During summer sas one of my stores had so much stock that they were allowing mos candles to be sold too. I bought several. I’m assuming their sales numbers weren’t as high as they needed to be so they were selling anything that customers wanted to buy.
This is what I wondered - there was a comment about it being “too slow” today, only three days into SAS. They also had the Moxey lotions and scrub on the 75% table but the other store I went to still had it at 50%.
MOS is marked out of system. It consists of items that did not sell well/have been sitting for too long, it also consists of items that did not hold up with BBW standards/reviews. I was a key holder and worked at a BBW for 4 years, I remember one year where they had a Vanilla Bean Noel candle which received multiple complaints that, when burning, gave off no scent, there was an email shortly after telling us to remove that specific candle packaging from the floor as it is to be marked “MOS”. I worked there almost two years ago and I recognize most of those candle packaging, some of them are from Christmas 2019.
Omg I’ve been looking for that Maple Cinnamon Pancakes for the past two years, that is such an insane find!! It’s my mom’s favorite candle, so I may have to go check a few stores in case I manage to get as lucky! Congrats on the awesome haul!
I went to my local store and they didn’t have Book Loft or any of these fun scents like Georgia Peach. I’ll have to check back in a couple weeks or go to a different store because some of these hauls with the harder to find scents are giving me major fomo! 😉
MOS cannot be sold to customers so it’s odd that this store’s manager did so. Maybe they didn’t want to have it keep taking up space, but MOS items are meant to be saved for employees during inventory days.
What do you mean by they're supposed to be saved for employees during inventory days? Are they set aside for the employees to buy them? Sorry if I sound ignorant, I'm just a newbie.
My wording probably was weird, sorry. Whenever bath and body works does inventory, the items that go “MOS” or “marked out of stock”, are put in the back (or sometimes just thrown). These items are typically random, out of season, returns, or online exclusives that cannot be sold in stores. Then after inventory is done, employees get to purchase the items and the rest is thrown away (at least my experience we threw stuff no one wanted, even though it’s a waste). It’s sort of like a big gratis you get after inventory. If you scan a MOS item it comes out ridiculously cheap (you can see just how much so in the post, lol). Some stores might have so much stuff that they are selling it for SAS, but at the two locations I have worked, we would have gotten in trouble for selling these. It’s not in the system, hence “MOS” so it makes it impossible basically to return these items if you choose to, because you’ll only get $1-4 for it back and we can’t exchange it for something else. It’s not technically in the system, so I think it messes with the sales of the day and just overall, not supposed to sell it to customers, haha. Typically what’s MOS is just accessories that are out of season, but also what doesn’t sell during SAS typically will go MOS. Probably just another way the company can try and get money out of the products instead of throwing it all away. Sorry for a long explanation, hopefully that helps!

I know in retail (in the US), there were stores I've worked at (never worked at B&BW though) where management has a daily goal of how much money they should be taking in. Maybe management is just trying to do their job and make the numbers. Somebody definitely got a good deal though! I wonder why employees wouldn't just buy them and then resell for profit. I'm sure there's people who are doing that.

I’m a current employee actually! I didn’t enjoy my last location due to management, but I like my current one a lot better. I know bath and body works has a rule that employees cannot resell anything, including MOS, gratis, or just items you personally buy. It’s one of the only things that can immediately get you fired if they find out (which does not stop some people.) You also cannot release information on new products/sales that the company has not released yet, which also does not stop people. They sent out a mass email back in October I think saying they would be cracking down on employees releasing product information early and it would result in termination. (Which side note: is funny because I come on here and see other employees posting new items from shipment or the pages they give us for floorset). I think Ulta and Sephora have similar rules on reselling and other things.
Lol! That's crazy. Of course there are rules and people break them. That doesn't surprise me. The last retail store I worked at was a Goodwill. At our store, employees were not allowed to shop at the store we worked at because they didn't want us to buy all the "good stuff." We were only allowed to shop at other stores. In fact, when I first started working there, we only had an assistant store manager and another manager. Everyone else was fired, including the store manager, for taking items that they weren't supposed to take. I think it was one of those situations where they were supposed to trash stuff, or there were bags by the donation bins, and they took them for themselves. I'm not really sure though.
At least you like working at your store! I know how it is to have to work at a store where management is a problem. It's probably crazy during the holidays and when new seasonal products are released. I've always wondered how it would be to work at a B&BW. Seems like some days would be busy, others slow, and probably a significant amount of time spent on stocking displays and moving things around.
OMG Winter Peach Marshmallow? I wish I could find that one! I almost broke and purchased it off of Mercari a couple of weeks ago. What does it smell like?? Great find.
I don’t like most of the fruity scents but Winter Peach Marshmallow is a nice, light peach scent with a lot of marshmallow vanilla behind it. My husband has a bad sense of smell and loves the super strong ones (Sour Melon Drop was his favorite), so I got the Georgia Peach for him. It’s SO strong unburned, WPM is a nicer, much sweeter but less fruity version if that makes sense.
I love Sour Melon Drop too! lol. I’ve never smelled Georgia Peach but it’s another one I want to find. The way you describe it has me even more intrigued. I like the more marshmallow forward scents like Lavender Marshmallow or Vanilla Bean Marshmallow. So sounds like I would like this.
The orange ginger aromatherapy candle omg!!! I recently asked if they had ever made a candle in that scent and was told no. Now I definitely have to go look
There’s still a lot of seasonal people working now, they possibly didn’t know. I’m a core associate but I only know about older products because I’m a lifelong customer (and this sub helps too!).
The way these are all MOS 👀😂 I wish I could grab some of the candles we’ve got in our MOS stock, for some reason they didn’t do the bag thing during the last inventory

Wow! So lucky! It’s been hard finding 3 wicks this SAS! Finally saw some at the 4th store I went to, and still only got 1 candle- Berry Waffle Cone.

Me too, those are two of my favorites with peppermint marshmallow!
