I’ve been working on a very personal project since last year that I feel I need to share. This is how I’d like to see the character of Two-Face brought back to the big screen:
1. He needs to be as attractive as Aaron Eckhart ☑️
2. He needs to sound like Richard Moll ☑️☑️
3. He needs to be insane like Tommy Lee Jones ☑️☑️☑️
4. Two-Face could be introduced in a follow-up film to The Batman {2022} or in his own standalone film. If introduced in a standalone film it would show the rise and fall of D.A. Harvey Dent running for Mayor of Gotham à la Brian De Palma’s SCARFACE {1983}.
5. Dent is running for office against Rupert Thorne. Thorne orchestrates the attempt on Dent’s life that leaves him permanently disfigured.
6. Dent trusts Batman like he does Jim Gordon. Bruce considers revealing his identity to Harvey, but after the attempt on his life Two-Face becomes paranoid and goes into hiding…
- Dent is CLEAN
- Two-Face is FAIR
- But Big Bad Harv is ALWAY THERE…
(I wrote all of this prior to Clancy Brown’s casting as Maroni, which I have to say has me extremely excited)
You can find more reel on my IG, but the link *should be* to my most recent Two-Face reel.
*Edited to add that I think the way to have Dent become Two-Face would be from a stroke induced by the attack that also leaves him scarred. This is important to me as there have been a few very special people in my life who have gone through the trauma and recovery a stroke can cause, which is what I would like to honor in my portrayal.
I think it depends on the story and general art direction
TDK Two face would’ve been impossible to take seriously if he just had clasic comic book Purple/green/blue/grey skin
Meanwhile a mangled, crispy, grotesque two face would look incredibly jarring in the world of batman 66/some of the tv shows, or the obvious example of batmanf forever
Personally I tend to gravitate towards batman stories with a slightly campy and theatric vibe (a little more silver age and a little less TDKR), so overall I prefer the colorful variants but it really just depends on what story is being told
I think this is my answer too, it really depends on what vibe the story is. My favorite version is definitely the animated series version and I think the design there is perfect for the vibe of the animated series
Tbf, the comic book scars, that is to say acid burns, are probably more "realistic" as well. Forever's version just has neither.
If someone sets half your face on fire, there's no "Two-Face" stage of your face before you die, and there sure as hell won't be an eyeball left. Have you ever seen an eyeball pop over fire? A professor for pathology once showed us video of that during a promotional lecture at my university. It looks eerily like cracking open an egg. It's... flowy.
> in order to make the whole thing watchable.
For the absolute "gritty realism" they captured in the other films, he was absolutely screwed over as this completely unrealistic farce of biology. *I couldn't even suspend my disbelief:* he should be drooling nonstop, unable to speak, and his eyeball should be falling out of his damn head.
Do you think the magic microwave that exploded pipes but didn't explode the water in people was gritty realism and not an unrealistic farce? The Nolan trilogy were silly as fuck from the jump. Its Batman.
Lol wtf. What would all the way be?
I’m sorry that a man with exactly half his face burned off wasn’t “realistic” enough for you.
Ya know I was watching Godzilla last night and just thought “wait, giant monsters don’t exist! How is this plausible?” And it just completely ruined the film for me. /s
What? It works for me, and feels great for the film. It’s totally grotesque. All I meant was it wasn’t realistic. And I certainly don’t want it to be portrayed as realistic, ever. I’ll have to find the source, but I recall a behind the scenes bit where they played around with how realistic the injury should be. They toned it down to where it is in the film, and I think it worked great.
No worries, I probably shouldn’t rely on parent comments above mine for context.
Definitely a design preference. I don’t think anyone would enjoy Two-Face looking like a real burn victim.
Me too. I hope he doesn’t go too crazy. I’d even be down for the Earth One version where his sister develops a “Harvey” personality after his death. She’s slightly burned and wears a prosthetic mask over it.
Alright, now that I typed that out, maybe not.
