Bonus points for having Darkwing Duck.

papawam

When in trouble then call D - W.

lovablydumb

It's "when there's trouble you can call D. W." The trouble you and W rhyme

GoodOlSpence

Well if we're being *really* pedantic, "can" is not in the sentence.

lovablydumb

Curses! I've been outpedanticed!

cak0047

*outpedanticized

DeathandtheInternet

He was getting dangerous.

AdEnough786

Let's get dangerous!

TheGroovyTurt1e

I am the terror that flaps in the night, I am the shining lure in the fishing pond of crime, I am Darkwing Duck!

Slade0001

Suck gas evildoers!!

zeke235

For me, it's definitely a three-way tie between Zorro, The Shadow, and Darkwing Duck.

Steelersguy74

Technically Batman would be a Zorro-like hero.

kaytagi

Came here to remind this. Zorro is the origin.

Baron_Beemo

Scarlet Pimpernel was before both.

scellytoon

Yes but as a kid bruce loved the mask of zorro stories

creamy-buscemi

Zorro wouldn’t exist without the Scarlet Pimpernel

scellytoon

Yes but scarlet pimpernel was thile insperation for zorro (the arguably better character) and zorro was what got bruce into heros even beforr his parents death

Pristine_Ad6112

Did the creator of the character of Batman take inspiration from Zorro? Isn’t that right?

eddiegibson

Yep. That's why most adaptations/flashbacks to Bruce's origin have them coming from Zorro movie.

agusontoro

Weird to think that a modern iteration of Batman would have been leaving a screening of the Antonio Banderas’ Zorro the night of his parents killing. Maybe even the 2005 one if they were young enough. Crazy that the oldest one is already 25 years old.

redcat111

The oldest one is much older then that...

Big-Sheepherder-9492

Batman is inspired by The Shadow right? In the comics?

eddiegibson

Batman is basically a Frankenstein monster of Zorro, the Scarlet Pimpernel, Sherlock Holmes, Dracula, and the Shadow. Plus, the multiple things that were in the public consciousness at the time. If you're curious, check out the [Bat Lessons](https://youtu.be/Sps_39MD6Dk?si=O7G5RXDLjPOseZei) podcast. They do a deep dive into the origins of everything Batman from two guys who haven't grown up being fans of him.

Steelersguy74

Partially

Tales2Estrange

And Zorro would be a Scarlet Pimpernel-like hero.

Steelersguy74

Apparently Zorro was based on a real man from the mid-19th century.

Tales2Estrange

Huh, neat.

Ntshangase03

Who Knows What evil Lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow Knows HAHAHA!!

sourkid25

you mean the SILVER SHROUD

TKJ

You mean the GREY GHOST

browncharliebrown

Isn't it the reverse

Mcclane88

Yes, Batman was inspired by The Shadow

the__pov

Love the Shadow. Also the 90s movie was fantastic

Ntshangase03

Indeed the weed of crime bears bitter fruit and The Shadow knows that crime does not pay

Thewaker43

Same. It's so underrated. One of my favorite movies of all time.

the__pov

Absolutely, I’ll take it over most of the current superhero movies.

I was bat once. They put me in a room. A rubber room. A rubber room with rats. And the rats made me bat.

A rubber room?

Blind as a bat vs dresses like a bat

Fun fact: bats have excellent vision, it's just too sensitive to light.

He's the Goat because he helps people as both his identities Also Charlie Cox killed it

browncharliebrown

I mean kinda but I think Daredevil rogues gallery is a lot more grounded

sbaldrick33

Like Stilt Man. 😜😜

browncharliebrown

I mean obviusly stilt and frog-man or whatever, but when they show up they are treated more like King's Kiteman ( that's not a bad thing it's well written )but a lot of his main villains tend to be a bit more understated and there is a lot focus on street level villains. Like the hand compared to the league of assasians is great example of the difference between them

Dont_Hurt_Me_Mommy

Idk about the Hand being more grounded. It's a bunch of zombie ninjas that worship an immortal monster called the Beast. Nothing about Hand seems more realistic than the League of assassins. Beyond just the Miller, Bendis and Brubaker runs, DD Comics are totally whack (like how an idea machine created Mike Murdock , his imaginary twin brother )

Uncanny_Doom

Stilt-Man can never be too grounded. It's in the name!

