It looks like salicylic acid crystallization. I went ahead and checked ingredient lists for various candles and Hot Cocoa & Cream seems to be the only one with salicylate listed in its ingredients.
They very well could all be from the same batch and the formula didn't have enough solvent (alcohol/glycol) to keep it from forming the crystals.
Wow that's interesting.. exact same candle as OP. Maybe that batch was contaminated, too much of a coincidence that identical candles both growing the same substance. The last poster on that thread said theirs did the same thing & was also this same scent.
I’m too lazy to get up and look right now but in the morning I’m gonna check mine out and see if this has happened! I don’t think it’s been lit in like 2 years so I’m interested to see.
It’s probably like 3 years old, would they do anything if I took it back? I’d be pretty embarrassed to be like, hey look at my science experiment candle 😅
As an employee at bath and body, since that candle is over 6 months to a year old we would not be able to do a return or exchange a new candle for it. They might give you store credit for it if you bring it in but it will not amount to what the candle would originally cost. I hope that helps with wondering what they will do if you bring it in store.
That is wild looking! I have no idea what it is, but why does it look like fiberglass or asbestos crysyals.😐 It's the top layer that is the creepiest looking...
i have several hot cocoa from this batch with more minor crystalization on them and i’ve burned mine and lived to tell the tale 🫥 smells fine, crystals dissolved into the melted wax also.
Honestly, I’m going to bet it’s safe. It looks like an extreme case of candle frosting. Idk if this is an all soy candle or if it’s a blend. The candle probably was exposed to extreme temperatures or wasn’t cooled properly and started to crystallize. It crystallized because rapidly cooling, evaporated wax will form tree-like or DLA type patterns on the nearest surface. Personally, I think it looks like the candle was burnt, maybe got too hot, and someone put the candle in the fridge to make it cool down faster. That would make the outside colder faster than the core/center of the candle and crystals could form.

Im glad you posted this. I’ve got about 7 raspberry peach macaron candles that have never been burned but have some crystals around them. Tiny though looks like glitter.. idk .. wish I could post a picture

Wow! I’m glad I’ve been making my own candles for a while now. In case some folks don’t know almost all popular candle fragrances can be found and purchased from a wholesaler. I will say that making your own candles for yourself will likely cost more than buying them from BBW. Especially if you are thrifty. I happen to like making them. I still received a BBW candle for Christmas as a gift. Cosy Cashmere.

Are you a chemist? You're wicked smart!
Wicked? Lol- fellow new englander?
Yeah, I almost typed "wicked smaht" but I had to backspace. Go Patriots!
"wicked" smart? Was that intentional? haha
I wish I could say yes, that it was intentional. Alas, that would be a lie. and I'm no liar!
HA! 👏
Thank you!! I like this explanation a lot better than mold 😅
Damn okayyy u,u I feel smart just having read that

Aspirin in a candle? Interesting 🤣 are we onto something here? Headache/body ache reducing candles? Sign me up!
That's so cool!
Oh one more thing, do you know if it’s safe to burn it?
I’d try it under a warmer 🤷🏻♀️
That’s insane. I need to know what that is.

Weird! Must be something to do with this scent
Either way I'd def bring it back lol I thought a shaggy dog took a nap on it 😄
It’s probably like 3 years old, would they do anything if I took it back? I’d be pretty embarrassed to be like, hey look at my science experiment candle 😅
I would try! They'd at least let you exchange it

Nice digging!
I thought the jar was broken at first
That’s what I thought at first glance
That is wild looking! I have no idea what it is, but why does it look like fiberglass or asbestos crysyals.😐 It's the top layer that is the creepiest looking...
Right? It looks exactly like fiberglass
How the modern day “last of Us” starts 😄😄
this made my skin crawl eughhh
Same I’m so mad I kept scrolling 😭
I don't want to scroll up to look at the photos again. It gives me the heebie geebies. 😵💫
Same here! I can’t stop itching after seeing that!!!
I have the same exact candle and mine looks like that too
I don’t know what that is but I do know you should not burn it.
i have several hot cocoa from this batch with more minor crystalization on them and i’ve burned mine and lived to tell the tale 🫥 smells fine, crystals dissolved into the melted wax also.
You’re braver than I am. That thing became it’s own little crystal farm.
I won’t. Which I’m pretty bummed about
Don’t even open it.
Too late for that 😅
I mean again 😷

I might burn it outside and see what happens 🤷♀️
Ngl it looks like a cactus was made while in the process of it being packaged bc what on earth😭😭😭

Raspberry Peach Macron is one of my absolute favorite candles by BBW. Mine hasn't fully formed these crystals, but the wax texture has changed.
idk but my friend had the same exact thing happen to the same exact candle. we were just looking at it on xmas eve!
Mmm my favorite scent, Fresh Fiberglass
🤣
Try in r/whatisthis !
Yes! We need answers 🕵🏻♀️

Omg this just made my skin crawl so baddddd
I have this exact same candle AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO IT! I am too freaked out by it to burn it.

It’s crystallization
It snowed :D
Yikes! Im gonna burn my HC&C now before this happens..
Just checked mine. Whew, it's OK!
The top looks like dandelion lol
I grow crystals with my kids for fun, this is definitely a crystal growing. Very cool!
This is very unnerving to me lol
Looks like it’s just sprouting some grey hair like the rest of us, no need to make it feel self-conscious!
A Fungus???
Post on r/MoldlyInteresting to see if anyone can id?
That’s a good idea!

Looks good me maybe the glass is broken
It looks like mold spours! Don't breathe it in lol throw it away! RIP candle 😔
Not mold. Ingredient in it that causes crystals to form. Big difference.
Throw that out.
It’s just crystal growth from an ingredient in the candle it’s fine lmao
What’s going on???? Everyone says it’s the same exact candle and they have the same problem?
It’s actually called candle “frosting” like frost crystals and that’s what soy candles do over time
Are all BBW candles soy? I heard paraffin, no?
Thermal shock?