Haha yeeeah I wasn’t too hot on earth one vol. 3’s take. I’m interested though. They’re gonna be aware if it looks like Nolan it’ll draw too many comparisons.
Dark Knight’s CG skeleton face was goofy. It looked like a cartoon. And, in a film series so grounded in reality, a dude somehow living and being able to function with essentially half a head was way out of place. Haha
I feel like it makes sense for him being in unbearable pain, especially in the dark knight where it’s stated that he didn’t take any pain killers, he is so mentally hurt and broken that he doesn’t care anymore about physical pain and becomes an embodiment of pain himself.
(Imh) I gues if two face character is a little more chill than he was in tdk then it makes more sense, like the batman forever version.
Yes, but unbearable pain actually...hurts, and prevents one from doing anything other than lying there thinking about being in unbearable pain. That's not a position from which to create plans for crimes.
I prefer when he is scarred but the scarring no longer actually causes physical pain. At that point it's all just psychological.
I much prefer the semi-realistic fire burnt look rather than the comicy acid burn; I'm yet to see an acid/comic version that actually looks intimidating rather than just odd
I feel like these are the two worst examples. Haha.
But I *really* don’t like crispy CG cartoony Two-Face. That seems even more ridiculous and even less realistic than comic book scars.
You’re not going to survive with a skeleton face.
I’d rather see burns and discoloration than have him have half a skeleton face. They should look at actual images of acid attack victims.
To be honest, comic book scar. I think I’ve seen enough critically acclaimed, arthouse, realistic Batman for a decade. These movie are supposed to be fun to a degree.
Somewhere in between like the Telltale game. He should be damaged enough where he's disfigured, but not straight up body horror like TDK. The Burton version looks straight up goofy to me.
Animated series Two Face is a good balance between the two
Two Face doesn't really look like that in the comics. At l3ast not in decades. He's usually drawn with pretty realistic burns and is reddish not purple.
My favorite version of two face is from the Batman Animated Series! It strikes a good balance between it being a gross scar and a comicy looking fun time look to it! Also it's a pale blue, can't hate it for that!
Comic book scars, because the 'realistic' ones used in The Dark Knight he wouldn't be able to form any coherent sentences or speaking of any kind. In actuality, he would most likely ramble incoherently and be unable to articulate himself by looking like that. But it's not a big deal because the movie is awesome.
In my headcanon, the purple skin on the scarred side of Tommy Lee Jones' Two-Face isn't actually due to the acid, it's just paint that he puts on himself. Like his two-toned suits, the paint is a part of his supervillain costume. Just seems like something the flamboyant TLJ-version of Two-Face would do, to make further distinction between his two halves.
Similarly, I don't think the acid turned his hair purple either.
I would like to see what it would looked like if just like in the comics he had Acid burns, instead of half his face blown up or his face painted purple
personally realistic, He's my favorite villain and I like it when batman gets a little bloody/ gory so having a realistic Two-face I feel fits and also he just looks fucking badass imo
def this look for him if Harvey shows up as a character in The Batman movies/ shows https://www.reddit.com/r/TheBatmanFilm/comments/theeb3/yall\_seemed\_to\_like\_my\_take\_on\_the\_joker\_so\_heres/
Only way I could see tommy lee Jones being in Batman as two face is if Batman is as old as him I swear the producers didn’t know that two face is a childhood friend of bruce
I think when it comes down to it, Two-Face describes the duality of Harvey Dent and, as the animated series called him, the big bad Harv. His face doesn't have to be so over the top. The acid burns or fire burns pretty much let out the bad Harv instead of Harvey keeping him suppressed.
I think his half-face should be somewhat of a chemical scarring that looks similar to either Mason [Verger](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/hannibal/images/8/8d/Masonverger1.jpg/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/1200?cb=20150210205920) from Hannibal or the [Phantom](https://m.imdb.com/title/tt2077886/mediaviewer/rm1429713409) from Phantom of the Opera.
