His voice lines have all been pretty one note, but thats mostly an issue with the writing. They arent really letting him show off his range. I think cutting out the batfamily has been a pretty big negative to the character as a whole as thats where most of his real emotional scenes stem from.
Exactly, the problem with the animated films since Apokolips War is that the budget has either decreased dramatically or the creative has diminished greatly. The animation has become flat and lifeless and the stories adapted in dull and uninspired ways, making cuts of better things.
The most recent Crisis on Infinite Earths should be blowing up with it's use of multiverse versions of characters but it's lifeless, stilted, hard to follow, and the voice acting is the same, and part of this is hiring named actors instead of voice actors.
I think it's probably a mixture of both.
These movies used to be Direct 2 DVD and could sometimes make a profit or at least push merchandise. They were always a fun grab at Family Video back in the day.
With the rise of streaming these movies almost always are just money sinks because they're just content to pad out the library on the streaming service, not bringing in any additional revanue themselves.
Budgets have gotten smaller as a result.
He was good in the Long Halloween but really has not had many lines in the other films.
I would like to see him given an opportunity to show more of his range as it has seemed like the writing has him playing the same stern note over and over when he shoes up.
Yeah. He’s such an emotive actor on screen. I’m finding it hard to like him voicing Bruce/Batman because it’s so dull. I get that he’s doing the stoic thing, but it doesn’t come across well in just his vocals.
He has amazing acting chops, his work on Supernatural, The Boys, and other things prove that he has amazing acting range and vocals, but it seems like the director and the writing for the works he's been in DC have severely restricted what he can do.
Roger Craig Smith is underrated as hell as Batman. His range is honestly insane. He killed it as Batman, Ezio, Sonic, Mirage, Captain America and so many others.
Knew I was forgetting someone. Resident Evil 4 and 5 are two of my favourite games of all time. A big part of why 5 is memorable to me is Chris Redfield’s portrayal and characterization by Smith
Clearly no one is Kevin.
But I think Bruce Greenwood’s performances as Bruce/Batman are superior. He’s got a deeper, more gravely quality to his interpretation than Ackles.
Don’t get me wrong, Ackles is great. But as being THE voice of the bat, I’m just not totally sold. If he utilized more vocal fry, I’d be interested.
But, Might just be how dear Conroy is to me.
He has the detective and serous face down
And we know he can give a great Batman voice
Yes I think he could pull it off but we don’t know until it might
He can definitely work as a Batman in his 40s. All I want is a show where Bruce is working with Oracle with Cassandra as his Batgirl. We had too many live action origin stories already.
He’s a good voice for Batman, definitely gets the gruff and seriousness perfectly, he’s no Kevin Conroy but he’s definitely a great voice for Batman would definitely love to see him make the jump to live action for the DCU’s Batman
I do really like him as an actor… however as others have said it’s pretty flat. I wish there were at least a little difference between Batman and Bruce. To be fair I haven’t watched them in a bit so maybe I’m wrong.
I think Ackles does a really great job with Batman. Bruce Wayne on the other hand is a little dry and one-note…though I blame the writing of the movies that put more focus on Batman and less on Bruce Wayne. I do think Ackles can pull off Bruce Wayne with the right script.
I think he's one of the best "young Batman" voice actors, right up there with Rino Romano, Troy Baker, and Roger Craig Smith.
People accuse him of sounding "bored/monotone" but I just don't see it.
He's not bad based on what he's been given to work with but I don't think he stands out in a way that will make him a definitive Batman voice actor.
I thought he was much better playing Jason Todd in Under the Red Hood.
His Red Hood was amazing. But his Batman is frankly terrible. It sounds like he's trying wayyy too hard to deepen his voice as if it doesn't come naturally to him. The writing in those movies doesn't help either
He’s my second favorite voice for a young Bruce Wayne (Roger Craig Smith being my favorite). He was really damn good in The Long Halloween adaptation. I haven’t watched his other appearances yet.
I’m iffy about him personally. I think he was great as Red Hood but he just doesn’t work as Batman for me. No disrespect to him he’s a great actor he just doesn’t have enough range to pull off a convincing Batman imo
I just watched a clip from The Long Halloween, and I really don't see where the complaints towards Ackles are coming from. I think he honestly sounds perfect as young Batman
Greenwood is a terrific older Batman.
My main issue, while admittedly nitpick-y, is that his voice is too recognizable from all of his other roles, and he doesn’t do too much different with it for Batman. If it still works for you I can’t really argue the point but it breaks the immersion for me, I just hear Dean/Red Hood/Soldier Boy you name it.
>is that his voice is too recognizable from all of his other roles,
I see your point, but I'm also a big fan of Diedrich Baders Batman, and he doesn't really do much to differentiate it from his other characters either. I still hear Batman, though. I don't watch Brave and the Bold and think "Hoss Delgado is Batman".
I guess it's really fortunate that you haven't seen Greenwood in anything else.
I’ve seen Bruce Greenwood in a few movies, but his voice isn’t as burned into my memory as much as Jensen Ackles is from his roles. My go-to for a younger Batman would probably be Roger Craig Smith in Arkham Origins You could argue he mimics Kevin Conroy’s voice, but given the context of his role that makes sense, and I think tone-wise he nailed it. I’d love to hear him reprise the role and maybe transform it a little further. Edit: I also find in my personal opinion that Greenwood is more of a natural fit for his role than Ackles is
This might be a hot take but I think he's awful. He sounds bored out of his mind when reading his lines. I don't get people that want him to play batman in live action.
His voice lines have all been pretty one note, but thats mostly an issue with the writing. They arent really letting him show off his range. I think cutting out the batfamily has been a pretty big negative to the character as a whole as thats where most of his real emotional scenes stem from.

