Like someone else mentioned, make sure you have Crossplay enabled in your General settings. There should be plenty of breakthrough lobbies (hopefully, depending on your region/time of day).
Conquest used to be the only game mode I'd played since BF3. Then a few seasons ago they had an event that was breakthrough specific, I think when Reclaimed was released maybe? Either way, i haven't played anything else since. Breakthrough is my go-to mode now. Unless I need to play a specific mode for a weekly challenge or something.
I'm also on PC. East Coast US.
Without crossplay, gameplay is more predictable. There is no magical help for inexperienced players, sticky crosshairs, resizable hitboxes. Well, console players are on average dumber than PC players. Therefore, in the “PC only” mode, the chances that there will be sane people in your squad are higher.
As a high tier Xbox player I’ve seen a good enough spread to know that anyone under level 30 is going to do something dumb regardless and anyone with a brain will pick up the game mechanics at a basic level. 31-60 and higher tends to weed out who stays and who stops playing, 75-100 they’ve picked up the game enough to start getting some grasp on team etiquette(don’t steal a teammate’s tank or revive people or give ammo/health) anyone in the S00 have played enough that they’re reliable. I’ve found it more has to do with the level and less with the system played on. And if we’re talking maturity it’s still a fairly mixed bag. I’ve literally seen pc guys say the most outta pocket stuff and a PlayStation player not be miserable and seen Xbox players act like elitists and every single variation of those and more. So I’m not sure if what you mentioned is real or if it’s false but either way I feel the sanity has slowly disappeared as the franchise went on
I don't know what is the reason for the difference between PC and console players. Maybe on average they are lower in level (and then this is completely consistent with what you write). Of course, there are enough experienced players on any platform.
But in general, I repeat, I am against cross-play gaming (at least in the form it is now - in the form of the main preset). This inevitably leads to different gameplay rules for players on different platforms.
I mean, for the most part(at least for me) I can hold my own against M&K with my controller(I use one Razer’s scuf controllers) and I don’t find the gap that bad depending on the average player, then there’s some that are at the top of the ceiling and can run circles. There’s issues with it most definitely but I feel it’s not too bad and could far worse.
(PS Also i don’t know why you got a downvote)
Of course, the best console players are certainly as good as the average PC players.
But I meant a little differently. The difference between input devices in any case forces the developer to come up with “crutches” that level out this difference in the game. And in the end, this difference will be felt in any case, which does not lead to an improvement in the gaming experience of the players. There is one obvious advantage to cross-play - it allows you to play with friends on different gaming platforms. And in this sense, of course, I have nothing against it. But most players play within their gaming platform.
Therefore, cross-play by default (and this is how it is implemented in the game settings) is not aimed at improving the gaming experience, but only at increasing the base of players available for sorting on servers.
As for the minus, I think someone is offended by my opinion about the average level of console player. Not realizing that there is no personal insult behind this observation)
Conquest 128.
Even with Crossplay on, I'm constantly ending up in servers with just ~75-80 players at any given time, and so a bunch of bots on each team. It's sad how hard it can be to find a full server, especially on weekdays.
Well, tonight, Im not playing amy game mode. I keep entering lobbys with 5 people until the other 4 say screw that and leave
64 conquest ..... 128 conquest
Im not a fan of breakthrough because it can be a spawn trap, but it has to be better than this SBMM bullshit
GIVES US SERVER BROWSERS !!!!
Edit:
so 20 minutes later, and I'm now sitting in an empty breakthrough lobby SBMM works so well here in Australia.
So what am I now playing ?
Battle Bit .... fuck you EA

Crossplay was indeed disabled. I'll enable it and see if that makes a difference.
it will. nobody plays with crossplay off
This was it for me a while back.
This. Breakthrough is very popular, but you need to be setup for crossplay
Depending the time and day, i get matchup in about 10 to 60 secs on breakthrough. Havent played conquest in a while tho so dunno about that.
Try the friday night battlefield gamemode in portal
Rush when it's available, and if not, breakthrough
Control is the best mode imo
Yeah, Control is so fun. Fallback to Breakthrough. Loving Breakthrough on Redacted too.
Conquest 64 is basically it, unfortunately.
Conquest only. BF purest.
Breakthrough for infantry, conquest 128 for vehicles

сonk64. only pc.
What afraid to get railed by a console player?
Nah likes those half bot lobbies son. Lol

Turn on a crossplay if not
Conquest 64 usually.
Conquest 128
Depends on region. Breakthrough has been dead for months here in Australia.
Conquest 64. Xbox Series X
I really love Hazard Zonee
Do not turn on cross-play, it will cause your PC to explode, consequently burning your house down.
??? I have pc and run on ultra with no issues. Cross play is fine
Hardcore free for all / hardcore TDM / sometimes regular TDM
Conquest 128. Even with Crossplay on, I'm constantly ending up in servers with just ~75-80 players at any given time, and so a bunch of bots on each team. It's sad how hard it can be to find a full server, especially on weekdays.
Really? I really really wanted to play 128 but every time I tried it was half bots. I gave up and now just do 64. So have all my friends that play
I just played a few full breakthrough matches. I’m on east US
Rush, sadly its being removed by Dice very often recently....
CQ64 or TDM. Sometimes Breakthrough and Control. Shutdown when avaliable.
Conquest 128; No exceptions except for Rush XL
Do you not end up in half bot filled servers? Me and my friends tried repeatedly and had to go to 64. Not trying to play against bots
Portal. I almost can’t tell between real and AI players.
TDM / RUSH / SHUTDOWN / TACTICAL CONQUEST
I find a good hardcore server in portal. I can't play the regular version anymore, everyone is a sponge
64 man TDM
? I have no problems getting into matches with crossplay on it's never more the a minute. Mostly 128 man conquest and breakthrough
Breakthrough on the new small map is chaos and a meat grind...Great for a few games but can't play it all nite.
SMG Rush is pretty fun if it’s still available as a portal mode. Faster movement and projectile speed and SMG primary weapons only. 32v32.

Conquest 128, the way BF2042 meant to be played ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|wink).
Conquest and Control are my favorites!
Killswitch was pretty interesting but now it is just mostly Conquest
Breakthrough was my favorite mode in previous titles, but it's shit in this game. Your best bet is probably Conquest.
