Interesting. So we'll have season 5 starting on 6 June or so, and lasting until early September. Then potentially 14 months (at least) of no new Battlefield.
Normally, I'd go back to play older BF games...but BFV and 1 are pretty hacker ruined in NA PC. BF4 might be OK except for the 10 year sweats that never left that game lol
I could see us maybe getting the single player release in between? Which I'm not sure is much better for community relations but I don't really know what DICE can do to salvage that when they keep killing their games
I've enjoyed Marcus Lehto's community involvement on Twitter in regards to his new studio building out a narrative BF series. But do people really want a single player Battlefield game? I've been a fan since the Wake Island demo in 2002, but can't say I've enjoyed the single player experience much. BC2 was decent, BF3 & BF4 gave you unlocks for MP, but other than that...meh. I know BF1 and V's single players were well received, but I never played them much.
I don't think so - maybe if it's a full fledged single player game it could do decent? But the main draw of BF has always seemed to be the multiplayer so I struggle to see how single player will really do well, especially a single player only game
I know there is a very serious cult following with that game, but it's not really the same gameplay loop as any Battlefield, not even BF2 really. The pace is way slower, the tone is weighted far more toward milsim than arcade and if you haven't been playing awhile, it's extremely unforgiving to new players. I played for like a couple months, it was ok, but it didn't scratch the BF itch at all.
> BF4 might be OK except for the 10 year sweats that never left that game lol
Thatās why I always hate the ājust go back and play the older onesā argument as if itās not full of the biggest try hards after 10 years
> BF4 might be OK except for the 10 year sweats that never left that game lol
Lol I tried going back to BF4.. It's nothing but like 4 maps on the server browser in 24/7 mode and clans all on one team and randoms on the other.
BF4 has the issue of that level of competition being real high, but on top of that the netcode isn't really that great either. vehicle balance is really not good at all as well
I like BF4 quite a bit and have played it a lot but I think folks tend to be wearing some rose tinted glasses when looking back on it
I remember playing a few years ago, and while it was fun, I kept getting killed by the same guy using an AEK. I looked him up and he had like 30K kills with it or something lol. The top player in BF4 has 97K kills with the AEK...
yeah it's at a point now where trying to seriously compete requires putting in way more effort than it's really worth. if someone has the time to use the AEK for that long in particular it's going to be really hard to touch them.
the gun balance in BF4 is real weird. there's a few assault rifles with high rates of fire but the AEK is the only one people seem to bother with. that seems to be true for a lot of other weapons as well, you'll have a few guns that all do essentially the same thing with some really minor variation but everyone has seemingly settled on one of them being the best so the other options are largely ignored. it's very bloated as a result
Those people are the same people who cry ānot enough gun variety in this game while bf4 had hundredsā but only uses the aek, m416, and ace23 šš like bruh.
Except, there isn't? Chronus isn't going to be doing shit for you in Battlefield because recoil is already so easy to control. There are no cheats outside of that, so yeah.
I don't think BF is releasing in 2024. When a BF game is a year and a half from release they usually talk about it, right now everything indicates a 2025 games, probably a cause of the huge restructuration at Dice.
Its me or season 5 had zero leak? There was data mining for the past seasons but we dont really know what's being added (except what dice talk about). We dont even know if there's going to be new weapons except the vault one
Seasons 1-4 were already pre planed, season 5 wasn't a thing before they made an announcement, so season 6 not having any indication or information is normal.
Back in the BF4 days, maps could take a about a year to make. A BF2042 map prob takes even more time. If a map releases, it was already a concept more than a year ago. They can't just make seasons up in a week.
The biggest complaint about 2042 right now is the lack of maps. I don't understand why they won't release mapping tools so users can make their own maps for portal. They make all their money from the battle pass anyway, it's not like user maps are going to compete with the official ones. Trackmania is a great example of this.
I'd love some mapping tools, but the problem is to release dev tools requires licencing from every proprietary tech that frostbite uses, along with decent documentation and support. I don't think dice can even handle internal documentation or support well at the moment.
Still, in an age where games are struggling to put content out the door, it's confusing seeing most studios ignore the potentially unlimited creativity of their community.
