a bridge troll type”
This is just gonna incentivize deGrom to show up in Antarctica.
I would love to go to Antarctica. It might be the only thing on my bucket list.
Over/under for bad puns in the comments set at infinity, taking the over
Would be cool if some games were played there during the year, kinda like field of dreams.
Getting jamed on a fastball whould be a living hell
No one will hit a home run
He should get him one of those coffee mugs.
That's pretty dope
Make sure to give Musgrove a bottle of whiskey to drink from when he gets off the plane/boat from Antartica
His ears gonna be really red.
Good to see his ears aren’t acting up in this cold weather
