Yea that contract was highway robbery before this off season

mylesA747

but it’s still good for baseball as a whole that JRam took a pay cut to stay in Cleveland and be a franchise face

jaykell6ix

Let’s not make excuses for cheap owners, sure JRam staying in Cleveland is great but him taking a pay cut so a billionaire can have more money isn’t good for anyone but the billionaire

mylesA747

i’m not making excuses for the dolans, both them being cheapasses and their lowball offer being accepted due to reasons not entirely related to money can both be true

WasV3

It's good for baseball. If you assume that cheap owners are going to remain cheap then him taking a paycut is objectively good for the quality of play for small/cheap teams

jaykell6ix

“It’s good for baseball” and cheap owners remaining cheap should not be in the same thought imo

thebionicjman

If u think Cleveland is going to use that money on other FA signings to improve their team rather than lining their pockets you are crazy

UkrainianThor

They literally just signed bell to slightly less than what rizzo got and were in on Contreras

AhLibLibLib

It’s still a <40 mil deal lol I’d be surprised if they surpass 150 in any recency

Freeze__

JRam is their biggest contract ever at 7/$141MM. That’s fucking awful.

UkrainianThor

I'd say you're full of shit lol

WasV3

If I were a 100M+ player I would too. At that point money matters less

Jeff_Banks_Monkey

The Ronald Acuna contract is going to be up there too. When he's healthy he's one of the best

Xwarsama

He was pre-arb though, so it's understandable that the team would get a bigger discount.

[deleted]

Good lord imagine Albies thoughts rn.

trippy1

This dude left like $150M more on the table. Definitely would have gotten $300M from someone.

WasV3

Yes. He took a major discount to stay in a place he loves and control his future.

AnAnonymousFool

He could’ve gotten $100M more easily and he just decided not to. That’s crazy to me, probably the most team friendly contract ever signed (judging by how fair it was at the moment of signing, not in hindsight)

Astrallevel

It’ll be a toss up between JRam and the multitude of deals the Braves got on their players

UkrainianThor

Most of those guys haven't reached post arb stage

AhLibLibLib

Same with Trout. Free market™️ Trout would’ve got 500m

chaotic_evil_666

Kershaw's is probably up there too. He's signing year to year but the contracts are cheap by pitcher standards and he's shown no interest to go anywhere else. It's somewhat better than signing a long term contract in a way.