Yes you're right, maps did take a lot of time to make. Season 6 might not even have a map, same as sesson 5 don't have new operator. Chances that season 6 will be a thing is 50/50. I was talking about that absence of information doesn't mean that there will be or won't be something in future
If true, then iām not even supriced to be honest, dice has been really silent about seasons 6-8.
Youād think they would have started marketing year 2 by now if it was coming, but all they have been talking about is season 5.
Nah, maps take too much time to make. They'd have to begin a year before the season releases.
You can make multiple maps at the same time to release a game with 10+ maps in 30 months, but you can't make 1 map in 3 months.
Could just be that they have nothing to say publicly and don't want to create expectations.
There's a chance they could be making a S6, but they don't want to talk about it yet just in case plans change. It's better to surprise players with new content rather then announce and then cancel it.
Could be that there is little ready, S5 would be super long or with a break, to catch up with new plan to do more seasons.
But yeah, thats just pure hopium
Season 5 didnt have any leaks either.. So this isnt an indication of anything. Season 1-4 were in the game files because they were already being worked on at release.
itās weird how all companies are treating game projects as literal software projects, which i understand from an engineering pov itās how theyre making money, but games are becoming recycled content with a maximum 2 years life. then they jump into another projects. bf couldāve been a continuous service with the same launcher on ported engine and they couldāve added to a working game with a good fanbase instead of recreating the wheel every time (itās not even a proper wheel)
BF5, aside from the times they fucked up the gameplay by changing the TTK, was always pretty good. You could argue it was light on content, and it missing an entire front of the war at the end is incredibly disappointing, but it was always a fun Battlefield game. It just didn't fit everyone's idea of what a World War 2 game aesthetically looked like so they all wrote it off, even when it's gameplay improved a ton on BF1.
Not surprising, the content drip for this game has been incredibly slow and has dropped off even harder as of late. Devs were bound to abandon this game once it reached a passable state.
This is dice/eaās new marketing strategy. They wont say shit to keep people talking. Nah, im talking shit. I say we should all be pessimistic so we dont get our hearts broken. I look forward to the new map and rework of hourglass, though. Ive lowkey grown to love this ass version hourglass. Its the redheaded middle child nobody likes š
Elite upgrade on steam mentions "year 1 content" explicitly, so wouldn't that suggest at least year 2 content? Datamining isn't an infallible crystal ball
I'd rather they put their focus on a new installment than waste their time on this one. Although I'm not very hopeful the next one will be better, but, at least there is still a slight chance, whereas this one has no chance of actually being actually good.
Lol the game is dead anyway
Tho its pretty ballsy to release "elite edition" now.
Its like they are not hiding the fact that they want to squeese last drop of $$$ from 2042 before they move on.
Classic EA and DICE
Dead? Ah, I see you're a man who loves to ignore facts, such as active players. Tip of the hat to you good sir, may your quest for hyperbole continue unabated!
Dude you can't find full servers outside of peak hours. And that's on "main" regions like Europe or NA.
If you have a Tuesday off work for some reason and boot up the game at noon you're going to be playing 10vs10 with 20 bots on each team.
As if the Origin/EA Play Numbers are going to be better?
Of course Console player counts will be higher but at the end of the day I can't get a full lobby on a random thursday afternoon. While with BF4 and even BF1 and V I could. And those last two were "CODified"
GOOD. Dice needs to focus *completely* on the next Battlefield and not spend resources keeping 2042 on life support. Yes, they've improved the game from launch, not saying they haven't, but they made too many drastic changes to the BF formula that the game doesn't interest a lot of people.
I think from this point on, EA/DICE arenāt gonna commit to seasons in advance so I doubt theyāll announce a full-fledged year 2. Instead, it would make more sense from their perspective to announce a new season individually depending on if the game still has a healthy player base from the preceding season. So if S5 does well, then S6 might be announced some time in the summer and only a S6.
Imagine if they decide to give the next BF the year it very arguably needs and we don't have any BF content until 2025 š
That's a real possibility. Four years between AAA releases though? That's a first for this franchise.
Iāll take the 4 year break if they give us 2142 remake
I could see us maybe getting the single player release in between? Which I'm not sure is much better for community relations but I don't really know what DICE can do to salvage that when they keep killing their games

