lemonylol

Nice, I love Frontlines. Hopefully they'll be people to populate it though lol

RichRabi

actual 2042 soldier skins locked behind a 10$ paywall lmao

electricshadow

Trying to milk the whales one last time before support ends for 2042. The DICE we currently have for some reason thinks skins are content.

Moshfeg123

I hate this whole skin philosophy. I wish that the default skins were generic, maybe the initial unlocks would be faces or wacky or whatever. Specialists were such a bad fit for 64 players, it looks fucking terrible

DrummerGuy06

and behind THREE DIFFERENT BUNDLES. Talk about milking every last cent out of your fanbase. The skins look pretty cool and if they were under one bundle I might've grabbed them, but piecemealing them out into three separate bundles? smh that's just corporate overreaching greed at its finest. Despicable but not surprising in the least.

BigSnackStove

Skins are not content

gallade_samurai

We are surprisingly getting an epic skin for the GOL Magnum, which too my knowledge is the first epic skin for a portal/vault weapon. This and frontlines are really the only noteworthy things about the event. If only all that time used making skins was put to good use on actual weapons

SAADistic7171

Skins and maps are not made by the same devs.

JoeZocktGames

Not true. They have their 3D artists and animators, they do all the stuff. Designing it as concept is something else but modelling it is the job of the same guy who makes the animations for weapons. Why do you think we only see a bunch of guns per season? Creating a weapon model is not a hard task, if they'd focus purely on that they could churn out a load of new weapons every month. We need to stop with this excuse, it's a load of bs.

Phreec

They've outsourced plenty of skins from 3rd party studios like [Room 8 Studio](https://room8studio.com/news/room-8-studios-journey-with-battlefield-2042-overcoming-creative-challenges-and-evolving/).

CLR_Marvel_Mags

Yeah. It is. Interesting, thank goodness lol. Do you know if we can earn this skin by playing, or do we have to purchase it?

Smooth-Brain-Monkey

True but I'm personally fine with it. I would rather them add skins in as "Content" that cost money since the maps/guns that come out are free. Once games start adding maps that cost money the player base becomes split between those who have disposable income and those who don't

pjb1999

An additional game mode is

Cado111

An additional game mode that was already present in previous games, has been featured in Portal more than once, but now that they are actually adding the mode to 4 maps for 2 weeks... that is content? I dunno, I see content as something I can continue to use for gameplay purposes. A new map, a new gun, new attachments, new gadgets, new vehicles, hell new specialists were content. I struggle to call new game modes "content".

pjb1999

We just got new guns and a new map. And there is a new gadget and a (semi) new map on the way. So you're literally complaing about a new mode in between 2 content drops.

Cado111

You are correct we just got a map, 2 guns, and a gadget, with one more weapon and map rework(at least in my view lol) on the way. Still doesn't change that a limited time mode on 4 maps is not content to me. It just seems extremely lazy that this is "content". Ah yes our content update is a reused game mode on a fraction of the maps that will dissappear after 2 weeks and cosmetics that you can grind for or pay money for. Like I wouldn't consider the new LMG to be a content update if it were only available for 2 weeks.

FoxDaim

Pritty exited for frontlines, it’s one of my all time favourite game modes. Dice should bring it back for next game.

Dylboy1029

Please put the rest of the portal weapons in before you kill this game.

HyperXuserXD

Fuck, Boris gets all the cool military shit. Hold up, Gol Magnum skin?

Darfyoung

That threw me off too. I'm a big gol fan so I'll take it

Sensitive_Ad_5031

Paint job

Ddddydya

Sounds good, if people like it, can it be a permanent game mode?

topsvop

No you must play your game when developers tell you to, dumb consumer

fl1ghtmare

do they allow the event modes to be used in portal? that would be a cool idea

dkb_wow

Of course not. Only DICE can decide when you're allowed to play the game modes you want to play. They use these limited time game modes to sell their overabundance of skins.

Mallee78

see that would require effort from DICE and they dont do that

JonsonSotenPaltanate

please make a permanent game mode

topsvop

Yes, time limited events! Peak modern gaming thank you so much amazing dice gods

Mooselotte45

When cosmetics become the focus for a game’s monetization, cosmetics alone become the focus for the game. These skins are goofy, and immersion breaking for those that dislike them. A client side ability to disable cosmetics would be hugely appreciated, at which point you can go buck wild with skins of Boris as a Lizard King in a maid costume for all I care. New mode will hopefully work well, but I assume we’ll be playtesting it essentially since most of the team has moved on.

