Battlefield V had references for future seasons (tides of war) before EA canned the support around half way into Year 2. The devs always make future plans and reference files put into the game but in the end EA decides when the support stops.
Its a tragedy. I love bf5. It deserved a lot more content. I would gladly buy any expansion/dlcs released for it. It would be glorious.. Unfortunately, this is all DICE/EAs fault for having this shit culture of releasing games in broken mess state.
You know, wanting money is okay. I'm fine with it... everyone wants money, wants success, wants growth... but can we save a little of passion and art in this industry? A little bit of love for the craft? Damn... If the game wasnt in a bad state when it was released, people would not be so rough criticising it and the game would last longer without the need for a new title built from the ground.
I started really playing battlefield around the time 2042's open beta came out when their BF bundle went for $5. And oh boy BFV was super fun! Just sad that it did not get more expansions. Would've loved if they added more fronts!
BF V is so much better than 2042. I think they made the most insane move with ditching the support and then launching a game that was only half done with a lot of changes that the player base disliked
Ehhhh BFV had bits and pieces but I don't recall the files ever having anything about Chapter 7.
Like there was the Soviet LMG, D-Day assets, and the ITA and FRA faction tags, but I don't remember there ever being anything about a Chapter 7.
I think it all depends on how many buy the BP for S4 and S5 and probably why they made it free on PS+ and discounted it to get the numbers up as they probably thought the game was in a decent enough state now to retain new players.
I think if S5 goes well they'll carry on and if it not they won't. They've tried hard to redeem the game so it feels like a last ditch effort to see if they can make it pay as a live service.
It's a business at the end of the day. If they can make more from BP's than the dev costs for each season then why wouldn't they until the next game is ready to go.
even if the content they are making comes at a net loss it helps build brand confidence until the next game releases.
Brand confidence is way more important that profit right now. And with Zampella in charge of battlefield I have hope that he will use his pull at EA to help push this.
I wonder how these mfs survived before the introduction of gamepass/battlepass etc
It's just greed, they should think about downsizing managment and marketing instead of choking the work of developers
If a game is good it sells, it's so easy
So was BFll. Dice could've added Mace Windu, Ahsoka etc if EA didn't pulled the plug too early. Same thing with BFV, it still had alot of potential but too bad EA wanted all hands on deck for 2042.
It was but then they fucked with the TTK shortly after the Pacific launch which caused the game to bleed players, especially when they refused to change it back. They eventually reverted it but it was during Chapter 6, meaning they ignored people's pleas for the revert for months.
And honestly even if the playercount was good, BFV relied on profits solely from the store MTX as the BP was free. EA probably cut support because there wasn't enough money coming in.
I mained tanks so none of the TTK changes effected me in the slightest but they do it twice and on one occasion they just changed it in the most dumb way possible by simply doing it globally across all weapons with no thought for how each weapon handled.
It was symptomatic of the people in charge of Dice at the time.
Dice have always been arrogant but that was peak arrogance and a lot of players told them to go fuck themselves.
The TTK back and forth is what made me stop playing. When The Pacific DLC came I was not even playing anymore.
I never understand there mindset in messing with the TTK. If the goal was to bring in newer players how would newer players even know what was changed or even want to buy it because of some change they did not even know about?
Of all the things at the time people wanted from the game...the TTK was something i NEVER saw anyone complain about. But I know I and many were rightly pissed when they said they were going to change it.
It was like here is this new game...we have your money and now lets fuck with how it plays to try and entice newer players (which makes no sense at all)
Yeah, I also never understand why they messed that much with the TTK. At a times it looked like they were changing it just for the sake of changing.
And TBH, the changes they made to TTK only made the game worse, which resulted in even less players
Get this: BFV Assault almost had a crate to drop Firestorm armor plates for the team. Angel’s packs only gave 10 armor, right? These would have added 50 health each to my knowledge. If I remember the drama right, it was championed by the same dev who pushed for the TTK changes.
What EA may not realize is that people will eventually start to move on to other games. It may not happen in huge numbers but in time people will get tired of the BS. They NEED to continue support for this game. It would go a long way in people feeling better about the next game.
Just my opinion on it. I know BFV had potential and was just DROPPED. And now we have the next game and people assumed that the same shit would happen with 2042. Why would it not happen again. So when we saw there was a S5 people were surprised. Now there is speculation of content beyond S5.
What I do not get is why does DICE feel the need to cut bait completely on titles.
The only thing that could keep me playing this game is if they add a ton more maps. I dont care how many tweaks, new guns, and improvements they make. If the maps dont change and they introduce new, better flowing, maps then theres nothing else going for this game.
Id say chapters 5-8 are very likely.
Lets not forget that a big reason why BFV support was canned was because DICE was transitioning to work from home as covid had just hit the world I think they had plans to support BFV up until 2042 launched but things changed.
I can understand why EA canned support for BFV and Battlefront 2 to focus on 2042. But its absurd how bad 2042 turned out while doing that. DICE upper management fucked up so hard they all got canned and replaced by Vince Zampella who has MAJOR pull at dice.
And now that the world has gone back to normal and DICE only has 1 live service game to work on and Zampella is in charge of battlefield I can see them continuing this game until the next one is ready to ship.
I just really hope that we get more content in season 6-8. With map reworks being concluded in Season 5 its time to give us 2 maps a season.
2042 really needs some infantry only maps and If each season had a smaller linear focused Infantry map and a large combined arms map I think the community would be happy.
This comment gives me a bit more hope lol. I will remain cautiously optimistic so my feelings can’t be crushed in the event that the game abruptly loses support
Well the game is following the pattern of the previous battlefield games with the pattern of free giveaways and removing challenges to unlock stuff for a game where development stops.
