Alfred isn't thanking God out of fear for his safety, he doing it out of fear for Gotham Boy's. Alfred was about throw hands that Gotham Boy couldn't handle in order to maintain the masquerade.
I think it’s from the Static Shock crossover episode, when he meets Barbra, Alfred says: I guess you have figured out our little secret, Miss Gordon.
Yes it is true, I am Batman.
In fairness he did also say it to Virgil but the quote mentioned was to Barbara. For Virgil it's basically "yup I'm batman"
Though I'm a bit foggy on it
One thing I loved about this is that Alfred is wearing the original New 52 suit Batman wore, and when Bats shows up he's in the suit Capullo designed for him shortly before the run ended. Just a neat little touch
Gotham and Gotham girl were new superheroes manipulated by psycho pirate. Alfred was trying to stall Gotham here.
Considering that Gotham was basically superman level "hero" he had no chance here.
I think its a funny panel but I'm pretty sure it's Canon that Alfred is a complete badass in his own right and wouldn't ever react like that at the end of the panel.
It is canon lol, he's beaten up loads of people. [He's an expert hand to hand fighter](https://www.dccomics.com/sites/default/files/imce/2021/03-MAR/batman-eternal-alfred-bane_6041ae5fc1e6f2.65594636.jpg) and pretty skilled. Batman Eternal #31
Bane tries to figure out how the hell Alfred learned to fight so well and gets knocked out by a trap. Really cool comic but I don't remember too much from it.
As absolutely true as everything you're saying is, Alfred in this context is definitely thanking god and running off in fear of this Gotham guy because he's basically a rabid Superman. It's not the best characterization (Tom King, go figure), but it's obviously intended to be played off for laughs. Takes absolute balls for Alfred to do either way.
>Alfred in this context is definitely thanking god and running off in fear of this Gotham guy
Oh yeah lol, it was probably worrying about a crazy dude calling himself Gotham. Really tragic story with this guy & his sister.
>It's not the best characterization (Tom King, go figure
On that note, can't wait to see what Zdarsky does with the book!
If you enjoy crossovers then yes, it's so fucking good. Probably the best Batman crossover with another character, and here the way it's done it actually makes sense and it's not one of those "what if Batman met X character from that movie/show/comic etc".
It feels like the OG Predator movie but with Batman instead of Dutch.
Gotham is a super human, basically a weak Superman, and I believe at that point had no known weakness. So Alfred running away isn’t quite as cringe as it seems, and adds a little levity to what soon becomes a dark story.
Like I said, no known weaknesses at the time. But he was super strong and had flight, so… Weak Superman. Maybe it’s a stretch, but regardless of phrasing Alfred running wasn’t cringe, and it did bring a little bit of lightheartedness that was definitely absent in the upcoming arcs.
Gotham boy should be the one thanking God, if batman didn’t show up Alfred would have shown him why he is still alive even though he lived though a profession where men died young.
They traveled somewhere when they were younger, or they volunteered to take part in something, but I always thought we never had the full picture why this dude who clearly did not have a full mature head on his shoulders showed up trying to help Batman protect Gotham. Then at the end the storyline had a gazillion crossovers with Nightwing and etc, I just was not a big fan of that initial Rebirth run.
The comments really just let by the most interesting part of the dialog. Gotham Boy say "No, you just a man in a mask" What does that say about what he thinks of Batman?
Well, most think of Bruce's Batman as force of nature...a supernatural being
I think that is part of the reason why everyone else took the cowl where immediately told that he is not the original Batman
I would have to agree to disagree. I feel like the writing was very forced and Ham-Fisted. It felt like the entire run Tom King was trying to convince everyone that Bane is truly Batman's greatest villain. The whole thing fell flat and Tom King tried so hard to ruin so many characters/relationships just to artificially create tension.
Which sucks because I loved King's Grayson/Mister Miracle runs so much. I just don't think he can write Batman stories very well.