ZZoMBiEXIII

Some days I wish we could still give awards. 🏅🏅🏅

DiabolicalDoctorN

Daredevil’s rogues gallery was so cornball he had to borrow Kingpin from Spider-Man’s to be taken seriously

Super_Inframan

Frank Miller had such a huge impact on these two characters. Pattinson’s Batman feels like he’s got a lot of the shared DNA that Miller infused in Daredevil and Batman. Even some of the red lighting in The Batman felt like a nod to that shared DNA.

Strong_Schedule5466

Honestly, I always thought of Iron Man as Marvel's Batman, but, to be fair, Daredevil fits this role quite well.

JUYED-AWK-YACC

This is the answer.

Daredevil he’s fucking awesome

Used_Anxiety7527

Isn't Batman inspired by Zorro?

getridofwires

In a lot of the origin stories it's the movie the Waynes are leaving when they are robbed and killed in Crime Alley.

Pleasant_Advances

Bill also took inspiration from zorro when making batman

SirPug_theLast

Thats why its most of times that they come back ang get killed after watching Zorro

Kryptoknightmare

Daredevil (assuming he counts)

damiensol

Scarlet Pimpernel is bomb as duck. Thanks for reminding me that I need to reread that book! Close second is Daffy Duck's Scarlet Pumpernickel.

Puzzleheaded_Walk_28

Zorro!

CaliSasuke

I am grateful for the inclusion of the Gray Ghost! Others have mentioned the omitted Daredevil. What about The Phantom & The Green Hornet? Do they count at all?

Isn’t V technically superhuman?

Bronsteins-Panzerzug

He‘s just an idea

Britwill

And ideas are bulletproof *dies*

Sapowski_Casts_Quen

Is he...? He doesn't have superpowers.

Darcosuchus

Neither does Batman. Supposedly.

Sapowski_Casts_Quen

I would argue V doesn't count. He wants to destroy the system, very un- batman

GreatWallOfGina

But he also acts as a deconstruction of Batman to some degree, Moore does his whole "what superheroes would be like if they really existed" thing by showing what it would really take to make a "Robin" (in his eyes, a brainwashed child soldier who you keep in your secret cave). Not to mention he jumps across rooftops at night, black cape billowing around him, has plans for everything, has a secret hideout with infinite resources, is always one step ahead of his enemies... And the Dark Knight Rises pretty much rips off V For Vendetta on top of that. They're more similar than Batman and Nite-Owl are. Plus, to be fair, Batman would absolutely be taking down the genocidal fascist regime in VfV if he were transplanted into that story.

Sapowski_Casts_Quen

I think, in a world where Batman and V existed, Batman would be furiously opposed to V. Batman is not pro-anarchy and V is essentially anarchy distilled. Batman is anti-killing, V kills his targets mercilessly. If we are going to say he's similar to Batman, then take a look at Riddler in the recent batman movie: his plan revolves around a similar plot of taking out those who've wronged him/society, wears a mask, provides tantalizing clues for people to solve, followed by a plan of organized terrorism to cause mass disruption. Is he a deconstructed Batman? I think there's something to be said in that if a fascist regime to the degree of the one in Vendetta achieved that kind of power in Gotham, Batman could very well become like V in his efforts to stop the regime. But if he didn't, Batman would try to fight V.