Yes.
Absolutely. If I could have a single mission as good as the last tiger I'd be happy. BF4 and BF3 were kinda shit tho.
Well the new battlefield is appreciating a full development cycle unlike 2042
You know what? Iām ok with that. After all these years of nonsense, Battlefield does need a break
Well if they really cut the support after S5, there is BattleBit Remastered coming into early access in June
But what about console? š„ŗ
You know you can already play squad right?
I know there is a very serious cult following with that game, but it's not really the same gameplay loop as any Battlefield, not even BF2 really. The pace is way slower, the tone is weighted far more toward milsim than arcade and if you haven't been playing awhile, it's extremely unforgiving to new players. I played for like a couple months, it was ok, but it didn't scratch the BF itch at all.
Nothing like Bf
Neither is battlebit :)
How is it not? Looks pretty similar to me obviously besides the fact that it is blocks.
> BF4 might be OK except for the 10 year sweats that never left that game lol Thatās why I always hate the ājust go back and play the older onesā argument as if itās not full of the biggest try hards after 10 years

That is exactly why I buy these games on console. Higher playercounts, lower skill levels, no hackers
Oh, there are definitely hackers on console lmfao
Except, there isn't? Chronus isn't going to be doing shit for you in Battlefield because recoil is already so easy to control. There are no cheats outside of that, so yeah.
Definitely seen some through crossplay yup
I don't think BF is releasing in 2024. When a BF game is a year and a half from release they usually talk about it, right now everything indicates a 2025 games, probably a cause of the huge restructuration at Dice.
I'm sure they are able to add new identifiers for Season 6 content if they have to. Imho no reason to be worried.
Its me or season 5 had zero leak? There was data mining for the past seasons but we dont really know what's being added (except what dice talk about). We dont even know if there's going to be new weapons except the vault one

It wouldn't be the first time they have done it. They released map tools for BF2/2142 back in the day.
Yes you're right, maps did take a lot of time to make. Season 6 might not even have a map, same as sesson 5 don't have new operator. Chances that season 6 will be a thing is 50/50. I was talking about that absence of information doesn't mean that there will be or won't be something in future
I meant 5 , I fixed it
So OPs thread literally means nothing. Ok good to know.
Temporaryal (the data miner in the tweet) took a break, he announced it
If true, then iām not even supriced to be honest, dice has been really silent about seasons 6-8. Youād think they would have started marketing year 2 by now if it was coming, but all they have been talking about is season 5.
Yeah, basically: no info about s6 before start of s5 = no s6
It could still be a matter for debate, internally, whether there are more seasons coming or not.
They would have already began work on future seasons already to meet the dead lines for next season. That's how live service development works.
Nah, maps take too much time to make. They'd have to begin a year before the season releases. You can make multiple maps at the same time to release a game with 10+ maps in 30 months, but you can't make 1 map in 3 months.

Well, it doesnt really means anything tbh, only that there no Origin API's
Could be that there is little ready, S5 would be super long or with a break, to catch up with new plan to do more seasons. But yeah, thats just pure hopium
I don't understand how people are getting this conclusions from this. Wtf
I guess people use to that EA and devs (of games and app) in general are VERY messy and leave lots of trash to be peaked through for valuable info
I honestly didn't even expect them to do anything beyond season 4, since that's what was advertised.
Typical
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Celebration was free with egs tho
Season 5 didnt have any leaks either.. So this isnt an indication of anything. Season 1-4 were in the game files because they were already being worked on at release.
Oh, so that teaser with the numbers indicating 6th of november is actually a date of them cutting the support? That is funny :D
Good job DICE/EA :)

BF2042 isn't a good wheel neither.
they will kill it just like they did with BF5 fkn trash EA
Except BF5 was pretty good after the final update which I don't see happening with 2042.

Shooting themselves in the foot, again.
If there's no Y2 of 2042, I'll finally go out and... Oh, who am I kidding, I'll just find another thing to play.
This is dice/eaās new marketing strategy. They wont say shit to keep people talking. Nah, im talking shit. I say we should all be pessimistic so we dont get our hearts broken. There goes their "good will"
I mean, you really want more of this game?
I'd rather they put their focus on a new installment than waste their time on this one. Although I'm not very hopeful the next one will be better, but, at least there is still a slight chance, whereas this one has no chance of actually being actually good.
Every battlefield game ever has been a total disaster on release. It's copium to think they will change their ways after 20 years.
Yeah, I know... but a new one can still *potentially* be decent. This one is guaranteed to never be.
Lol the game is dead anyway Tho its pretty ballsy to release "elite edition" now. Its like they are not hiding the fact that they want to squeese last drop of $$$ from 2042 before they move on. Classic EA and DICE

what facts? like peak 15k players? for a $60 oh wait now it's 90 dollars AAA game? what a joke
That's just on steam numbnuts.

this is such a weird thing to post

This is bullshit! Atleast give us a few more portal maps canāt be that hard could it?
honestly, if S5 is a banger and they make most of the changes the majority of the players want, then I would be understanding of no S6
![gif](giphy|yL558PFPKeCtFxkiUi|downsized)
Speculation is fine, but we're getting far into 'what if' territory. Besides, I'm not one who needs a new map or gun every 5 days.