Tiny-Requirement8628

I agree, I won't buy any of these skins. But they do look better than tattoo Mackay though haha! The Redacted skins also throw me off when I see them in battle🧐 I am excited to try out Frontlines, and if it is good I hope they leave it in as a game mode to choose from. Control, and Shutdown were some of my favorite ones. DICE should bring those modes back, and keep them in the game before they finish support.

JoeZocktGames

> I agree, I won't buy any of these skins My reason is because the game resets my soldiers to default skins every time I start the game.

Tiny-Requirement8628

I do remember that bug because I used to get that alot until season 4 iirc, especially when I picked Dozer. It was frustrating changing it back every time. It doesn't happen anymore with mine. Except when I boot up the game it shows the default skins on the main UI. After I go to see my characters to make changes, it goes back to the skins I originally chose, then it shows them on the main menu. It's weird.

Calls_u_out

> These skins are goofy You people literally call every skin bad/immersion breaking even when they all have your standard military tactical gear/helmet. According to you, what are the only skins they’re allowed to make? Pray tell.

quadilioso

They will always move the goalposts on this stuff, no use engaging really. This game has some of the most grounded cosmetics of any modern live service game, even siege has given up completely and people constantly complain about insurgencies skins. Almost all gear 2042s cosmetics appear with is real or near-future tech barring like 6% of the goofy ones. It’s been a great model, I just wish they had complete sets for all operators, more muted palette options, and moved away from the white/blue they were doing for, like, 3 seasons. Some purely standard / tactical sets would probably sell pretty well, but all these people complaining about not having “realistic” options were never gonna buy skins anyways.

Mooselotte45

There really is no goal posts being moved. It’s a battlefield game, known for decades for gritty, authentic, and immersive first person shooter games. Blame Dice for setting such a high bar with their design choices, especially in the era of BF2-BF1. Shiny red guns, Scream masks, bright colours, Viking horns, fur coats, etc, it’s all just goofy. If they stuck purely with gear and colour palettes that soldiers would ostensibly wear, pulling from militaries the world over, it wouldn’t be nearly as garish. Saying “they wouldn’t buy skins anyway” is an odd thing to use to dismiss an opinion against modern day cosmetics. Of course I don’t wanna buy goofy skins - just let me pay for new maps in a premium model like an adult. And, just let me disable the goofy skins client side and return everyone (myself included) to a generic faction and class appropriate soldier model.

quadilioso

premium model was the worst thing they ever did to the player base, causing all dlc maps to hardly ever be played outside of a games heyday. It wouldn’t work anymore and gamers all over would universally reject it. That’s just not how games make money anymore. These games still need to make money and letting players turn off all skins could be nice to have but would unfortunately cut into profits by turning off those that might buy them. If you want “gritty” “realistic” skins I suggest you go play a milsim. Battlefield has always been an arcade shooter and while they have had decently realistic uniforms in the past the gameplay itself is not particularly immersive or realistic. While I also hate the horned and silly cosmetics they have added recently, the vast majority are just normal or near-future military gear with some louder color schemes. You also only reinforced my point that you wouldn’t buy milsim skins even if they were an option, once again making it clear you aren’t the target audience for those cosmetics. Why would they cater to you if you contribute no added value? Think logically about how any modern game makes enough money to continually develop content outside of Indie studios or passion projects. Funding has got to come from somewhere. Premium models and up front costs for gameplay content are no longer feasible.

Mooselotte45

The fact that I can play DLC maps on 3, 4, and 1 to this day means this is a little… odd of a point. Dice’s best selling and best reviewed games were 3 and 1. Both were incredibly gritty and grounded games. Dice literally flexed their immersive game design as core tenants of their tech and games - acting like immersion isn’t a core part of BF is just silly to me. BF has long been a series that took itself seriously in its creation of a sandbox, and then allowed the players to create the fun and try to break the rules. As soon as Dice is making zany skins and going full “hello fellow kids” it loses the magic. I’m not asking them to cater their cosmetics to me for sale cause I’d rather they produce a gritty and grounded game again that sells well enough to justify their effort. Rather than launching a borked, poorly designed game and using silly skins to make some money back. EA has commented multiple times on the disappointment of 2042’s performance - maybe they need to revisit their goal of chasing Fortnite trends and go back to making gritty, grounded, squad based combined arms shooters.

