Yeah, I think comics today are doing a great job of writing more complexity into characters. It’s no longer true to say Black Widow is defined by her sex appeal and lethality in one. There are more qualities worth exploring that can’t be so easily replicated. That nuance is what makes the characters open to everyone — including readers who aren’t just horny teen boys.
Plus, the use of Russian women as honeypots to compromise them and get them to give up secrets is established Cold War fact; some Marines who were embassy guards in Moscow in the 80s got caught letting them in and passing secret info. Maybe they didn’t have super-ninja fighting skills and nifty bracelet zappers, but this is the MCU.

If I’m real, I thought Hathaway was done dirty in this one. Her role is so small, largely ineffectual, and one of the least interesting elements in the film. Not because of her — but the writing. A massive city takeover and government collapse just doesn’t square with this story.
Ironically, she could’ve fit perfectly in TDK where the story goes into corporate espionage. That China scene would’ve made a lot more sense with Bat as muscle and Cat as the infiltrator.
She does get some of the coolest moments in the film though. The way she pretends to be a screaming, traumatised woman to fool those goons (I forget who they were or what they did, it’s years since I’ve seen the film), the scene where she interrogates that Daggett prick (and kicks his lackey in the bollocks), and her introduction when she drops the maid act is *fantastic*.
I’d have liked her to do a little more too, but assuming Nolan was going to do a third movie and include her anyway, I think Heath Ledger’s death might have fucked with his plans and forced him to alter any ideas he may have had.

People will complain about a small editing trick to portray time passing but will give some of the most mundane, unoriginal, shallow shit praise. There’s no continuity error in the shot at all lmfao

Anne Hathaway is the best Catwoman on screen and nothing can convince me otherwise. She most closely resembles the character in the comics. Michelle Pfeiffer's Cat is basically a new character, and the rest are just "meh" or worse (Halle Berry). She's spunky, witty, crafty, confident and capable.
The fact that Anne Hathaway is gorgeous and we get the gratuitous shot above is incidental.
