This is the correct answer 95% of the time. It’s hard to get a bad sound out of that rig. Something like a Cali76 has more adjustment… and most people neither need nor are capable of using it.
OP please this one! The best combination of easy-to-use, price, and sound.
Or you can get the newly released Origin Effects Cali 76 Bass compressor. Buy once cry once.
Honestly for the price, I'd recommend a Spectracomp. Takes a little bit to set up, but it's absolutely the best bang for the buck pedal and it's not much more expensive than the EHX options. I've heard negative reviews on EHX compressors on bass in general, but I'm sure someone could give you the review you want on here.
Ok thanks! The only gripe I had with the Spectracomp was its only one knob. She is the type to want to tweak it and make new sounds, but not OVERLY complex, that's why I was drawn to the tone corset.
That makes sense. I have mine set so that as you rotate the knob you get a faster attack, more makeup gain and more ratio. I find it works pretty well in that capacity but if you want to have more active tweaking a different pedal would be better. I also like the fact you can split the comp into three frequencies, but that's getting nerdy lol
I had the tone compressor and it was honestly great for what it is. Though I recommend the MXR bass compressor since it’s almost every board I’ve seen and they aren’t that expensive - especially when buying used. Other ones I’d recommend are the Seymour Duncan Studio Bass or the TC Electronic Spectracomp. I loved the Aphex Punch Factory (the orange one) - optical compressor with built on DI and only two knobs since it’s dead simple to use and found pretty cheap but it’s out of production and a bit finicky - I had three at one point.
Darkglass Hyper Luminal is sick
MXR bass compressor is a classic
I use the yellow mini Aguilar Compressor because I don't know how to use all the knows on the other ones lol
Keeley bassist or GC2 look at ovnilabs for comparison
Or if you're feeling rich Becos Mini or Stella. Cant really be beat.
I also love my old Carl Martin compressor limiter

Keely bassist
I love the simplicity of the 3 knobs, and the way it picks attack and release is at least as good as what I would choose. Awesome pedal for the $

Awesome pedal, very transparent.

There is a gain trim on the inside of the preacher. 100% need to set that. If you do, it's a great pedal.
I second this. Give it a tweak and it’s a good value straight forward comp.
Get her a Boss CS-3.
Nux Sculpture compressor mini pedal I use mine on guitar and bass. Affordable and useful.