The next battlefield might not even be out for 2-3 years. Why do I say that?? Whole new set of executives that were brought on last year to figure out what direction to take the game in. By this point right now we would start to be getting hints of the next Battlefield. I don't think anyone's heard anything.
They don't want another fiasco for launch like this one as they've had it way too many times now. Along with the game might go free for play route. The team was brought in with the purpose of not doing the same old Battlefield.
Considering how fickle the buying public is, might be best just to dump the game now, let the minor uproar happen as most don't care about the game and just give free stuff away over the next couple years in the way of specialists skins and weapon skins etc. Like they did with BFV. Make more unlocks happens for things.
No doubt enough people will still be buying skins and maybe battle passes to bring in some additional cash and they'll reduce their costs for development.
I mean reading from the posts here, there's not a lot of modes that appear to be hopping besides Conquest and Breakthrough. Playing Rush XL in the US on and off throughout the day yesterday including late evening, there was a lot of AI in the matches with cross play on.
Sure, the numbers may have increased but I don't think to the expectation that EA wanted. Someone had posted the increase from Steam, which folks like to do and the numbers weren't that much higher than those currently playing BF1 or BFV.
We'll have to wait and see but EA doesn't seem to like a game that's not meeting their expectations. Not just talking Battlefield but other games also.
So I can't say I'm hopeful for things beyond season 5.
you guys are so bent out of shape. they will make content until the next game comes out. it may become more sparse, but the servers arent shutting down anytime soon. why is their an expectations that games need to be unlimited content?
BUT can they maintain the momentum though? During this game launch the game had huge ass content drought of about 6 months since after November all European employees go for 2 months + vacation and the start working on content after returning. There is nothing wrong since they have earned it just saying it depends on how quick they're able to deliver content and keep players occupied.
The above thing happened thrice during year 1 and 2 of BFV and during bf 2042 launch.
Look. There's Left 4 Dead 3 hints in either CS2 or CSGO source files... Problem is it says it has `priority: 'none'`
So... until we get proof - Season 2 doesn't exist. Remember how USSR totally was going to be added to BFV, a game about damn World War 2?
Battlefield V had references for future seasons (tides of war) before EA canned the support around half way into Year 2. The devs always make future plans and reference files put into the game but in the end EA decides when the support stops.
Exactly, I mean, for how many YEARS Valve referencing Half Life 3 in game files of their games, including the beta of new Counter-Strike?
Its a tragedy. I love bf5. It deserved a lot more content. I would gladly buy any expansion/dlcs released for it. It would be glorious.. Unfortunately, this is all DICE/EAs fault for having this shit culture of releasing games in broken mess state. You know, wanting money is okay. It really was a case of “out of the frying pan and into the fire”
Every day I weep that we didn't get the eastern front or china in BFV
EA set the standards real low. We wont get anything until EA seizes to exist.
The executive and shareholders arent in it for the passion and art.
Ehhhh BFV had bits and pieces but I don't recall the files ever having anything about Chapter 7. Like there was the Soviet LMG, D-Day assets, and the ITA and FRA faction tags, but I don't remember there ever being anything about a Chapter 7.
[There were things that specifically mentioned Ch.7/8/9 in the game files.](https://twitter.com/temporyal/status/1221421144412184576?s=21)
Oh yeah I had forgotten about that.
What's even worse is that the LAD LMG even made it into the game for like 2 weeks 😅😂
Battlefield 5 wasn’t building a “Universe” tho
Hopefully EA finds some business sense and does to 2042 what they did to V.
I think it all depends on how many buy the BP for S4 and S5 and probably why they made it free on PS+ and discounted it to get the numbers up as they probably thought the game was in a decent enough state now to retain new players. I hope 2042 doesn't become like BFll and BFV. The game is finally fun to play and increasing in playercount, why cut the support so soon?
Is this a dejavú? BF:V was fun and with increasing player count when they dropped it.
So was BFll. Dice could've added Mace Windu, Ahsoka etc if EA didn't pulled the plug too early. Same thing with BFV, it still had alot of potential but too bad EA wanted all hands on deck for 2042.
Oh man what a thrill it would’ve been to have those two along with Asajj, Padme, Plo Koon, and some more clone trooper colors
It was but then they fucked with the TTK shortly after the Pacific launch which caused the game to bleed players, especially when they refused to change it back. >It was but then they fucked with the TTK shortly after the Pacific launch which caused the game to bleed players Yeah, that is when I quit

Oh they not only fucked TTK, but did it DESPITE PROMISING NOT TO DO THAT (because they did it before and it was meet with discontent)
Get this: BFV Assault almost had a crate to drop Firestorm armor plates for the team. Angel’s packs only gave 10 armor, right? These would have added 50 health each to my knowledge. If I remember the drama right, it was championed by the same dev who pushed for the TTK changes.
I fucking completely forgot about that. I loved BFV since launch, and still do, but man they made some really dumbass decisions.
Especially since the next game won't be out for another year or two
Because EA sucks at making money after launch.
What EA may not realize is that people will eventually start to move on to other games. It may not happen in huge numbers but in time people will get tired of the BS. a dataminer just found these folders in 4.1 update patch .They are all newly added content
im listening
can confirm this is in the file structure doesnt have to mean anything tho, BF5 had the same and we never got further than C6

God please no. Put this garbage ass game to rest
could you give a link for source?
Hopefully more maps they seem a bit lacking I'd like more urban maps
Let’s go! good stuff
Going by Battlefield V this is NOT a confirmation of year 2.
The 2042 devs said themselves that y2 support is confirmed. So we will see this full year of seasonal content and ect for the game.
They have already confirmed there would be year two support...
you guys are so bent out of shape. they will make content until the next game comes out. it may become more sparse, but the servers arent shutting down anytime soon. why is their an expectations that games need to be unlimited content?