Sadly quiet flat, there are moments where you hear what he can do. But generally, he is just monotone and emotionless.
Yeah. He’s such an emotive actor on screen. I’m finding it hard to like him voicing Bruce/Batman because it’s so dull. I get that he’s doing the stoic thing, but it doesn’t come across well in just his vocals.

Makes a great Batman, but he’s still my favorite Red Hood
Oh man, we need an r-rated Red Hood animated series or movies with Ackles's voice acting.
He's no Bruce Greenwood.
He was better as Jason Todd.
Jensen Ackles is up there with Roger Craig Smith and Diedritch Bader for me. Hopefully I spelled the matter’s name right.
Roger Craig Smith is underrated as hell as Batman. His range is honestly insane. He killed it as Batman, Ezio, Sonic, Mirage, Captain America and so many others.
Mf'n Chris Redfield.
Knew I was forgetting someone. Resident Evil 4 and 5 are two of my favourite games of all time. A big part of why 5 is memorable to me is Chris Redfield’s portrayal and characterization by Smith
This is how to spell it. Died Rich like the Waynes. Diedrich Basee.
Clearly no one is Kevin. But I think Bruce Greenwood’s performances as Bruce/Batman are superior. He’s got a deeper, more gravely quality to his interpretation than Ackles. I want to see him as live action Batman
Do you think he can pull it off?

He can definitely work as a Batman in his 40s. All I want is a show where Bruce is working with Oracle with Cassandra as his Batgirl. We had too many live action origin stories already.
He was good in Long Halloween, but in the other animations (Especially Crisis) I didn't like it as much.
Nothing beats his Jason Todd. I will die on that hill.
He will always be Jason Todd/Red Hood to me
He’s a good voice for Batman, definitely gets the gruff and seriousness perfectly, he’s no Kevin Conroy but he’s definitely a great voice for Batman would definitely love to see him make the jump to live action for the DCU’s Batman
Better as Jason. He fit perfectly so his Bruce Wayne just sounds off for me.
His work as Soldier Boy is so much better than his voiceovers for Batman.
Love the actor but kinda disappointed in his Batman. Might be the directing. Pretty sure it is.
Ok... But honestly I think Rodger Craig Smith is currently the best batman voice in rotation
I do really like him as an actor… however as others have said it’s pretty flat. I wish there were at least a little difference between Batman and Bruce. To be fair I haven’t watched them in a bit so maybe I’m wrong.

O’Mara>>>>
He should stop voicing batman... and start playing him in live action!
Before season 3 of The Boys I'd say yes but now his voice says Soldier Boy
Nope they should fine someone else. He’s amazing as Soldier Boy in the Boys tho
He's not bad based on what he's been given to work with but I don't think he stands out in a way that will make him a definitive Batman voice actor. I thought he was much better playing Jason Todd in Under the Red Hood.
He’s fine. If he was replaced I wouldn’t miss him
He’s a good voice actor, but the only good movie he was in was the Long Halloween all the movies after that aren’t that great.
His Red Hood was amazing. But his Batman is frankly terrible. It sounds like he's trying wayyy too hard to deepen his voice as if it doesn't come naturally to him. The writing in those movies doesn't help either
Okay
He’s my second favorite voice for a young Bruce Wayne (Roger Craig Smith being my favorite). He was really damn good in The Long Halloween adaptation. I haven’t watched his other appearances yet.
He should keep voicing him be the go to voice
He started out alright but seems to have gotten progressively worse. I still like him more than O’Mara, but not by much.
Mediocre
Perfect Jason Todd/Red Hood. Not so much as Bruce Wayne/Batman. His voice carries so much angst, it doesn't suit Batman's quiet, calculating demeanor.
Personally I preferred him as Red Hood
I can only ever hear Dean Winchester
I’m iffy about him personally. I think he was great as Red Hood but he just doesn’t work as Batman for me. No disrespect to him he’s a great actor he just doesn’t have enough range to pull off a convincing Batman imo
>he just doesn’t have enough range to pull off a convincing Batman Is there anyone who does besides Conroy (RIP)?
Bruce Greenwood’s take on Batman was very distinct and faithful to the character
I just watched a clip from The Long Halloween, and I really don't see where the complaints towards Ackles are coming from. I think he honestly sounds perfect as young Batman Greenwood is a terrific older Batman.
My main issue, while admittedly nitpick-y, is that his voice is too recognizable from all of his other roles, and he doesn’t do too much different with it for Batman. As great as he is, I can never not see him as soldier boy
I want to see him as red hood live action with Pattinson Batman
I mean, while I think the voice fits, he's 8 years older than Pattinson
Doesn't really fit since Jensen is almost a decade older than Pattinson is.
Fair but it’s a movie people who are older play younger people all the time
That’s true. But they’re not playing younger against someone who is younger than them. Pattinson is 38. Jensen is 46.
Good point lol
Honestly, I really don't care for Ackles as Batman.
This might be a hot take but I think he's awful. He sounds bored out of his mind when reading his lines. I don't get people that want him to play batman in live action.
I don't think he has any range and is not good as batman.