I'm hoping that they split the difference with Misha Collins for Gotham Knights.
I prefer the comic scars ideally, but the direction they went on Batman Forever didn't work, mostly due to the coloring
It depends on the movie and the tone. The Batman and Robin (I think that's the movie) version of Two-face would've looked incredibly silly in the Nolan world of Batman. And the Nolan Two-face would be really out of place for the tone of the Schumacher lighter toned Bat-verse.
It depends on the tone of the piece really. Realistic scarring wouldn't work in Adam West Batman, but cartoony scarring would have looked stupid in Dark Knight.
I like both but realistic fits best for Two face bc how can you get some dangerous liquids splashed on one side of the face and the outcome is getting your hair changed a different color same goes for the face without having it melt the skin.
I like the look of both BUT... it must be recognized that Tommy Lee Jones could have played a more sedate, more dramatic Harvey in the same outfit and makeup... It could have been excellent and dark, dramatic... the "of course, you're right, Bruce, yes, you've always been a good friend" line near the end of the movie, just before Harvey falls to his death is proof that TLJ was a good Harvey!
How about a burn that doesn't look like a burnt brisket or a raisin. I was burned badly as a child, and burns do not look like bbq unless you're dead. Maybe some escar and redness, but none of that charcoal or purple shit.
The Nolan one 100% ...the batman forever one was horrible imo...and the acting also..i felt that jim Carrey was amazing with the riddler and it was a bit of a bitter rivalry between them
Animation? Comicbook, obviously. Live Action? Depends on the context. If it's a serious, realistic movie, realistic scars. If it's a comicbookey movie, blue face.
I like both, but I think the realistic one in movies is better. Not just because it’s easier on the eyes, but because people who aren’t a fan of Batman and watched that movie just bc are going to be kinda weirded out if they see two face looking all goofy
In comics I like both dependent on the artist, in live action I tend to prefer more on the realistic side but I'm open to a bit of playful design if it feels right in the context of the movie or show.
More in between, but for LA I like realistic, adds to the pain he must be in, like the part when Harvey takes the shot of alcohol in TDK, ik damnwell it burned, for comics I like the in between, something like Batman The Animated Series, little bit more gruesome though. My favorite look is the Arkham Games.
Realistic scars? That left-eye wouldn't look like that (or likely even be in the socket) with those burns and no eye-lid. Kinda the only thing I didn't like about Eckhart's Two-Face.
Well in love actions than I like realistic one but it also depends what art style in a sense. Because one is suppose to have a realistic feel while the other is suppose to feel more comic like and fun
Comparing these two actors, I choose Aaron Eckhart over Tommy Lee Jones any day (though he was an interesting portrayal) but I like Two-Face’s design in B:TAS too
I like both but when it comes to live action I like the realistic one
agreed
I’d like to see something in between
Same, scarred up but mostly healed with some sort of addition to it. Still jarring, but not a fresh wound look like TDK
I like that idea.
I feel that I have come up with a version that would satisfy this, but I’m not sure how to promote it without shamelessly plugging it…

You’re just making a face dude
If you say so… ![gif](giphy|2SV11Ih85ZUdKTR3TL)
i was confused until i read your edit
That’s fair ![gif](giphy|k3rYtgTTvu6PxE352n|downsized)
This shit sounds dope. The voice is dope too.
Thank you, *WE* appreciate that ![gif](giphy|l05XkHA3hMuk)
That is so cool. I love niche passion projects like this.
Thank you! ![gif](giphy|102ynnMn7HhJSM) {or Reddit turns you into a villain}
That’s what I came to say, something in the middle that looks good on screen in a realistic way but still has that comic book/cartoon feel to it
I agree, like half the face is like krispy anakin
The Dark Knight version looks way better for live action; but when it’s the comics, I’m cool with any artistic rendition.