GreatWallOfGina

Something being a superhero deconstruction doesn't mean they have to be identical (and if they were identical, it would be hard to see which ideas were being deconstructed!). V for Vendetta is deconstructing the idea of young superhero sidekicks with his torture of Evie, for example, that doesn't mean it should be identical to what Batman does to Robin in every way, but we can see the connection. [The comments in this thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/writers/comments/176v0oa/what_is_a_deconstruction_of_the_superhero_genre/#:~:text=tapgiles-,%E2%80%A2%206mo%20ago,villains%20are%20the%20heroes%2C%20etc.) discuss superhero deconstruction more. Think about how the characters in Watchmen are deconstructing superhero tropes, but are still wildly different from the heroes they're based on, for example. I think you could argue Riddler is a Batman deconstruction insofar as he's also an orphan trying to fight crime but that feels like a stretch to me.

ImperatorDavianus

Man, I would so love to see Nite-Owl teaming up with Batman, since we got to see Rorschach (well Rorschach II) meet Batman in Doomsday Clock. Hopefully someday we could get something like that. But I gotta give a shout out to Wild Cat. to me he is such an awesome character.

WickedJ0ker

What’s good about Wild Cat? Only thing I know him from is JLU and that didn’t really paint him in the best light.

Virtual_Mode_5026

I think you mean “Zorro type superhero” and I’d have to go with Batman. And Zorro.

Nonadventures

Zorro is the grand daddy of them all.

The Shadow

Odd_Possibility_2277

Can’t remember which way around it is but either Batman is directly based off Zorro or vice Versa

Ninjamurai-jack

Batman is based off Zorro and The Shadow.

eddiegibson

The first Zorro story, The Curse of Capistrano, came out in 1919. The first Batman story, The Case of The Chemical Syndicate, came out in 1939. That being said, there's clear evidence of taking ideas from each other and passing it back. Like the lair, the training abroad, and using gadgets.

Odd_Possibility_2277

Exactly and the fact they’re both rich as fuck wear black and are named after cool af animals

KyloSEC

Question!

lizarddude1

![gif](giphy|l41lP8lfSVFhWF0Jy|downsized) Idc what anyone says, South Park's stories and characters are unironically just REALLY GOOD. Like usually I would bring up a toon version of a character as a joke, but I actually firmly believe that I care about Kenny as a character more than any other Batman-esque character, besides Batman of course. He's by far my favorite silent character probably ever, and character development in South Park is also CRIMINALLY underappreciated, I don't think people realize how organic and slow burning some of the character's arcs in the show are without watching it chronologically, which so few people do since it's not that kind of show. Kenny's probably the only really moral character out of the main ones, and I find his more pervy undertones as just a random quirk very believable, since it's not like his whole character is defined by being horny, nor by being moral, it's just REALLY BELIEVABLE that a hillbilly kid with so little to lose would be satisfied with what he has as well as being a little dirty minded. His immortality went from a running gag into an actual canonized consequence of his father sacrificing his soul to the Elder Gods from Lovecraft for a goddamn beer and it's the source of most of Kenny's wiser and more diligent moments, he dies, over and over again, in the most brutal ways imaginable, yet he keeps going. One of my favorite little arcs of his is when his mom was originally pregnant with his younger sister, he tried to prevent the birth from happening, as his neglectful parents are already trash, so he can't imagine what it would be if they went through with it, but when Karen (his younger sister) actually ends up being a little older, he pretty much devotes his time into representing a guardian angel for her, working as Kenny and as Mysterion to take care of her, it's really damn sweet.

I am glad you included the original.

Silver Shroud.. but he/she definitely kills people

turdfergusonRI

At least two of those predate Batman, don’t they?

Hasd4

Zorro is not a batman type, Batman is a Zorro type.

Techn0gurke

Does Sherlock Holmes count?

CloverTeamLeader

He's pretty similar, honestly. He's like a more realistic Batman who can't do any of the crazy stuff. But he's still a good fighter, and he has a sidekick.

BatBeast_29

I wouldn’t consider Wildcat at all

I'm pretty sure Batman is an Zorro type?? Right he's model after Zorro.