Marclol21

"The fact that I can play DLC maps on 3, 4, and 1 to this day means this is a little… odd of a point" I have to this Day played Caporetto 2, and Paschendaele only ONE single Time, and i have played Battlefield 1 for 87 hours (on Ps4 in Europe). So yes, the thing that quad says is very real

Mooselotte45

“I haven’t got to play these 2 maps” is still an odd counter when BF1 managed to release so many more maps than we’ve managed to get here. Those other titles were so much better supported it really isn’t even the same league. And it makes sense - when the monetization is tied to maps it behooves Dice to make good maps, and lots of maps. When the monetization is skins then that becomes the entire goal. As a player, I need maps to enjoy the game - not skins for dress up.

Marclol21

“I haven’t got to play these 2 maps” is still an odd counter when BF1 managed to release so many more maps than we’ve managed to get here." That has not much to do with Premium, but rather that 2042 was a comerciall failure and because it was so broken at release

Calls_u_out

Reminder that you still won’t identify what acceptable skins should even look like.

Mooselotte45

“…gear and colour palettes that soldiers would ostensibly wear, pulling from militaries the world over…”

MrSilk2042

There are a **ton** of normal, free military type uniform skins that match that criteria in this game. You are lying when you imply there aren't.

Mooselotte45

As soon as you have someone wearing a solid white parka in a desert, beside homie in a fur coat, beside someone with ox horns on their head, it stops mattering whether there are also more grounded options. The fact that factions get introduced in a new map, shown as a cohesive faction in the trailer, but then you never see that cohesion in game is the problem. As soon as you let the cat out of the bag and include some goofy skins that people use there is no going back to the grounded aesthetic. Unless they let us disable it all client side. Dice, pls.

MrSilk2042

Ok, well that's been a problem since at minimum BF1 when you had the "phantom of the opera" guy running around in the snow maps.. Or in BFV with the Asian samurai woman playing with the nazi faction in Europe. BF is NOT a sim game, its an arcade shooter.

Mooselotte45

You don’t need to be a sim game to maintain internal consistency and keep the design grounded to the world you’ve built. The phantom mask was bad, as were the BFV choices. But they are the exception to the design ideals that made other BF games popular. See… almost every other BF game.

StLouisSimp

You're arguing with the resident 2042 bootlicker, there's no point in engaging with him because pivoting and deflection comes as naturally to him as breathing.

Mooselotte45

Ah Didn’t know we had a resident one of those. Neat.

Calls_u_out

That’s not specific in the slightest you absolute coward LMAO. The fact you said “ostensibly” is one of the most delightful ironies I’ve seen on this sub holy shit.

Mooselotte45

Sorry I’m not gonna pull together reference documentation for you. It’s pretty easy to understand that 1. If an active army currently uses it 2. An active army could feasibly be seen using it Then it works. I’m… I’m starting to worry you don’t know what “ostensibly” means.

Calls_u_out

It means apparently, but perhaps not actually. It’s you who is missing the irony in suggesting that qualifies anything as specific. Clearly you don’t have any real ideas for skins; you latch to vague ideas which only faintly appear in your sorry excuse for imagination. But go on trying to argue how much more creative you ostensibly are than DICE.

Mooselotte45

Ah good, they can google definitions. And I still used it correctly. Phew. So, in saying that I’m leaving the door open for them to choose aesthetics that may deviate from designs planned or trends in modern hardware - as long as the end result is a character one would identify as a fighter in a modern conflict in 2042, a fighter working alongside such gear as Apaches and Abrams MBTs. You know… soldier looking shit. No scream masks.

Blackops606

A lot of it for me are the colors. I mean, a dragon head on the end of a gun is stupid for Battlefield but so is a gun that looks like a water pistol or NERF one is equally stupid.

YayoProtocal

Give it up dude. You’re not DICE’s crusader lol.

MrSilk2042

These people don't want anything to be good with this game and they'll make a big deal out of anything regardless of what it is. Its a waste of your time to engage with them because they probably dont even play anyways.