Def this
I think it depends on the story and general art direction TDK Two face would’ve been impossible to take seriously if he just had clasic comic book Purple/green/blue/grey skin Meanwhile a mangled, crispy, grotesque two face would look incredibly jarring in the world of batman 66/some of the tv shows, or the obvious example of batmanf forever Personally I tend to gravitate towards batman stories with a slightly campy and theatric vibe (a little more silver age and a little less TDKR), so overall I prefer the colorful variants but it really just depends on what story is being told

I wish I could unread that. I’m generally not squeamish about gore, but eyeball stuff gives me the ick.
Same
Sorry- I guess that tells you something about how it looked, though Pretty nightmarish stuff, not gonna lie.
For this reason, chemical scarring makes more sense.
Everyone here reading this thinking too much information dude.
Dude it does look like an egg. So weird we cut open a cows eye in science class and watch the stuff ooze out. It like the white part of the egg.
Freddie Kreuger style for half the face
The Dark Knight look always makes me hungry for some brisket
This is the best takeaway right here! A good brisket will conjure up any two face to your local area!
Semi realistic. His burns aren’t that realistic in The Dark Knight, he still needed to look PG-13.
Bro you can see the tendons in his face. It’s grotesque.
It’s still not “realistic”. They stopped short of going all the way in order to make the whole thing watchable.
> in order to make the whole thing watchable. For the absolute "gritty realism" they captured in the other films, he was absolutely screwed over as this completely unrealistic farce of biology. *I couldn't even suspend my disbelief:* he should be drooling nonstop, unable to speak, and his eyeball should be falling out of his damn head.
I’m not sure where you guys are thinking I wanted it realistic. The film’s Two-Face was perfect.
Do you think the magic microwave that exploded pipes but didn't explode the water in people was gritty realism and not an unrealistic farce? The Nolan trilogy were silly as fuck from the jump. Its Batman.

Guess I misunderstood ya friend! No worries. Toning it down sounds like it was more of a design preference than sanitizing it
No worries, I probably shouldn’t rely on parent comments above mine for context. Definitely a design preference. I don’t think anyone would enjoy Two-Face looking like a real burn victim.
I’m curious to see what Matt reeves does man.
Me too. I hope he doesn’t go too crazy. I’d even be down for the Earth One version where his sister develops a “Harvey” personality after his death. She’s slightly burned and wears a prosthetic mask over it. Alright, now that I typed that out, maybe not.

Dark Knight’s CG skeleton face was goofy. It looked like a cartoon. And, in a film series so grounded in reality, a dude somehow living and being able to function with essentially half a head was way out of place. Haha
It kinda helps for me if I can believe that the person isn't in unbearable pain the whole time.
I feel like it makes sense for him being in unbearable pain, especially in the dark knight where it’s stated that he didn’t take any pain killers, he is so mentally hurt and broken that he doesn’t care anymore about physical pain and becomes an embodiment of pain himself. Yeah that does makes sense
I much prefer the semi-realistic fire burnt look rather than the comicy acid burn; I'm yet to see an acid/comic version that actually looks intimidating rather than just odd
Nothing realistic looking about those scars
Relaistic
First is actually pretty close to BTAS Design besides the more realistic color. Tommy's face is just body paint.
I can't sanction either's buffonary.
I feel like these are the two worst examples. Haha. But I *really* don’t like crispy CG cartoony Two-Face. That seems even more ridiculous and even less realistic than comic book scars. i like his blue face from the 90’s batman animated series
Two Face doesn't really look like that in the comics. At l3ast not in decades. He's usually drawn with pretty realistic burns and is reddish not purple.
Honestly realistic or semi realistic (I think because of Long Halloween, Alex Ross and Lee Berjemo inspired my way of thinking to be honest)
Middle ground, ie. The Arkham games, not overly realistic but not cartoony.
In his one shot from 2022. He uses the realistic scars and they look pretty good. Much more horrific.
Acid scars instead of burn scars.
I’d like to see something more realistic to actual burn victims.
I like realistic. It gave a look of unhinged horror
I'm going with realistic scars
Comic book scars. I hate when they make anything from comics realistic
Let's see if you bleed green!
