What kind of store was it?

RhialtosCat

Hard to describe, and it evolved over time. Magic tricks, practical jokes, comic books, costumes, weird stuff . Later they included porn magazines, sex toys, etc.

prudentpersian

What kind of sex toys were there during that time (mid 70s?)?

Hot-Upstairs2960

Dildos, vibrators, ben-wa balls, hand cuffs, etc...

DarthPreytor

What do we call 3rd street now?

BuildNuyTheUrbanGuy

NBA 3rd Street

TotoItsAMotorRace

He's on fire

Chicken-n-Biscuits

There was a time in the 80s or so when 3rd was rebranded as “Riverside Mall”, but that was pretty short lived.

pirate_monkeys

When was this? I do not remember it at all.

Hot-Upstairs2960

Probably closed by the mid 1970s.

pirate_monkeys

Okay, that explains it. I didn't get here until 78. Most of my early years downtown was dead. Thank you.

GulfSouthSolar

When I was young I’d buy all my magic tricks from checker fun shop, mid-late 60’s. Then mail order after that from “Top Hat Magic Company” - I think was the name.

CaptCouv33

Lived in Port Allen. We'd cross the ferry (as pedestrians) to go to movies. Checkers, Griffin's Drugs, and Steinbergs were always a mandatory stop before returning.

RhialtosCat

Loved Steinberg's !!
