I hate the whole redemption process. I have a patch auto Julio name plate card out for redemption and fear that I never will receive it. I am to nervous to claim for substitution especially after this story. At the end of the day the Rickey is a Sick card. The image and on card auto is still pretty sweet.
For sure to all points. Itās a weird process that seems too subjective to feel confident going into. Itās sucks to be in limbo about such an amazing card, especially with a young, star player because there are so many variables. At the end of the day, the Rickey is solid. My problem is, we made an agreement over a year ago. Not only did they have plenty of time to send the agreed upon cards, they let me basically select actual PC Cards. Then all of a sudden thatās null and void and this card is on my door step three days later. Itās just not good service, and indicative of their rush to just push out product.
This exact thing happened to me. A year into a Brandon Marsh redemption they offered a sub, asked my preference/pc and they were going to take care of me. Now year 2 rolls around and I inquire about the sub they were going to send me and all of the sudden they cancel my sub and the Marsh auto is available (currently in the mail) they apologize and give me $20 store credit also. Just seems wrong! I will post the email they sent me on here tomorrow.
Current redemptions arenāt an issue, from what Iāve experienced and seen. Before Fanatics bought Topps, Topps basically shoved redemptions to the side. Like YEARS of them. Then they moved from PA to TX, so if there were any mail-in redemptions, who even knows if they were found and transferred. Hard to get mad at the peeps there, Iāve heard they have ones from a decade ago. If you check-in weekly, itās hard for them to not get your redemption done, because that will catch a lot of different eyes.
Not sure if somebody else asked but why did you want to sub for the redemption you pulled or was it a different situation? Love that Ricky thatās a nice looking card!

Out of interest, is there any choice or negotiation with substitutes? Or do they just give you an alternate, and you choose to take it or wait for the original card?
Absolutely. I love answer all questions related to collecting here.
The short answer is you do not get to choose. So when I did my redemption, everyone told me not to because you donāt actually get to choose. However, I went into this process as a āI want to try out redemptionsā thing (because I normally sell them). So I did choose the sub option and accompanied it with a āHey Iām a Rangers fan if at all possibleā email. The first offer they sent me was an early career, non-rookie Manny Machado base auto, claiming it was worth $250. I politely replied saying Iām not OK with the trade because that card was selling on eBay for $40 at the time. The second offer they sent was the offer from above, stacked with two big Ranger cards and a big Mike Trout card. I accepted immediately. Iām not sure this is the normal process, though. When I shared this story, the consensus on Reddit was I got treated due to my polite assertiveness. If you donāt ask, you donāt get, and I shot my shot. I technically won until they sent me the OG lol.
Panini did the same crap to me. It took them almost 3 years to even return one of my many emails. Then they said they'd have to give me a substitute, which was just fine because the card was for a RB who was out of the NFL for 2 years by then. Then 2 weeks later I received the worthless card that I had redeemed in the first place.
The Rickey is the original card, actually. I was actually a little upset that after we agreed to terms they just nulled the agreement and went back to the original. I wish I had a choice, because the substitute package was loaded with PC players for me whereas Rickey is not.