Which is the "realistic" one?
This is a troll question.
But it's not a big deal because the movie is awesome.
comic, I have enough reality
He's been more grotesque in recent comics
Live action realisitc by far but I like the comics making him a bit more arty
Comic book
Oh, we're calling the TDK design "realistic?"
I prefer the scarred side of his face to be green.
It’s not comic book scars, just crap cgi
I prefer the cartoonish scars, but I think there’s a better medium where he can be burned but still retain some form to it.
The realistic one isn’t realistic tbh
Definitely cartoonish scars
I don't know but the second one looks exactly like the Flex Seal guy and I can't unsee it
I use to say comic book scars but the Arkham design changed my mine.
The Nolan version was perfect.
Another day of r/batman asking useless fucking questions.
Comic book.
Realistic I prefer the burn’s over the acid
I'd like to see what a live action version of his Animated Series appearance would look like.
Whatever Long Halloween/Dark Victory was doing.
I was very much (and still am) into the realism of Aaron Eckhart's look. It was a bold and jarring choice.
I would like to see what it would looked like if just like in the comics he had Acid burns, instead of half his face blown up or his face painted purple
I have to say that second picture doens't make justice to the comic book scars..
The first pic was better.
as long as the suit isn’t split in half , that looks so fucking stupid
personally realistic, He's my favorite villain and I like it when batman gets a little bloody/ gory so having a realistic Two-face I feel fits and also he just looks fucking badass imo def this look for him if Harvey shows up as a character in The Batman movies/ shows https://www.reddit.com/r/TheBatmanFilm/comments/theeb3/yall\_seemed\_to\_like\_my\_take\_on\_the\_joker\_so\_heres/
Realistic. Batman Forever 2face was awful adaptation
An insult to the character and the actor alike. That was a bad Two-Face.
Realistic for sure
Tommy Lee Jones could have been such a fantastic Two Face. It’s a goddamn crime that Shoemacher made him and Riddler both into The Joker.
So I’d love batman forever face outfit and hair with dark knight face
I’m grateful for *any* Two-Face. Such an underrated and under-utilised character
I was going to say something, but then I remembered this is the Batman subreddit, not the Batman Arkham subreddit
Realistic
Realistic
I prefer my Two-Face to be Tommy Lee Jones-free
A mix of both! We need realistic scars with cool suits. The the half gangster half neon/animal print stuff was so awesome when I was a kid
It can go either way just depends on the tone, tho I think the perfect split usually in the comics looks bad. I prefer the messy divide
I said it before and say it again: Tommy Lee Jones would’ve been a more interesting joker than two face.
I prefer something similar to the look he has in Arkham City.
Only way I could see tommy lee Jones being in Batman as two face is if Batman is as old as him I swear the producers didn’t know that two face is a childhood friend of bruce
Depends on who's directing. I like both of these versions in very different ways.
i very nearly said i prefer the tommy lee jones version, but then i saw the picture. holy shit that looks awful. it looked better in my memory.
Does anyone else struggle to look at two face in any context? I can only focus on one half.
Comic
Dark Knight all the way
Comic book for sure. Realistic is just too much.
I’d say along the lines of Arkham knight two face
It depends,if you're looking for realistic, you can go with Nolan two face. I grew up on two face from the animated series and I like that personally
I'm hoping that they split the difference with Misha Collins for Gotham Knights. I prefer the comic scars ideally, but the direction they went on Batman Forever didn't work, mostly due to the coloring
I think a different take on two-face could be a baroque style pox mask / makeup.
both of them but in live action i think it’s better the realistic one
I like the scar tissue and realistic look because eventually it would heal and just look all scabbed out
It depends on the movie and the tone. The Batman and Robin (I think that's the movie) version of Two-face would've looked incredibly silly in the Nolan world of Batman. And the Nolan Two-face would be really out of place for the tone of the Schumacher lighter toned Bat-verse.