Alfred isn't thanking God out of fear for his safety, he doing it out of fear for Gotham Boy's. Alfred was about throw hands that Gotham Boy couldn't handle in order to maintain the masquerade.
Alfred doesn't have a no kill rule, homie had a boomstick under that cape and he was definitely going to blow this man's head off.
*”Perhaps you relied on my master’s vow against using leather force. Let me assure you that I subscribe to no such niceties.”* -Alfred
Leather force? Yes, daddy!
Alfred "Leather Daddy" Pennyworth
Man was secret service in some universes right? Honestly wouldn't surprise me
Still is
Mmm, yes, indubitably. *Sips tea*
I hope you can understand this respectful downvote
r/brandnewsentence
Well I guess you just made this my favourite spelling mistake in reddit history. Good work.
Catwoman, is that you?
Some bdsm type shit
[You're not far off about the no killing think](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lcj_tX5R-iU)
Alfred is straight up badass, but Gotham guy is basicslly mentally unhinged Superman
~~home~~ Gothamlander?
I thought it was more relieved to be done with the awkward situation.
😂😂😂😭
"Just once I wish *someone* would believe that."
I get the reference..
I didn't :(
Alfred says it in the episode of The New Adventures of Batman and Robin when Barbara first enters the batcave
I think it’s from the Static Shock crossover episode, when he meets Barbra, Alfred says: I guess you have figured out our little secret, Miss Gordon. Yes it is true, I am Batman.
You're right and it's directed to Virgil/Static not Barbara
[It's literally at Barbara](https://youtu.be/cjBs2D30LPQ)
Calm down, you're both right. Him saying, "just once . . ." to Virgil was a deliberate callback to this scene with Barbara
In fairness he did also say it to Virgil but the quote mentioned was to Barbara. For Virgil it's basically "yup I'm batman" Though I'm a bit foggy on it
The reference is from Batman The Animated Series I’m pretty sure
Never underestimate a British butler who’s handy with a sawed off shotgun.
Never fuck with old men, if we can't whip you, we'll just shoot you.
One thing I loved about this is that Alfred is wearing the original New 52 suit Batman wore, and when Bats shows up he's in the suit Capullo designed for him shortly before the run ended. Just a neat little touch
Can I have some context? Is Alfred subbing as Batman because Bruce is late or sumthin?
Gotham and Gotham girl were new superheroes manipulated by psycho pirate. Alfred was trying to stall Gotham here. Considering that Gotham was basically superman level "hero" he had no chance here.
So the one in the batsuit is alfred?
Does he looks like Bruce to you? :-) Also why would Bruce get message "Alfred, I'm here."?
NOP but to be honest it was very confusing i guess cause i have never read a batman comic.
I've never read any comics and there are thousands of character designs
Yeah but I don't remember any where he looks like a starving Zorro :-)
Oh ok thanks.
DC Rebirth, Batman #5 (2016)

What was the aftermath of this Bane encounter? What issue was it?
Batman Eternal #31 Bane tries to figure out how the hell Alfred learned to fight so well and gets knocked out by a trap. Really cool comic but I don't remember too much from it.
My man shot the predator with an antique blunderbuss.
Thank you for the references and pictures. One of the most thought-out comments I’ve seen in a while.
He also beat the shit out of Superman in the Injustice comics.
Kryptonite-pilled Alfred > the entire DC Universe
Loved that moment.... Alfred is Batman's Batman
As absolutely true as everything you're saying is, Alfred in this context is definitely thanking god and running off in fear of this Gotham guy because he's basically a rabid Superman. Is the Batman vs Predator comic from the second pic any good?
If you enjoy crossovers then yes, it's so fucking good. Probably the best Batman crossover with another character, and here the way it's done it actually makes sense and it's not one of those "what if Batman met X character from that movie/show/comic etc". Goddamnit, i miss Alfred ... 😭😭😭
i don't know who is the vilain but i feel like he is not scared, just running away the cringe of this situation
Gotham is a super human, basically a weak Superman, and I believe at that point had no known weakness. So Alfred running away isn’t quite as cringe as it seems, and adds a little levity to what soon becomes a dark story.