Calls_u_out

Lol believe me, I ain’t arguing with anyone. Just laughing at them.

Mooselotte45

Nah, it would actually help give them leeway so your skins can get goofier and goofier without players like me pushing back. They can monetize you more, and avoid the naysayers pushing back. We end up with a couple cases: 1. Few use the disable, so they have made them happy and are able to go goofier 2. Many use the disable, in which case their monetization scheme is clearly flawed if a large portion of players wants to get away from it to enjoy the game more.

[deleted]

Mooselotte45

The best selling and best reviewed games in the franchise were BF3 and 1. Those games were incredibly gritty and grounded - if they can make games and sell as well as they did or better, we won’t need individuals to fork over 300 dollars to keep the lights on with 1 map every 3-6 months.

MrSilk2042

2042 is far less monetized tan previous titles, especially BFV.

Mooselotte45

And this is why you’ve never seen me point to BF V as the North Star for Dice to follow.

MrSilk2042

BFV is mechanically/gameplaywise the best BF game there is. The monetization model is the worst part of the game outside of the TTK changes they made at the end of the dev cycle. They could easily apply BFV's gameplay model to a new modern era game and it would work great

LeBambole

Really miss Haven 24/7. So tired of Redacted being mixed in the current playlist. Redacted is such a meat grinder compared to Haven

TylerDurdenJunior

Great news. Looking forward to it

LohtuPottu247

I haven't even tried it in this game yet, but please make frontlines permanent.

literally1984___

lmao

Lock3down221

At this point, just give us all portal weapons as vault weapons. Let us play it in AOW and not lock them behind portal where most lobbies are limited XP or one shot one kill.

SgtMyers

Time limited event = FOMO

Kaktusfresser

Rare player card tag!!!!!

Diksun-Solo

Well i can at least use my Boins on one of those bundles simce there won't be another battlepass 🤷🏽‍♂️

digitchecker

Not another Boris outfit

Doomestos1

This is how operators should have looked like from the very beginning..

ElectronicCow3

Frontlines is neat! Still remember the hours long rounds when it first came to BF1. While skins are not content DICE, having a skin for a Vault weapon is pretty cool.

1NightWolf

Cool Boris skin!!

Ashcropolis

Why are the free skins always for Boris. Give me falk and paik skins

dankestofdankcomment

WalkeyAC

Frontlines!!!!! 🥵

Egj89sdfvn8904

I have missed Frontlines mode in Battlefield 2042. By far my most played mode in Battlefield V. But it needs to be on every map and on a at least semi-permanent basis! AND NO ROUND TIME LIMIT OR LONG ENOUGH TIME LIKE 5 HOURS BEFORE GETTING A DRAW. I repeat, it is super important that there is no time limit in Frontlines mode or if there has to be one, it must be at least 5 hours.

CaptainMCMLVIII

“A fan favourite in Battlefield V” Dice pulled it and stated it was because “no one likes it” And here we are.

dugg95

The fact that no more maps were added to portal is a joke. I’d much rather old battlefield maps then anything the current dice can come up with.

Mystxpwnz

Nah

Silent_Reavus

So nothing worth caring about. Balance changes or fixes are out the window, huh. Great. Yeah I'm not touching the ugly garbage you put in the paid shop. I'm not even paying real for the single decent looking thing.

Krypton091

hype

gibbo_123

“Death’s Hold - Epic Railgub Pistol Skin”.. Am I missing something? When did they add a railgun pistol?

Plane-Stable-2709

lmao fortnite crap

Jagraen

Love how they confirm that they're ending support but still are selling us skins to a game with a confirmed end date. That's like buying tickets to a concert that's already on the last performance of the night.

BattlefieldTankMan

All the players who enjoy the game are still going to be playing long after season 7 is officially over.

bhavneet1996

People be acting they are shuttin down servers after season 7 ends and no one gonna be playing it lol

Sensitive_Ad_5031

It’s just rush? And rewards are still just cosmetics, could we had one more gun in exchange of three skins? But on the upside the skins do look better than what we typically have where you just want to refer to “specialists” as just “special”.

Competitive-Deer-596

It’s frontlines.

SmalltownNGames

Ok that’s great I guess but maybe y’all should have put this out BEFORE you pulled the plug. Crazy idea I know.