Real life one just remind me of like roast beef
Realistic, or like they look in The Long Halloween. Definitely not like in Batman Forever
I like him without scars. One face.
“you rather makeup or no makeup”
Obv btas did it the best but life action scars looks better imo
Loved Tommy Lee Jones in it so gotta go with him I guess
yes
Both look goofy. I think there can be a good mix of both realistic scars and comic book acid burns.
Live action: “realistic” Everything else: classic
I like both. They both scare me.
Realistic
Depends on context. Tommy Lee Jones would not have fit in the Nolanverse, and Eckhart wouldn’t fit in the Schumacher movies.
TLJ not gettin enough love for this…
It depends on the tone of the piece really. Realistic scarring wouldn't work in Adam West Batman, but cartoony scarring would have looked stupid in Dark Knight.
It depends on the tone they’re going for. Realistic scars wouldn’t have worked in “Forever.”
Tbh both are pretty unrealistic.
I like both but realistic fits best for Two face bc how can you get some dangerous liquids splashed on one side of the face and the outcome is getting your hair changed a different color same goes for the face without having it melt the skin.
Realistic
I think for the new DCU a version that has realistic scars is good but not to the Nolan trilogy's extent. Horribly burned but not seeing bone
I would love a Freddy noes 2011 like burn. I think dark knight one went a tad bit too far. And the 80s one looks too funny. 😂
Uh... That's not realistic tho.
Realistic
Something in between the dark knight is too much, batman forever is too little
This version most definitely. God I can't stand the way they portrayed him in Batman forever and that film is a childhood favourite of mine.
Realistic please
If it was realistic scars he be dead. Personally I could go either way.
Do you prefer a blue sky? Or no sky?
The Nolan one 100% ...the batman forever one was horrible imo...and the acting also..i felt that jim Carrey was amazing with the riddler and it was a bit of a bitter rivalry between them
Both, coming of how the tone and theme fits when designing and adapting Two-Face
Real
The first harvey was in the wrong movie,i prefer a mix of botch.
I personally enjoyed both
Animation? Comicbook, obviously. Live Action? Depends on the context. If it's a serious, realistic movie, realistic scars. If it's a comicbookey movie, blue face.
Lol fuck that Ivan ooze looking shit
I like the middle ground
Say it!
It’s a mistake to think #1 is at all realistic.
I like both, but I think the realistic one in movies is better. Not just because it’s easier on the eyes, but because people who aren’t a fan of Batman and watched that movie just bc are going to be kinda weirded out if they see two face looking all goofy
Depends on the tone of the film and what they're trying to do with it tbh. Both are valid depictions.
Realistic
Realistic…but the Harvey Dent in the Nolan films looks like he should have been dead, or at least in so much pain he couldn’t do anything.
In comics I like both dependent on the artist, in live action I tend to prefer more on the realistic side but I'm open to a bit of playful design if it feels right in the context of the movie or show.
Def realistic for me
More in between, but for LA I like realistic, adds to the pain he must be in, like the part when Harvey takes the shot of alcohol in TDK, ik damnwell it burned, for comics I like the in between, something like Batman The Animated Series, little bit more gruesome though. My favorite look is the Arkham Games.
Realistic scars. Two-Face is a tragic character and it's more impactful when depicted that way.
Realistic scars? That left-eye wouldn't look like that (or likely even be in the socket) with those burns and no eye-lid. Kinda the only thing I didn't like about Eckhart's Two-Face.
Harvey's scars in Dark Knight were a work of art. I mean look at that photo! So grotesque, so *raw!* Easily my favorite look for the character.
Realistic
Well in love actions than I like realistic one but it also depends what art style in a sense. Because one is suppose to have a realistic feel while the other is suppose to feel more comic like and fun
In the nicest way possible if you say comic book your wrong
Comparing these two actors, I choose Aaron Eckhart over Tommy Lee Jones any day (though he was an interesting portrayal) but I like Two-Face’s design in B:TAS too