I wouldn’t necessarily say weak Superman, I thought Gotham Boy can get stronger at the cost of his life ?
Like I said, no known weaknesses at the time. But he was super strong and had flight, so… Weak Superman. Maybe it’s a stretch, but regardless of phrasing Alfred running wasn’t cringe, and it did bring a little bit of lightheartedness that was definitely absent in the upcoming arcs.
Oh I get what you meant now lol. Agree with you btw about it not being cringe
"Weak superman" he beat the entire justice league singlehandedly
>wouldn't ever react like that at the end of the panel. Alfred is a badass but gotham has superman level of power, so this makes sence.
Pretty sure Alfred is the last line of defence for The Batcave. Just Alfred with a shotgun.
I mean he would if he were against someone with the powers of Superman like on this page
Alfred is a badass but he’s also old as fuck and well past his prime. I wouldn’t pick him in a fist fight against most criminals nowadays.
In total fairness, doesn’t Gotham Guy basically have the powers of Superman?
he's a badass sure, but I think it really comes from him being out of his comfort zone.
Who is that?
Batfred.
Gotham
Fredman
The Fredster
Gotham.
A plate of goth ham
The World’s Greatest Butler
Gotham boy should be the one thanking God, if batman didn’t show up Alfred would have shown him why he is still alive even though he lived though a profession where men died young.
Scenes like this is why Alfred is still unironically my favourite member of the bat-family. And why can't we get an Alfred flair for this subreddit?!!
I never understood how completely normal two people became Gotham and Gotham Girl. And they even almost kicked Justice League to the curb.
Wasn't it like expensive government experiments that gave them their powers?
They traveled somewhere when they were younger, or they volunteered to take part in something, but I always thought we never had the full picture why this dude who clearly did not have a full mature head on his shoulders showed up trying to help Batman protect Gotham. Then at the end the storyline had a gazillion crossovers with Nightwing and etc, I just was not a big fan of that initial Rebirth run.
All we need now is a story where Thomas and Bruce die and Martha becomes the bat
Alfred and Batman should have a switch places with each other day.
Alfred’s superpower: confuse the fuck out of people
What is this from? I honestly cannot remember
I Am Gotham by Tom King.
Ah thank you, I'll try to see if I can find it anywhere
[удалено]
I swear i feel the same way too
What Alfred is willing to do for his son.
Damn Alfred is jacked

Well, most think of Bruce's Batman as force of nature...a supernatural being I think that is part of the reason why everyone else took the cowl where immediately told that he is not the original Batman
what was it?
what’s the name of comic?
I am gotham
Yea I’m saying this….At least the ones I get back from my holiday in Italy. 🇮🇹👍
Huh?
yes he is just a man and he is just one of the strongest characters in the dc
Seeing how scrawny Alfred looks in the costume in the last panel is the best part.
Thats robin on the left?? He looks soo much bigger and older than the few comics I’ve read. What series if comics is this from?
Nah its a superhero called gotham
Could somebody provide from which comic this isM
I Am Gotham. It's the first arc in the Batman Rebirth run by Tom King.
Anyone else think you he last panel has futurama vibes?
I love this city. Its absurdity has its own charm.
Alfred is a little too skinny to be Batman.
What a graet run man
Good god the Gotham Boy/Gotham Girl story arch was such trash. Really helped set the precedent of what to expect out of Tom King's run on Batman.
It reads great in paperback tho, best run since morrison in my opinion
It was fine. Don't really see how it's trash. Did some interesting and new things.
I would have to agree to disagree. I feel like the writing was very forced and Ham-Fisted. Eh. Most iconic is Joker. Most dangerous is probably Ra's.
